«Oldest ‹Older 4801 – 4999 of 4999
bubbs, no need to be too concerned. I'm sure JayG will give us a new thread. Even if he doesn't, there is room for 4,999 more posts on this thread.
Our last page of this significant post. Kind of makes me a little emotional.
Ebro, the cliff notes version of the convos you missed: Auburn is gonna win the natty. Bet your house on it.
Also, you and me and cincy and kathy are going to meet for lunch at some point.
All of that is good to know.
I'm guessing you were referring to this entire substance and decent content-filled thread, and not just milehac's 11:27 post.
Saw a giant leopard moth last night. It was so cool looking. They apparently are all over the place but I'd never encountered one before. I regret that I didn't have an ether jar to enable me to put it next to the luna moth in my bug collection from AU entomology course. The luna moth was one of my easier acquistions; it flew into the headlight of my car on S. Donahue near the Agronomy Farm. It was rendered unconscious but otherwise perfectly intact.
And really. Who chooses to read Cliff notes on a really good book? You should probably start at the first comment on this post and read everything again. Just to make sure to refresh your memory on context and what have you.
Guess who has two thumbs and is 2017 office corn hole champion?
I don't recall every playing any game at any Buy More. Sounds like I'm missing out on a lot of fun.
Congrats to that champion friend of yours, bubbs.
I'm now all out of ys
bubbs, so many people have two thumbs that I question why you would include that in the description of your office's champ.
There's probably also a bunch of different 2017 office corn hole champions.
Be more specific, bubbs.
My uncle was born with 3 thumbs. But they removed one soon after birth, so depending on bubbs' views of trans-thumbism and the appropriate related terminologies, it is possible that my uncle is the 2017 office corn hole champion bubbs is talking about.
I think an extra thumb could come in handy sometimes. Seems like it would work better if it was attached.
If your born a tri-thumb, your always a tri-thumb. Anyone who disagrees with that is a fool.
So your uncle is clearly not the winner of which I speak. Also, he has a poor reputation as a corn hole player. And you can tell him I said that.
In specific I'm talking about MY office corn hole championship. And the person who has two thumbs and won has the name of "bubbs."
There's another "bubbs" in your office? How strange!
I hear that guy has two thumbs, so the story checks out.
The other bubbs is ambidextrous. So his thumbs don't count.
Part of the revisionist history of Vince Lombardi that I learned last night (pretty much the whole thing was revisionist), is that he had four thumbs but no great toes.
I bet he could open a pickle jar like nobody's business.
I'm not sure about opening pickle jars, bubbs, but during high school he worked at the local pickle factory and he could seal twice as many pickle jars per day as anybody else. Vince "The Closer" Lombardi is what they called him.
I hereby challenge the readers of this blog to an Auburn corn hole championship. You name the weekend. Just has to be one that THT is here. I'll have prizes and everything.
I propose October the Seven.
Which year, THT?
Any year they have a football game scheduled on October the Seven .
Guess what year has two thumbs and a game on October the Seven?
I think you messed that up, MJT. Clocks have hands, but calendars don't. So I don't think any year has two thumbs.
Google disagrees with you, bubbs:
Two Thumbs Up for 2014
Unfortunately, October the Seven was on a Tuesday that year.
Fine, bubbs. So maybe I messed up. You don't have to be such a jerk store call recipient about it.
maybe year was a typo. Maybe mjt meant a pear with two thumbs. A pear's pair. Pear, game... I think mjt was hinting that he's going to bring this to the big event on October the Seven.
I've got work to do and can't wait all day on y'all..

So does that mean you are boycotting post 4928?
Man, that's real nice of you to bring that food to the CHT. I bet Cincy will be pretty pumped about it.
Is the other "bubbs" going to be at this CHT because I hear he's pretty good?
No, I told you he was ambidextrous. He throws like a gold fish. He's turrible.
Wait, I thought that was the other bubbs.
So the bubbs with two thumbs is terrible? How terrible is the rest of the office if he is the champ?
I just have a lot of confidence in my ability to forget 4928
I had no idea Jim Taylor was still living. My apologies, Mr. Taylor.
The Jim Taylor with two thumbs?
Also, you non-corn hole champions need to shut your pie hole. I've got a trophy over here that says I'm a champion.
yep that Jim Taylor, but he may be missing part of his tongue. That's also the Jim Taylor with more trophies than you.
interesting stat here comparing the great Jim Brown to his contemporary, Jim Taylor:
vs. NFL East teams
Jim Brown: 109.6 (70 games)
Jim Taylor: 102.0 (12 games)
“vs. NFL West teams
Jim Brown: 74.2 (11 games)
Jim Taylor: 81.7 (68 games)
So, the NFL East is what made Jim Brown look so good and allowed him to end up 20 rushing yds/game ahead of Taylor during the 1960-65 seasons.
Yummy surprise in my lunchbox today. Late last night, 2.0 made a batch of these
https://www.dukesmayo.com/recipe/dukes-chocolate-cupcakes/
I will gladly sign a Eurasian court-approved affidavit attesting to their yumminess.
Ambidextrous bubbs with two thumbs and a trophy wins some cornhole tournaments, but the competition is NFL East-esque for sure.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I don't miss the forearms to the head, but I do miss the old style players and the grass and dirt fields without fancy drainage systems, and the absence of end zone dances and spiking the ball. I.e., I much prefer simpler times. That, and mud.
Ara Parseghian is also still with us, though not feeling so chipper lately.
Guess what, THT. We've more activity over here than on Fight Club these days.
everybody go on a Fight Club vacation?
earliest(?) U.S. time zones, created by the railroads.
Charleston, SC is on the border of Eastern and Central time zones.
Hilton HEad, SC and all of Georgia are Central.
It looks like Penguins would be playing their games in Eastern time zone while Steelers and Pirates would take the field in Central time.
So why did they move the zones?
AUFC is the NFL East of HABOTN leftovers.
Full circle. 1.0 is where the party is at!
As michael and I can attest, the party never left here!
I'm seriously missing some muddy football.
bubbs, looks like the time zone shifted partly west, bisecting Georgia from N to S, in 1918
http://papershake.blogspot.com/2011/09/us-time-zones-in-1918.html
"pursuant to the daylight savings act, which in addition to authorizing advance of the clock during the summer, provided for permanent United States standard time, and required the commission to define the limits of the standard time zones, which previously had been fixed only by custom of cross-continent railroad or by local law."
under the law, the principal standard for deciding on a time zone change is the "convenience of commerce." Proposed time zone changes have been both approved and rejected based on this criterion, although most such proposals have been accepted.
For very readable accounts of the history of standard time in the U.S., see:
Michael O'Malley: Keeping Watch, A History of American Time (Viking, 1990).
William H. Earle: "November 18, 1883: The Day That Noon Showed Up on Time", Smithsonian magazine, November 1983, pp. 193-208.
Ian R. Bartky and Elizabeth Harrison: "Standard and Daylight-saving Time", Scientific American, May 1979 (Vol. 240, No. 5), pp. 46-53.
Carlene E. Stephens: Inventing Standard Time (National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., 1983)
1918?!?!?
And that danged daylight savings time! That's it. That's when America started going to hell in a hand basket! Damn your eyes, Woodrow Wilson!
Daylight savings was by far the greatest tragedy in the United States in 1918. A distant second is probably the 675,000 people that died of the flu in America that year.
I think it's safe to say that WWI would be third on the list.
I'll also posit that if it weren't for daylight savings, those people wouldn't have caught the flu. I mean, that seems pretty obvious.
There's really no way to disprove your positing, bubbs. That must mean you are right.
Oh look, it's Puppet Hour. How do you like that?
I like it better than a cat on my back.
without daylight savings, they may have shown up for the war at the wrong time. Imagine the alternate history options there. Go ahead, bubbs, posit for us.
You've got that backwards, THT. We often showed up at the WRONG time in 1918 WWI. There could have been a lot of lives spared had it not been for daylight savings.
Actually, it's a little known fact that daylight savings time set everything in motion for WWII. Woody was shy on sleep because of the time change when they were negotiating the close of WWI, and Germany founded its republic.
"Fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again."
I wonder if michael would have put a stop to this if he had been King of Eurasia over 1000 years ago
y'all drop by the Buy More tomorrow. We'll be having a big sale from 7:30 am. to midnight or beyond. Buy anything at full price and we'll knock a penny off the price of anything else you purchase.
I'm fine with chess. The only thing I would have changed would be that the king can kill all the other pieces on the board at any time.
You mean your pieces, right? I mean ... Let me think about how to phrase this.
Do you believe that some other people are under the impression that Eurasia has not conquered the world? Like, are there still people who think their countries still have sovereignty? And because of that, would imply you couldn't just knock over the opponents pieces at will.
Asking for a friend. I'll hang up and listen.
THT posited that he wondered if I would have allowed the proliferation of chess if I had been alive 1000 years ago. I responded that I would have allowed it with a rule range to reflect a more Eurasian view on things.
And I am not insane, bubbs. I don't think Eurasia is the entire world. I'm not sure what the citizens think. We've kind of mixed things around in the history books from time to time to keep things fresh. I think most Eurasians in their 20s think the earth is a tetrahedron with a core made out of soap.
most Eurasians in their 20s think the earth is a tetrahedron with a core made out of soap.
That would make for some awesomely bubbly volcanic eruptions.
I'm trying to figure out where, exactly, does the rope come out? The obvious choice would be one of the vertices. However, I think a rope exit from the center of one of the four faces would be more interesting. And do those youthful Eurasians try to climb the soap's rope into the heavens? Or to the shower head if that's where it is hanging.
I forgot I had ventured here and I accidentally CTR+V
most Eurasians in their 20s think the earth is a tetrahedron with a core made out of soap.
onto a Buy More customer's receipt. That would be incredibly funny if I could leave it there. But alas, I cannot.
well, lest you think my Alzheimer's is that bad, I didn't actually forget that I had been here, I just forgot what the last thing was I had copied onto the "clipboard" and thought it was something work related.
4BEASLEY!!!2, just so micheal doesn't get too upset with my inattention to detail.
4BEASLEY!!!3
A second-round pick by Buffalo in the 2014 draft, Kouandjio started seven games in three seasons (that would be 7/48) for the Bills before being released on May 24.
That gave me a chuckle. Buffalo didn't want him, either! They should have consulted HABOTN before they went and drafted him.
It's Daylight Saving Time, MJT, not "Savings".
To be fair, I only know that from watching Veep last season.
4BEASLEY!!!5
Of course daylight is savings time. All the banks are closed at night.
There's really no way to know whether or not it is "savings" or "saving."
And THT, you definitely should slip some of the knowledge you have gained on Eurasians to your customers. They should be educated on what it's like over here.
4BEASLEY!!!!6
maybe I'll start a Eurasian study-abroad business for that, michael.
For $10K USD per student, I'll arrange a flight to Eurasia on one of your ostriches. Once there, the students can study the stars at night from their luxury accommodations on a moss-covered hillside.
4BEASLEY!!!7
4BEBAESLSELY!!!EY!!!!!
I was wondering how best to handle that. You did so with superb skill, and not-so-superb spelling. Well done, meilcha
4BEASLEY!!!9
I feel like that customer was short changed by you not leaving that ctl+v in.
To be short changed, the customer would first have to pay.
Come on, man. They came in with nothin', and gave you most of it.
that reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj5DccgBYeM
this just stinks
Yeah. Monty starting out on the wrong foot.
This is the song I was thinking of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16e-93L5dCw
wrong foot. That's funny, but not for MA.
Youtube url means absolutely nothing at the Buy More Satellite store
This is great news for Penguins fans like me who refuse to pay exorbitant fee for NHL Center Ice
Humidity 38% is a real treat.
Yeah. Well. I wouldn't know anything about that.
I'm sure your 42% humidity must be downright unbearable.
I'd be willing to bet AS just made the Top 10 for shortest stays as White House Communications Director.
His official start date was Aug 15....
I'm not gonna take your bet, THT.
ironically, just hours after "Trump slams back at accusations of 'White House chaos'"
I don't watch reality TV shows, but I might watch this one.
I watch Japanese Reality TV on Netflix. It's called Terrace House and it's pretty dope. It's way better than whatever is going on at 1600 Pennsylvania, imho.
"might watch" was a bit too exuberant. If there's hockey, college football, Monk rerun, or an off button, that's what I'll end up choosing.
You're always being too exuberant, THT.
I think you can get a cream for that.
michael is undoubtedly the most intelligent poster in all of HABOTN
I need the Rx cream, that OTC stuff just isn't strong enough.
Would you like me to talk to ehyou? I think he's got some high level, black market anti-exuberant cream.
Thanks, bubbs, but that black market stuff is probably cut with Greek yogurt; I'm don't eat it and I sure ain't gonna rub it all over. I'll get a Rx for the real stuff from my veterinarian this afternoon.
I had a lentil curry burrito for lunch today and boy oh boy do these farts stink.
Did you get your cream yet?
I feel like you'll be in pieces if you don't curb the exuberance soon.
Who comes up with lentil curry burrito?
I do love lentil curry, though.
Some of us like to think outside the box, bubbs.
What? You work for taco bell now?
31 days til kickoff and
Happy Freddie Smith Day! There is no such thing as too much exuberance for #31, the best college LB I've ever seen play the game.
I'm holding firm on my 6-6 prediction. I also predict we'll have more than one qb as the starter.
I'm not in favor of having two QBs in the backfield. They'd take turns whiffing on the blitzing linebacker.
MrsTHT went to a conference in St. Louis. I'm in survival mode for another 34 hours.
Ara Parseghian died earlier today. He was retired from coaching for the past 43 years. He obviously had a better retirement account than most of us.
I think Charlie Weis got the same retirement package from ND.
I disagree. CW had to take another job just to put bread on the table. Of course, he had much higher bread expenses than did Ara.
Indeed, Weis has a vast bread basket.
bubbs - to answer your question earlier, vegans come up with that sort of burrito. it was on sale at publix and I had a couple of coupons and they have 19 grams of protein and one thing led to another and all of a sudden I had 4 of those burritos in my freezer.
"One thing led to another..."
The dangers of shopping with coupons.
MJT's brood of children suddenly makes more sense.
lolz ebro
Wait a second. Was that whole post really just a metaphor for how MJT got his family?
I guess it may have been a subconscious one that Ebro brought to light. I bet he feels like Freud behind that keyboard.
looks like I wasn't the only one intent on forgetting.
bubbs didn't want to make you a liar, THT.
You're welcome.
The HABOTN virtual bother/sisterhood is strong; thanks for looking out for me, bubbs.
Speaking of sisters, haven't seen Cincy in the past couple of days; she's obviously getting ready for the first Cincytiger's Condo Tailgate Welcome Party for the 2017 season.
We're also trying to cobble together a bham lunch in a few weeks. You're welcome to join us.
thanks, bubbs. That would be a fascinating experience. If I can get my teleporter back on line, I'll be there, even though I'm not a huge fan of cobbler.
A month ago I was doing almost 5 minutes of exercise/day. For the past two weeks, absolutely nothing. Looks like MrsTHT will be hauling my carcass up Medicine Bow Peak once again. Maybe she'll just leave it there this time. Only 61 days until the hike. bubbs & E-Bro, do y'all have your plane tickets? MrsTHT would appreciate the help.
I love cobbler. For my birthday the last few years, I have requested some sort of cobbler or fruit pie instead of cake. I never regret it.
THT, I think you should get crazy and do 10 minutes of exercise per day. You'll be able to lift Medicine Bow Peak and carry it right on your back after 60 days or so.
michael, that would be very crazy indeed. Maybe I should attach a Go-Pro camera to MrsTHT and wait in the hotel room until she gets back.
I think I've only been to Laramie 5 times, always in July or August. I'm curious what it will be like with all the students on campus. I'm sure it won't have Atlanta type traffic, but I wonder how much its summer sleepy-town peaceful charm will be affected.
You've got the weather going for you. Let's just focus on that.
About the plane ticket, THT, I was wondering if I could you use your teleporter instead? If it comes back on line, of course, that is.
I've been to Laramie in September. Seemed pretty sleepy to me, but I was coming from Denver, so everything is relative.
E-Bro, the teleporter has Concorde-esque ticket price.
bubbs, currently 59 with forecast high of 69 today in Laramie. That sounds awesome. As much as I love cold weather, I'll be hoping for nothing colder than avg temps (61/32) for Oct 2 since the temp on Medicine Bow Peak will be noticeably cooler. I don't want MrsTHT's fingers so cold and stiff that she can't haul me up there.
Update:
Current Oct 2 forecast: Hi 54 with "a little rain". We may move the hike to Wednesday, 56 in Laramie and partly sunny. That could make for a very chilly mountain.
https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/laramie-wy/82070/october-weather/336576
The 8 week forecast. Not bad, but I find the 10 week to be more accurate. You should see what they were reporting for Oct 2 back in mid-July.
Laramie has seen -2 in September, so I hope Al Gore is right this year.
Auburn ranked in top 15 of preseason coaches poll #13
Thank goodness we aren't in top 10. Although 6-6 is entirely within our reach, a top 10 rank would have given us a strong chance at 4-8.
No doubt about it. A top 10 ranking would have put the nail in Gus's coffin.
All this faith in J-Stid is totally rational. Right?
Predators will have a new captain this year; Carrie's hubby retires.
A church in Raleigh is offering dream interpretations and barbecue.
That makes obvious sense. Most of us dream about barbecue, right?
michael, J-Stid is obviously much better than Cam. After AU's decently mediocre 2009 season, the coaches had AU at #23 in the 2010 preseason poll.
GO PREDS!
Please tell me you're going to the Bibles, Books and Barbecue, THT.
JS will not be considered a success by year's end. Mark it, dude.
Hursey's bbq 32 minutes west, or unknown-and-likely-not-as-good bbq 45 minutes east. That's not a hard decision even if you take NC Jelly Donuts out of the equation.
Will Hursey interpret your dreams, though? For free?
A missed opportunity for sure.
So bubbs thinks Sean White is going to win the Heisman, huh?
I'm cool with that.
My dreams would confound the most astute interpreter. The Original THT is occasionally in them; I enjoy those dreams.
it poured rain for 20 minutes and now my car is dirty?
Crazy. It's been coming down in buckets for about 30 minutes now. Are we in the same place?
Hi Hotties! We were in Auburn this past weekend and I restocked the condo for the season. Toilet tissue (amazing how much of that stuff we go through in a season!), paper towels, orange and blue plates, COFFEE! Got to get back over there to do a deep clean and we will be ready. Making plans for the big first annual CincyTiger Auburn Cornhole Tournament October 7. Get your registration in early. :)
THT, trying to plan food for the first tailgate. Give me some ideas of what we should have. Anyone else have suggestions - remember, no onions or peppers.
I am super excited about this season. I think it is going to be a great one! THT, was reading that we were predicted to have lower than normal temps for August, maybe that will carry over into September.
I'll confess to eating some green pepper (and I think some red, too) not too long ago. I have no idea why I did it. I didn't taste much of anything. I will go to my grave loathing onions only slightly less than ua-t.
Accuweather currently shows low 90s the first week of September. Historically, that plays right into bubbs's 6-6 prediction, or at best something like last year. High temp above 86 on Sept 4 has a high probability of mediocre or poor season (2013 the lone exception in the past 40+ years). High temp of 86 or less essentially guarantees a great season. I'm open to theories as to why on earth there would be such a strong correlation. Could it be the Eurasians?
bubbs, perhaps so if you were in north Durham yesterday. Hopefully not today, for your sake. I am incarcerated. Looking forward to a parole hearing this afternoon.
Happy Felipe Alou day! 29 days til kickoff.
Hey, THT. How do those temp numbers correlate with kick off time? Opening game we kick at 6:30. Which should make things a little more bearable.
I bet kickoff is more like 6:34
bubbs, I have no idea.
Are y'all concerned that our posts here could be leaked to the Atlanta Journal? I'll blame the guy that knows everything Thomas Jefferson ever spoke and did not speak.
MrsTHT and I just visited with "Duke" for the first time since his cardiac arrest and subsequent CABG. He specifically wanted me to thank all the Hotties for their prayers.
Is this what we'll be using on Oct 7?
Um, no. Ours are much more special - they have an AU on them!
Seriously, do people really pay this kind of money for cornhole games?!
I sure hope not!
Here's my thinking. We could seriously make a replica of those cornhole sets for a couple hundred bucks max. We should get into the business and sell them for half the price. We'd make 10s and 10s of dollars!
help yourself, bubbs. I can't hammer a nail straight, and I'd probably saw off more fingers than board. However, I will gladly receive 1% of your profits as a finders fee.
I'm pretty confident that JaytheHero is totally awesome.
I've been thinking about starting a business where I staple rare maps to cornhole sets and sell them for bunches of money. That way I'd make 100s and 100s of dollars!
Glad to hear you got to visit Duke, THT. I guess that means his condition continues to improve?
Duke's doing very well, but has a prolonged recovery period in front of him. They had to use both internal mammary arteries as coronary artery bypass grafts. Since those vessels provide significant food to the sternum, using both places the sternum at higher risk of poor healing and infection. At least that's what I read on the internet. We don't sell CABG kits at the Buy More.
michael, the deep pocket corn hole collectors won't buy it if you staple the rare map to the cornhole set. Use a reversible archival adhesive. That way, they can change out the rare map every few months without damaging it.
Did any of y'all attend the scrimmage this morning? If the coverage of the scrimmage by the NY Times is to be trusted, Grit Laser is now the frontrunner for the Heisman and Mr. Transfer won't see the field.
How long will this QB competition charade go on? Grit Laser's prior service earns about a week of pseudo-competition in my opinion. I'll be annoyed with Gus if it goes much beyond that.
I like the way NYT thinks.
Next scrimmage is on Saturday.
I fully expect Grit to be named the starter sometimes between Saturday after scrimmage and next Monday's presser.
I have no idea why Gus even has a post-scrimmage press conference. He is a master at speaking without saying anything at all.
I learned from an article I just read that they ran a lot of plays in the scrimmage.
LEAK!!! That's classified information. Now all our opponents know. I think I'll call AU security and ask why they haven't found the leakers.
This hurts:
double pained windows and air conditioning complete this finely decorated apartment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSPNQ82Sq4E
THT, since you are probably in prison you'll have to imagine MR T saying "pain" here
I'm at Buy More Central today, the only one of my work locations that allows youtube. I guess they believe all those youtube video tutorials on how to stock shelves are useful to us shelf-stockers.
Stidham threw a pick 6 in the scrimmage. USA Today has picked us to go 8-4 again. Things are starting to sound more normal.
That may not be such a bad thing. Even Bart Starr, the greatest NFL QB in history, might be inclined to throw a pick 6 against our four consensus all-american DBs. We are loaded with all-american DBs, right? Besides, Stidham's job is to throw it to the guy wearing the Auburn jersey. Mission accomplished.
New thread created to carry you over once you hit the 5,000 mark.
ENJOY, amigos.
Thanks, JayG!
JayG is as awesome as....
49BEASLEY!!!
At least you got that last one in!
For the stragglers on this old thread, here is your linky to the new thread.
New thread up!
We need to finish this one out.
Or at least leave it on an even number.
Or we could leave it on an odd number.
only if is post 123
Just popping in to say hello before this blog comes to a. Lose. JGT is awesome to build us another. Happy Birthday to Mr. Cincy. Auburn will be undefeated. That's all I have for now.
That should have said 'a close'. Lose sounds bad. We will not lose, only win. I hate typos.
Move to Hville, bubbs. The work commute wouldn't be THAT bad. Heck, it's downright scenic down through 231 and 79.
let's even this thing up.
I SAID, LET'S EVEN THIS THING UP!... again.
Wow, it's stayed even for a long time. I wonder if we can sneak this thing back up to 5,000 posts while no one is looking.
I'll start with another 4,993rd post.
Of course, i can't leave it on an odd number, so let's have another 4,994th post at no extra charge.
Can't believe it's stayed at 4994 this long. I thought it would have lost another fifty-eleven posts by now.
Let's get this thing back to 5000 and call it a minute.
We're almost there. Keep up the good work!
We're on autopilot!
Aw, man! My keyboard just ran ou
