Practice video: 8/12
No practice footage today because they changed the schedule and didn't tell us until it was ... almost time for practice. Please accept some interview highlights from CTT, CTF and WR Rod Smith instead.

Can we please atleast name an oak tree or a water bucket after Rod Smith. Just to show other players what a young man can develop into through hard work and effort. Regardless of his star rating in high school.
My favorite player on the team thanks Jay.
Rod Smith Row, at Pat Dye Field, in Jordan-Hare Stadium?
Listening to Franklin's comments he sounds like he is not even close to picking a starter. I have read a couple of different times that Tubs wants a number 1 that gets the snaps in practice.
Is a rotation coming or will this be settled before the season starts? Personally I don't care who it is the best man should win.
I love the idea of "Rod Smith Row." That's brilliant. I love the HOTTIES.
I'm starting to think this is going to be a two-man rotation. I'm talking about almost equal roles. Chris Todd is throwing really well. Kodi Burns is running really well and it's clear he's in command on the field. He just isn't as refined with his throws.
How could they play one and not the other? That would leave too much skill idle on the sideline.
Well you know the old saying Jay, If you have two starting QBs that means you really don't have one. I would hate to see a situation where both are looking over their shoulder and we all know pulling the guy with the hot hand just "because" is never a good idea.
I've never favored a rotation I just think it's a position that needs more than half the practice snaps to develop.
Of course the next college game I coach will be my first. So I'll shut up.
Tommy Tuberville said today that he would choose a starter after the next scrimmage. It was on ESPN.com. Don't visit the site though, for every visitor ESPN autmoatically donates a dollar to Kirk Herbstreit's Ohio State knee pad fund.
The ESPN.com guy, Chris Low, was here yesterday and today. He has legit information.
Still, have you ever known Tuberville to be wrong about something?
Outside of starting Tre Smith over Kenny Irons in the 2005 opener no. But I'm still scratching my head over that one.
He's been known to miss a fact or two.
Lester started over Irons in 2005...
Jay, where has Matthew Sweet gone?
Not against Ga Tech he didn't Tre had 13 carries, Stewart had 5, Irons had 1 and Lester had 0.
Cox threw 4 picks
We had 50 yards rushing with the best back in the league watching the game.
What i have gathered about Tuberville is that he sometimes just talks to talk. He is not really lying but sometimes he just says whatever he is thinking at time. Jay you probably have noticed this more than all of us. But like i said before them naming a starter two weeks before the first game was definately news to tony franklin. And i don't think the quarterbacks are going to be looking over their shoulder because it is a designed two quarterback system. They are both going to play no matter how terrible one of them is doing.
And tre smith definately started over lester and irons against tech.

OKAY ... I want a little love here. When I said this very thing six months ago, everybody and especially RM, said I was the biggest idiot on the board.
Just sayin'.
I'll tell you what else ... and no, I don't mean for a whole series or anything, but I expect that we will have a few plays where both QBs are in the game at the same time.
Matthew Sweet as in ... 100% Fun and Girlfriend?
Yes, that one, Jay. 'Definitely' that one.
Windtalkers
Phred we have already had this conversation. I said that Auburn was going to have a two quarterback system a long time ago. Auburnmath 101 said yeah "you are pretty much going to have to play two quarterbacks in this offense because they get tired." I called him an idiot because quarterbacks play full games all the time. We got into an arguement about it and then he went MIA. I never called you an idiot because I said the same thing. Feel free to look through the archives for something i didn't say if you wish.
As Colin Cowherd did after the 2006 BCS Championship Game where Florida wrecked Ohio State, I decided to change my previously stated opinion about some things. Here are my opinions with clarification:
* Football is a very intense sport. D-I football in the SEC is super intense. What have Auburn fans (me included) criticized Tommy Tuberville-coached teams in the past for? Laying an egg; not starting early games well; in general, a lack of a sense of urgency.
* Things have changed in this state. Nick Saban isn't a messiah, but he is a good coach and a great recruiter. That means if Auburn plans to maintain a lead on Alabama (or any other SEC school) and move to the next level, they have to pick it up a step.
* No coach in his right mind wants to "run players off," but they want maximum effort from their players. No coach wants guys who take out frustrations on their teammates, but you don't want guys who accept mediocrity as the norm either. I'm not supporting things that are illegal (blocks, cheap shots after the play, etc.), but until the whistle blows and within the rules of the game, anything goes in this game.
* DeRon Furr admits that Auburn wasn't his best choice and that the move to DB is his best chance for playing time and a future in football. (see this STORY in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer).
I'm ready for the season to start where the intensity can be directed toward an opponent.
Phred, The folks that dissed you were a couple of "emoes" that have long since disappeared. I have predicted and hoped for 2 qb's all along.
My opinion from the cheap seats: I would start Todd just to run the offense and test the game plan. Burns comes in to change things up and run a modified game plan. Depending in how inovative CTF is, we may need Burns athleticism later in the season as the other teams catch up to our offense. Burns will learn from Todd.
Olympics question: Who did Spitz piss off to become the uninvited?
For those worried that not naming a starter early means they won't get enough practice reps, just remember that under Franklin, AU is running 3-4 times as many practice reps as before; practice touches for #1 and #2 are not going to be a problem in his system.

Don't know Phred but he has certainly got wadded panties because of it. Not sure I blame him though. He was a champion in his day noone can dispute that.
BTW: Your blog is like a drug Jay.
Drugs are bad. Mmmmmkay?
I miss Matthew Sweet.
Girlfriend is so awesome.
I wouldn't sweat the 'one or two' QB question. Clemson's D was clearly unsure of what each one would do in the bowl game. I know I was floored by the called QB draw that Cox lumbered for 9 yards. Looks like the Clemson LBs were too.
I'm all for giving Defensive Coordinators cold sweats the night before games with a 2-QB system, especially when they have different skill sets that simply beg for misdirection and innovative play calling to catch defenses napping. Add to that a stable full of running back talent and the tempo?
There are worse problems to have in the SEC than two good QBs.
I'm 100% sure this is what Franklin wants. He thinks this can work. I thought it was a train wreck in progress initially.
Now, after watching the QBs so much this fall, the plan makes sense. They're switching in and out so much right now that it won't seem odd to the team during a game.
It probably will take some training time for the fans, so consider this your acclimation period.
This is going to happen...
And then there's Freedy Johnston
2nd attempt to type a message that you can read ...
Jay G, because I know that you really need my affirmation, I am in agreement with you. Two QBs all year long, or until it doesn't work anymore. How could anybody not have figured that out by now?
We have two more than decent QBs, why wouldn't you play both? It's a no-brainer.
