Auburn adds another
The list keeps growing. At this rate, Auburn will have no Signing Day anxiety.
A 23rd player has committed to the Tigers. Linebacker prospect Jonathan Atchison of Atlanta's Douglass High said he's planning to sign with Auburn in February. He is expected to play outside linebacker, likely on the weak side, in college.

Jay the signing day anxiety will be all about who will actually sign the LOI. I really like this early signing business. It kinda takes the power out of the hands of the 16-18 years old pubescent teens and gives it back to the coach/school where it belongs.
Atchison is not any good anymore and he won't be getting that fourth of fifth star from the influence at Rivals due to his not picking Julio Jones University.
Jay, your boy Josh Moon wrote a pretty interesting little diddy on the Forbes article. He took a step into the land of I Dare You.
I'm disagreeing Crudup. Rivals has been showing us some love this year. Cotten moved up to 4 and the originally 2* CB became a 4* not to long ago.
But I am agreeing that Mr. Moon did step into the "how do you like me now" league.

I swear I think college football is 75% recruiting and 25% on the field resutls these days. I know that one has an effect on the other, but wayyyyyyto much attention is paid to it on the front end. But its what the people want.
Scott: I want to be your best friend. I felt like I was the only person on earth that felt that way about recruiting. Its nice to know that there are two of us. I know Alabama hasn't had much to cheer about the last few years, but listening to them the past year you would have no idea that football is actually a game that is played on a field on Saturdays
Bill, Word. Just when i think it couldnt get any bigger, recruiting has grown to epic proportions this year with ESPN entering the fray with their paid websites. Now, I am not one to knock Bama, but I will use them as an example. Last year Star Jackson was the next coming. Now it looks like he will never see the field as Mccarron will probably be their QB of the future (who has yet to play his senior year in high school). You can play that game with any school including Auburn. And when you listen to the radio call in shows there are 40 and 50 year old men who call in and act as if they had stayed up all night counting recruiting stars and coming up with great lines such as 'Our class has a 3.7 star average and they had a 3.4 star average'. We must be better!!! The worst thing is, it makes the off-season worse than it ever has been. I love college FB as much as the next guy but this part of it has got me shaking my head.

Auburn is for real.
It's VERY TOUGH football.
Don't get hyped on a player until he's done something in a game.
Then in a season.
Then in a career.
Otherwise, once someone bigger, faster and a year or two older hits you in the SOUL that first time...
You may just go to Memphis instead.

I'm with you guys on the recruiting stuff. I love busting Bryan Matthews' chops because Rivals gave Tyronne Green and Sen'Derrick Marks, two good NFL prospects, two stars.
I mean, there was no reason to give them more than that based on their HS numbers. Numbers, as we all know, are only valuable to a point.
BTW ... practice begins at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow. I'm aiming for a lunchtime update.

Gentlemen, please note that I was being sarcastic in my comments on stars. And here's a fact. If Rivals oh doesn't have any film on a kid, guess what? He can't be ranked higer than a 2. There's Marks for ya. Tray Blackmon was nothing but film, film, and film. And it was tasty. But it was mainly just film.
Etherdige was a nobody to any other school for the most part. He camped at Auburn a few times and now he's on his way to All SEC caliber. Jerrell Harris, who EVERYBODY wanted in the end, they're finding out he's not exactly Mr. Physical.
And I'm with Bill and Scott and everyone else on the recruiting stuff. I follow it very, very casually and find it a little silly that people hang on every commitment like its life or death.
There are enough five star busts and one star NFL draft picks to make it little more than educated guessing by these recruiting sites.
