Yes, it's that time again

THT has alerted me to the fact you all are approaching 5,000 posts, which means it's time for a new thread. It would be my pleasure to create said new thread. Before I leave, however, I'd like to provide you a picture of the always-lovely Mariska Hargitay.
Have a nice day.

6:40 your time, technically 20 minutes early but about 30 minutes later than I had hoped. It was one of those mornings where I could not gain consciousness (about 60% of my mornings are like that in old age, a significant drop from the 99.999% in my first five decades). I wish I could just suddenly wake up alert like MrsTHT does.

Been busy, busy at the Cincy hacienda for a few days. I know y'all know this, but THT and his Mrs. are amazingly awesome people. Our friends from Cincinnati have a 3 year old granddaughter just diagnosed with leukemia. The granddaughter and parents live in Wilmington. Our friends came over from CIncy to stay in a hotel and keep the five year old sister while the 3 year old started treatment. THT and Mrs. had the grandparents and 5 year old over for dinner. They said they were treated like royalty. The 5 year old wants to go back for a sleepover. :) The world is full of good people and I know two of the best!!

I posted a long paragraph explaining why it is not. Apparently it didn't make it through the ether

11:49 AM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

Diehard is not an anytime watching movie for me. I will suffer through Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider, Broken Trail and a few others, but I draw the line at Diehard and Terminator movies.

12:18 PM
Blogger michael said...

Come on cincy, it's one of the best movies of all time! I've loved it since I was a kid.

I will say none of my kids have seen it... because the unedited version definitely earns its R. In the era of cord cutting, kids can't see nearly as many awesome action movies. I can remember watching Die Hard and Rambo and Terminator Predator and Commando and all kinds of awesome edited movies on TV back in the day.

Unfortunately, it's too late for me to order one of these for you to have it by Christmas. Maybe in 2048.

Looking forward to watching NMSU in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl next week. I can't remember whether or not I watched their last bowl game on TV.

This is the only football game I remember watching that year.

I'm I the only one in the southeast watching CMU vs Wyoming? GO POKES!!!

I'm guessing less than 10,000 fans there which is about 10 times more than were at the Bahamas Bowl earlier today.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm I???

How 'bout them Pokes?! They forced 8 turnovers on the blue rug in Boise. My only regret was the snow never arrived in sufficient quantity to cover that awful Smurf Turf.

How many of you made the short trip over to Legion Field for the big bowl game today? Looks like you had your choice of seats. In fact, I bet there's a row in the lower level where you could move freely to stay on the line of scrimmage the whole game.

After a double+ shift and 3 hours sleep, I'm drooling on myself, but I still got to work early in hopeful anticipation of my parole hearing this afternoon.

8:34 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I haven't been paying any attention to basketball, but I noticed AU has a good record. Is this going to be like prior years where start off great against a bunch of nobodies and we end up at +/- .500 or will this early season success carry over into conference play? I.e. will I be setting myself up for disappointment if I start paying attention?

9:16 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

We're going to find out quick by starting with Tennessee away and Arkansas at home.

10:08 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

UNC won at TN and lost at home to Wofford. The logical conclusion is that the game at TN is a gimme.

10:25 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Like E-Bro said, we should know within a few conference games if we got a real shot at the dance this year.

Early predictions say we are right on that bubble.

10:47 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

ok, playtime is over. Time to buckle down and get to the real work if I'm going to have any chance at parole for good behavior this afternoon. I've spent the day thus far working on the weekend Buy More work schedule for April through December. I'm sure, if you could see it, you would quickly observe that yours truly has crammed his weekends into the Spring & Summer months (with one in December for good show) and zero work weekends during what I anticipate to be the terribly mediocre season we didn't get this past Fall. Except for Thansgiving weekend. I usually work that holiday and weekend when the Iron Bowl is on the smelly side of the state.

11:48 AM

I've got Sons of Katie Elder on the DVR. Dean Martin and John Wayne were good, but the other sons couldn't act worth a hill of beans. I don't even remember what I watched after the Rose Bowl, but I didn't last long. A huge bowl of ice cream followed by two dachhunds in my lap sealed my fate.

8:53 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

busted pipes and flood in the penitentiary this weekend knocked out most everything. I'm thrilled internet just came on. The work will pile up until they get the phone system back on line. I'll either get paroled early or end up stuck here late trying to get caught up. It's not hard to guess which option I'd prefer.

9:02 AM
Blogger michael said...

Yikes! Gotta drip those penitentiary faucets.

Yesterday has to be the worst day in Auburn football history that didn't involve a loss to bama.

10:28 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I was so disappointed and downright embarrassed in our offensive and defensive trench warfare yesterday. Offensive lived up to its name and then some. When Stidham leaves the pocket, he's a lot slower than he looks. He must run the forty in 10 flat.

I sure hope our new Aussie lad Arryn Siposs can punt. According to one sportswriter, Siposs "can roost the footy a long way". I have no idea what that has to do with punting.

11:04 AM
Blogger michael said...

I think Stidham is the opposite of Tom Brady when it comes to pocket presence. He has a knack for moving into the pass rush.

O line was with most offensive offender, though. It's hard to rationalize how great they played in our big wins and how bad they played in the big losses.

11:21 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I can't remember what I did the past two years on the evening of the CFPNCG, but I'll be doing it again this year. Sleeping, perhaps? Somebody call and wake me up if UGA gets a lead of 22 points or more.

12:48 PM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

Well, the freeze got our Auburn condo. Sprinkler system froze and burst on the fourth floor and flooded all the units all the way down. Mr. Cincy left in a rush to get over to check out the damage. I mostly wanted to make sure my Scottie B prints weren't damaged. ServPro is on the way. It's just stuff. Someone may have to remind me of that a few times.

7:26 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Dang it!

Sorry to hear that, Cincy.

I feel lucky that the cold only got my heating unit. Hope you don't have much to contend with.

5:00 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

bizzzzie day at work. How come they get snow up north and snow down south, but no snow right here in the middle? Correction... not enough snow right here in the middle.

Cincy, I'm so sorry I wasn't there with a car full of towels.

7:27 PM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

Mr. Cincy has been working with adjusters and ServPro and others all day. Looks like they are going to have to move us completely out of the condo and take down all the ceilings. Lots of soaked insulation in the ceilings to deal with. Also have to examine all the electrical as lots of water came through the fixtures. Mr. Cincy and the insurance adjuster for the condo complex (the association insurance will be covering the repairs and all) are having a spirited discussion about whose insurance is going to pay for the contents that were damaged - mattresses, chairs, rugs, etc. Anyone care to place bets as to who will win that discussion?

11:16 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Blogger bubbs said...

I'm laying good money on Mr. Cincy.

Hate that you guys are having to go through this mess. It would be one thing if you were getting a remodel out of the deal, but you already just did that!

8:48 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm guessing that the Vegas oddsmakers aren't even bothering with this one. All the money is on Mr. Cincy. This is a more sure thing than the Packers in the first and second AFL-NFL World Championship Games.

10:12 AM

The line has swung so far in favor of Mr Cincy that I'm putting $10 on the other guy. Only way to make any money at this point, really.

Hey THT, the predictor people now have AU right in the middle of the pack of March Madness. Don't start believing, but don't book up your March quite yet.

1:37 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I've got a bit of vacation time in March. Maybe I'll go see them in the tournament. Yep, that's what I'll do. Or maybe not. The last time I went to an AU NCAA tournament game, they trailed 26-4 after about 12 minutes. They almost pulled it out. I think the ref swallowed his whistle in the last minute to AU's detriment.

We do have a nice selection of 1, 2, and 5 gallon galvanized paper gas cans.

I've been in the market for a 2.5 gallon galvanized paper can. Any chance you'll get some of those in?

I wanna try installing it on someone's motorbike. I think it would be lighter and faster that way. Surprised no one has thought of this before.

Arizona coaching candidates. The list includes just about everyone but Donald Trump, bubbs, and me. There are two Michaels (surely one of them must be ours) and even a Cincy... or is that a Clancy... either way, close enough.

Can you imprint my family crest on the galvanized paper gas cans?

12:26 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Yes, a transfer print can be applied after the 3D printing process, or your family crest can be embossed during the 3D printing process. It's really a matter of personal preference. The cans sell for 0.99, 1.99, and 2.99. The family crest, printed or embossed, is only an additional 199.99 USD.

Blogger bubbs said...

Not sure a picture of a goat is worth 199.99.

It's actually the 1997 Arby's logo. Didn't feel like spending the time or the money to make a unique one.

12:58 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Glad you copied the earlier logo. I'm not a fan of the squatty and more widely spaced Arby's on the current logo compared to your family crest.

1:11 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Personally, I think Arby's is even worse than Cracker Barrel. However, the logo is okay. I would go with the pre-1969 version. It's a bit wordy, but there's something about it that says "family crest."

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

in high school I would frequently stop by Arby's for a snack of two sammiches, two fries, two colas for some very low mid-afternoon only price. If stopping there for lunch or supper, it was always 4 sammiches, no fries. I love those things but I don't remember the last time I had one :(

I love Arby's roast beef sandwiches, but my wife doesn't, so I maybe have one every 4 years or so.

Can't you go on a "daddy/daughter date" and make it happen?

I mean, I can't see why you would want to, but it doesn't seem that hard to create the opportunity. Other than the fact that you don't want to spend money, and you pack lunches for your daddy/daughter dates.

There's still plenty of time to save big bucks at the Buy More Winter Freeze Sale. We're completely sold out of cast paper kitchenware. However, we've got a superb variety of officially licensed Thumb Wrestling Rings. I'm tellin' ya, you just can't find these at Amazon

8+ days since we made it to 32. We should hit it some time today on our way to low 40s. I've enjoyed the cold (and I hope it froze every nasty critter hiding in the ground) but it will be nice to wash all the salt off my car without creating an icy hazard in the driveway.

Looks like we should order some March Madness tickets

did I mention that MrsTHT wants us to go to Japan in April to visit her cousins? She hasn't seen them in 50 years. I'm not sure we even know their names. We're assuming they still live in Kumamoto. Perhaps it's a bit premature to be searching for cheap/reasonable airfare.

Has anyone checked into the phone records of Hard Freeze?

Go for the Cherry Blossoms, THT. Stay for the family members that Mrs. THT may or may not have living there.

10:46 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

We'll be there late April.. if we go. According to this calendar we will miss the cherry blossoms in central/southern Japan (Kumamoto is very southern)... and hopefully the crowds that flock to them.

Maybe a side trip via train to Hokadate will be worthwhile.

Oh it's just the 10 year old Ms South Carolina clip. Her entire quote:

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh, people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future. For our children."

Blogger bubbs said...

I didn't even go watch the clip, because I knew exactly what MJT had linked without having to look.

That should probably give me pause...

1:45 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

At least she didn't call the Asian countries Oriental, assuming MJT's transcript of what she said is correct.

3:19 PM
Blogger michael said...

The evolution of the word "Oriental" into a slur has fascinated me. I remember being surprised to learn it wasn't cool in college.

Read this a couple of years ago and found it interesting:

http://beta.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-tsuchiyama-oriental-insult-20160601-snap-story.html

I mean, I'll behave myself and not use it obviously (not that I used it a bunch prior to learning it was considered negative). Now people are genuinely offended by it, and it's never good to offend. Language is not an absolute and it is genuinely not a cool word now... but like I said, I'm fascinated by its evolution.

A word headed in the other direction (maybe?).

4:09 PM
Blogger michael said...

Which word you talking about?

The band name thing seems like common sense... much like the N word, what is it my business telling how someone of another race should handle their racially charged words?

As far as the Redskins are concerned... I mean, that term was always derogatory, right? I actually just did an internet search and was surprised to see that 1 in 10 DC area Native Americans were OK with the team name. Interesting. Maybe that's what you meant by "word headed in the other direction." Redskin started out as offensive but became more benign due to non-racist use.

Unfortunately, there's really no way to know which word you were talking about.

we had frozen pipes in the wall of our garage leading to two outdoor spigots. The water is now running again at the spigots and I'm hoping we have no burst pipes there. It's a little late for me to learn this...
Turn the water supplying the spigot off (hopefully there's a shutoff in a heated portion of the home that supplies only this spigot. If not, you could install one).
Open the spigot to drain the pipe, and leave it open until the cold weather has passed.

9:42 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Hmm. I'd say your chances of escaping a bust is greatly dependent on what kinda pipe you got in there. Hope you don't come home to a flooded wall!
