Jokes on you. I'm about to buy all of them up and then sell them again for prices starting at $60 bucks a piece.
Yep, bubbs, you are on the list. You know about that list don't you? I never expected that out of you. :) Looking forward to a fun weekend and getting to meet michael. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain.
I'd hate to miss a rain game. Can we get snow for the Iron Bowl?
We can have snow if you come sit in our seats with our six grandchildren. :) But, I would rather have snow than rain! Prediction now says cloudy for Saturday with just a 20% chance of rain.
MJT Britta'd that page flip.
hahaha! I just now figured that out, michael. You are hilarious!
I'm on Cincy's Christmas list, guys! This is awesome!
You should go ahead and write your thank you note now, bubbs.
somebody's bound to have heard why Carlson was able to kick 54 yard FG with 10 yards to spare, but couldn't get KOs deep no matter which end of the field. What's the scoop? I don't buy Gus's swirling wind coachspeak nonsense.
He kicked one pretty deep into the endzone but they up and returned it anyway.
He should probably be benched.
I bet he pulled a muscle doing pilates.
There was an article where it was "explained." Two parts: swirling wind down there (spurious?). And the fact that they kept running them out of the end zone (because we are last in nation on kick coverage). They decided to just start kicking them high. Didn't realize it at the time, but the article pointed out that it worked. Of the 5 done that way, they averaged a start on the 25 or 26, with the longest starting on the 27. Much better than when they were running it out.
I'm a lot more comfortable when he kicks them out of the end zone. He did that a lot the first half of the season.
I'll freely admit that I don't completely buy the story. I do wonder if there isn't some injury (however minor) that's not letting him kick out of the back of the end zone.
I'm telling you, it was the pilates.
Always thought he should be doing ballet instead.
Time to rip the redshirt off little brother. Let's have a redshirt bonfire this weekend.
I'm still blaming the cooler weather.
It may be that dreaded global helium shortage.
Why aren't people more freaked out about the helium shortage. Seems pretty serious, if you ask me.
It's hard to take you seriously when you're inhaling a balloon and talking in that helium voice.
I bet you feel like a blimp behind that keyboard.
Three of four teams tonight having losing records...
Buffalo 4-6 at Ball State 2-8 on CBSS
Tulsa 2-8 at USF 8-1 on ESPN, live from Outback Bowl Stadium.
Next Thursday evening, thanks to it being Thanksgiving... is that being redundant?... we'll have the Egg Bowl.
Bad football is better than no football.
Unless there's a hockey game on or something.
It was bad, at least the 2nd half was.
Surprised you didn't watch the Penguins replay instead.
Or the UGA game.
I was busy chatting with Cincytiger at the campfire.
I said high to the embers earlier this morning, so that counts as attending.
I talked to MJT about his visit to the embers, so that counts as having been fashionably late.
I read about MJT's visit to the embers and subsequently bubbs' talking to MJT about his visit to the embers, so I was there in spirit, basically.
oh yeah, now I remember seeing y'all there.
I don't remember seeing them How did i miss them?
Cincy, they said they were there, so if I didn't see them, then I wasn't there, and I know I was there, so I must have seen them. That's how I see it anyway.
This time of year it's dark when I get home from work, and nearly dark when I leave in the morning, so I took the opportunity this sunny afternoon to sit under my favorite trees. God is great!
Wow, THT, these are beautiful!! God is indeed great!
sitting in the big house, awaiting a parole hearing this afternoon. What's up with y'all?
Buck Fama, that's what's up with me.
Good to see you posting this morning, THT. I was beginning to suspect you might be Charles Manson.
I'm guessing he has a better internet connection in his "house" than I have here. It would not surprise me in the least if the more permanent residents here have better internet. I blame ua-t.
I was a little more worried that THT might be Malcolm Young. I thought the background "oy...oy...oy..." in TNT sounded a little but like him.
I'm not the least bit worried that I have no idea who and what you are talking about and I believe that also reassures that I'm not him.
I think he was an electrician, THT.
Focused on High Voltage.
obviously not me. I wouldn't last 1 week as an electrician before I'd get fired.. or fried.
y'all must be too busy hating.
Man errything is just so busy busy busy
Charles Barkley statue unveiling on Saturday morning at 11 am CST. I think I'll take a rain check, even if it's sunny.
Busy here too, boss.
FootballStupid.com's reporting in this instance is so bogus it would make CNN proud.
We’re told that Auburn is doing some diligence, preparing for the possibility of Malzahn’s departure, and multiple sources in the profession have relayed that Auburn seems to kicking the tires on Bobby Petrino as a backup plan.
Also busy aqui. Working Thanksgiving week is supposed to be laid back, allowing you time to catch up on other work you haven't had time to get to. What gives?
apparently, everyone is out looking for a coach
Petrino for our coach is the stupidest thing I ever heard of. We will be looking for squeaky clean, when we look. I think it is ridiculous to even be thinking about looking for a new coach. We have one - and he is doing a fine job.
Petrino for our coach is the stupidest thing I ever heard of. We will be looking for squeaky clean, when we look.
I couldn't agree with you more. Well, I could, but I think I'll wait til Saturday night to do so.
I agree with my real life friends cincytiger and THT.
By the way on Saturday when we were walking back to the car, we walked by Jarrett Stidham on Gay Street. Looked like he was with family. But I was whispering all like , "Kids! look over there! It's Jarret Stidham!" and they were like "Who?" and I was like "The quarterback you just saw play!" and then their minds were blown that we had just walked by THE Jarret Stidham.
minds were blown? You sure they didn't see BEASLEY!!!
I obviously didn't 3 posts back :(
Y'all come on down to the Buy More today or tonight for some pre-Thanksgiving and early Thanksgiving shopping. Everything is on sale until 8 a.m. tomorrow.
Mike Leach on the perils of getting engaged
Plenty of good bargains at the Buy More. Come on buy!
Got any cast iron cookware?
we sold out of those at 12:19 AM. I've been on the phone since 12:21 AM trying to find some more. I'm going to have to hang up now so I can get ready for a trip to Auburn.
GO TIGERS!!!
that was pretty sweet
I think we have a good shot at making the SEC Championship this season.
I am still exhausted from yesterday. Hitting the ground running - another busy week ahead. I'm so sorry we didn't get to have our cornhole tournament. I let the season get away from me. Next year in Auburn!
Georgia Hate Week again already?
Cincy, I'm very thankful you didn't make me play cornhole.
E-Bro, Hate is 52 weeks, 1 day, and 6 hours (+/-) every year, and it ain't at Georgia.
The last 400+ miles yesterday were bumper-to-bumper. I was so exhausted when we got home that I had to watch the Iron Bowl just to get energized.
I see encouraging headlines on Kerryon, but I don't believe a word of it. His next snap from scrimmage may be in the NFL.
He seemed pretty emotional about the injury during the game, like it was a big deal. Maybe an idiot trainer misdiagnosed him on the field?
I'm looking for big games from Devan and Malik. I want our defense to play their best game of the year and score. Twice. Indoors with no wind, I want to see every AU kickoff go out of the end zone.
I want to see Kirby Smart cry.
Why would you want him to cry tears of joy? I'm no turncoat. I'm hoping AU will win. GO TIGERS!
Oh, and I want to see offensive holding called when Mr. Holland is being tackled or clotheslined.
Go Dawgs!
Also, Kerryon acting like he's "just banged up"
https://auburn.247sports.com/Article/Auburn-Tigers-running-back-Kerryon-Johnson-Shoulder-is-just-banged-up-heading-into-SEC-Championship-Game-against-Georgia-Bulldogs-111244401
He says he cried because he got emotional when the fans started chanting his name. Do you believe him, THT? Or are you calling this fine Auburn Man a liar?
Just banged up comes in all flavors, including seriously hurt bangedness. Seriously banged up and getting emotional when the fans chanted his name are not mutually exclusive. He was absolutely telling the truth. I do not anticipate him playing much, if at all.
if we lose, it will be bubbs's fault. He's obviously not AUl in.
We aren't going to score 40 this time. Our defense is going to have to play lights out and we must force TOs and avoid committing them.
I'm calling it 26-20, AU evens up the series.
If we hit em in the mouth early, they'll crumple. We'll do that.
Auburn - 55
UGA - 2
They block our last extra point and run it back to avoid the shutout?
Unacceptable!
Actually, we are going for two to rub it in and Stidham throws a pick-2, sinking his draft stock and ensuring he comes back next year.
Acceptable!
michael's scenario was the one I had envisioned with that score. Great minds think alike. Or maybe like father, like son, according to Sylvia.
Back from traveling around, and doing stuff.
I'm nervous about this uga game. Again. I'm with THT. KJ will suite up and then not play much or at all.
Anyone know where I can get some good cast iron ware?
Mills Fleet Farm had a good deal yesterday on the dutch oven I want, but I didn't jump on the deal. Still waiting on getting a deal at the Buy More from THT, who may or may not be my dad.
I think he'll be on the sideline rather than in a suite, but I don't think he'll be wearing shoulder pads... at least not the football uniform kind. That's my guess. Gus is going to coach the best game of his career, so it won't matter.
michael, Mills Fleet Farm just called to tell me they will no longer supply the Buy More with cast iron dutch ovens. We are about to strike a deal with a new supplier> who promises their Caste Irony Dutch Ovens are da bomb!
What exactly is the seasoning process for a cast paper dutch oven?
Lightly oil; toast to golden brown.
10BEASLEY!!!
what other 3 teams would y'all like to be in the CFP with AU?
I'm fine with facing Clemson again. I'd rather play tOSU than Wisconsin. Oklahoma's offense scares me to death. I don't mind seeing ua-t again but, unfortunately, that comes with an angry dwarf, something I don't want to face. I think it would be awesome to nip UGA in SECCG and a little other chaos gets them in CFP where we can take the series lead. Mark Richt seemed to have our number lately, but the U doesn's scare me.
Personally, I want to be the lone SEC team. I want bammers to be on the outside looking in. If we can get out of Atlanta with a win, none of the other non-SEC teams bother me too much. I think our team (especially with the time to get healthy) is just that good.
the non-nice person in me would love to see our defense punch Mayfield in the mouth and shut down OU's crazy good offense.
I think there's a good chance we'd get paired in the semis. And I'd be okay with that.
Then a Clemson rematch for all the marbles? Wouldn't that be sweet? Do what bammer couldn't last year, and close the deal all the while getting revenge from earlier this year.
I think it would be wonderfully chaotic if TCU beats OU by 20+, tOSU nips Wisconsin on a last second FG set up by a blatant officiating error, and the U beats CU (not sure the right amount for maximum chaotic effect), and USCw drums Stanford by 40 points.
Still not feeling so good about this weekend.
You have reason to not feel good about this weekend. I didn't feel good about the original UGA or bama game, but I actually feel good about this one. That is a bad sign.
Do the players even have this game circled? I feel like they forgot to circle this game.
I think they marked it with a square. Does that still count?
I think the problem is that they've probably already used up most of their circling power. You only get full circle strength on two games a year. Very much diminishing returns after that.
An unnamed source tells me that Georgia triangled this game. They don't stand a chance.
They also put three circles around ND and five circles around UF. A few weeks ago they also nonrefundably circled Alabama. I'm pretty sure they are hosed.
I felt good about UGA and bad about Bama.
Starting to think how I feel about games may not matter.
Are you Auburn, E-Bro?!?
I felt good about both and I feel good about this weekend despite the absence of #21 and #36 and possibly even #9. Somebody is gonna tote the rock for AU. We are going to get supergreat efforts from our OL and DL to win this game.
No, bubbs, I am Spartacus.
- No home field advantage
- Down to 3rd string (or lower) backs
- uga is looking for revenge/highly motivated
- We're the hunted
- Gus might start trying to call plays again
I see lots of reason for concern/ways we could lose this game.
Ebro may not be Auburn, but he is a true Auburn Man. I'll swear by that.
Kerryon's yards after contact have been critical in keeping drives on schedule, as they say. I think the offense will sorely miss him if he's not in.
- Gus might start trying to call plays again
I'm suddenly feeling severe pangs of anxiety... whatever a pang is.
So you think we're going to lose?
I refuse to be talked into that. We will beat Georgia. Again. With or without anxiety.
blogger doesn't want me posting. Y'all having any issues?
Yup. Same here. Having to post twice to get through on some posts.
Though not that one.
i've had many issues today with blogger. I had to submit my game circling comment about 10 times. But it was a good comment that I knew you guys needed, so I persisted.
this is try 5 on this post
just like AUBURN, we won't be denied!
michael, your circle comment was indeed essential. Thank you for your persistence.
Buy More is going bonkers with sales tonight. Come on Buy!!!
So you think we're going to lose?
We are going to lose the competition to see who goes to the Peach Bowl.
For breakfast tomorrow, I'm thinking along the lines of a Chick-fil-A bacon/egg biscuit and peppermint-chocolate chip milkshake. If I tell MrsTHT, she's liable to hide my car keys.
What was for breakfast?
What was for breakfast?
Blogger needs to pull itself together.
I had a CFA bacon egg biscuit (no cheese) and a peppermint chocolate chip milkshake
I had a CFA bacon egg biscuit (no cheese) and a peppermint chocolate chip milkshake
Thai Cafe/Surin for lunch
fascinating... my initial post didn't "go through" on my phone. Suspicious that it would somehow end up on the blog despite the error message, I refreshed about 5 times and nothing ever showed up. Come to my laptop and voila!
no problem posting at all on habotn.com
What was for breakfast?
I didn't want a Peppermint Chocolate Chip milkshake until THT mentioned it. Who starts a diet between Thanksgiving and Christmas? What a stupid idea! But, I had to just stop. Weight gain in your 50s is a - word I can't say. :(
Problem solved, Cincy: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51VvoQDL1fL._SX420_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg
that stuff will detox your dreams??? What's so toxic about dreaming of AU beating ua-t a dozen years in a row?
That's a bona fide, taco detoxed dream, THT.
Dreams that we'll get owned Saturday... thems the ones that need the taco solution.
sounds like you're having nightmares
Taco! Burrito!
What's that comin out your speedo?
Trouble! Yeah, yeah, you got trouble!
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Johnson, who injured his right shoulder against Alabama, has "done some things at practice this week"
Some things? I think that is coach-speak for "Kerryon has watched the offense practice without him."
The TN coach search makes the old BC coaching situation look like child's play
The current TN situation would have made for great fodder on any of the HABOTN iterations.
BC coaching situation was complicated with a lot of intricacies and such.
Have yall fixed blogger.com yet?
Yeah, we tuned it up last night. She's running good as new today.
Is that why none of you went to the campfire? Lazy bums.
I showed. Nobody there, so I went back to watching Roman Holiday.
Why were you watching Roman Holiday?
Went on a TCM DVR'ing spree last winter (during their 30 days of Oscars celebration or whatever) of a bunch of classics I had never seen. Roman Holiday was the next one on the list, and there was no Thursday night football, so I watched it.
It watched good.
What's on the list for tonight?
bubbs, it's USC vs Stanford in PAC12 championship game
nice try michael, but we all know that campfires are only on Thursday nights with college football. I'll see y'all there on Dec. 21, though I'll be arriving late since I won't get back from W-S until about 11:30pm that night.
But you know what I won't be late for?
BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!
BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!
BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!
BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!BEASLEY!!!
BEASLEY!!!
Well this website is still acting up, so you guys did a terrible job fixing it.
I like Roman Holiday. Solid movie.
Maybe blogger.com just needs a weekend to rest up.
Good news: I no longer feel good about tomorrow's game!
I'm becoming a bit curious why Arky hasn't yet moved on to Plan B.
Bad news: I no longer feel good about today's game!
I hope Gus hasn't been scheming a game plan that involves KJ wearing a football uniform today. I hope he's spent the week convincing his team they will win without KJ in the lineup.
Either way, as MrsTHT just reminded me, we beat bama!
rats... Gus tells the the team they can't win without KJ. And as injured as he is, I don't see them winning with him.
I'm trying to remind myself that we beat ua-t. Soundly.
Does this help?

Does anyone care about the feeling I have for the Central Florida game?
E-Bro, it might if I could see it. I'll watch when I get paroled.
michael, you actually have feelings for that game? Why?
Well the feeling is utter indifference. Should I not have that feeling?
No, you should have that feeling, but let's win the game anyway.
Fun Fact: Gus has never beaten a power 5 school in the post season.
UCF isn't a power 5. So a) we should beat them ii- Gus will still have never beaten a power 5 in the post season.
Too much practice time. Lets him install things like double passes
More of a quirk than anything.
I see E-Bro is a big fan of "coincidence."
I bet you don't even believe in science.
Lost a title game in the last second. Lost to OU after starting QB got hurt on first drive of the game.
Only one I have a real beef with is Wisconsin. Even though we took the game to OT, we just never seemed dialed in for that game for whatever reason.
That's my scientific opinion on Gus's bowl record against Power 5 teams, anyway. And, hey, I'll take another bowl win over a Group of Five team if I can get it.
Gus's success always seems to depend on the health of a single player. I remember when Lou Holtz, prior to 1978 Orange Bowl, suspended players responsible for almost 80% of the points the team had scored that season. Arkansas was a 20+ point underdog to Oklahoma, but won by 25 points. That's the kind of coaching I'd like to see from Gus. Adapt and win with who's available to play... healthy.

I would say Lou's upset of OU is an outlier and not the norm.
I didn't have a problem with Gus losing to OU or Bama last year without a starting QB. Those were elite teams. It's really just the 2015 and 2016 UGA losses that bother me.
To be fair, though, once upon a time, JJ was able to step in for Nick a couple of times in 2013 and 2014 and help get us wins.
Now, we seem to have a decent backup QB in Malik and we're better defensively, so maybe it's something he'll better be able to overcome in the future if he has to, which hopefully he doesn't.
Somebody needs to fix this blogger mess.
What are our membership fees going toward anyway?
you'll have to ask DL
michael, you'll have to ask DL
In the meantime....
I didn't want to mention this, but I'm way behind on paying my fees. This mess might be my fault.
In the meantime....

Coward.
is this thing working this morning?
Test.
Bump
oh hai guys
This thing is still janky.
It's like you post, but then it doesn't work, but you check later and upon further review the ruling on the field is overturned and it actually did work.
Expect in your analogy, that happens with EVERY PLAY.
Except*
Yeah. So it's a terrible football game
Groovy, man.
another day, another messed up blogger.com
operating on a hope that Kevin Steele doesn't take the open DC position at WVCC, I'm hoping he'll dial up a smothering defense for the game against UT next October.
re: my 8:52 comment, sort of like 1958 all over again... except not in Birmingham.
How many posts are pending in the ether? Maybe we should put 11BEASLEY!!! all day just to make sure someone hits it ;-)
Ones and ones if not tens are stuck out there.
11BEASLEY!!! ...and then some, if needed
12BEASLEY!!!! (just in case)
wet flurries not sticking :(
SEND ME ANY SNOW Y'ALL DON'T WANT!
btw, I'm stuck in the windowless bowels of the Buy More until midnight, trying to keep the shelves stocked during our Great Big First Winter Weather Event Sale! Come on buy!
We didn't get jack squat, but it was cold out there this morning.
You're obviously not in the correct part of Alabama
2.0 tells me it is now 33 degrees and pouring rain on top of the <1" snow/sleet. I just need roads to be snowy or wet and not icy around midnight.
We got a lovely snow on Friday! The perfect kind, hung in the trees and on the grass, but roads were largely unaffected. Mostly gone by this Sunday morning.
We got next to nothing. However, I was thankful the roads were not icy for my drive home from the Buy More. Spending the night there is not an option. I'll walk the 11 miles if necessary.
Christie's auction house probably needs to fire someone, or at least reassign them to a much less responsible position.
What a bunch of spoil sports. I guess a guy can't even bust his butt making an elaborate forgery and sell it for a million bucks without everyone whining and going on and on about it.
going on and on and on and on and on. And then, going on and on...
Be thankful I haven't inlcuded the string of messages posted to the listserv where this story came to my attention.
Actually I would very much like to see the messages on that listserv, please and thankyou!
I've deleted most of them; only the most recent 5 are still in my Trash folder. These were messages posted to a book listserv. But keep your hopes up, someone just crossposted it to a Map Library listserv. I'm not sure what order these are pasted.

The catalog description is still online here (p. 95-98):
http://www.christies.com/PDF/catalog/2017/CKS14301_SaleCat.pdf
About the paper:
"Printed on laid paper, a half royal sheet, 305 x 432mm (sheet at widest), bull’s head watermark surmounted by cross and entwined with serpent (height of staff and cross 56mm, bull’s head indistinct and cannot be measured accurately, but probably 101mm in total height, horns indistinct but probably 40mm in width), mean chain line width 34.7mm.
The height of the watermark is shorter than that found on the Hauslab-Liechtenstein-Bell-University of Minnesota copy and shared with the copy sold in these rooms in 2005 (115mm). The Kraus-Bavarian State Library copy does not (contrary to the description in two Kraus catalogues) have a watermark, although two chain lines 30mm apart can be seen. The Offenburg copy is without watermark, chain line width 26mm."

Why didn't that set off alarms?

KALAMOS BOOKS
Christie's description of the size of the paper on the Drescher map: “Printed on laid paper, a half royal sheet, 305 x 432mm.” Although not mentioned, the images show the chain lines are horizontal.
Christie’s description in 2005 of the four copies of the map then known:
1. The Hauslab-Liechenstein-Bell-University of Minnesota copy … On full sheet, 252 x 380mm (9½ x 15 inches).
2. The Kraus-Bavarian State Library copy … On full sheet 290 x 420mm (11½ x 16½ inches).
3. The Offenburg copy… On full sheet, 314mm x 378mm (12½ x 15 inches).
4. Copy sold in 2005 … overall maximum dimensions of the paper 180 x 344mm, trimmed to the margin of the gores. … watermark identical to the Hauslab-Liechenstein copy … [Presumably a cut down full sheet].
See http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/martin-waldseemuller-c1470-c1522-world-map-4516015-details.aspx
All the maps then believed to be genuine were on full sheets presumably with vertical chainlines. Isn’t it curious that the new copy is on a half sheet with horizontal chainlines? Seems to assume that the printer had a hodgepodge of paper around which he cut to size as needed. Seems unlikely and inconsistent with Stevenson’s observations on paper use and, in any event, something that should have raised suspicion. In 2005, Christie’s stated “Precise conclusions on the origin and precedence of the various papers used for the Waldseemüller gores require further study.” What happened to the further study?

This is starting to sound like a movie caper - a combination of the forgeries of the “Freeman’s Oath” and the Galileo and the TexFakes. H.P. Kraus descriptions are usually very accurate. Is it possible that the real Kraus - Bavarian State Library copy of the map was stolen and replaced with a forgery?
By the way, can the glue spot as well as the ink be analyzed and dated?

In the eyes of the press quoted by Joel K. he has ceased to be a dealer and is now a “storied collector”, whatever that might be. Canonisation next? Theodore Besterman, for whom he was “a dealer named Kraus” (a well-deserved slight in the cicumstances of their acquaintance) will turn in his urn.

tl;dr
tl;dr?
Is that some kind of pre page turn warning?
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!
If a BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! falls in in the ether and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
