mjt, the cafe at the east end of the building serves really tasty maps.

I've just finished a new on line course. I'm now using mjt's tv to listen to the Eurasian Irony Committee's double secret meeting on this year's Irony Day parade route, while at the same time reprogramming bubbs's wife's car to go directly to Alaska the next time she turns on the ignition. Bubbs, there's your chance. All the while, everyone will be convinced E-Bro did it.

She left the house without me today ... This could get awkward.

Well, I...er.... E-Bro can't do everything for you. Just go to the Wikileaks CIA page and click on the "return wife home" link. I'm sure you'll find instructions there.

I think it might take a couple days worth of research to figure that one out, THT ....

Speaking of Alaska, I'm guessing their groundhog did not see it's shadow last month. It is currently 93 (yes, NINETY-THREE) degrees colder in Fairbanks than in Auburn.

3 hockey games on my TV tonight, but none of them are Penguins @ Jets. AU basketball at ~9:40pm EST. I'll probably stick with hockey until I can't find any more hockey. Despite all the recruiting hype, AU still in bottom 4. SAD.

good ol' bubbs, always seeing the glass half full. You have a point. There is no ua-t in the bottom four, so I guess it is a good place to be after all.

bubbs is always such an optimist, it makes me want to puke

2:14 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Well, that should save you an extra poop tomorrow, MJT!

2:27 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

puke story... I remember that time when LB and I were in the D.C. area for map-related stuff. We had spicy Thai food for dinner and then went to B&R for ice cream. We each got a pint. I got the usual chocolate chip. He got Gold Medal Ribbon, which is yummy but a little "richer" than chocolate chip. Driving back to the hotel, all that ice cream fat and Thai spice exploded without warning. He quickly rolled down his window as I was turning left at an intersection. The window didn't get down in time. I spent a lot of time (he was still puking in the bathroom at the hotel) cleaning up as much chocolatey puke from the inside and outside of my car, but never did get it all. When we got back home a few days later, Molly dog was able to get some off the inside of the car that I had missed. There were several permanent wind blown chocolatey puke stains on the inside roof fabric of the car.

2:33 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

was he previously obligated to an extra poop tomorrow? Why wouldn't the standard poop quota be sufficient?

2:38 PM
Blogger michael said...

Pooping is one of my great enjoyments in life. Thanks a lot, bubbs

3:35 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Just part of your Eurasian heritage, michael. I don't want to give away all the details I learned from the double secret Irony Day planning committee (I'll save some for wikileaks), but one Irony Day celebratory contest will involve pooping with Herculean effort.

3:42 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

If it's one of your great enjoyments then you should have enjoyed the puking earlier. Because, really, puking is just pooping with your mouth.

Is there gonna be a Sisyphean effort level poop contest? Because it sure seems like regardless of the quality of poop I have, I always need to do it again before long.

4:22 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Does B&R still exist?

4:39 PM
Blogger michael said...

In Eurasian Mythology, Hercules is famous for turning into a rushing stream with chunks of corn in it, and Sisyphus is famous for eating whatever materials are used in any contest, so you guys are painting some vivid pictures.

6:52 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

there are a few B&Rs here and there. Not one near us but the local grocery store carries my chocolate chip pints.

I'm looking forward to the home run derby where they'll see who can hit the longest home run. Instead of tape measure home runs, they have tapeworm home runs, measured with tapeworms extracted from unsuspecting fans.

I can't find all those hockey games I thought were going to be on my TV.. only the Red Wings losing to the Bruins. Rats. Not a RW fan, but the Bruins are right up there with the Ovechkis and Flyers on my dislike list. I may have to switch to basketball. Or just go to bed.

I listened to Hall of Famer Mike Lange on the Penguins radio broadcast. Pens won 7-4. Evgeni Malkin had a Gordie Howe hat trick and Nick Bonino got a regular hat trick. Sidney Crosby continues to play in cloaked mode.

I tried to watch AU vs Mizzou on line but, thankfully, it would never load. Panthers and Deacons also lost yesterday. Rough day for my schools :(

I will not be taking the 4 train to Barclays Center tomorrow night or Saturday, though the thought had crossed my mind. A UNC loss today to the team that stomped them a few weeks ago would render it moot.

More fake news...SAD
the article linked above states
What is believed to be the first map to credit Henry Hudson with navigating his eponymous river — 130 years after the fact — will be on display... it took until about 1740, long after the Dutch surrendered New Amsterdam to the English in 1664, for a British cartographer to honor the explorer

The map world, including the dealer who owns the above map, are all well aware of this 1625 British map, naming Hudson's River forty years before Britain possessed Manhattan.

11:04 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Did you email the author, THT? You should.

11:20 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I know the map dealer, so I emailed him. Even the non-political stories in the NY Times can't be trusted. The only reason I found the article was the dealer emailed it to everyone.

11:30 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm just about ready for AU to get rid of men's basketball. What a waste of money. That money would be better spent on the Equestrian and Soil Judging teams.

12:01 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Let us know how the map dealer responds. Sounds to me like he's trying to prop up the price of a map. Get some unknowing schmuck to think it's something it's not.

12:14 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

You could almost say the same for the football team. Also, are we that good at soil judging? I mean, Toomer's corner has revolving oaks these days.

12:15 PM
Blogger michael said...

You could almost say the same FOR YOUR FACE!

1:03 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

2:14 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

The 2015 soil judging championship was Auburn's sixth, with the five others coming in 1978, '79,'80, '86 and 2003. In the last half century, only the University of Wisconsin–Platteville has more first-place finishes, with 10. Auburn also has won five Southeastern regional championships since 2000.

So, yes, we're that good. That doesn't mean the soil is good, just the judging of it. In the case of Toomer's corner, I'm pretty sure they've judged it to be awful.

2:19 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

maybe we should just compete in NAIA. We could certainly boast the biggest stadium in the NAIA. We would dominate in football and might even be competitive in basketball... or not.

2:22 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

You think it's hard to get a ticket to the soil judging competition?

2:25 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

in 40 years, AU ticket office has not ever sent me tickets, so yes, I'd say they are hard to get.

3:15 PM
Blogger michael said...

Did they send you tickets 41 years ago?

4:42 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Objection... relevance. bubbs's question was strictly present tense, so my response was above and beyond to emphasize the difficulty of obtaining said tickets at the present time. The fact that soil judging tickets were more plentiful 41 years ago than complaints about AU basketball are now is irrelevant.

I'd bet you a 1996 4Runner since I know you need some wheels, but it doesn't belong to me. So, I'll bet this bottle of stale room air I just trapped in my Contigo that I'm right (and no, you don't get to keep the Contigo, just the air).

12:36 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Not to mention I've already scheduled the 4runner to be towed at a pre-determined time. It's not going to be available for you, MJT.

That Contigo air is something, alright. You may need to put something in addition to your house up for the bet.

bubbs is right. But don't even think about adding small children to the wager.

Come to think about it, I can balance the wager. I'll add two "children" to my my side of the wager.

Oh, and I'm now wagering that the Penguins roster will be nothing but call ups from the Atlantic Youth Hockey League.

well rats, michael. I had 36BEASLEY!!! at the end of my last post but erased it for this one and now it's gone to waste completely.

So instead, you'll get a few bags of grandpuppies dog poops thrown in with my wager instead of an invaluable 36BEASLEY!!!

4:39 PM

I ate my first PBJ sometime in the past 10 years. I love 'em, but I don't eat 'em anymore cause that would be impolite. About 3 years ago, 2.0 suddenly developed a severe peanut allergy.

Blogger bubbs said...

I choose the ladder ... to PBJ greatness!

I'm egalitarian with my PBJ. Smooth or crunchy is fine. Grape, strawberry, apple ... They're all good. Really, most jellies are fine by me. I like variety.

But that mixed PBJ in a jar. No. Not happening.

8:05 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I love crunchy peanuts. I love smooth peanut butter. I will not eat the two mixed together. It violates the laws of nature and I am a law-abiding citizen.

Trying, so far unsuccessfully, to track down the name of a person (for which I only have a nickname of QV) who lived in Glenwood, AL, in the early/mid 20th century, one Google hit made me laugh. I'm guessing MapQuest really isn't familiar with Glenwood... traffic?! flights?! hotels?!

Get directions, maps, and traffic for Glenwood, AL. Check flight prices and hotel availability for your visit.

10:06 AM
Blogger michael said...

Crunchy peanut butter is gross.

Blackberry makes the best PBJ. Raspberry is the second best. But those jellies are for rich people.

10:17 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

According to americantowns.com "Thousands of people die in Glenwood each year" (Is this web site run by Donald Trump)

Given Glenwood's population of less than 200, I'm curious why so many people go there to die. Maybe the artesian well water has gone bad.

10:19 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Glenwood has changed a lot, THT.

You're ignorant and you've proven it, MJT. In reference to the crunchy peanut butter, that is. Your jelly preferences are well within the bounds of sane.

10:21 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Blackberry? So their cell phone business dries up and the convert their factories to jelly making?

I don't eat blackberries or raspberries; aren't they a little fuzzy or prickly on the outside? And before you ask, I don't eat the peach skin either. I will eat apple without peeling it; it's smooth. I love strawberries; so I'm a hypocrite. Go ahead and sue me! I've got Judge Napolitano on retainer (he came real cheap this week)

10:23 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'm not sure Judge Napolitano is licensed in Eurasia. That could be a real misstep. What's the penalty for inconsistent fruit preferences? Hanging? Chinese handcuffs? Onion consumption?

I'm concerned on your behalf.

10:34 AM
Blogger michael said...

Peach skin is weird. I've eaten the skin before, but usually I eat around it. I prefer a good nectarine.

Blackberries and raspberries can have tiny little fuzz like things, but you don't really feel them while eating them, so they eat good. The jelly is not fuzzy at all.

10:36 AM
Blogger michael said...

If someone in Eurasia is accused of inconsistent fruit preferences, we skip the trial and send them straight to Glenwood.

He was born in this house during WWi

He grew up (mostly) in this house, right down the street. A ginormous live oak, one of the biggest I've ever seen was where that garage/carport thing is now, or just behind it. A very large magnolia that I would climb was where the patio now is between the rear addition and the shallow end of the pool. The large fire ant hill I stood on to get a better view over the fence was about 40' behind where the pool is... no, that did not end well. I haven't stood on one since. The front room on the right is where I would sleep.

Cozy looking places. Why did the original THT leave Glenwood?

1:46 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I bet he started eating blackberries so they let him leave.

michael - college. Although he went to school in this building on College Street in Glenwood, there was no college in Glenwood. He went to Troy for a year and then to API.

bubbs - I don't know if he ate blackberries, probably so. I do know that, while he was a toddler, he ate a lot of wallpaper paste in that brick house.

Well, at least I never tried to sell tickets for the JFiii Express or TQ Express.

The sweep of the Gators by AU baseball last weekend was impressive. Let's hope the softball team can do the same this weekend in Gainesville. Equestrian heads into SEC championship in Auburn this weekend as the nation's #1 ranked team. I wish I had more interest in keeping up with the sports we're actually pretty good at. I just hope there are 5 trips to JHS in my future this Fall and not 2... or 1.

Spring has sprung. It's only supposed to get down to -18 degrees in Fairbamks tonight .

I survived another trip to the dentist today.

I want to be in Fairbanks. Or Fairbamks. Wherever that is.

Fairbamks is in New Jersey, bubbs.

We talking coast or in state?

1:07 PM

It is nestled in a number of bamks.

mmmm. Okay, I can live with Fairbanks or Fairbamks, though, I prefer the former.

Back of my eyelids watched good last night.

9:46 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

I had Arizona, WVU, and Michigan all advancing last night in a pool I'm in with a few of my buddies. All teams had leads inside the final couple of minutes of the game and lost. Went from having a comfortable lead and being minutes away from just about clinching the thing and now if Kentucky loses to UCLA tonight I'm pretty much done.

So no, MJT, the bball games did NOT watch good last night.

10:18 AM
Blogger michael said...

I hadn't checked my brackets in awhile and didn't remember who I had picked, so that made the viewing more enjoyable.

Turns out I did pretty well though. I had Oregon moving on in all my brackets... which is funny because I was rooting for Michigan during the game.

11:42 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I have no clue where my brackets stand. I suspect they're in horrible shape. But I don't have anything riding on them, so it's cool.

I would check to see and let you guys know. But I forgot where they are and how to get to them. I'm counting on someone else in those pools to let me know at some point.

If you can't tell, I take March Madness very seriously. It's my world.

11:52 AM
Blogger THT said...

I have no brackets. But I do have some kind of upper respiratory infection that finally game me some symptoms today other than the unexplained udder exhaustion I had been tortured with for 2 days. Now I have udder exhaustion and a runny nose.

Mooo

I think they make a cream for that.

did you see perfectly blue Blue Footed Boobys in space?

11:57 AM

I don't think he's actually been to space, THT. I think maybe bubbs was doing drugs.

12:32 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Where'd you go hiking, bubbs?

1:07 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

MJT/THT, it's a fact that I was high. What does that mean? ... there's really no way to know.

E-Bro, it was with the fam. Girls road their bikes (only one "major" wreck) while me and the Mrs. walked it. Red Mountain Park in Bham. Nothing special, but it was good to get out and get some fresh air.

1:12 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I can't say if there are BFBs in space or not. There's no color up there. Surprised you didn't know that, THT. I thought you would have been around to watch the walk on the moon. It's all black and white up there.

1:16 PM

I was at boy scout camp watching on a tiny portable tv. I thought it was just the tv.

Hey Cincy! I'm so confident (or faking myself into being confident) that I just turned down an opportunity to talk about maps on day of Ole Miss game in AU. I wonder how much longer before AU Ticket Office lets us order our National Championship game tickets.

I have a list of about 6 places I'm supposed to go today, one of which is Costco. I'd be willing to trade my assignment for a case of dengue fever, should someone have one available.

12:19 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Well, for that, I think you'd have to add the Airport and some Tropical locale to your list of places to go, so I'm not sure it's worth it, THT.

1:11 PM
Blogger michael said...

Costco is a glorious place when they have the samples out

1:42 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Costco sample eating has, like, its own culture: http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-costco-free-samples-etiquette-20150924-htmlstory.html

You're very in the box thinking, E-Bro. I keep quite a few communicable diseases in my office fridge. THT doesn't have to travel far to contract dengue fever. I really think Ebola is the way to go, though. It has a nice oozy effect. He'll keep not going anywhere for weeks on Ebola.

2:09 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

He'd get there faster in a plane and Alabama is basically the tropics. Apparently there's room for two in this box.

3:45 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Who said it couldn't be flown to him? Or that I don't have connections in NC that could help out?

Don't try to put me in your box!

4:19 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Well, you haven't said yet that it could be flown to him or that you do have connections in NC, so I don't really know what to believe.

And it's all a moot point anyway by now, I'm sure. THT is probably already home resting comfortably when he could've had Dengue Fever. We have failed him miserably.

4:54 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Yep, I'm back and it was only 110% as bad as I anticipated. But at least I saved the dengue fever play for later.

I have never partaken of any Costco sample eating. Afraid I'd get something worse than dengue fever.

Penguins are limping to the finish line and a first round playoff exit with a makeshift roster that probably couldn't win the Frozen Four, much less a Stanley Cup. The injured list looks like a NHL All-star game roster. I guess I should start turning my attention towards Sept 2.

9:21 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Softball is still looking good. Plus the baseball team has been exceeding expectations. Not really sports I'm naturally interested in, but with them doing well I don't mind giving them a look.

9:32 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

BOOM!!! goes the baseball team on ua-t.

I love it when the good guys stomp the bad guys.

11:23 AM

Well those of us who are hardcore baseball/softball fans don't need your fairweather attention, bubbs. Go find another bandwagon.

11:53 AM
Blogger michael said...

Also, nice page flip THT.

11:54 AM

I learned the art of page flipping from Art. More specifically, Art taught me how not to page flip.

That reminds me, THT, that Denver is into the Frozen Four a second year in a row.

And the skiing team finished third in the country (albeit they couldn't defend their national championship from last season).

(pulls out University of Denver t-shirts and sweatshirts for the first time in years)

Go Pioneers!

Your post from the previous page that is, THT, not the one about learning page flips from some guy named Art.
