Al Borges is in fact gone. I can write it now officially because, well, his office is empty. That's undeniable evidence.UPDATE:11:20 a.m. Here is a story I just assembled: Borges out as Auburn's offensive coordinator
It's not clear to me yet if Borges was pushed out or he left on his own accord, though coach Tommy Tuberville said last month that he wasn't going to make staff changes on his own. Auburn will make a new hire shortly. I mean real shortly. I may be able to update this later in the day officially.
UPDATE:12:20 p.m. Auburn sent out a quote from Borges this morning. "After speaking with Coach Tuberville for the better part of 20 minutes, it became increasingly clear that Auburn needed a new offensive coordinator."
Seem incomplete? I thought the same thing. No context provided to me, so I can't give you all anything more than the quote. Bizarre.
We know that Troy offensive coordinator Tony Franklin has interviewed with Auburn. Troy coach Larry Blakeney, a former Auburn assistant, granted Tuberville permission Sunday night. Franklin is known for using a frenzied version of the spread offense, though the quarterback is encouraged to run. It reminds me of what West Virginia uses.The Trojans' quarterback, Omar Haugabook, led his team in rushing attempts (155) this season. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry.
The Tigers' quarterback, Brandon Cox, averaged -2.2 per "carry". He didn't run (on purpose) very often.
The Arkansas Rivals.com site is reporting that Will Muschamp may end up getting the Razorbacks' job. That's a real possibility, folks. At least one coaching search is wrapped up. Two at once would be tough.UPDATE:5:35 p.m. ESPN.com and NFL.com now reporting that Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino will resign to accept the Arkansas gig. Muschamp said he never was interviewed by Arkansas.
Muschamp was interviewed in connection with the job at Southern Miss.

Yes. There is buzz. I'm working on that right now. My record on predictions is mixed, but my guess is that the next OC will come from somewhere close ...
Close being Tony Franklin. Which would be good for Auburn, but horrible for Troy.
I think that's a very prescient guess.

I am guessing that the new OC would take over duties for the bowl game? And if so, would the offense have any noticeable changes?
I expect "the new OC" to be on the job like tomorrow or Thursday. Practice starts Friday.
Looks like there may be another search on the horizon.
Insider info, use your own judgement on whether or not you believe. The new OC will be with Tubs tomorrow night in Foley...if that rings a bell. It's a done deal.
Losing Muschamp is not good. Not good at all. I don't know where find another one like that. He's special.
If Muschamp gets that Arkansas job, that's just awesome for him. Talk about a GREAT first job!
Absolutely, Jay. Couple mill a year in Will's pocket. He's been earning it. But, wow, what a loss for Auburn. Just hard to imagine following up Muschamp.

Told ya... he didnt do anything for Indiana. I am just getting sick of the acceptance of mediocre preformance. Get rid of the fat and those who dont perform and lose.... ALL those who lose.
Al had no idea this was coming. I feel bad about that. Obviously, Auburn's offense needed to go in a different direction considering the events of 06 and 07. Just ... I hate seeing someone get blindsided.
Now on to Muschamp.
Petrino to Arkansas. That means we at least get Will one more year.

Dudes, the SEC West is now (if it wasn't already) the toughest conference division in college football.
Has there ever been a conference this loaded with outstanding coaches? It's pretty amazing.

that's pretty strong, but just a "what if" type thing.
I'd say that's a pretty epic Western Division, had divisions existed back then.

Brooks
Johnson
Even Bobby Johnson, in my mind, is an above-average coach. Rich Brooks is the meekest of the bunch -- and he's pretty good. I can rag him. I'm a UK graduate.
8 of the 12 current head coaches have been to BCS bowl games. That is just sick. Going undefeated in the SEC will be a tall task now. Makes me think about 2004 and how unlucky Auburn was.
Not only have 8 of 12 SEC coaches made it to a BCS bowl game, but all 8 have won a BCS bowl game with a combined record of 10-3. No other conference has more than 4 coaches that have been to a BCS bowl.
That's a really impressive stat.
