Rowland is fast

Hey everyone. Auburn's ace photographer, Todd Van Emst, sent along this awesome photo of sprinter Marcus Rowland.

The sophomore ran a 10.18 in the 100-meter semis and qualified for the NCAA final. He already owns the fastest 100 time in the NCAA this year, so he technically is the favorite.

Lightning substance.

(from previous thread)
I would almost be disappointed if the SEC added anyone else. With the schedules as they are, we still miss certain big opponents for four years before they return to our conference schedule.

You could argue that with more power teams in the power conference, you drop the non-conference games, but then the rift between conferences becomes even greater. No one plays each other until the post-season, and the lower schools have a TREMENDOUS drop off in annual athletic income.

I think for the good of the sport, more than 12 teams might be creating a monster. A scary one that doesn't do much good for anyone not in control of it.

wells, if we got moved to the East, we would likely gain back some of our traditional rivals, although we would likely lose rivalries with every west team other than Bama.

I don't want expansion, but status quo gets you killed.

I'll repost this from previous thread:

If Slive's plan is looking to the East, he's lost and lost badly.

Slive could be the guy who went all-in before the flop with a pair of aces (the SEC's reputation in football) and got nothing after that.

All the schools to the East (Tech, Va. Tech, Clemson, FSU, Miami) add little in terms of TV markets and virtually zip to the footprint. It might make sense geographically, but this isn't a Monopoly game. You've got to have properties in different places in this world.

Other than ND, there is nobody the SEC could add that would compare with Texas and Oklahoma.

Before Bowden, FSU was Florida International.

Georgia Tech is pretty impressive, but wouldn't increase the footprint.

Clempson is more impressive than South Carolina, but that ain't saying much. South Carolina should change their mascot to the fighting brides maids.

Virginia Tech would definitely have an impact, but it isn't Texas and Oklahoma.

Rowland had the fastest time in the world for the year at one point (so did a certain other AU track guy that once played football), but I'm pretty sure he doesn't even have the fastest time in the NCAA anymore, much less the world. Usain ran a few weeks ago and ran a 9.86 (I think, not going to look it up, because whatever it was is faster than any current college kid), taking the fastest in the world for the year, which he will likely hold on to for the remainder of the year.

And I love what Leo Mazzone did, but umm, yeah he has a hard time seeing issues outside of "his teams".

Maybe the PAC-10 commish knew what te sanctions were going to be a few weeks abck and made a move to get the 6 teams from the Big 12. If USCw goes on a 2yr bowl bann, that would hurt their conference cash flow. Bring in UT, OK and the others and you still have a great shot at landing someone in the BSC title game each year. USC, no shot for 2 yrs then the scholly reductions could keep them with no shot for @ 4 more years.

wtc, I don't think USC's probation has anything to do with it. It is much longer sighted than that. The expansion is all about creating a new network like the Big 10 network. It is all money.

From what I have read, it will really be two conferences. Two BCS bowl bids (they are requesting), no conference championship game. It will be the old PAC 8 and then the Arizona + Big 12 schools. The only thing done as a conference will be the TV deal.

Mom and 16 year old son here as legal immigrants (she is married to an American), and are applying for citizenship. Son has prior battery conviction and pleaded guilty to a marijuana charge today. A month ago the son hit his mom, due to the previous battery conviction it was a felony. With a felony conviction, the son wouldn't be eligible.

The mom wants to drop the charges (even though the night of the incident she pleaded with me to make sure he gets locked up, because she was so scared of him), because if he gets deported there is no one in their home country to take care of him. I understand why she would want this, as his mother. But if he is going to batter his mother repeatedly, who won't he hit? His girlfriend? His kids?

Thats the point Seanzie, the state dropped the charges.

I don't blame her for wanting them dropped, I blame the state for listening to her.

They were all set to go to trial, then the morning of the trial she said she wants them dropped. The judge even said he doesn't like circumventing the legal system for immigration reasons but its up the the SA.

The husband was very involved the night of the incident, but he wasn't at court today.

I feel bad for the mom honestly, she is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She has a bolt lock installed on her bedroom door so she can hide from the son when she is home alone with him. But you know how mom's are with their sons, don't know when to say when.

SFC - why are you trying to further lower the IQ in Washington DC by doing this?

Not sure how difficult it would be to verify, but I heard that the Big 10 payouts for tv, actually meant that Indiana brought in more revenue from tv than Texas, or any single team in the SEC.

No wonder folks want to bolt from the big (soon to be tiny) 12

That's not actually accurate. The Big 10 network is all of Indiana's media distribution. The SEC gets a distribution from the TV deal with ESPN, plus they retqin their media rights. Florida makes a TON of money more than Indiana in total TV rights.

MYTD, the conference payout in the big 11 is more than the SEC, but each school in the SEC still has their own media rights. I just heard on the radio that the walmartians brought in an additional $9mil last year. I did not hear a report on AU.

It's also important to remember that they have 1 less team to split the money with.

You're probably right, THT, but it's an interesting idea.
