News of the day, 3/5
Hey everyone. I just saw what was one of the five worst basketball games of my life. Auburn was terrible. Georgia was slightly less terrible. UGA won, 59-54. The Tigers now share "Worst SEC Record" honors with Georgia and Alabama. All three are 4-11 so far.
Auburn shot 34 percent overall and 19 percent from 3-point range.
Georgia had almost nothing going. That should give you an idea of what Auburn had.
PROGRAMMING NOTE: I'll be attending the Auburn football practice tomorrow at 7 a.m. and will update you all asap about the assorted goings-on.

at least it was chuck person bobblehead nite. glad my sis picked me up one. i hate tolbert went out with a loss. i've always liked watching him play.
He played hard again tonight ... but you gotta do better than 6 of 31 from outside to win without big guys.
I tire of the "we didn't hit our shots" alibi that many coaches (not just Lebo) use when they lose to a team that uses a zone defense.
Aren't there way to attack zones rather than letting the zone dictate your life?
6 of 31 is pretty terrible. i was at work so all i had was the cbs gametracker to watch. i'm glad i didn't see all those missed shots.
and, uh, i have no idea how to attack a zone. sorry.
Duke and UNC and UConn and Louisville know how to attack a zone. They've been doing it for years.
You pretty much need a big man down low or at least a respectable inside game to draw the zone in and open up your outside shooters. Either that or your shooters need to be pretty accurate with great range.
I agree that you need size to exploit a zone, but it's not like Georgia was huge ...
"not hitting the shots" whatever.
It's a "pointless" discussion which is both a bad pun and an understatement.
But I guess it is easier than saying, "we lost because we were terrible."
Jay,
You're right, that loss was pretty rough. But it wasn't as hard to watch as that one to A&M last year - uggh.
Anyway, are you going to the SEC Tournament? If so, look for yours truly. In fact (shameless self-promotion alert!) I'm holding a photo scavenger hunt for fans to sort of add a little more fun to the event. There's a $25 prize; more details on my blog: http://auburnelvis.com/blog/2008/03/08/win-a-25-secstorecom-gift-certificate-from-auburn-elvis/. I love it if you'd throw a little publicity my way. Thankyouverymuch.
