Yes, it's that time again

THT has alerted me to the fact you all are approaching 5,000 posts, which means it's time for a new thread. It would be my pleasure to create said new thread. Before I leave, however, I'd like to provide you a picture of the always-lovely Mariska Hargitay.
Have a nice day.

Anyone ever been to Sweet Tomatoes before?

I was looking on their website, because I always lament that we don't have one. Wanted to see if anything had opened up close by. That's when I noticed that the one that used to be in Raleigh is gone.

I don't pin THT as a former fan, but what about Mrs. THT?

1:17 PM
Blogger michael said...

bubbs, thank you for your interest, but I have never been to Sweet Tomatoes.

4:40 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

We got THT past the flip, but we did not come up with much quality content.

4:43 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Great page flip but, aside from that, bubbs is spot on with his assessment. We've had better quality content than a tomato discussion. At least y'all didn't get vulgar and talk about onions. I've only eaten BLTs with the T for a couple of years. It may be another decade before I venture into a tomato-named restaurant. It does sound like a place MrsTHT would sneak off to when I'm not keeping an eye on her.

I had delicious fried NC shrimp tonight, but not at a coat factory.

Tomorrow I expect to learn that the Lost Colony has been unequivocally found. I'm pretty sure the organizers of this conference didn't invite anyone to speak who wasn't going to stick with the party line.

8:09 PM
Blogger michael said...

It'll never be found. Too much money invested in it being lost. Always follow the money, THT.

I got a beautiful mortgage-lifter tomato from my garden sitting on my desk right now. The tomatoes bounced back pretty good after dealing with some fungus on my plants earlier in the summer. Still got tomatoes on the vines, though they probably won't ripen outside unless it warms up for a few days in the near future.

8:33 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'd wager we wont get warm enough again for them to ripen on the vine. Think you'll have to window sill those puppies, MJT.

9:24 AM
Blogger michael said...

You're probably right, but we had a real warm November and even December last year if you'll recall. Picked a bunch of ripe ones (about 40, though 30 of them were little jelly bean tomatoes) earlier this week when they had the frost warning. Imma leave the green ones out there a little bit longer to see what happens. If we have a true freeze, then I'll go ahead and get them. Or if the bermuda grass gives up for the year, then I imagine I'll give up too.

"No. 16 Auburn (6-2, 4-1 SEC) is a 13-point favorite at Texas A&M (5-3, 3-2 SEC) on Saturday"

wow. If I gambled and if I wasn't emotionally and ethically forbidden from betting against AU, I'd plunk down a lot of cash on an angry aTm to cover. I can't imagine they'll get blown out at home on consecutive weekends. As usual, Mullen didn't do us any favor.

How do you feel about candy corn, THT?

Well as long as you don't actively hate on them, I think we're okay.

KP just getting in the groove and breaks his scapula. Poor fellow.

I hope Carlson doesn't leave any KOs on the field this weekend. Kirk could take every one of them the distance against our weak kick coverage.

Flavored with pumpkin and black licorice? Not sure those would blend all that well.

12:48 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'm talking about some ice cream that has Halloween candy incorporated. You'd have to be selective on the candy, but I think it's a solid idea.

Also, I looked and can't find anyone making such a thing. Missed opportunity. Sad!

bubbs, you should take out a loan and start a halloween ice cream company. you'll be rich!!!

Reese's. I know we have them in DQ Blizzards, etc., but is there a base ice cream flavor or anything?

Reese's are already best when cold/frozen to begin with, so the ball is basically on the goal line for you.

1:06 PM
Blogger michael said...

Make the candy in the shape of something most everyone likes (like M&Ms or Reeses cups) but have them actually be made entirely of candy corn.

1:07 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I think you have to go vanilla as the base.

I was thinking candy corn, peanuts and white chocolate covered pretzel pieces.

1:07 PM
Blogger michael said...

do a circus peanut swirl flavor too

Poor ol' Vegas Golden Knights. Goalies getting injured almost daily. They had their 4th & 5th string goalies suited up last night, i.e. two goalies who never even got a sniff of the NHL regular season until this week. One is some 19 year old called up from a junior hockey league (i.e. no one over age 20 allowed).

3:10 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I like how hockey and baseball have the feeder leagues. It's always nice to pull for some kid getting a shot like that. Or even an old timer getting a last shot.

I hope we punt it out of bounds every time. I hope we never kick off into the wind. You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger and you don't mess around with Christian Kirk.

"Auburn ranks last in the SEC and 115th nationally in punt return defense (13.38 yards) and 129th in kick return defense (29.88). Containing Kirk may come down to avoiding him more than anything."

I ain't worried about Carlson kickoffs. Why don't you believe in Carlson, Ebro? It's doubts like yours that are the reason he never wins the Groza award.

10:42 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

That ain't it, michael. Carlson is too good to win the Groza. You've got to be pretty bad to win a trophy named in honor of a toe that made only 54% of his FGA and never made one longer than 53 yards. Plus, he missed 3% of his PATs. Maybe if Carlson would miss a PAT once in a while he'd get a closer look from the Groza Groupies.

Blogger bubbs said...

You don't?

10:17 AM
Blogger michael said...

got one that is enamel covered. the enamel is all scratched up and doesn't work as a nonstick surface anymore, so I just want an old school cast iron dutch oven sans enamel.

Got my eye on a 9qt Lodge dutch oven. Waiting for it to go on sale on Amazon (or I may buy it from THT depending on his response). I've had a Lodge cast iron skillet for years that cooks good.

10:23 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Got a cast iron dutch oven. I think it's the exact one you're talking about, actually.

Have a couple cast iron skillets. One newer one and one hand me down. The old one is far superior. Slick surface. I find that the newer cast iron always has the rough texture, and it doesn't work as well as a non-stick. The old one cooks up eggs, pancakes, corn bread etc. like a champ.

If you can find an old one somewhere, I'd recommend going that route. They can be in pretty rough shape and still be restored to good working condition.

10:31 AM
Blogger michael said...

Yeah, I know what you mean. My grandmother's cast iron pots are her mother's, and they are far superior as far as nonstsick. She never has to reseason either, which is something i've had to do from time to time.

The people on the internet say you can sand your new cast iron skillet to get that smooth surface, but I've yet to try it.

Auburn will win the AU - GA game. Mr. Cincy heard that straight from the Nun today at Auburn UMC. (I was driving back from NC, where, btw, I caught all kinds of h--l for having my phone in my lap keeping up with the score of the AU-TAM game while the mommy to be was opening presents - for two hours! I played all the games and made the crafts and oohed and ahhed appropriately, but my sister was unhappy that I kept my phone in my lap. I can't win sometimes)

Hope we all have a good week.

bubbs, the Buy More has discontinued their cast iron cookware line. The pots were rusting on the shelves. Probably had to do with poorly smelted iron from China. The new pots are cast hickory. Our customers love the flavor so much they keep returning to
"Buy More" after every meal.

10:36 AM
Blogger michael said...

Modern cast hickory pots just aren't as good as the classics, though.

10:49 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I tend to agree with MJT. The finish isn't the same. Does the Buy More have any antique hickory cookware?

11:04 AM
Blogger michael said...

Hey bubbs I dropped by Lowe's to check out the grinder drill attachments and they had what I need according to the cast iron grinding dude on youtube, but it was $9. Same thing was like $6.50 at Home Depot so I think I'll drop by there some time this week and get it.

Not sure it would work on cast hickory though.

11:07 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I watched another video where the guy was doing the same thing with that attachment. However, he also went over it, after using the grinding wheel, with like 40 grit sand paper (orbiting sander). I'd probably see how it looks without the sand paper finish, but you might end up needing something to "polish" it.

I'm leaning towards a hand plainer for the hickoryware.

11:24 AM
Blogger michael said...

But bubbs, I don't own an orbiting sander. I got an electric square sander thing, but I'm not sure that will do the job. Guess maybe I'll sand by hand to finish it off?

That's Sean White level grit by the way.

11:33 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Did anyone every tell y'all how awesome y'all are?

bubbs, looks like you're going to have to dismiss that sand paper. I think most of the antique hickory cookware is in museums. If someone tries to sell you some, it's probably fake. I mean, it may be hickory, but it ain't old. Run a dendrochronology or carbon-14 test before you commit to buy.

1:23 PM

Not sure how, but the when part I've got.. I've heard from other sources is that you should plan it for 1:58 a.m. on the day that Daylight Savings Time ends. My lack of faith is gonna hurt my wallet.

I've been watching stubhub for 3 additional La Monroe tickets for weeks. They've been hovering around $15 for weeks, but I figured I'd wait to see if the bottom would drop out after a potential loss to UGA. Now the price has doubled.

Still gonna wait this out til the last second. Gotta think some will be super cheap late in the week. Right???

12:32 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

You're missing out on a golden opportunity.

Just go without the 3 tickets. Use your kids after the kick off to get some freebies.

1:29 PM
Blogger michael said...

Oh believe me, I know that is the cheapest route.

Problem is that the kids will enjoy the pregame band, eagle flight, cheers, and player entrance more than the actual football game.

1:51 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Have a competition between now and then. Who can be the most obedient/helpful children. Top three get your initial 3 tickets to see all that stuff. (We're all family. They'll be fine for a bit on their own). The other waits outside with you and Sara until you can scrounge up another 3.

His formula for us getting there was pretty wild. Death, mayhem, bribes ... It had everything.

MJT, take a crash course from PF on how to get into an Auburn game without a ticket.

THT, I'm a complicated guy. Of course I knew we'd win. I was also pretty sure we'd lose. Are you not familiar with Hegelian dialectic? I'm trying to reach a greater truth here, man.

5:23 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

michael, I don't speak any Eurasian dialect.

Anybody out there got Mac OS? If so, I strongly encourage you to avoid the free High Sierra OS "upgrade." There is nothing high about it. I have a program that serves as a database for maps. I added a bit of data to it this morning. Around noon, I installed High Sierra. Immediately after, all data added to my program since about July 2016 is missing.

6:10 PM
Blogger michael said...

Wow THT, that sounds terrible. Did you retrieve your data eventually?

9:31 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

That does suck. I'm guessing the data is still in the program's database though. I'm curious, too. You get it back?

10:33 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I don't know. The restore process should be near the end of its 12-16 hour cycle, so I'll find out when I get home. There were some really bizarre behaviors with mail also. More than a half dozen completely empty new "draft" messages hiding behind mail when I minimized it. Also, I created an email and after I sent it to the recipient, an exact duplicate draft addressed to our gas company was hiding behind it.

Re: the database, the app on my phone still has all the data... as long as I don't accidentally tell it to retrieve the "updated" file from Dropbox. Unfortunately, the app doesn't have an export function. I've made screen shots of the data for the 10 most recent entries.

10:59 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Goodness. What in the world did they do in that release? That's crazy.

I'm not as familiar with iOS. Usually with android, that database can usually be found as a file somewhere on the phone. But I don't think Apple lets you get to as many things as android. You're in a pickle!

11:07 AM
Blogger michael said...

This is why you should write everything down and keep in in file cabinets.

11:36 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

You jest, but there are certain things at work that I require folks to keep a paper trail for. It's saved our bacon more than once.

11:37 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm hoping the system backup will have all the data. If not, I have an August 2017 database backup, lacking only the last 10 or so entries. Once we win the Iron Bowl, I won't care what data I have or do not have.

11:39 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I actually do have it all written down and in a file cabinet, except for one entry. It's just a lot easier to look at it on the computer. My drawers are full of flies... um, files.

11:42 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

That's kinda how I roll with the paper stuff I keep. It's there if I need it, but I work with the electronic information.

11:58 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

My office finally moved to electronic files over paper files last month, and boy, just go ahead and cue up that Nic Cage gif from Conair where he's stepping off the bus and takes in the fresh air. That's how good it feels.

Hope you guys aren't making the High Sierra OS upgrade!

Speaking of bacon... while we were driving down the road this past weekend, MrsTHT read a pickup truck bumper sticker out loud. I replied, "Killed by bacon?" to which she responded, "no, Fueled by bacon".

I'd be fine with either.

I'm ready to pop some bammer in the mouth. Why do we have to wait another 10 days. I hope the team is more focused on LAMO than I am.

8:08 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I'm a little concerned that we peaked against uga. Sure, we could be even better against bammer, but sometimes it's hard to get that good of a performance out of your team in back to back big games.

Let's all cross our fingers that Gus isn't installing the High Sierra offense for the bammer game.

8:38 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

bubbs, we haven't peaked yet. Barring injury/ies, we won't peak until Dec 2 or later. The Gus Bus went into a ditch in BTR, but it's locked in on the center stripe now and running on jet fuel.

8:45 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Whether we peaked or not, we've been playing at a good level since Mizzou bar 2.5 quarters against LSU.

Don't know if we'll play Bama as good as we did UGA, but I don't think we absolutely have to either if we just play like we've been playing most of the season.

9:14 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

ULM may tell a tale, though. They're not absolute mince meat for a Group of Five team and they had a week off after their last game, a nice win against Appy St.

The 11:00 kick coupled with possible UGA hangover could mean a sloppy game. Don't think a sloppy game precludes us from beating Bama, but taking care of business early would be encouraging.

9:18 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I would like to see us play sound ball against them. It would be encouraging, plus I'd rather us not have starters in there into the fourth quarter. I think Gus leaves them in too long already. History says if we have a comfortable lead, they'll get pulled sometime in the second half of the third.

9:32 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Just looked at the odds. AU -37.

I think I'd bet the under. We tend not to blow out these smaller schools.

9:33 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Woops. Sorry about that, THT. Wasn't paying attention, and I guess you were asleep in the Sierras.

9:35 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I was paying more attention to work, a fault I need to correct.

AU 45- LAMO 30

They've got potent offense and a porous defense. I fear we'll have a hangover on defense, but maybe Kevin Steele will earn his Broyles Trophy this weekend and prove me wrong.

9:47 AM
Blogger michael said...

Auburn probably loses to LAMO honestly.

IS THIS GAME OUT OF THE BAG?!?

10:43 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Hey, THT. You missed it. Yesterday on FightClub I got a bunch of people with an RC Truck video. Dropped it right in the basketball thread and linked an "article" indicating Bruce was gone. Even Cincy got mad at me. It was like old times. You should come by and visit sometime.
