Here is The Important Stuff:
- Coach Tommy Tuberville said QB Kodi Burns is "questionable" with that leg laceration, though I don't believe him. I'll bet cash money that Burns will play against Southern Miss this weekend.
- Burns didn't practice today.
- WR Mario Fannin didn't seem upset about the Franklin stuff from Sunday. Fannin said Franklin discussed things with him. The synopsis Fannin provided sounded like a transcript from yesterday, so there was no sugar-coating. Fannin said he understood what kind of improvements needed to happen. I guess that's put to bed.
- DT Tez Doolittle said he was surprised at how well things went for him against Monroe. It's obvious that his own expectations for himself are up up up.
- UPDATE: WR Robert Dunn said he was moved back to the first-team offense today. He later said his trip to Tuberville's "doghouse" was related to his mouth. He didn't provide any details.
- UPDATE: Today is the first day coaches can offer scholarships to high-school juniors. It's also the first day coaches can contact those players on the phone, so, yeah, Auburn's phone bill is about to swell.
- UPDATE: Tuberville said coaches have moved several wideouts to different spots to help recreate some depth. Recall that Frenchy, Montez Billings and James Swinton all either out for the season or on the mend. I know Darvin Adams was moonlighting on the outside today. Mario Fannin was out there as well.
``You've got to be 100 percent," Tuberville said. ``We're not going to do it just because somebody else offered a scholarship. It doesn't really make any difference. A lot of times, it's `They were the first to offer me,' but that has hurt us with very few over the years. We want to make sure that we're sure and they're sure."

I have come to the conclusion that we will all be officially dumber this season AFTER listening to coaching interviews....though I do appreciate the effort, Jay G.
Tubs has gone back to his roots in his ripe age. I don't believe him either. He doesn't give many clues and that's pure design. He's going to be an awesome grandfather. He'll have the coolest tall tales on the dirt road.
He's been weavin' the tales for years.
It's only now with the advent of videos and blogs that you see it for yourself.
My daily off the subject comment: I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but tropical storms/hurricanes are literally stacked up one behind the other. Gustav, Hannah, Ike, and another one that will probably get a name sometime tomorrow. Weird.
Jay, Mario needs to get the ball more on wide recieve motion sweeps.... that will loosen up those safeties.... then we set them up for over the top
I don't really understand why Mario isn't a bigger part of the plan. It's baffling to some degree ... though, I mean, he's technically a tailback playing behind some guys (Tate/Lester) who are better, healthier and more experienced.
Don't you think they are worried about re-aggravating his shoulder injury. I mean what's the point in him getting alot of touches against LAMO and risking him getting hurt again.
The only thing that makes Tate better than Mario is last year's South Florida and MSU games. Fumbles. Otherwise, Mario has the best vision out there and he can follow up blocks like a pro.
Not a huge Tate fan. I know many swear by him. I think he's an average Auburn tailback.
I'm not a huge Tate fan myself, but he's a productive back.
I know why you all like Mario. He has that star quality with the ball in his hands. It's just that ... I see things from the coaches' perspective more (because I talk with them, understand 1/2 of what they say) and they really want Fannin to improve on some stuff before they give him the green light.
He's reckless out there ... and not always in a good way.
True. He's reckless. Fun to watch. I'm still holding my breath per the USF game last year. Didn't like him returning kicks. But when he he take the ball and have an opportunity to see the field he's awesome. He seems like he gets it in his interviews. He appears to be very coachable.
I'm glad you all get to see these kids more now. It used to be, you know, you'd see the same five kids on TV.
Newspaper and Internet sites kinda vary it up a little bit.
if we're strugging for playmakers at some point (say, LSU) don't you just have to suck it up and say, get out there Mario and don't drop the freakin' ball?????!!!! heck, UT keeps giving Arian Foster the dang ball and he'll run for 100 or so then fumble, then run, then fumble. hhhmmm....., well, maybe they do know what they're doing on the plains. of course, they're not the smartest bunch up here in big orange country. it took Kenny Irons a while to figure out he had to block somebody before he became a stud. Hopefully Mario figures his deal out sooner than later.
Great point. Amost brought it up yesterday. Irons was still not a very solid blocker. But they played him eventually because he could blast through the line and move the ball quickly.
Jay, why is that quote from Tubs posted? The last one in regards to 'cruitin'?
crud, that quote goes along with a previous paragraph b4 JG started putting UPDATES in there. back up a bit and it makes sense.
