All we have now are the embers

Seemed like it went well. Lots of HOTTIES ... including most of the ROF.

If you have suggestions on when our second campfire should be held, let's hear it.

Well I came in at the end of the party but it looked like a good time.

How hard would it be to set one of these up for Sat. night during the game? For those of us that won't be in Nashville, it might be fun to virtual tailgate around the campfire!

I figure peeps will drop in for a bit, drop out to handle biz, drop back in.

I think 4 is a bit late, honestly.

I wonder if 3 o'clock would be a better start time. I'm sure it would be better for our peeps livin' on eastern time.

Yea, I couldn't get it to work? It it because I wasn't using my registered name? Forgot my password. Haven't used it in weeks now.

Nah. This has nothing to do with Google or Blogger or anything like that. No registration required.

I work from home on Thursdays, so any time is fine, but 3:00 would be even better.

Sorry I missed it, but my work makes it dang nigh impossible to attend. Gametime is also a no-no. The wife is a fan too, and to do anything but watch with her would seem wrong.

Is there any way you can archive the chats so those of us who miss them can go back and read them?

Hate that I couldn't catch more of it. Got tied up in Miami traffic, and had stuff to do by the time I got home. Maybe next time.

Geez, was it fast, though. 1995 was a long time ago.

9:17 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I don't think there is a way to archive currently. I'll look into a few other options during the next few days.

Everybody has better QBs than Auburn. Pitt. USF. We can do this all night.

Also, Rock Band 2 is the rhythm game of choice at the Tate household these days.

Guitar Hero is so ... April.

Phriggin Phred....i can dig it. ok, i'll bite. my guess is that Vandy won't be able to handle the hype....or the AU defense. AU 21, Vandy 13.

did anybody else watch COLLEGE FOOTBALL LIVE today/tonite/yesterday (thurs. edition). they profiled our struggles on offense and their description typed on the bottom of the screen, no lie, read :AUBURN WILL NOT RUN SPREAD OFFENSE REST OF THE SEASON. a little misleading perhaps? the gist of what rece davis & robert smith said were accurate, but that shocked me a bit.

10:46 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I heard several people tell me that today. I did not gather that from the CTT comments. Jay, what is your take. Is the spread dead?

10:52 PM
Blogger ADP said...

That's what B. Matthews said Tuesday.

As the two time winner of the Sportscall pickem on 93.9 in Auburn, I feel confident in saying I don't expect a lot from the O. Nor do I think it will be needed here. AU 14 Vandy 13

Blogger ron mexico said...

To me the spread is a formation. Quarterback in the shotgun and four or five wide receivers. To say we are not going to run that anymore is ignorant. We might run more two back with quarterback under center, but we are still going to run the spread formation, just 100% "spread offense"

Now that Barry Bonds has retired (or was forced to). The word "spread" has replaced the word "steroids" as my most hated sports word.

Ron, I'm with you in that one. Even the word itself has become an absolute gimmick. Did the word itself make recruiting what it is this year or did some coaches get off their butts after they learned they would be staying here and do what they did the three years prior to the lackluster performance in last year's class?

"We don't have spread athletes."

"We don't have a spread QB."

That one's the funniest since we have softer arm Brandon Cox Part II.

"The purpose of the spread is to fatigue the other team into submission."

Love that no huddle, Tony.

"We don't run 'spread' here. We don't know tempo here. We don't know what tempo is."

Nice.

"This isn't Tony Franklin's spread. This is Auburn's Offense."

In other words, don't expect anything at all other than stingy defense and screen passes.

Wait. Here's a great quote from Tate.

"I just took the ball and turned on the jets. Nobody could catch me."

It was a long TD run in practice. And he was totally serious. Practice.

Blogger ADP said...

Has Frankling been available for interviews this week? Or did they put him under a gag order ... "Uh ... yea - Tony baby, don't talk because it makes people gag."

7:01 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Spread: Not dead. Changing, but not dead.

Tate: Practice? We're talkin' about practice, man. I'm net even talkin' about the game, the actual game, when it matters.

Reporters are strongly encouraged to get what they need from coordinators on Sundays. There is no gag order on anyone, but it's difficult to track down Rhoads and/or Franklin during idle time during the week.

Crudup,

I wouldnt compare Chris Todd to Brandon Cox...couldnt hold his jock. Cox was a tough S.O.B (See LSU 06) and quite a leader who won some very big games (FL, GA, LSU, BAMA, BOWLS). The guy is gone after winning 30 games in three years, give him a break.

I was only partially kidding. I have noticed that it's been kinda quiet this week. I'm saying this with the full knowledge that I am in fact a homer, but I think we might see something a little more impressive this weekend.

Blogger Denny Crum said...

Well then, I would love to see video of you playing your axe to whatever game is the one in the Tate household.

Spread is now the most overused word in football now.

Has anyone ever noticed how ESPN, almost every year, tries to force words into the daily lexicon. Sometimes it sticks, other times less so. For instance,,,,,

They tried to start calling VPI (Virginia Tech) Va Tech all the time. Didn't stick.

Instead of interceptions they started calling things 'picks'. Stuck pretty well.

When teams commit turnovers, they don't 'value' the ball. didn't stick.

There are more. Just observe. It is like there are memos that go out with talking points that must be said.

I really am not a big fan of ESPN. I just brought that up as an illustration of how they try to influence 'EVERYTHING' and I mean 'EVERYTHING'.

To me, they almost ruined college basketball by favoring Big East 'mugging' defense. It is not coincidence that scoring went down in the 80s.
