News of the day, 1/9

Hey everyone. The latest chatter is/was that Western Michigan coach Bill Miller was flying to Auburn this afternoon for an interview. I'm here to tell you that he wasn't in Auburn and, to my knowledge, isn't a candidate for anything aside from "Western Michigan Coach Most Likely to Have His Own Thread On An Auburn Message Board" honors.

Believe me on this one.

I went with the Jenna Fischer picture today because it's been too long. She is the official HABOTN Hottie and, as you can see, she at least makes cursory attempts to play Guitar Hero 3. You're welcome.

I'll update this more as the day progresses. I'm trying to get some information, though it's been difficult. I think a few of you have noticed. I'm not sure.

NOTE TO NEW READERS: I'm joking about how I may not have noticed the HOTTIES' thirst for coordinator news. No need to email me to confirm your interest in knowing who the next coordinator will be. I am aware.

Running backs coach Eddie Gran interviewed today with South Alabama officials about the school's top football job. The Jaguars are to field their first team in 2009.

``It went well," said Gran, who has been at Auburn since the 1999 season. ``There are many people up for the job and I'm excited about the opportunity. It was a great experience."

Lots of people are talking with USA about this job, which is weird because that doesn't seem like an appetizing situation to me. Then again, I'm a sports writer in Montgomery. What do I know about coaching?

Former Auburn OC Alan Borges is expected to interview for the same position at Ole Miss in the coming days. That's what Parrish Alford at the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in Tupelo, Miss., says. I believe him. I don't believe Borges will get that job. Other candidates include ... guys with bigger reputations. Follow the link for more details.

I know why Bill Miller was mentioned....there was flight headed down to Auburn from Kalmazoo Mich. I really hope he was not interviewed.

I was hoping it was Bill Mueller, who was a helpful member of my roto-winning team in 2003. Imagine my disdain when dude in question was just some guy from Michigan.

Neither man is in Auburn's plans. Or even in Auburn.

Here is something interesting....Doc Holiday from florida. What do you think?

Mna, what about the DC Position? We never get enough news on that :)

Sorry Jay

Ha. I had a guy email me demanding more information on the DC search ... as if I had a whole bunch stuffed in my pocket and I was being miserly about it.

Still working on it. I predict an announcement tomorrow.

Jay, I saw a thread about Eddie Gran coming down to Mobile tomorow to interview for the USA HC job. What do you know about this?

I don't have a ton of confidence in this DC search. So, no news is good news. Alan Borges will need some more horses for the Ole Miss game to capitalize on his strengths unless he decides to come out of the box a little. On the flip side, let's see if all the "Tuberville Holds Borges In Check" myths are true.

My wife's hot.

Peace

Doc Holliday would be great. I would never tire of hearing him say things like "I'm your huckleberry" and "You're a daisy if you do". Oh, is there another Doc Holliday?

Now that I've actually spoken with Edward Gran, I will post information regarding his dalliance with South Alabama to the main blog.

He is NOT going to be in Mobile tomorrow or the next day or the day after that. He may never go to Mobile in an effort to see the Jaguars' gig.

And on the Tombstone front, lemme say that I always interpreted the line as "I'm here, Huckleberry" ... because calling a man Huckleberry, in my world, is a sign of disrespect.

So you wouldn't call yourself Huckleberry, right?

ALSO: On the "hot wife" matter ... can the HOTTIES be permitted to make our own judgments? I think that's appropriate given the camraderie we have developed here.

6:14 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think that's a fair request. Now if I could only figure out how to post her pic I wouldn't be such a Huckleberry.

Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I'd offer to post it myself, but I don't know how I'd preface that on the site. No real segway.

How did you get your pic on the site? I think our resident Gump affiliate, Alan, wanted to post his...or David Hasslehoff's or something.

Why do you think there will be a decision tommorow on the DC? I just think it is weird that nobody really has any idea who Tubbs will hire.

6:36 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tubs is a defensive coach. Two years ago he pulled Muschamp out of nowhere. Will wasn't even a real candidate then. Tuberville has kept this on off the radar. I kind of expect him to pull another rabbit out of the hat. Even with Sims gone, it would take a complete and total moron to make that talented defense look bad. By look bad I mean losing by 20+ points to UGA. Rest my case.

Yes, I did want the Hoff under my name but was told it would not be in my best interest to do so. I think the new DC will be Jack Hines, anyone remember him?

He made Antoine Nolan look like, well Antoine Nolan :)

Wonder how Grans interview went today?

The DC search will have to wait. What I want to know is who is the blond in the background? Hope I'm not offending.

7:19 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

The blonde in the background is Angela Kinsey, another actress from "The Office."

I meant to put the Gran stuff on the main blog. I'll do that now.

For you people seeking a better view of Angela Kinsey, you're welcome.

The Hoff is always in the best of interests.

I believe you are correct.

"I'm your huckleberry" means "I'm just the man your looking for". I can't believe you're not up with
19th century slang, Jay.

I like this blog as it contains only the news that really matters. It doesn't contain all the "gobbly gook". That's what I call some good times.

I don't disallow images, whether it's Alan or Hoff or an anonymous hot wife.

If you all figure it out, make it happen.

The a href tags work and can be copied from a whole lot of websites.

Didnt know it was Alan Borges? Hmmm.

Here's my DC short-list:
South Florida Wally Burnham
New Mexico Osia Lewis
Cincinnati Joe Tressy
UCF John Skladany

I wonder if Tubs is looking to the NFL again, though.

10:14 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

My buddy Goldberg wisely pointed out the other day how often Tuberville looks to the NFL for hires. That got me thinking ...

10:26 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah if I remember correctly for the last DC search NFL experience was part of the criteria.

10:44 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hence Gibbs and Billy Muschamp.

4:59 AM

One of you guys made the most intelligent guess that the DC will come from the NFL. Tubs wants a strong DB coach as well as someone who is strong defending the dynamic pro-style QBs like Stafford, Perilloux (this isn't a typo), and whatever Petrino and Fulmer bring to the table.

6:51 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

By the way, "Billy" Muschamp will be the perfect DC for the Big 12 with exception to defending Oklahoma.

Question:

Is HABOTN pronounced (ha-bot-in)? If so, I dig it even more.

The HABOTN is being pronounced correctly.

Glad you dig it. I do -- particularly when Jenna Fischer playing GH3 is the main picture associated with said site.
