Getting Our Bearings

Hey everyone. So as you have surmised, I was asked (politely) to make Wednesday my last day of work at the Advertiser. Nobody should be upset with the Advertiser; they are keeping to their word and sending me on my way with what they agreed to give me. No hard feelings.

I am hopeful that Brian Woodham, who recently left a part-time gig with ITAT to take a full-time job as a copy editor at the Advertiser, will be given an opportunity to take my old job. Brian would be a great addition. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.

As I explained on Facebook, we will have a board at AuburnSports.com with a stricter standard when it comes to cussing and any off-putting shenanigans. Personally, I'm good with the Bunker and have read it for a long time. They get a little upset when things don't go well, which is understandable, but I feel like that board's reputation for savage commentary far exceeds reality.

With that said, we will have a HABOTN-esque board over there for people whose tolerance for cussing is at zero. Just want to make that clear.

I'll be starting at AuburnSports.com on Monday.

Take care, errybody. Thanks as always for your support!

This is gonna be real awkward for THT if Davis Jr. does play.

There I am handing over a packet of Sea-Monkeys to MJT's apple buttered hand while Jimmy looks on as he eats his combo meal. All the while THT is trying to figure out his least favorite map.

Figures you would petition WABO, yet another organization run by bammers. They only control Bama Apple Butter. Fortunately for me, I am a Musselman's Apple Butter guy. I have Fredrick Musselman locked in my palace basement, prepared to make me fresh apple butter at the drop of a hat.

These are the kinds of steps you must take to protect what is important when you're King.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

You've made a great point, MJT. I'm going to drive up to Maryland tonight and, under the cover of darkness, "extradite" Mr. McCutcheon to my basement. Do I need to buy a hat? I have a few caps, but I don't own a hat. Or should he bring his own hat?

1:38 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

If we could've gotten him, we would have had seven QBs on the roster. That seems like the right number, especially since we can't have 88 QBs. Even though he would have been the seventh, he wouldn't get to wear #7. That' probably why he signed with a bunch of losers.

1:46 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

@MJT Old Man Musselman? That guy has been off his rocker for years. There's no telling what you're actually eating. Probably some derivative of crab apples and goat butter.

@THT I would think he wears his own hat. Wait. Would he own a chef hat or an apple farmer hat?

We're going to start 5 of our 6 QBs? Not a bad idea considering that we have so few RBs.

2:08 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Didn't know you were a position segregationist when it came to where you could warm a bench, THT. I figured he could help out in the DB or DL sections of the benches.

Are we really going to carry 5 qbs into the fall? Surely not. Some guys have to know they need to move on.

2:17 PM
Blogger michael said...

THT - your Apple Butter Man is free to have his own hat, but you should also be in possession of a hat so that you can drop it whenever you want fresh apple butter. If you are waiting on your ABM to drop his own hat, then you'll be waiting a long time.

If you really don't own a hat (I find this hard to believe), then just steal your ABM's hat.

2:41 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

can't I just drop a cap? There are some leftover bricks out near the patio. Been there 15 years and not serving any function. Can I just drop a brick instead of a hat? Dropping a hat on his toe won't scare him near as much as a brick would. How many intact toes does it take to make fresh apple butter?

2:57 PM
Blogger michael said...

bubbs - I have the same policy with apple butter that I do with asian food. I don't care if crab apples or dog or cat is in it, if it eats good and doesn't make me sick, then I'm all for it.

2:59 PM
Blogger michael said...

THT - I guess you're right. As long as you and your ABM are on the same page, you can use pretty much any command to make him start churning.

I'd recommend you avoid making the apple-butter-making command, "STOP MAKING APPLE BUTTER," because the time may actually come when you don't want your ABM to make apple butter. It creates a confusing situation. I learned that lesson the hard way. That's how Don Musselman drowned in apple butter in my basement.

3:04 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Our basement isn't that cold. How do you refrigerate a basement full of apple butter? I'm tempted to come dive down your basement steps.

3:12 PM
Blogger michael said...

Well, the apple butter in that basement is hard as a rock now. It's solidified in the years since the Apple Butter Incident. I didn't feel like having the basement cleaned after it flooded with Don inside. It's basically an Apple Butter Tomb now. I figure it will make for interesting excavating 10,000 years from now.

I had a new basement dug, and that's where Fredrick hangs out. Since I use the hat dropping method of Apple Butter Initiation now, I think there is a very low chance of having another incident. Really, I knew better the first time. It's just that the day I trapped Don in the basement happened to be July 9, and I felt it was appropriate for the ABI command to be ironic.

4:21 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I think your results would have been more impressive if you had used the ABI command on Opposite Day.

Did you move your house over top of the new basement, or is it a free-standing basement?

You should enjoy this part of the article, THT:

"That also speaks to the state of the position at both schools. Alabama has a recent pedigree of producing top-tier linebackers — Ragland, Dont’a Hightower, Nico Johnson, Rolando McClain, Courtney Upshaw and C.J. I mean, maybe Holland has great a form tackle, but look how that worked out for him.

I did yesterday! I'm not accustomed to more than 2 or 3 posts a week here. I have not changed with the times. I'm a complete failure. I will write a remorse-filled letter of apology to my hero in Wetumpka. Or maybe I'll just carry on like nothing happened.

rats, it's too late. I've already received notices of court-martial and impeachment proceedings against me by the BEASLEY!!! Fan Club. They've obtained an injunction prohibiting me from any future BEASLEY!!! posts :(

I always say I want to move to Alaska, but the wife is more interested in Pacific Northwest. The problem is the whole job thing. I don't think she'd be cool with living on ~nothing while we try to establish ourselves, and it's not quite as easy to find a job when you have no network out there.

So, you know, if any of you guys want to fund our move and a couple years start up I'd consider your offer.

2:22 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

all you funders out there, I got a better deal for you. I'm only interested in moving 80 miles to Winston-Salem. Even my alternate choices of Pittsburgh and Laramie are much closer than Alaska or any point in the Pacific Northwest. As an added bonus, I'll settle for just one year start up costs.

Hey bubbs, maybe we should have a Go Fund Me competition.

I wasted $19.95. I just found Norm (commenting under a screen name Chad Simmons), offering FREE recruiting news on a podcast(is that what it is?) on the auburn.scout.com web site. "Chad" says shocker of Nigel Warrior to AU. "Chad" also states that AU, ua-t, TN, and GA are all in play for Derrick Brown and it "wouldn't shock me for him to pick any four of those".

Yo, N̶o̶r̶m̶ Chad, what about the WR/DB combo from Florida?

I'm preparing for all of our targets to go elsewhere. I fully expect us to be unable to fill the scholarship openings that we have. We'll be scrambling at the end of the week to fill out our roster through JUCO and 2* prospects that didn't get offered elsewhere.

Recruitmas Eve tidings from MOM:

Yesterday:
MOM's final NSD prediction:

Brown (he told coaches before the UT visit he was coming)
Meyers (both of them)
Warrior (he told coaches before the UT visit he was coming)
EJ Price or Sammons (MOM says the coaches feel very good about landing Price, but she doesn't feel as confident as they do)
Davis, Jr will not sign with AU. Grade casualty.

We can sign 25
Gave one to our punter
Gave one to the Texas OL transfer form last year
Leaves AU with 23 to give.
We have 17 committed.
If we do not lose Marshall that leaves us room for 6.
The list above has 5 of them.
AU leaving room for at least 1, maybe 2 May 2016 grad transfers coming in. Possibly the OT from up north and another QB (MOM says up until the JSU QB got into trouble he was coming to AU) AU is concerned they do not have a back up if JF3 gets hurt. Would Barrett be ready play is JF3 goes down?

Today:
AM Update:
Spoke with MOM last night. She is getting nervous on Nate. She hopes it isn't like the Alexander brothers where AU got the short end of that deal. She has been nervous on him for about 2 weeks, Still thinks he signs with AU but is just getting a little nervous.
AU told the safety from Lee High in MGM that we were full, so that means they feel REAL good about the Warrior kid. I know his dad played at UT but he is not close to him. Mom is from Tuskegee and she likes AU a lot, not that they made much difference for us the past :)

PM Update:
MOM says another coach (former AU coach who is now a DC at another SEC school) told his friend (former AU player) that Warrior told him he was signing with AU. (Is that cryptic enough?)

MOM is concerned over NCM and UNC. Just has an uneasy feeling about him for some reason. No one else does, but she does.
MOM can't figure out where the Brown to UGA stuff is coming from. UGA is not on his list, when he talks about the list, before the UT visit, but afterward UGA is supposedly the favorite to get him, based on their MODS.
Warrior and Brown visited UT together. MOM says it did not go well for either of them and they sort of regretted going.

Side not-UA will close strong. They may even rise from #12 earlier today to #1 or #2 by Wednesday afternoon. They have 2 5* kids and could land 4 more. With the big OT they got today they moved to #9. Many thought that kid was a lock to Ole Miss.
Oh well, to the winners go the spoils.

Good luck to AU on NSD. War Eagle.

It's a good thing we are getting highly rated WRs. We'll need them to block on the edges these next few years.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

JMiii video on al.com showed a Nick Marshall type QB with strong arm, elusiveness, and great speed. Too few passes to know how accurate he is, and whether or not he can locate the correct receiver. As long as our highly rated WR signees can seal the edges, we won't have to worry about him locating the correct receiver.

I guess TC was more interested in being on the field at ISU than on the bench at any SEC school.

bubbs, cut Norm some slack. He's been working tirelessly for the past ten months to provide us with unparalleled recruiting news. Now that NSD is here, he's earned a well-deserved rest. That doesn't mean he's still not a slacker.

@Tony_Catalina
This is not accurate. Tyler has not made his final decision yet and is still reviewing all options.

12:29 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

It all comes down to the confidence he has in his ability to play SEC football. If he thinks he can, ISU can kiss him good-bye. He has at least 3 SEC offers doesn't he? Of course, he could make a middle of the road choice and sign with Penn State ;-)

12:37 PM
Blogger michael said...

I wonder if he's related to the dressing.

12:44 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

If he doesn't own the car, he really should. Has the Bagman promised such? Surely, he's thought to do so.

Is it time for us to look for a new Bagman, by the way? I feel like he really peaked in 2010.

12:49 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

great idea, bubbs. Where does one find a top-notch bagman? Is that something you'll find on LinkedIn, or CraigsList? We aren't going to have to pay our current bagman millions of dollars over the next 4 years, are we?

Typical bammer-controlled recruiting services... Jayvaughn Myers lost a star the moment he signed with AU.

How about this news that Amazon is going to open 400 brick & mortar stores, seems like a lot.

1:39 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Maybe they can take over all those Walmart stores that just shut down.

1:47 PM
Blogger michael said...

I just looked at some videos of Prince Salmon. He looks like more of a DE or TE to me than an OT. Interesting that they want to put him on the o line.

1:49 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm curious if either of our Princes will gain enough football maturity to become king on either side of the line. I sure hope so.

Amazon opening brick & mortar? That defies all logic. The only reason people buy from Amazon now is because they hate going to a brick and mortar place. Bricks and mortar are expensive. Maybe they could just use a bunch of reclaimed Quonset huts.

2:02 PM
Blogger michael said...

i bet some of the stores are actually cinderblock. Maybe even a few stucco stores.

of course, his NLI is not yet in Auburn's hands. He's not related to Koujisandoaidfsldifaysd is he?

2:15 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

@MJT It is interesting that they know they want to move him to that side of the ball. He's pretty green too. Played only 2 years(?). We'll see if the project pays off.

2:30 PM
Blogger michael said...

Just watched Derrick Brown's highlight video... and wow he looks explosive.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, risking my reputation as a Football Expert, but I'm going to go against the flow here and predict that Derrick Brown will be good at college football.

2:48 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

i.e. he's not another Adams, or Hart, or that DL we always used to talk about that had to go to JUCO first and then never did squat at AU. Actually, I'm leaving off quite a few names of 5* failures.

2:51 PM
