My view of the defensive depth chart
I was thinking about this and couldn't put it down.
This is like sooooo unofficial. Just my view.
DE (strong) -- Goggans, Gray/Savage, Greene
DT -- Marks, Clayton
NG -- Ricks, Blanc, Doolittle
DE (weak) -- Coleman, Carter
LB (weak) -- M. Johnson, Evans, Herring
LB (middle) -- Blackmon, Bynes
LB (strong) -- Stevens, Courtney Harden, Pybus
CB -- Powers, Hood
CB -- McFadden, Thorpe, H. Adams
S -- Etheridge, C. Thompson
S -- M. McNeil, M. Slade
BIGGEST SUPRRISE ("good" division): Clayton. He looks like a player now.
BIGGEST SURPRISE ("bad" division): Raven Gray. It's obvious his knee isn't quite right. It looks like he's not hustling sometimes, too.

Our linebacker corp is sick. I think we might have one of the best groups in the country.
Raven Gray is not in shape for one. Did he think those 5 stars meant immediate playing time? Maybe mid season he can contribute. Without effort, those coaches won't let him step onto the field. Nobody's so good they don't have to practice. Maybe Bo Jackson and Brent Fullwood. Cadillac was too good of a dude not to.
So here's my off the wall poll and vote. Favorite player all time?
Me? Caddy hands down. The talent and even more heart. Dedicated to the team wherever he's been.
Jay, you have to vote here, too, although you're not a fan per say. You have a 10 year window of getting to know the players and being around their character and various talents.
By far no doubt (drum roll please) Carlos Cheatum. I know off the wall but fell in love with him listening to the tigers living in nashville. I will never forget the hit he delivered to....the Tennessee RB??? Reggie? I dont remember his name but just crushed him.
My favorite would have nothing to do with what said player accomplished on the field.
My finalists:
Sen'Derrick Marks
Adlai Trone
Courtney Taylor
Ben Leard
Antarrious Williams
Jeno James
Jason Campbell (his final season)
Tommy Agee ... I don't know why. Just brings back good memories to say his name. I was there with my dad the day he had about 300 yards against FSU. Watched him break a 60 yd. TD right up the middle. We killed them that day.
1. Takeo Spikes
2. Karlos Dansby
3. Carlos Rogers
I like defensive guys.
JayG...
Is DeShaun Barnes practicing? I didn't see him on your list. What about Ryan Williams? Is he waiting for his summer grades?
My list:
Heath Evans
James Callier
Junior Rosegreen
...quality guys.
I saw Ben Leard at Dunkin Donuts a while back. He wasn't there for the coffee.
As James Willis said today, DeShaun is "rusty" and still is learning the game of football. If you're wondering just what in the heck Barnes has been learning since arriving eight months ago, well, that's one I can't answer.
It sounds like Barnes is even with Spencer Pybus.
From previous Blog
ahhh,
The Association....still have the cassette tape of the greatest hits...whats your fave? never my love...windy...chersih...requium?
Crudup. The reason I am sorry for Raven is because it looks like he wont make an impact this year.
Favorite Players
Fred Smith
Rudi Johnson
Tracy Rocker
Andy Fuller (See UF 94 game)
Frank Sanders
I liked Rudi more as that year progressed. He didn't seem happy here. It wasn't Auburn; he just wasn't real school-centric.
Association: Never My Love. How awesome is that song?
ON AN UNRELATED NOTE:
Remember back in the day when they'd have IROC races where every driver had the same car? I propose a dating IROC competition where you must woo the girl with Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy" playing in the background. If you can make that happen on a cold call, you know, that would be worthy of my praise.
Just free associating ...
Gotta go with Along Came Mary by The Association.
Now my empty cup is as sweet as the punch.
Favorite player might be Leard. He was in school when I was there and he just seemed like a nice guy.
Atlanta, his last name was Cobb. Cobb/Webb was the UT tandem of tailbacks
Jay, I believe you could write a script with Stiller that would sell some tickets.
marcus washington
jason campbell
tracy rocker
frank sanders (the florida game at florida he helped win was unbelievable)
lionel james
william andrews
heath evans
ben leard
patrick nix
tommy agee
i like washington because he's a good guy who gives back--same with campbell and evans. i liked agee because he was a good guy and he was from maplesville, right down the road from my grandparent's place--ie, out in the middle of nowhere.
You know, Marcus Washington I should have included. He is an exceptional guy.
Bottom of the list:
Chris Porter
The end.
Right there with you on Chris Porter. We are not the only ones either Neal McCready had a 15 minute rant on the radio one day a few years back it was quite comical. I always hope Auburn players do well when they leave him being the one exception.
Neal and I worked with Chris Porter together. Man, that kid was a tough one.
Basically the exact opposite of Marquis Daniels.
Strickly on the field favorites:
Pat Sullivan - I actually met him when my brother graduated in 1971 - before he won the Heisman. Later went to school when his brother Joe was a backup QB.
Joe Cribbs/James Brooks - best 1-2 tandem of running backs before
Cadillac and Brown.
Freddie Smith
Bo Jackson
Lionel James
Aundray Bruce
Daymeune Craig
Brandon Johnson - FB/LB - one of the hardest hitting players ever.
Karlos Dansby
The entire '04 backfield - Campbell, Brown, Williams
Tre Smith - his '02 Iron Bowl victory was a thing of beauty.
Favorite current players:
Mario Fannin
Ben Tate
Tray Blackmon
