BREAKING NEWS: Auburn releases 2008 football schedule. See below.

Hey everyone. I made a rare appearance on WMSP-AM (Montgomery) this morning for a brief chat with Barry McKnight and his sidekick. A great time was had by all. We discussed the Tuberville situation at length.

If you missed that segment, which probably didn't happen considering WMSP's substantial popularity, I also was on The Sports Monster in Birmingham on Tuesday afternoon. We discussed the Tuberville situation at length. Seeing a trend?

We have an agenda here: To make this the HOTTEST Auburn blog on the 'net.

Auburn has finalized its 2008 football schedule. There were only two slots that weren't already discussed: the opener against La-Monroe and the annual November pastry. Tennessee-Martin gets the honors this time.

A HABOTN tip o' the fedora to (no city) Press-Register ace Evan Woodbery for pointing out that Kayne West's recently deceased mother, Donda, was a 1980 graduate of Auburn University. She died Saturday night after a plastic-surgery procedure.

I've received a few emails and a stray blog comment or two wondering why Tuberville and some of the players come off as being so cavalier about the Georgia loss. I don't blame the kids. They're basically regurgitating what the coaches tell them in most cases. Tuberville set the tone Sunday by identifying the UGA debacle as "just another ball game," so you can't then hold the kids liable for saying the same thing. That's double jeopardy or something. We need to get the HABOTN legal team on this ...

Some Auburn fans know the story behind Jerrel Jernigan and his recruitment last season. He was an all-state quarterback from Eufaula who wanted to play at Auburn. He's kinda short (5-11) and kinda small (175 pounds) but really fast. The Tigers liked him, but not enough to offer a scholarship. So he went to Troy instead. Larry Blakeney offered Jernigan a scholarship. No problem.

So far this season, Jernigan has caught 23 balls for 254 yards and three TDs. He's been earning steady playing time for five weeks now. He was a peripheral part of the scene prior to that.

He caught 11 balls for 102 yards and a pair of scores against Georgia two weeks ago. Could he have played at Auburn? Draw your own conclusions.

Jay,

Why was Gordon Borges emailing you? I thought it was well known that if CTT stays, CAB would be gone anyway. It's even been said it's a mutual parting of ways. Does Gordon Borges not know this? Do you expect Al Borges to be at Auburn next season? Thoughts?

Will you post the Gordon Borges email?

I have asked Gordon how he feels about me posting the email. It contains nothing inflammatory and will disappoint anyone seeking drama. As I told him, I thought it was cool that a coach's dad is out there getting his son's back.

When Gordon gets back with me, I'll respond accordingly.

Is it possible TT is trying to force AU to buy him out of his contract? I just wonder if something happened earlier in the season between TT and the "people that matter." I find it hard to believe that Texas A@M would pay 6 million dollars just to buy him out plus his contract. It seems to me that it is getting to the point where TT nor AU can save face in this situation.

I'm not sure what to say about that. People on both sides of the issue are acting in ways I didn't predict.

Tommy doesn't burn bridges as a rule. Now, look, he angered a lot of people at Ole Miss in 1998. I wouldn't call that burning bridges. He took time to explain things to a limited number of power players within the UM enterprise.

It's difficult to believe that he's tanking this situation at Auburn. Tuberville hasn't operated that way in the past ...

I don't think Tubs is tanking Auburn. I think he has too much pride to do something like this. Tubs is one of the better rebound guys in the profession.

Here are some things that Tubs just hasn't improved on during his tenure...

1. Auburn is never ready to play at the beginning of the season.

2. Auburn under Tuberville is NOT good when expectations are high. That's a leadership issue, a personality issue maybe.

3. Auburn has not recruited the QB or DB positions that well under Tuberville. Besides Campbell, and besides Carlos Rogers, no absolute standouts. These are positions that destroy Auburn a few times a year.

4. Auburn average 4 losses a year under Tuberville. What power team is as inconsistent as Auburn is once they play themselves into contention for any championship?

Tubs is a good man, a good manager of business, and he has an image as a guy who does things right. Just ask him. He's only as good as his assistants and right now that's not that great.

I hope I didn't imply that TT was tanking games to force AU's hand. It just seems that as media-savvy as TT is,he had to know that not coming out and denying interest in the A@M job would rattle the powers-that-be.However, from talking with other AU fans I sense an anger toward TT that was not present before that non-denial. I know this was made worse by the humilation at Georgia but it was there before and how can TT and AU put a happy face on this situation now? I think people are tired of this constant drama between TT, Jimmy Sexton and whether or not he is coming back.I feel for the players who no matter what they say publicly must be wondering what in the hell is going on. I know us fans do.Thanks for the info Jay I really enjoy your blog.

Jay, any comments on the anon's assertion that it's a done deal that CAB will be out? I haven't heard that rumor. All I've heard is random internet commenters wanting to get rid of him (as a convenient fall guy perhaps?)

I haven't heard anything official about Al Borges being in trouble. Considering what all is going on right now, I doubt Tuberville has put much active thought into Borges' job security. I'm sure that day is coming soon, though.

Borges' offenses have been successful in the past, capable of producing 3000yd passers and 40+ppg; the variable seems to be the talent with which he has to work with. Based on that, I'd prefer he be around another year to see if a QB with a stronger arm and more mobility (Kodi probably) can get the O productive again. That being said, the other side of the passing equation, receivers, seems to be an ongoing problem and given that some our receivers were pretty highly touted it looks like Knox hasn't been getting the job done.

One other thing, with all due respect to Jernigan, his performance is due in part to Troy's system - they get lots of balls to lots of receivers. He's fourth on the team in catches per game and third in recieving yards per game.

One last thing, you need a feed for your blog.
