Looks like it was built by ants if you ask me.

And we got basically no snow. I'm at work now. Should have called James Spann's bluff.

we're supposed to get about 6" between tonight and late tomorrow morning. Various computer models say anywhere from 3 to 10. With our usual luck, we'll end up with only 3 :(
They had 20+ inches here 7 months before we moved from jawja. That would have been so awesome!

Auburn will make him pay for that decision whenever we play Howard, I'll tell you that much. You don't spurn Auburn without repercussions!

Breakfast. By far the most important.

epic fail by our meteorologist, whose "promise" is an "honest forecast". As late as 11pm they were predicting 6-8" of snow. The snow stopped very shortly thereafter with a grand total of about 3/4", now covered with about 1/2" of sleet. I bet that famous 18th century Salem, NC, climatologist, Joe-han Schmidtstrudle, had more accurate weather predictions.

Time to move to WY. Atlas Van Lines reports Wyoming had the highest ratio of outbound:inbound moves of all 50 states last year. That just means I could get a really good deal on a house in Laramie now. The entire state has about 1/4 the population of the RDU metro; that is highly appealing. Oh wait, I just remembered... MrsTHT has veto power on any more moves.

1:23 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'd move to WY, but the wife has already made it known it would be without her.

Actually, that's not true. She basically said she'd be miserable and in turn would make me miserable. Which, really, is even worse than me going it alone.

You must be a Lt Col, a measly O-5. The real Captain Boxhead is of course a Spaceship Captain, which, following the naval ranking system, is an O-6.

What does it feel like to be so far below Captain Boxhead in rank?

10:39 AM

West Georgia (D-II): The University of West Georgia is looking to fill a video coordinator/GA position starting in May.

Rumor has it the prior video coordinator/GA will soon be announced as AU's new OC.

8:10 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'm strangely optimistic about the situation. I'm leaning towards Gus realizing he needs to get a real OC in there to run the O. That he needs to fully transition to being a HC.

I think it's prolly something I ate. All logic points towards the pit.

“We believe that a coaching change will reinvigorate Cal football, stimulate lagging ticket sales and renewals and energize our alumni, donor and fan base,” UC Berkeley Athletic Director Mike Williams said in an email to donors Sunday night.

Who are they going to hire, especially at this late date, who will rescue their ticket sales? I mean, seriously, they are still Cal.

Bigger splash hire... Cal HC or AU OC?

8:50 AM

mercy, bubbs. I think you've been hanging around me far too long.

Well, if both programs are smart, they'll be looking to hire from that renowned coaching staff at Boston College. Cal could hire Adazzio and we could hire the BC offensive coordinator. That should work.

9:15 AM

I think we hire some old Gus guy to come in and be Rhett 2.0. Gus gets fired in a year or two and welcome in our new head coach Rhett Lashlee.

checking footballscoop, as I often do this time of year...

Green Bay Blizzard (Indoor): Diamond Weaver has joined the staff as defensive backs coach / pro personnel assistant with the Blizzard organization.

Does that mean they also have an unpaid volunteer personnel assistant? Or does that mean they have a separate assistant for the amateur personnel? Or does it just mean they like to put superfluous extra words in their statements?

9:41 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

So... is the reason CGM hasn't yet named an OC because he doesn't want it to look like he already had a hire waiting when he told RL to skeedaddle? I'm not sure what the proper etiquette is in this situation. Amy Vanderbilt and Emily Post have wildly disparate views on the subject.

How do the Eurasian coaches handle it?

9:52 AM
Blogger michael said...

The fans all send faxes in of who they want the new OC to be. The head coach has to pick the one the fans want most. that is why all the Eurasian teams are so successful.

10:21 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I know some pretty offensive people. I'll pick a name out of an old shoe and fax it to Gus.

It is mathematically impossible for all Eurasian teams to be so successful unless their schedules include a lot of non-Eurasian teams. Any chance we'll see AU schedule a series with that school in Magnitogorsk, the "Black Pearl of the Urals"?

11:01 AM
Blogger michael said...

If a Eurasian team loses a lot of games, it's players and coaches are disappeared, and the team is retroactively deemed "not a real team," because a real Eurasian team wouldn't ever be made up of a bunch of losers. Like I said, all Eurasian teams are really successful.

11:37 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Eurasian teams are tremendous. Just tremendous. They're very, very exciting to watch. They do great things. They're players are incredible people and work very hard to be the best there is. Not a single loser out of the whole bunch.

I would have thought you a Steelers fan, THT.

I don't really have a team I follow, but I do like the Packers. I hope they win it all.

We've got another couple of weeks to go for an OC if we're only at R. I'm not expecting a hire until we get to TT. Any confidence I had in a great hire disappeared when we made it past B. Or maybe I should say when we started at F.

10:36 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I think it would be cool to wait until after signing day to hire a new OC. We could sell the kids on it like "Coming here is like buying a scratch off card. You're probably going to get something terrible/nothing but there's a chance you could be coached by a big time OC. Which big time OC you say? Well, which do you want? There's a chance we'll get him!"

Maybe we can hire Gus Malzahn as OC?

You aren't taking the postition? Did you get a raise, michael?

somebody at the Buy More satellite store is selling Girl Scout cookies on behalf of their granddaughter. I was tempted to tell her to get her lazy granddaughter off her lazy butt if she wants to sell cookies. Instead, I bought a box of Thin Mints. Should I eat them all or take them home?

11:17 AM
Blogger michael said...

Well I started taxing the people of Eurasia more in anger for not being chosen the new OC, so in a way I got a raise.

11:18 AM
Blogger michael said...

Girl Scout cookies aren't special any more now that I found out Keebler makes "Coconut Dreams," which are basically samoas. I can't get those any dang time I want.

11:20 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Since I don't like the texture when chewing candle wax, I don't eat coconut. I think I'll have another Thin Mint.

I'm a samoa fan. Candle wax eats good.

Hey bubbs they have some great tasting candles on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond this week. Might want to drop by there.

Nice. Nothing like a vanilla cupcake scented candle.

i'm guessing you'll get a vanilla-flavored coordinator instead. So much for those double passes

mercy, I may have been right again...

Auburn: Texas A&M offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone “could be the leader” for the OC position at Auburn reports Travis Haney of 247 sports. (footballscoop.com)

Auburn will win the next 12 Iron Bowls.

(if I'm going to be right, I might as well make it count)

2:18 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

OUCH! Vanilla is expensive!
If he leaves Texas A&M for another SEC coaching position, Mazzone would owe 100 percent of his remaining base salary, or approximately $1.2 million. (al.com, quoting dallasnews.com)

apparently, too pricey

I'm thinking more and more that Malzahn is going to loeffler this one big time, which is actually pretty smart from his perspective. Isn't that how Chiz ended up making millions for doing nothing?

That's where I won a pair of Rosignol skis in a slalom race in December 1975. I'm guessing you weren't even born then? Have fun out there, bubbs.

10:47 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Me and 1975 never met.

I plan on having fun. Right now it's got a lot going for it. Like, it's not work and it's got below freezing temperatures with snow. Those alone are enough to make it a lock for me.

10:58 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

the first day I skied there it was 22 below zero and the airline had not yet found my luggage from the day before. That is the very coldest I have ever been. My luggage arrived around lunch time and I think I put every article of clothing on.

While you're out there, see if you can find us an OC from the local high school coaching staff.

11:12 AM
Blogger michael said...

I've never snow skied before. That's for rich people like bubbs.

I am going to Disney World next week, though.

12:06 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Hate to break it to you, MJT, but I don't think we're skiing while there. I think there will be some tubing though!

Disney is for suckers.

What do you think a president leaving office does his first night after being done?

I bet he sleeps pretty good.

12:16 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm not going anywhere next week. I guess I'll have to do the work of all 3 of us.

bubbs, not skiing?! You'll be missing out on something more fun than football. And you'd be less likely to bust your spleen than with tubing.

1:01 PM
Blogger michael said...

bubbs hates his own spleen. no one knows why.

1:13 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

This will be shocking, guys.

Are you seated?

I'm not calling the shots on this trip. So I didn't press for the skiing. Plus, I'm poor like MJT, and I've never skied before so I don't even know what I'm missing. I bet all this will make next week even that much more painful on THT. All that snow wasted on a spleen vendetta.

1:17 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

in the good ol' days, poor students could ski. My 6 day lift ticket at Steamboat cost me $36. That's total, not per day. Our condo was very close to the slopes, but technically not ski in/out. Combine that with the number of people we stuffed in there and it was pretty inexpensive. At night my brother-in-law and I would hitchhike into town for cheaper food. I still have my Wild West Sarsaparilla soda can, looks like this one

bubbs, thanks for prompting some wonderful memories.

1:47 PM
Blogger michael said...

Nowadays skiing equipment alone costs nearly 1 million dollars. Times have changed, THT.

1:50 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'm confused about your timeline. So were you married and student at the same time? Or was that your future brother in law? Was Mrs. THT a part of this adventure?

How long was this hike? I'm thinking there may be times when I need to justify some time away from the rest of the yahoos I'm going with.

2:00 PM
Blogger michael said...

Don't dig too deep, bubbs. THT is actually a 25 year old web site designer who works and lives in his mother's basement.

2:04 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Re: 2pm

yes, but that wasn't until 6 yrs later.

no, it was my then current brother-in-law

I didn't meet MrsTHT until about 13 months later. MrsTHT has no brothers, btw.

I think we flew out on a Saturday and back the following Saturday. 6 ski days in between. I had found this trip posted on a bulletin board in Haley Ctr or maybe Parker Hall. There were college kids from all over the country that signed up.

3 years later a group of 18 of my fraternity bros and Little Sisters went to Aspen/Snowmass. We left after Fall finals and drove in 4 cars nonstop except for meals and gas. 9 dudes in one condo and 9 gals in another, in Aspen and not on the slopes, makes for cheap ski trip. I enrolled in Aspen State Teachers College that week. Won the Milk Race on the last day. The milk race was all the guys start at the top and the first to the bottom wins a quart of milk that the others have to pay for. One of the Little Sisters was from Fort Worth, so we stopped there for supper on the way out and breakfast on the way back, plus swapped one of the cars out for her parents' Suburban. We had CB radios in each car and we thought that was cool.

more good memories.

blogger, not web designer. And it's a one-story ranch house. And i just turned 26.

2:34 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I think you're being less than truthful about living on a ranch. Ranch people and ski people are two different people.

2:57 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

So where did you grow up, THT? It sounds like either you had some good ski experience, or you hung out with a lot people that were really bad at skiing.

2:58 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I hung out with bad skiers. I grew up in the piedmont region of NC. If I had grown up with skiers, I would love to have been a downhill racer, or maybe a ski jumper. I loved going from top to bottom as fast as possible and looking for any chance to get airborne. Even at my best, I was pretty lousy on moguls. I love watching mogul skiers and wondering how on earth they manage to keep their skis together and their upper body so nearly motionless. I never could master that. But going from top to bottom on a non-mogully run requires no skill, just gravity. Skiing is too expensive now. Plus, I could really get hurt and never heal.

Crepea: Auburn's offensive coordinator search, nearing the end of its ninth day, is hinging on a high stakes showdown over power and control between coach Gus Malzahn and those with influence over the program, a source told AL.com.

It's about time. I thought we had figured out how to get the internal power struggle up and running quicker than this.

Ok, OC is on board. Let's Make Auburn Great Again.

Mercy, poor Willie Taggart. His staff hasn't exactly gotten off to a stellar start. Last week the strength and conditioning coach he brought from USF was suspended for nearly killing several players.

And now, just 5 days after being hired (also from Taggart's former staff at USF)...
Oregon: Athletic director Rob Mullens announced today that the university has placed tight ends coach / co-offensive coordinator coach David Reaves on administrative leave and “the process to terminate his employment with cause has commenced,” following Reaves’ arrest for DUI late last night.

MJT, you wanna update your rough football rankings (not involving Auburn) after those trashy championship games yesterday?

8:09 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

It will be one of almost 40 Super Bowls I haven't watched.

8:42 AM
Blogger michael said...

Maybe I should have put a disclaimer in my rankings that blowout wins are boring for impartial observers regardless of the circumstances. I figured that went without saying.

If I had a different set of rankings for blowouts though, the only change I would make would be to put the Super Bowl on top, because the food and commercials can make it an OK experience even if the game stinks.

10:33 AM
Blogger michael said...

Lindsey is definitely Malzahn's guy, so I guess he won in the supposed power struggle with Jacobs? Can we count that as Malzahn's 9th win of the season? If he pulls in a top 10 recruiting class, we'll go ahead and call it a 10 win season.

10:36 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Sorry for bustin' chops, MJT. I'm just bitter about the paucity of good games this NFL playoff season.

12:58 PM

I'm also confounded by bubbs going to Steamboat Springs and not skiing. Can only assume he's on a top secret mission to coax a contractual agreement from Verne to never call another college football game.

Godspeed, bubbs!

Hey bubbs, do you still have a spleen? Yo, michael, stay away from those spinning tea cups. I'm almost ready to barf just thinking about it.

12:03 PM
Blogger michael said...

I did the spinning teacups yesterday after much peer pressure. No one can make dat thing spin like dad. I came out of it fine, thankfully.

The thing that messes me up is that space mission thing at Epcot. I feel sick for about an hour after that thing.

8:25 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

That "tumbler chair" (I don't know what NASA calls it) in Huntsville didn't bother me nearly as much as the teacups. It probably didn't help that I stupidly hung my head back out of the cup and couldn't get it back in due to the centrifugal force.

He told AL.com Auburn is "pretty even" with Western Kentucky, which he visited last weekend. Florida Atlantic is also in the mix

We're running with the big dogs now!
