Video report, 9/16
I'll focus on defense today.
I've got Tuberville looking over my shoulder right now. He says this blog's name is too long. He says it should be "Hot Blog," but that's Antoine Carter's space.
Enjoy.

Funny stuff from Coleman at the end.
Perhaps CTT can bring his same theory of "simplification" to CTF's playbook this Saturday.
Speaking of Saturday, it can't get here fast enough...
"Hot Blog" huh? That rhymes with "Hot Dog" which is esentially not "Hot" at all.
Jay,
Great Video as always!!!! i think CTT might be making comments before he knew how its pronounced.... did you tell him?
Finally Coleman "hopefully I get to do it Saturday then I'll feel a little smart about myself" PRICELESS!!!!
We had a minor writer-on-SID shouting match today and Tuberville, ever the gossip maven, rolled through to get the scoop.
He loves this stuff. Loves it.
Anyway, I'm headed to my daughter's soccer practice. I'll check back in around 8.
Peace to all.
i'm intrigued by the writer drama. Any details you can offer up to us?
Jay, good work as always. Our defensive players all seem to have a sense of humor. I bet they are a fun bunch to interview.
Just some typical drama that happens. Writers and those who promote Auburn's interests -- be they SIDs or administrators or coaches -- sometimes run afoul of each other.
A good yelling usually is the best remedy. That's what went down today. The Head Coach loves beat-writer drama. He was all excited today.
beat-writer drama. that's ausome. lmao.
Someone told me that the whole shout-down was recorded by a JOX microphone that was being used to interview Tommy Trott.
The tight end was standing only a few feet from the incident.
I'd love to hear that tape.
That was the second major blow-up of the year.
For the record: I wasn't involved in either one, which is an upset.
Okay, this is my first year with this whole blog following thing, but should I know what SIDs are? Do writers argue with sudden infant death syndrome? Kind of heartless of you. And how do you even argue with a syndrome?
SID=Sports Information Directors
(a.k.a. stat and propaganda jockeys),
Anonymous is correct.
SIDs work on Auburn's behalf to coordinate our efforts. They help us get players, statistics, videos. Friction occurs when we aren't provided ample access to players, statistics, videos.
Generally, it's player access.
do most you beat writer guys normally get along, or are there a few you wouldn't mind sabotaging their laptops? promise we won't tell.
Jay,
So who was involved in the shouting match.... we need details... we are your HOTTIES remember your peeps!!! Thats why we come here to get the stuff no one else has and we get plenty of good stuff from you my friend.
Keep up the good work Jay.
The big questions is Phillip Marshall as grumpy in person as he sounds on the radio?
Blogs need more Wednesday content.
Monday content is necessary to get us through the whole going back to work thing while we relive the weekend,
Game previews, which generally run towards the end of the week, are good and all, to get us fired up for Saturday.
Wednesday, though, is that abysmal day during the middle of the week. We're thouroughly removed from the thrill of the past weekend by then, and the next weekend seems to be forever away.
I need Wednesday content...and lots of it.
by the way, I've been following HABOTN net now for a couple of weeks, and officially deem it the my favorite blog on the net.
Not sure I should mention the writer involved. He has access to publishing space; he can publicize it if he chooses.
I'd say the core beat guys, the people who have been here for at least a few years, all get along pretty well. I wouldn't say we're homies. I don't hang out with their families or anything. We're all around each other so much, you're bound to at least get used to the other guys.
Phillip is one of my favorite people. He's always been very nice to me ... and nobody works harder.
Peter, that's a good point.
I'm always open to ideas. Wed and Thurs are tough because there isn't much going on during those two days. Interviews have ended for the most part.
I'll be dropping a video around noon. So you have that. I'm sure something else will pop up.
If you get access to the tape of "the incident," will you be posting it?
A corndog feature would be decent Wednesday content.
Don't get me wrong, I have always enjoyed Phillip's writing, he just comes across as grumpy on the radio. It's pretty funny sometimes.
Okay, back from NYC and all caught up. I think I saw CPR working at the Yankees game as a NYPD officer. I'll try to get that pic sent to you later Jay G. I want to see how it turned out first.
So I want the scoop on this "Kodi 50%" thing. I think it's about 50% BS. What's the word?
I think it's 100% bs.
glad u made it back safely phred. it hasn't been quite the same here without ya. holla.
Rivals has a "follow the recruits" page. Just checked it out, and so far, our boy Cotton is flat tearin' it up.
Jay,
I don't believe the 50% stuff is correct either. I do think we'll see a good bit of Kodi Burns. I almost think it's a lock now we'll see him in the red zone.
Thoughts?
I don't see how they can justify to themselves a deal where Kodi Burns takes over inside the red zone.
So Todd is supposed to do the dirty work so Burns can get the credit? What has Burns done on the field to deserve that?
Jay,
here are my thoughts on the Wednesday Content:
We should give our take on the status of the season so far with a letter grade base on the following:
Offense: C-
QB play needs to be better with quicker decision making and using the pass/ run threat. this could be higher if we cut down on the penalties adn mistakes when we are in the "Redzone"
Defense: A
I'm so impressive that the guys have taken to the "Technique Taught" defensive scheme of CPR like ducks to water....they pass rush well, stuff adn play the run well and cover and tackle well in the open field.
Special Teams- B
Kickoffs can be better adn farther, have to stop directional kicks due to the fact if they go out-of-bounds ball comes to 40 yrd line.
Punting has ben a pleasent surprise with Durst I think if he keeps this up he is inline for freshman All-SEC honors
Kick returns it is acompliment when the opposing team starts kicking away from you, and Robert Dunn has finally got it... get what you can north n south and stop looking for the "Big" return it will happen, just keep plugging away.....
My Wednesday thoughts...
Jay,
Do you know if they have worked a lot this week on short yardage situations? That seems to be the big issue with the spread right now is goalline and short yardage.
It doesn't have to be Burns, but we've got to generate TD's on the goal line.
Jay,
Please clarify your above questions about Kodi. On the game recap, you wrote:
Not sure what to think about his immediate future here considering he wasn't summoned when Auburn moved deep into MSU territory the other night. That's usually Burns time.
Jay,
Love the in fighting between the two groups that cover Auburn. I picture an Anchorman type showdown, with you looking at Evan Woodberry of the Press Register and Saying "Did you just throw a trident".
AUnMOBTOWN: I like that idea.
jim: I didn't say it makes sense; I'm saying that's what they did against USM and I figured they would try that again.
re: infighting on the beat. There is some of that, but it's rare that you see newspaper-on-newspaper violence. We're a bloc.
The teams used to be so easy to delineate. P-Marsh is an internet guy now, but he would fight alongside the print guys.
I'd guess that Rivals probably would roll with print as well.
TV? See, I like Mike Raita a lot. I wouldn't want to brawl with him. Same for Sheldon Haygood at Fox in Birmingham. And Don Hawes.
It's all very complicated.
New video coming in mere seconds...
"So Todd is supposed to do the dirty work so Burns can get the credit? What has Burns done on the field to deserve that?"
At least one of the running plays to the quarterback is a straight ahead run. I haven't seen one play to a tailback that is straight ahead, it's all that east-west crap.
No one should be worried about who gets the credit. They should be worried about scoring a damn touchdown.
Franklin has said very clearly that he doesn't want to shuttle quarterbacks in and out.
Why, then, would you expect him to shuttle Kodi Burns in when the team approaches the end zone? That goes against what Franklin said, though that is a big change from what he said three weeks ago.
Yeah and they were also going to run 90% west coast in the bowl game. My thing is, this is the biggest game Tony Franklin has ever coached in, it's not the time to be stubborn. He needs to score in the red zone. I don't care if he calls a direct snap to Big Snacks Berry, get the ball across the goal line.
I think he's aware of how significant this game is for him. He's no dummy.
Eccentric, yes, but no dummy.
What's your take on them simplifying the offense? To the untrained eye that was the most vanilla version of the spread I have ever seen last week. Anymore simple and we are going run out of plays and kneel the ball on third downs.
