Cowbells now legal at MSU ... for now
Hey everyone. We're live at the SEC Spring Meetings where Mississippi State just received the approval of league athletic directors to allow cowbells into home games.
There is a catch. The cowbells may be rattled only at appropriate times. When is appropriate? During timeouts and other stoppages of play ... when most schools play music or messages over their soundsystems.
If league presidents approve the measure this afternoon, MSU's plan will have a one-year trial. The issue will be revisited next year.
``I think the general thought was we'll give you a chance," MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin said. ``One of the parts of this proposal that's key is right now there's a sunset clause on it that runs out next year. In other words, we have a year to see if we can be responsible as a fan base. If we're responsible, the league will address it and go from there and if we're not, we'll take a different tack."

Clang clang clang.
Ring-ity ding ding dong!
Yo tengo un fever.
if you want your stadium to be loud dont use cowbells use my 3 step system.
1. win games
2.get more fans
3. build bigger stadium.
scottchoc- I am going with my wife and Will (who sometimes posts here ) and his wife.
Michael- hi
cowbell is a cheaper and quicker alternative. There's that free hand of the market again.
Never saw if this question was answered or not, but is Auburn baseball on tv at all tonight?
it should be illegeal...why dont Auburn fans all bring bullhorns into the stadium. That could be our thing. Or we could all bring in those fart machines
If you build it, they will come.
I'm all about a fart machine. I actually just downloaded an app for that so I'm ready.
ok it's settled. All Auburn All Farts starts this season
Harrison, you going to the Brewfest tonight or tomorrow? If I go, it will be tomorrow.
E-Bro, I don't think there's any tv for the baseball game.
All Auburn All Farts... smells like a winner to me!
I'm definitely ready for that, Harrison. Oh wait, you said "All Farts"... I thought you said "Old Farts".
Kudos to MSU. Maybe they can get Will Farrell to disguise himself as MSU band leader and bring in some more cowbell.
'tweep'?
i guess that is a twitter-peep JG?
i'll be the first to say this but NO WAY MSU fans appropriately use this cowbell thing. no freakin' way.
Thanks Choc.
I agree with Scottie. This will be used and abused.
I could give a rip about cowbells...
Jay Gogue said they're voting on 20+ pieces of legislation this afternoon. That sounds like a lot.
He's being briefed by Jay Jacobs right now.
Yeah. Feel free to re-tweet the GannettWorldCup thing. I want FOLLOWERS!
FSJ - I don't think 2.0 can wait 3 more weeks, so I'll probably stick with VZ and go with HTC incredible rather than AT&T new iPHone. I hope you'll forgive me.
scott- we will be there tomorrow.
JayGT - will they be voting on the health care bill? Or immigration reform?
Radiohead's "Weird Fishes" is such a good song.
That is all.
I guess Thom Yorke and company just killed this thread...or more appropriately, put it to sleep with their dreamy sounding tunes.
Perhaps I missed this, but was is the penalty for improper use of cowbell? Does this mean that if one cowbell is heard at an inappropriate time that whatever the penalty is, it'll be carried out? Folks are gonna bring cowbells, folks are gonna use them, and as loud as its going to be, I don't know that it's gonna be any louder than a regular night in Baton Rouge.
What in the wide, wide world of sports is a-goin' on here?
Just jumpin around here ehyou
Davis Wade will never compare to Tiger Stadium, cowbells or not. It's about 60% of the capacity and much more 'open air'. LSU is like a sound-holding bowl.
