Make that 11
Hey everyone. The Major League Baseball draft continued today and two more Auburn Tigers -- outfielder Justin Fradejas (above) and reliever Stephen Kohlscheen -- were selected.
That bumps the program's total to 11 this season. It's a record.
A recap:
OF Trent Mummey, 4th round (Baltimore)
1B Hunter Morris, 4th round (Milwaukee)
SP Cole Nelson, 10th round (Detroit)
SP Grant Dayton, 11th round (Florida)
RP Austin Hubbard, 14th round (Tampa)
C Ryan Jenkins, 17th round (Kansas City)
OF Brian Fletcher, 18th round (Kansas City)
DH Kevin Patterson, 23rd round (Tampa)
RP Bradley Hendrix, 30th round (Cincinnati)

I wondered about that number
Where did I see 13? Did that include signees with Auburn?
I hope everyone had a Merry Strasmas and a Happy Harperka. I know DC did.
PF, what's a bammer whale?
There's going to be a lot rebuilding to do.
Didn't we have something like 5 Auburn signees drafted also? From this list of 11 current players and 5 signees, how many do you think we actually lose?
Of all the signees that were drafted, the 1 I worry most about losing is the JuCo pitcher, Miller... We should retain Lane and Alvord, which is huge, because they are very good bats.
JGT, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on which (if any) of AU's drafted players decide to shun the mlb $ and return to AU next year?
wtc,
re: your post on the last thread... DWjr is reportedly not on good terms with weeman. It's being said that weeman called him fat, told him to lose weight, and it hurt his feelings. I don't know if that is enough to turn him or not... but, Troop is on him hard. They also (finally) extended a firm offer to Joe Morrow, the big WR from MS... I like this kid a lot.
Rasco is planning to visit sometime this summer.
Hope Paws can recruit. It's a good problem to have I guess. Come to AU n u can play pro ball.
From what I have heard from several baseball scouting sites and draft analysts regarding most of AU's recruit/signees is that they dropped in the draft due to concerns that they would be unable to sign them away from their AU commitment.
I.e. The Braves do not expect Alvord to abandon his AU commit.
Sorry.... to correct my earlier post... The JuCo pitcher's name is Morris... I was thinking I had been drafted there for a moment...
Nebraska will reportedly announce tomorrow that they are joining the Big Televen
If the Big10 has 12 teams, and the Big12 has less than 12... what do you call those conferences? Do they trade conference names?
It's so weird that the Big 10 has 11 teams ... and soon 12.
They're just like Bammers...they can't count.
According to Orangebloods.com, the Pac10 will get the 6 they want.
Just as Orangebloods.com was first to report last Thursday, the Pac-10 will invite Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Colorado.
And it appears those invitations will be accepted.

So who will the SEC go after?
I don't think the SEC will be compelled to go after anyone.
SEC will go after Valdosta State, Fort Valley State, Jacksonville State, and Jackson State. It will turn into a conference of city-states (Memphis and Troy blew their chance at SEC invites when they dropped "State" from their name)
I could be happy with that.
Is Blogger acting up again?
Also, if the SEC was going to expand, they blew their load and will end up with another USCe and Arky. They should stay the same now either way, they blew their chance IMO.
PAC 10- Will be the best conference in football with these moves.
Finally putting my frequent flyer miles to use. I remember the good ol' days when 2.0 and I flew to Italy for less than the current cost of a single ticket. It's bad enough that flying isn't fun anymore, but then they go and charge many extremities for the trip.
Pac16 you mean?
Worst CEO of the year....Dan Beebe?
Miller-also heard that Robinson learned from Reed not to say anything do he can keep the pressure off Many in lay country think AU is out front for him with Lai falling further behind the longer he does not commit to them.
Miller- the PAC Best for all i'm concerned. They are the huge huge winners.
Rounded up the 1st 2 Better Boys of the season.
Is there a mater sammich in my near future?
[shakes magic 8 ball]
You may rely on it
16 team conferences could work, IF 4 conferences go that route.
How/why you ask? Here is my proposition for how to align it IF 4 mega-conferences are created.
Each conference splits up into 4 divisions. The conference championship is decided by a mini-playoff from the 4 division champs. Then the national championship could be decided by a min-playoff between the 4 conference champs.
FSU GaTech Clempson VTech
not sure after that. I can't imagine the four N Carolina schools splitting.
Miller- Are you suggesting the NFL Model?
THT- That would be disaster IMO. That does absolutely nothing for the conference.
A lot depends on if the Big 10 goes stays at 12 or raids the Big East to go to 16.
Just strike out goes from that statement.
ACC will be:
UNC
Wake
Puke
NCSU
UVa
MD
BC
Miami (they really need to join a conf. with USF, UCF, FAI, FIU and disappear into oblivion... or maybe some of those get ACC invites)
and add a few scraps from the Big East that are left behind after the Big 10+1+1+1+1+1+1 gets done feeding.
Yeah... I think if it goes to 16 then it would have to be some form of the nfl model... playoffs!
Eddie - of course it accomplishes something. It keeps travel expenses down. Think of all the money those PAC x teams will be blowing on jet fuel.
I'll be disappointed if TX/TAMU go to PAC...
I've said this before, I'd add UNC/Duke as 2 of the teams... you have to think more globally than just football, IMO. Take academics, football, basketball, baseball, etc. all into the equation...
please excuse me if I'm not paying close attention. THERE'S PUCK ON TV.
PAC 16- Schools will be making more than 25-27 Million for each school. I think the extra jet fuel can be afforded...plus Jet fuel is cheaper in Texas :).
Miller - the thought of Puke & UNC being in a different conference than NCSU puts the blue screen of death in my brain.
THT.... game seis tonight?
Miller- I completely agree with that about UNC / Duke. That makes sense.
4 16 team conferences are only about half the bowl championship division. The rest will object if they're left out of a playoff system.
Miller - yep
then the rest can have their own playoff. We can call one group the NFL and the other the AFL.
Oh wait, has that already been done?
How about Haves and Have nots? Or Winners and Losers?
although this expansion stuff is confusing, one thing is certain. The Chiz needs to get JJ a really nice Christmas present this year.
and Turner Gill is thinking, "I thought I was going to the 'haves'"
How about a SEC Championship? I think JJ would be quite pleased with that.
yes, NoVA, I believe that would suffice.
Or should JJ be giving Chizik a nice Christmas present??? I think it works both ways there. This much so far, JJ hires have been pretty solid in either on the field success or gaining great enthusiasm among the fans.
Chiz definitely has more to be thankful for. He could still be at ISU. Tell me next week what conference they are in.
Turner Gill’s five-year, $10 million deal makes him the fifth-richest coach in the Big 12 Conference.
Good news!!! Next week he'll be THE RICHEST coach in the Big 12---------

LOL THT. That's good.
I think the Big 12 remnants wind up in the Mountain West or Sun Belt conferences.
Or the Big 12 rump could raid them for 7 teams.
Dang Blackhawks. Come on Flyers!
Nova- With 4 teams remaining in the Big 12, they would absolutely no real leverage to stay a conference. Kansas is the best of what is left...maybe the SEC can get them and KSU along with UNC and Duke....just kidding.
Eddie - I preplayed tonight's hockey match earlier in the day on my indoor rink (aka the unfinished part of the basement). The results were a bit cloudy. Either the Fyers win by a goal or Chicago wins in OT.
The results are accurate to within +/-100%
THT- I prefer the Flyers force a game 7 and win. That would be one of the most impressive championship runs ever in any sport.
Awesome...Flyers score!
It wouldn't be a great conference, but the Big 12 has a BCS tie in. I could see the Mountain West Taking the rump and the name for that.
I think the Big 12 loses the tie in.
Dang Blackhawks... don't let the Flyers score!!
My sister is officially weirded out. Apparently one of Dad's hunting buddies is good friends with Trent Mummey... so now Dad is trying to set her up on a date with Mums.
That depends on the contract. I'm not sure the BCS could get out of it if the Big 12 survives in some form.
On the other hand, if it brings the down, something good could come from this.
brings the BCS down. I've got to stop typing while I watch TV.
The landscape of college football will be forever changed. All the other sports already have a playoff system, so only minimal impact IMO. The BCS will survive more than likely.
I can dream.
Hello everyone. What's been going on besides expansion talk?
I think the Big 12 is going to fold. There is talk of CUSA going after the teams that are left behind.
The SEC should expand if both the PAC 10 and Bib 10 go to 16. I would love to see UNC one of those teams. I agree with others that we need to think more than just football.
WTC, did I read your post correctly? You think Robinson will come to AU he just doesn't want to say because of the immense pressure?
At least the World Cup is about distract me from the changing face of college football.
Shouldn't the PAC-Ten drop the "PAC" part of their name and just become the Big West Conference or something? Is the Big Ten still the Big Ten or might they buy the rights to the Big Twelve?
One thing to keep in mind is that the game itself will not change. It will still be the same game we love. Maybe this will lead to a playoff and the game will become better. I think it was Malzahn that said "if your not moving forward you are moving backwards." There is no neutral.
E-Bro - you think the current Big West Conference will give up their name that easily?
Actually, all schools in the Big West are in California, so they might jump at the chance to swap names with the PAC
I thought about that THT. PAC-Whatever will just give them twenty million bones and call it even. They can't be the PAC-Ten anymore can they?
Exactly.
So, are Kansas, K-State, Baylor, and Iowa State about to split $80 million? Eight teams leaving is not enough to dissolve the conference.
"What remains to be seen is if there will be any schools left to collect the buyout penalties of $10 million for bolting the conference. You need a super majority of nine votes to dissolve the Big 12." orangebloods.com
also at orangebloods.com
"some schools in the Pac-10, including California-Berkeley, have a real issue with adding an institution with religious ties like Baylor to the conference."
well, I guess those Berkeleyans can just burn in heck.
I got $5 on it. That is the big 12 will be no more.
Chb-unless mom is wrong. That is what she is hearing.
wtc,
I concur...
"That is the big 12 will be no more."
that is, will be no more after Baylor, K, KS, and ISU each get their $20 million checks.
Tell Mom thanks. Did you ask her about Allen?
Any other news today?
I see that we are playing Rutgers in the SEC/Big East challenge this year. it will be on ESPN2.
I played Tennis today for the 1st time in 4 yrs. I think I'm going to be sore.
ch-b.... Allen is in the mix, being recruited as a RB...
TCU BYU Utah AFA could get Big 12 invites, but that would just get it back to the Big 8. They could raid another 4 from ConfUSA, but then they'd legally have to change their name to the Irrelevant 12 Conference.
HelloooooO KENNESAW, GA!!!
Where will Kansas go? They are too much of a basketball power to be left out in the cold without a home to go to...
whew, that was close. I was too busy checking out the various conference memberships.
All this conferencing changing talk is making my head hurt.
But I like the things that wtc's mom is hearing.
Kansas will always be Kansas in basketball.
THT, give it up. The Big 12 is done.
I believe that's what I said, CH=B
Sorry didn't see your 837 post.
Just asked my mom about Robinson. She told me I am an immense disappointment.
I love my mom's recruiting updates.
Still no computer at home. Posting from phone takes too long.
I like the UNC-Duke idea. What about adding Kansas an Mizzou?
you definitely look immense
If UNC & Puke leave whatever conference NCSU is in, I'll eat something vile, like maybe a molecule of onion.
In all of this, I've had a theory about Mike Slive. He is a modern day William J. Lepetomane.
His whole mantra has been reactive rather than proactive. He talks non-stop about making sure there are no teams on probation, and likes play the tough cop on "major" issues on criticizing officials.
He seems to be the type who says "there's not a crime problem because the police haven't made any arrests."
The moment calls for dynamic, aggressive leadership, and
Slive appears to be sadly lacking.
Slive has said the SEC has a plan. I had hoped the SEC would spread west and Auburn would get moved into the east and play UT and UF every year, but it doesn't look like that will happen.
The problem the SEC has is that we can only take 4 more teams. We could go after Texas, Texas A&M, Ok, and Ok State; but Texas Tech and Baylor would squeal like pigs.
There is also the possibility of Texas Tech coming to the SEC, which would just be loaded with Ironic Irony.
I would love the SEC to pick up another Arkansas type, and Missouri might be that team.
I would love the SEC to grab Clempson and Georgia Tech. We have a long history with GT and Georgia has a long history with Clempson. It would be very interesting.
FSU wouldn't be bad.
I really wouldn't care for Miami. It is a long long way to Miami.
Virginia Tech would be great.
Louisville would be interesting, but I wouldn't care to see it.
How about trading Kentucky to the ACC? We could throw in Vanderbilt.
Jet - harumph.
I very much agree.... I think he's being made to look a fool by the Pac-whatever... I think he assumed the Big televen was the only conference that would do something and that he could 'react' accordingly... now the Pac is taking the teams we would have gone after leaving us to either stand pat, or invite teams that may not brig as much to the table...
I have never liked Slive...
He reminds me too much of Bud Selig... and I despise Selig.
Apparently the SEC has talked with Texas and Texas A&M. I just don't think we have room to take enough teams to get those two. Texas will want to be in the same conference as Oklahoma, which is tied to Ok State.
Whatever happens, some traditional rivalries may be lost. Can you see Nebraska no longer playing Oklahoma? It is hard to see.
And it is way to early to judge Slive. He has said he has a plan. Nothing has happened yet. Wait and see how the SEC counters.
Why would you want an Arkansas type? What have they excelled in? Other than banjo toting fans?
I'd like to see the conference get stronger (at least in some sense), not add mediocre mediocrity.
Arkansas is far from mediocre and has been successful in football and basketball. They were top dog with Texas in the Southwest Conference. Arkansas has a long history and they have been a good addition to the SEC. Haven't you noticed them giving us fits at times?
New thread UPZ.
Historically, we are 10-8-1 against Arkansas. It has been very competitive.
I would almost be disappointed if the SEC added anyone else. With the schedules as they are, we still miss certain big opponents for four years before they return to our conference schedule.
You could argue that with more power teams in the power conference, you drop the non-conference games, but then the rift between conferences becomes even greater. No one plays each other until the post-season, and the lower schools have a TREMENDOUS drop off in annual athletic income.
I think for the good of the sport, more than 12 teams might be creating a monster. A scary one that doesn't do much good for anyone not in control of it.
If Slive's plan is looking to the East, he's lost and lost badly.
Slive could be the guy who went all-in before the flop with a pair of aces and got nothing after that.
All the schools to the East (Tech, Va. Tech, Clemson, FSU, Miami) add little in terms of TV markets and virtually zip to the footprint. It might make sense geographically, but this isn't a Monopoly game. You've got to have properties in different places in this world.
