yes, bubbs, it will be a crying shame if my recent discovery of AU's 2016 football season gets washed away in Oxford.

Thanks, E-Bro. This last trip around the sun was pretty darn good.

The Ole Miss game is yuge. We will learn if this team can handle success. Too often you see teams have a big game, suddenly be back, and then leave again the week after. Hopefully Auburn will be back a bit longer than that.

This game is making me nervous, THT. If the first quarter goes our way, that player meeting stuff goes out the window, but you don't want to give a team like that hope.

On the plus side, the FPI likes us to win this one. And Vegas.

10:00 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm just happy that I'm now in a position where I'll be surprised if we lose.

10:18 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Thanks Bubbs.

Ole Miss tends to come out strong and fade as the game goes along. Auburn players need to realize this and not worry about what happens early.

As for player meetings, once they get punched in the mouth, they won't be concerned with the meeting.

I am not really worried about what Ole Miss does. I believe they have a couple of offensive linemen beat up. That means everyone should consider sending flowers to Chad Kelly.

I worry more about how Auburn reacts to success. If they believe how great they are from all the recent media attention, Auburn is in real trouble.

10:19 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

If we don't stumble against OM, VU, or GA, we'll end up 10-2 and headed to ATL if LSU can beat aTm.

10:24 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

At this point I am not concerned at all about Vandy or Georgia, other than Smart's safety.

Before the season I thought Texas A&M was the crucial game. It turns out LSU was. But Arkansas comes in second, with Ole Miss third.

I already consider this season a success. With the number of young players we are playing, things are looking up. It is too soon to call Malzahn safe, but he should be. Most of the skill players on offense are sophomores or freshmen. The defense is also pretty young, although some very good linemen will be gone after this season. Fortunately there are other good linemen to step up.

10:44 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Breaking News: Pat Dye confirms that Auburn played well against Arkansas. Here is a link to prove it. Oh, and apparently we aren't allowed to carry over any points from the Arkansas game and apply them to Ole Miss.

11:18 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

We don't need to carry over points. We should beat each of our next 4 opponents by 17 or more points, and then win the Iron Bowl by our usual <10.

11:24 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

sorry, didn't mean to offend michael. We'll treat each of our next 4 opponents to a valuable learning experience wherein they learn to cope with large margins of nonvictory.

Apparently LSU's strategy in defeating Bama revolves around talking a lot of trash before the game. Let's see how that works out for them.

9:24 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

LSU's home record against ua-t is "deplorable". They could whisper sweet nothings in bama's ear and it wouldn't matter.

10:03 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

But you are talking pre-CoachO. Bama has never faced anything like Coach O, other than the times where they beat him like a drum as the head coach at Ole Miss. Other than that, they haven't been able to touch him.

My exclusive review for jaygtate.blogspot.com:

It was great! Backing band was great. It was in a very small venue, so there were no bad seats.

You just kind of have to know what to expect... most of the classics he played only had a faint resemblance to their original forms, but they were still great to hear. His songs from the last 15 years or so that he's written with his current range was some of the best stuff. I wish I had known he wasn't going to play guitar any, because I sat there the whole time hoping he'd do at least a couple of songs with just him on his guitar the way he would do concerts in the 70s, but alas I guess Bob doesn't strum any more. He was great on the piano, though, and the one time he played harmonica he killed it. He also has funny dance moves. And he was shorter than I expected.

11:50 AM

I'll be honest... unlike Hillary. When the "Leff Turns" thread was started on Hv2.0, I did not anticipate the great Leff would be a starter onthe OL. ...And not just a default starter, but a very deserving starter. Well done, Mr. Leff!

My only question was would Leff allow Malzahn to start him? He must be feeling especially benevolent this season.

Word of advice: As good as Chili's Philly cheese steak is, Spanky's barbecue is bad to a similar amplitude. My tummy is sick. It needs to get better before we stop at Lexington Barbecue for an early lunch tomorrow.

At early voting center today, UNC students who live in dorms were registering and voting. They were told to use their dorm address. I wonder how many of them voted in their home county using their home address. I also wonder why on earth they are allowed to vote on local (county) bond referendums (i.e. tax increases) when they aren't permanent residents of this county. As someone once said, "The system's rigged!"

Two things give me hope:
1. the game is in Athens where we are way overdue
2. Malzahn wouldn't be 'surprised' if Kamryn Pettway plays against Georgia

I hope he's not just trying to mess with UGA's defensive game planning.

Auburn will practice players hurdling line to block field goals

Georgia is real scary if Pettway and KJ are both injured. I love how White has played, but there has to be some balance. Pettway has been better by having White as a threat, but the opposite is also very true. The only other health big back seems to be Cox, but from what I understand, he has been full time at h-back recently.

2:39 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I think he'll at least be standing on the sidelines rather sitting on the bench.

3:30 PM
Blogger michael said...

I think he will sit in a bean bag on the sideline.

4:14 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

We had a beanbag bench in '47. It was super comfortable, and all the players liked it. However, when we played uga that year it caused a problem. Near the end of the game, uga received a punt and started their drive. It only took them three plays to score a touchdown. The problem was that almost the entire D Line couldn't get off the bench. We played that series with 9 players on defense.

"Beans don't belong on our benches!" - Thomas Jefferson, AU President

The BBBs were promptly replaced with the old, hard benches. It's also why canned beans aren't allowed on the sidelines at AU games.

True story.

One day following the election, GM announces they will lay off 2,000 Workers at Two U.S. Plants (but not their Mexico plants)

I hope someone on our side double bagged it.

I won't be satisfied until Pettway is upgraded to minute-to-minute. Am I scared of Georgia? You bet. I don't trust them one bit.

Duke @ UNC tonight. Go Chiz Heels!

Tomorrow night is AU basketball. I hope I can find "SEC Network+" on my TV. I'm not sure what the plus stands for.

No seriously. Smell your cell phone. It smells like onions, doesn't it?

U-G-L-Y. Our season is a bell-shaped curve, which means the end is not going to be pretty.

5:33 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I have plans this weekend, and I'm looking for some other commitment to keep me from watching the iron bowl.

9:01 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I'll be in New York about to catch a flight home depending on what time the game is.

I've already made a commitment to not watch the UGA next year, though I'm confident we'll win. Nothing but high blood pressure for me in that game now a days. Think I'll go to the beach or visit a national park or something that weekend. Maybe Big Bend? Can't wait!

10:09 AM
Blogger michael said...

I'll be at my sisters for the Iron Bowl. I'm a glutton for punishment, so I suppose I'll watch the destruction.

11:07 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Not gonna do it. Pretty sure we're almost to the point where us winning would require an act of God.

11:55 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

As we neared the top of our bell-shaped curve, I was tricked into a feeling of great confidence, knowing that Saban cannot beat a 9 win AU team. Then Ole Miss abused our defense, then Vandy almost beat us, then I never felt real good about the Georgia game last week, and now I feel moribund. Saban will swallow us whole and poop us out right in the middle of Toomer's Corner. I will be somewhere outdoors or on the road, far away from a tv.

7 hours til tipoff. GO TIGERS!

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

was it wrong of me to wish for JJ to play the 2nd half?

1:11 PM
Blogger michael said...

I am always against JJ going in.

1:22 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I think the consensus has been that JFIII should have played (just run it). With JJ he may have thrown for 60 yds and 3 INTs.

The consensus among non-Auburn types is "how do you not have a back up?"

I think both opinions are valid. Frankly, your desire for JJ isn't even that crazy.

1:23 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

It was painfully obvious that we couldn't win with GL. Therefore the worst JJ could do is not change the outcome. Who knows, maybe he could have shocked the world and played like he did against Arky in 2014. Otherwise, I would have settled for JFiii and run, run, run... or at least try to.

I'll be surprised if ua-t has to punt even once. 5TDs and 4FGs = 47-3

Only 656 days until kickoff 2018! GO TIGERS!

1:31 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I think you may want to look forward to 2019, THT. Gus is stubborn, and GL has two more years of eligibility.

1:44 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'll hope for a spectacular transformation, and it could happen. Otherwise, if GL remains the starter in 2018, we are in deep kimchi. Or at least shallow kimchi. Depth is irrelevant since I hate kimchi.

2:14 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

If bubbs and THT are back on the "next year or the year after" bandwagon, I'm feeling confident of an imminent turnaround.

Mark it. This weekend's game against A&M is in the bag.

Blogger THT said...

E-Bro, this weekend will be a classic example of a dead cat bounce. It will be an opportunity for those who haven't yet shorted AUT to take a short position before the share price plummets after Thanksgiving. :(

One hour til tipoff. GO TIGERS!!!

My stars! I didn't realize our basketball team was so awful looking. 2:50 of game time was all I could handle. There's got to be hockey somewhere.

8:18 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

there was no hockey. :(
Thankfully, the second half was much better. Let's hope the first half was due to all those new players needing to gel and that they are now all gelled up after that second half.

1390 days until kickoff 2020. Go Tigers!

Sounds like about half the team is injured. And those are just the ones that Gus is admitting to.

11:23 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

From the limited peek we got on TV of Chandler Cox following injury, my first thought was bowl game at the earliest. He made it look bad, and he's not a sissy. If he plays in the Iron Bowl, he'll either prove me wrong or prove he should be playing hockey.

11:38 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

They might as well hold everyone out for the IB. It's not as if we have a reasonable chance of winning that game. Save the wear on tear on these guys.

On the bright side, if we get everyone healthy for the bowl game, we should have a good shot at winning it.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with Saturday afternoon, Nov 26. I have to work until noon and then I have a Buy More double shift on Sunday, so it's not like I can spend the weekend in Vya

Suggestions?

12:04 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

after wishing I could go to Vya on Nov 26, I started looking around the region. Re: Goose Lake on the OR/CA border...
The lake completely dried up in the years 1851, 1852, 1926, 1929–1934, 1992,[7] 2009, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Formerly, Goose Lake was the regular source of the Pit River, but water diversion has caused the lake level to drop below its outlet. The Pit River's source is now south of Goose Lake, and the lake's salinity is increasing, threatening fish populations.

I don't pretend to be an icthyologist behind this keyboard, but I'm guessing "completely dried up" would be a greater threat to fish populations than gradually increasing salinity.

Blogger bubbs said...

You're ignorant, and you've proven it, THT.

12:57 PM
Blogger michael said...

fish don't need water.

1:34 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Correct. However, they are prone to high blood pressure. Too much salt and they start having heart attacks left and right.

1:38 PM
Blogger michael said...

why does THT want fish to have heart attacks so much?

1:44 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Two words: Onion Farmers

1:49 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

talk about ignorance. Fish don't have left and right hearts. They don't even have left and right ventricles.

I don't like my catfish to be too salty.
