News of the day, 12/26
Hey everyone. Auburn opened Chick-fil-A Bowl workouts this morning with a closed practice at Georgia Tech, site of the worst loss I ever saw the Tigers take. That 17-3 pounding by the Yellow Jackets in 2003 was absolutely pathetic.
Anyway, this team is better than that one. I wasn't trying to dredge up past failures.
Still not much news of note right now.
We're the New England Patriots of sports blogs. In fact, we're the HOTTEST Auburn blog on the 'net.
Two somewhat high-profile guys may miss the bowl game. LT King Dunlap suffered a knee injury during a practice last week in Auburn and hasn't progressed significantly since then. Considering the way freshman Ryan Pugh played at left tackle this season, I don't think Auburn will be compromised over there. Also, linebacker Bo Harris underwent shoulder surgery last week and it out for a while. He initially injured the shoulder during two-a-days and never regained full strength.
Coach Tommy Tuberville said Wednesday that the school is trying to re-schedule its Sept. 6 game at West Virginia next season.
``We have agreed to play them on a Thursday night in midseason on the road if ESPN can work out the schedule, move other people around a little bit," he said. "We were willing to do that. It could give us an open date in the middle of the season plus a Thursday night game in the middle of the season, give us two Saturdays off plus we have a Saturday off after the Georgia game."

Words have yet to be invented to describe the 2003 Ga Tech game. It's still painful to think about, thanks for giving me nightmares tonight.
My guess for the proposed schedule is:
- Sat Sep 06: Southern Miss @ AU
- Sat Oct 16: Open (was S.Miss)
- Thu Oct 23: AU @ WVA
- Sat Oct 25: Open (as always... just sayin')
In my opinion, though, this game is too big to be on Thursday night. But the Big East _owns_ Thursday night football... and ESPN will bend over backwards to get this game on mid-week.
2 Things
Really lame to schedule that WVU game on Thursday night ESPN.
That GT game in '03...I'll never forget Tubs' lame excuse. The slant. The slant killed us. Hilarious. We were running with Carnell Wms and Ronnie Brown and the slant killed us. Nallsminger is all I gotta say.
That was a proud and cocky team leading into the season. As usual the preseason prep was lacking something inspirational. I think having Franklin here changes that. We'll be ready to go in '08. We won't be figuring out who needs to play where 3 games into the season.
Who wants to put money on Tubs and Tony going at it more than once next season?
I don't totally understand why Tuberville wants this Thursday night thing. His answer on that issue today sounded like Kristy Swanson's retort in Ferris Bueller's Day Off:
Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
I think it's fairly obvious he wants his offense finely tuned prior to that game. He says to have an "almost open date" during mid-season since the game is on Thursday instead of Saturday. Ok, Tubs. Gotcha.
Wouldnt the "almost open" date come right on the heels of a "short week" from having played on Saturday and then five days later?
I dont see where Tubs is coming from on this one.
8:43am- exactly. Makes no sense at all.
It makes sense to me if the So. Miss and WVU games are switched on the schedule and the WVU game is moved to 10/23. We would have 1 1/2weeks to prepare for WVU and then extra time for the next game at Ole Miss. Currently there is an off week after the 10/18 game against So. Miss. I'm sure Tubs doesn't want to publicly diss USM, but he would probably rather play them in the 2nd game with a new QB and OC instead of WVU.
Then he should state his reasoning. Three days later it's easy to conjure up a reason for him by us armchairs. Just sayin'...
Plus, and this is just me talkin', but is West Virginia going to be this threatening in 2008?
All I can think about is Louisville in the months after Petrino left. Butch Davis? He's suddenly a star?
I'll be blogging momentarily ...
