AU Regional Sorta Live III
Here we go with what is sure to be a looooooooong day of baseball for all of us.
No need to waste any additional time here.
May our bats be swift and our balls be plentiful ...
AUBURN v. SOUTHERN MISS
AU Top 1: That's right, the Tigers are the visitors in their own park. Must be weird. Didn't seem to bother Mr. Fletcher. Went deep. Your score: AU 1, USM 0
USM Btm 1: Uh-oh. B.A. "Baracus" Vollmuth hit what has to be his 75th home run this weekend to put the Golden Eagle on top. Then Travis Graves solved a bases loaded jam for the Tigers by doubling to center. New score: USM 5, AU 1
AU Top 2: Casey McElroy put a dent in the Under Armour sign in left-center. Scored three. We're well on our way to a 30-run day. New score: USM 5, AU 4
USM Btm 2: Relatively quiet. B.A., whose initials are fitting, singled -- but when doesn't he? That was all, though.
AU Top 3: Tie game on a nice double from Kevin Patterson. Should've given the Tigers the lead but Jenkins got his feet tangled on the third base line and tripped. Brand new game anyway. AU 5, USM 5
USM Btm 3: A double and a two-out, RBI single put the Fightin' Favres back on top. And we had our first of what's sure to be NUMEROUS pitching changes. New score: USM 6, AU 5
AU Top 4: A GRAND DONG from Mr. Morris has turned things around for the visiting, yet homestanding, Tigers. We also got pitching change No. 2. New score: AU 9, USM 6
USM Btm 4: That'll help the pace a bit. A quick one. No harm.
AU Top 5: Hey, hey, hey -- halfway home. Your Tigers put up SIX more in the fifth. The big blow was ... let's see ... somebody hit a homerun. It happened like a half-hour ago. I forgot. You can now go do something else and wait on the late game to start. New score: AU 15, USM 6
USM Btm 5: Couple of runners. Neither of them touched the plate ... when it counted.
AU Top 6: Didn't score. Call it mercy.
USM Btm 6: Didn't score. Call it surrender.
AU Top 7: Thanks to an it's-hot call by the first base ump on a double play, no runs again.
USM Btm 7: We're rolling now, baby. Still 15-6 ... and hot.
AU Top 8: Two more runs for the Tigers. Might wanna think about saving some of this for later. New Score: AU 17, USM 6
USM Btm 8: One more meaningless run for the Golden Eagles. Score: AU 17, USM 7
AU Top 9: Nothing. But ... we can see the end. Sweet mercy.
USM Btm 9: A run on a homer. Needed a pitching change to get it done, though.
Final Score: AU 17, USM 8
No need to waste any additional time here.

Another poor start.
Well, guess Auburn baseball team can start enjoying their summer off. I really expected us to do well in this game.
Poor is an understatement now. Good lord.
It seems every time we host a regional we somehow lose the home field advantage that we took advantage of all year.
I truly have no idea what the problem is with our entire team this post-season.
The offense doesn't seem to remember much for making contact and keeping the ball down. The pitching doesn't seem to remember to be confident early.
I don't think there's any way Auburn loses this game. It'll be a 16-13, four-and-a-half-hour win. Probably a rain delay mixed in somewhere, too. And then they'll win an extra inning game with Clemson that ends sometime tomorrow morning, and play again tomorrow night.
Trust me.
We are about to unload bunches of HRs on these bums and win going away.
Yours truly,
The Sunshine Pumper
One thing we don't do is when we go up against a hot pitcher is make him work. Almost always it's a first pitch swing instead of working him deep into the count and getting him out of the game early.
Agree WERK. At least make the pitcher work.
This baseball stuff is getting very frustrating. Why does every team we play seem to jump on us early?
We are getting some base runners, which seems to be a new strategy.
Ahhhhh yeah!!!
Ding dong time!!!
5-4 on a huge ding dong.
Maybe my good feeling will be true. This looks a little better.
Moon, I like your optimism.
And all baseball fans love the long ball when its their team hitting it. 5-4 to the bottom of 2 we go!
Swing for the fence
I don't think Roy Halladay could get B.A. "Baracus" Vollmuth out right now.
Ironic that his name is "B.A."
Does anyone have a better quality video feed than ncaa.com?
You gotta love that kind of hustle out of your big bat.
Auburn decided to play some baseball!
Baserunning gaffe
He tripped? My gosh.
He did not go around, let's see a replay
Gonna be a long day with or without a second game, apparently.
That replay didn't look like a swing. It was close, but there's usually a point that looks like you're absolutely swinging. I didn't see that.
Wells,
That's not Moon being optimistic, that's him knowing he's stuck all day at the ball park.
I predict a 3 run AU inning
Upon further reading, I see what I missed WERK. Guess I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Would've been nice for Nelson to last a little longer than 2 2/3 innings and 58 pitches. But as the great Herm Edwards once said, "You play to win the game. HELLO!?!? YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!"
let's go hunter
salami!
9-6 Auburn with ding dongs a plenty.
It can still be optimism, WERK.
What a defensive play!!
ring rong....
I realize we're ahead at the moment, but the truth is the loser's bracket is the baseball equivalent of hospice.
It looks like Southern Miss was satisfied to win the first inning and call it a day.
11-6 and growing. This is starting to look like a serious beat down after the slow start.
and keeps on growing and growing
There's still nobody out, if you're wondering.
We're renaming Auburn DONG CITY.
Another Ding Dong!!!
Someone call Mrs. Moon. Tell her husband will be home next Thursday when Jay G comes in to cover the first game with Clemson.
Should we all chip in and get that USM pitcher some therapy. That guy is spending a lot of time watching balls fly through the air.
We have scored 5 runs this inning, have a guy on first, and there are still no outs. I think that pitcher wants his mommy.
Yes, did someone order a double play?
Why, yes, I did. Thank you.
nice. glad the bat picked up a bit. bout time.
15-6. not bad.
I guess it took looking like Ned and the first reader for 2 straight weekend before AU finally decided they wanted to play some ball this post-season...
Hopefully they will want to play tonight as well...
Auburn has a completely different approach at the plate today than the past few games... It's more in line with what they did during season.
Seems that we're as good against bad pitching as we are bad against good pitching.
Throw strikes
Stand up and clap for Bradley Hendrix.
Methinks y'all are a little too critical of AU's performance over the past week or so. Remember today marks only the sixth collegiate post-season game any of them have ever played in - even the SRs.
To put that in perspective, there are SOPHOMORES on the USM squad that have already played in 20+ tourney games.
Experience matters.
It. Won't. End.
It could be worse Josh, you could be getting the rain we are having here in the Noog.
Tigers Win!
How long before the next game starts?
So Auburn has to beat Clemson twice today? If Auburn wins the first, they play another right after it?
No, they play one tonight and if AU wins they play one tomorrow night.
If Clemson wins tonight it is all over, so our TIgers need to get through tonight.
Slade Smith getting the start tonight.
Josh,
So far your first prediction comes true. Let's hope your second one does also, but without having to go to extra innings to do it.
Miller,
When did he pitch last?
Sweet,
Thanks Cincy!
start time 5:15
I think Slade pitched an couple of innings Friday night...
Could be wrong though...
Wow McCann just crushed one.
If he, Escobar and McLouth start hitting like they can....look out.
Nice day for college athletics. I got back a couple of hours ago from attending the Final match of the Golf NCAA Championships in good old Ooltewah, TN.
Up 2-1 with two groups left on the course and needing one more point to win, Augusta State beat Oklahoma State by having one of their guys win on the 19th hole of match play, rendering the other match pointless. Good drama, good golf. Fun to walk The Honors again.
Slad threw 2.2 innings Friday, gave up one earned, two total runs. Looked pretty good. I think he'll pitch until he shows a first sign of weakness, then either John Luke Jacobs or Dexter Price comes in. Don't be surprised if Austin comes in as early as the 7th if we need him.
Well then.... I guess I'll give a shout out to the big city up the road. Congrats Jag-u-r's!!!! Augusta is proud of you.
I guess Augusta truly is the home of golf in the USA.
ehyou,
I've given up on McClouth. He's trying to pull everything and not trying to just hit the ball and put it into play.
He also is making bad decisions in the field. The other night he called off Heyward on a play where someone was tagging up, and didn't even attempt to make a throw to the plate.
We need to muster mucho Clemson hate, thusly sending bad juju their way ensuring an Auburn victory.
WERK...
It's like I'm watching a different player this season. I keep waiting for the real McLouth to show up.
I'm convinced Escobar is the infield version of Andrew Jones....a ton of talent but just doesn't seem to care.
I HATE the FAKE tigers.
hate. hate. hate hate hate.
Looks like I missed all the fun!
Wedding and baby showers in the way. Also a wedding in Infidel City yesterday. Don't these people know we are playing baseball?
Woohooo....we score first for a change!
Wait...where's the new thread for Regional IV Sorta Live?
Hey new thread up everyone!
still further, Michael.
