I was afraid that the latest Trump order may have blocked your re-entry from Florida into the US.

10:45 AM

I was blocked, but then I told the immigration people that Trump brand ties are very very classy, really tremendous ties, let me tell you about those ties, they are made of the best materials, and they tie just great, and before you know it I had been let back into the country.

That's why THT likes snow. He can ski away from the police. Makes sense.

When we moving to Alaska, THT? The wife (self described "beach person" (I really should have vetted her better but I'm stuck now)) admitted last week that she would move to CO. Baby steps.

I'm a better vettor; I married a mountain-momma-wannabe. She wants a house in the NC mountains at least 4,000 foot elevation to get away from summer heat. That would be fine with me. Only problem is, she doesn't want to sell the house we're in. Rest assured that I'll never own two houses.

bubbs, I wouldn't know.

I missed the first 10 minutes of Casablanca last night because I was watching USA vs China in mixed doubles curling. Still, I think that's as close as I've ever come to seeing the entire movie. It really is a good movie.

10:57 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

elaborating on Falcons, I think I've been to two of their home games and pulled for the visitors (who won) both times.
1. Nov 19, 1967 vs the LA Rams, featuring NC native Roman Gabriel at QB (Rams 31-3). It was the day after a very disappointing game in Athens. My dad got on the interstate (what little of it there was back then) that Sunday morning, heading southbound. When he dismissed my concern that we were going the wrong direction, I figured out we were going to the Falcons game. He sort of did the same thing the year before after seeing the Colts & Packers, we made an unexpected (for me) stop at Cole Field House that night to see USC(?) @ MD basketball game. I caught one of the little red MD basketballs they threw in the stands. Still got it, I think.
2. circa 1997 vs Panthers, featuring nobody I remember and a score I don't remember, but Panthers won.

Ask me what happened within the past week and I doubt I could recall much of anything.

Blogger bubbs said...

What did you have for lunch last Friday?

2:16 PM
Blogger michael said...

I punched bubbs in the face and ate his lunch last Friday.

You serious about the offer of tickets for a cupcake game, THT? I very likely will take you up on one of those offers... my son ain't been to a game yet, so I figured I should take him this year sometime.

bubbs, the act of ditching the family to watch football with someone else... that is a costly act. The cost/reward assessment shows it wouldn't be worth it for the 11/18 game. Now after we infect THT with the bird flu in early November as planned and he offers us his Iron Bowl tickets, then yes, we should ditch our families and go see Gus lose/keep his job on the jumbotron while in THT's seats.

4:53 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Friday? That's easy. It was a work day: Banana, homemade chicky salad sammich with cashews, a wedge of Laughing Cow swiss "cheese" with some triscuits, a strawberry nutrigrain bar, and a York peppermint patty. There used to be two fudge sticks after the nutrigrain bar, but I gave them up a year or two ago. I think they started making them in China and there was no QC.

Saturday? I have no earthly idea.

I'm immune to any birds that ever flu. Just don't get any of your Eurasian ostriches near me.

Looks like they'll be staying in Auburn. Church options are much better there than in Chapel Hill.

I didn't watch UNC/Duke last night because I had much better options (hockey), but someone sent me an interesting stat, probably from tv broadcast

Prior to last night, in the previous 96 games of the rivalry (~40 years)
Wins
48 UNC
48 Duke

Total points
7437 UNC
7437 Duke

That's a pretty close rivalry

1:25 PM
Blogger michael said...

If Bruce Pearl has dyscalculia, does he get a pass?

Ebro, I agree with you assessment on the need for rock. I was so dang thirsty for good new rock bands in the late 90s. There was MTV, which was terribe, and all we had in Memphis was the a station that played Creed, Days of the New, Incubus, a Perfect Circle, Sevendust, and older grunge stuff. I hated the limp bizkit/korn wave that came in. It's not wonder I got primarily into jam bands and old stuff around that time. Of course now I own some solid alternative music from that timeframe that I wasn't aware of in high school.

1:27 PM

Sad thing is I had a buddy who was pretty clued into a lot of the indie rock of the time like Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, etc., but he hardly ever said anything about the music he listened to except that we knew he was a massive Pink Floyd fan.

He used to have a Pavement sticker on his car and we'd ask, "Mack, what's/who's Pavement?" "Just this band I listen to." And nothing else was said about them and we didn't know to follow up.

E-Bro, that makes no sense!

Your friend is what caused a backlash culture called "hipsters." He should probably apologize to us.

Yeah. The White Buffalo is worth some spotify time. Given some other bands you like, I think he'd find a home amid your playlist somewhere.

Blogger E-Bro said...

Well, he had a lot of classic hipster hallmarks except don't hipsters try to cram their tastes down your throat and then abandon them when they become too popular or trendy?

He wasn't like that. He just really kept to himself about it.

Blogger michael said...

Hipsters didn't exist in the 90s. Yes there were a few proto-hipsters, as seen in films like reality bites and high fidelity, but at the time they would have been referred to as "tools."

I feel like a babysitter. You children talking about your new fangled musical play toys that I've never heard about. Y'all need to come to grips with the fact that 97.5% of all good music was created between 1955 and 1975. Neutral Milk Hotel? Didn't they open for Bleached Biscuit Worms?

Sounds like Mack needed a diet or bariatric surgery. How massive was he?

Yes, I was fully cognizant of my dyscalculia... immediately after I pressed "publish your comment". I was hoping Feng would edit it for clarity.

One bit of good news in the sports world yesterday: Penguins 4, Canucks 0

Blogger bubbs said...

I'm not sure you're a very good babysitter.

Reading is fundamental, guys. I said your friend caused a "backlash" culture. i.e. people responded to his demeanor. Hipsters were a response.

You may be on to something, bubbs. MrsTHT likes to tell the story (mostly fictional) of when she came home just after our infant child filled his diaper. According to her fictionalized version, as she walked in the door, I held infant out towards her and proclaimed "It needs you."

Errbody on Fight Club wants to visit Alaska, THT. I think we should come up with "vacation package." We can get them to pay to help us move.

maybe they can drop me off in Laramie on the way back.

I'm looking at a trip to Iceland in early April. Is there a package AUFC is offering for that?

1:12 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Buck has to stop somewhere. Just so happens that this time it's not with your friend.)

If you pay my way, I'll be your guide and translator, E-Bro. That's the regular package for Iceland. If your interested in something more inclusive, I can put something together.

High Fidelity: The Record Store Scenes is a great movie, Ebro.
High Fidelity: The Relationship Stuff is a terrible movie. At least that's how I felt when I watched in as a freshman in college.

You know, since they say the earth is a sphere, once you make it to Alaska you can pretty much walk over the north pole to iceland, ebro.

also Ebro, you never closed your parenthesis, so everything you are doing right now is merely parenthetical.

I'd love to spend a volcanic eruption-free month or two in Iceland. If I ever head back to AZ, I'm going to have to go here. Not sure how I managed to miss that in 2012. I guess I should have had bubbs for my guide.

2:30 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I closed the parenthesis for E-Bro in my post, MJT. Surprised you didn't know that.

We always go there on the AZ tours, THT.

Blogger E-Bro said...

Thanks for looking out, bubbs.

3:14 PM
Blogger michael said...

Who are you talking to, Ebro?

3:30 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Whoa, how did you know I was talking to somebody?

Freaky, dude.

3:43 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Just so you guys know, it's usually a pretty safe bet that I'm not talking to someone at any given time.

4:46 PM
Blogger michael said...

I just placed a hefty bet that you are not talking to anyone right now. Do I win or lose?

Jaromir Jagr celebrated his 45th birthday by assisting on a 3rd period goal for his 1900th career NHL point. He would have put a lot more space between himself and the 3rd place career point leader if he hadn't taken a break from the NHL to play 4 1/2 seasons in Europe.

9:32 AM
Blogger michael said...

Funny, that's the same way I was planning on celebrating my 35th birthday. Great minds!

Blogger bubbs said...

"Right now" as when I was reading your comment or "right now" when you typed it?

I was planning on celebrating your 35th birthday with by taking THT to Alaska. But your idea sounds good. We'll just watch you do that.

9:05 am central time. Hurry up and let me know, I need to know if I need to arrange for a cab to pick me up after work if I lose my car to this guy.

11:42 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I can't help you out today, michael, but I could give you a ride home from work tomorrow. I'll pick you up on my way home from work...I should be there about 1:30 a.m. CST Saturday.

12:14 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

That's unfortunate, MJT. I actually was on a work call at 905. So unless you made the provision in the bet that it had to be an in person conversation, you'll need to call that cab.

12:44 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Will you guys be stopping at Waffle House on your ride? If so, can you swing by here and pick me up, too? That sounds like a good time.

12:45 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I have been in a Waffle House in my lifetime, probably more than once. I'm guessing it's been 20 years, maybe even 30.

1:43 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Then it's been 30 years too many.

Do they have a WH in Alaska?

1:46 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I believe the dominant chain in AK is Waffle Igloo.

2:05 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Hmmm. I'll need to check their menu.

2:33 PM
Blogger michael said...

Waffle house is good but it's prices are ridiculously expensive for what you get, in my opinion.

Looks like I'm walking home today. I'll gladly accept that ride after work tomorrow, THT.

Got any more "sure bets" bubbs? I might try a double or nothing bet to get my car back.

3:07 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

double or nothing on AU to win next football national championship. You'll have more cars than you can park in your driveway.

3:14 PM
Blogger michael said...

I am 100% sure AU will win the next championship, but I don't feel like waiting that long to get a car. Will you give me rides home until then?

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

walking will be better for your health... unless you get run over or bitten by a copperhead or fall into a wormhole.

Here's a sure fire bet, MJT:

E-Bro wont talk to a girl tonight (that he's not related to).

5:23 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

just a few minutes into tonight's matchup vs the Team Formerly Known As Thrashers, Sidney Crosby makes a great play and a great pass for Chris Kunitz's one-timer into the net. Why is that important? The assist was Crosby's 1000th career point.

michael, it may take a bit longer for a payoff than the E-Bro bet, but I think it's a safe bet that Crosby won't catch Jagr.

6:36 PM
Blogger michael said...

Hey Ebro, did you talk to any girls last night?

Also the linked article fits very well with that page turn.

It looks like I may have been wrong about the highest number that exists, THT. It is apparently 5000.

y'all's posting incompetence is not why I'm sad. The cause is the death of a great entertainer and an even better person.
