New feature

I have added a HABOTN Hall of Fame along the right side of the page.

You can find it under the Twitter feed.

The Ring of Fire represents the most enlightened and veteran HOTTIES whose frequent contributions make us the hotspot we're becoming. Without their guidance, we'd be lost like Noel Mazzone during the 2001 Chick-fil-A Bowl.

We're also appreciative of the up-and-comers who are learning the ways and showing remarkable promise. Their hotness will not go unnoticed.

Also, recent research suggests buck has been reading the HABOTN longer than anyone else.

... keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars ...

Eddie,

Does he think the failures in 05 and 06 (when we were loaded) were because of the offense? No, it was in 05 becasue we started Tre Smith in the GT game instead of Irons and Vaughn missed 5 field goals v LSU - in 06 we just didnt show up for two games. I swear I think his neck is really bothering him.

Scott,

I agree. As much greatness as Tuberville has had, he sure does know how to lay an egg. It kills me when he does, especially because I am usually in the stands. I have been at every game that he laid an egg at except Vanderbilt this year. Those games are hard to drive home from. I always have felt and feel that if he could ever change the page and hire a good offensive coordinator and allow him to have his staff in place, that Auburn could really be rockin. Tubs knows defense as good as anybody, but you got to the have the offense to keep them off the field, and too often we are putting the D in too much trouble.

Eddie,

Preach it....one of his biggest mistakes ever...handing the keys to the 03 offense to Nallsminger....Granted history will show we lost to both national champs and UGA who was 13-1, but he blew that one big time.

9:50 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sensible,

Jay Paterno, OB coach

9:51 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Mr Sensible...Penn State definitely has a coach in waiting. Hell, I would be willing to bet that Paterno has very little to do with this years team. I believe he justs sits in the box with no Head phones now during the games. Its time for him to go, and they need to hire who ever is really running this team.

9:51 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

That 4th down pass from Campbell to Taylor was the turning point of Campbell's career and of Auburn football.

That's when, at least for a short period of time we became a dominant program. From that point forward in 2004 they played completely differently than they had played the 2 3/4 games prior to that.

9:52 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Questiyon?

Why do some people think recruiting isn't a big deal? OK. Maybe it isn't a big deal to UT, FSU and Notre Dame because they suck. Kind of feel guilty for saying that this year.

Any who...

Aside from all the fluffy propaganda the services like Rivals spew, recruiting really, really matters. You can turn on just about any game from Wednesday to Saturday and you'll see offenses with skill players that just look better than ours.

rk, I've ALWAYS felt exactly the same way about those two plays. They were so so prior to that. They played hard. But they weren't going to be better than 8-3 until then.

Also, after that game came the really saucy stuff from Borges. The formations. The trickeration. Times were good.

9:55 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Scott,

His biggest blunder is keeping Knox and hiring Ensminger and then keeping Ensminger. As you may or may not know, I am also not a big fan of Nall. The OL play this year reminds me of 03 when we had no ability to handle a slanting defense. His loyalty to his assistants could end up being his downfall. But if the rumors are true that TPTB are going after a buyout to go get Jimbo Fisher, then I don't get it. Jimbo is a great guy, but I don't see how he could possibly be an upgrade from Tuberville.

9:56 PM

9:57 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

If Campbell doesn't hit Taylor, then I agree, we are probably a 9-2/8-3 type team that year.

All of the sudden he makes two passes and the game slowed down for him and he was the dominant QB that it looked like he was going to be all along.

I was hoping that drive that got us to the 5 yard line last week vs Ark would have been that for Kodi...but that didn't work out so well.

9:58 PM
Blogger Taylor said...

here's an interesting situation. everyone weigh in your thoughts

id be in favor of (if TPTB end up forcing tubbs out) TT taking the AD job, and bringing whomever in to coach. i think TT would be a hell of an AD

9:58 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

crudup...It is hard to watch all the college games and see that most of the schools can actually throw and catch, but I will also say that these teams are not playing in the SEC. Defense in the SEC is king, and it can make average offenses look really really exposed.

9:59 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I was amazed in 2003 that USC and GT ran stunts against our offensive line and nobody adjusted to it.

That proves you can't be OC and the OL coach at the same time.

9:59 PM

There's a new version of the slant, called the slope, that defenses are running in the PAC 10 this year. It's not quite as successful as its predecessor. But it's not bad.

crudup,

I think it matters, it just doesnt deserve the attention people give it. You look at Bama's sucess this year, most of the players came from Shula recruits (Wilson, Caldwell, Smith, McLain, Coffee, Upchruch) I just dont like hearing 50 year old men spending rent money for a recruting service talking about how many 'stars' someone has. I mean Auburn 'won' the recruitig war in 2007 and from that class, it is already known that at least 12 will never play for Auburn.

Example: Sen Derrick Marks Top 20NFL Pick - 2 star, Jerrel 'Doesnt Like to hit' Harris - 5 star.

You can bring examples like these going each way for every team.

10:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Taylor, that's my vision. Tubs steps down. Health problems. He's had a ton of neck pain, surgeries, etc. His back is in old fella shape. He's tired. He doesn't like getting out on the road anymore like he used to.

So, he pulls the ultimate and takes Jay's job. I couldn't ask for a better end to the last laugh campaign.

10:01 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Saying our OL hadn't thought about blocking a slant was like Franklin saying "sometimes I forget they can bring more people than you have lined up to block."

How do you not think of that?

10:02 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Taylor, TT would be a hell of an AD, but I guarantee you that he will never be the AD at Auburn. TPTB want him removed of all power, and I can promise you that Tubs would never become a puppet, which is the number one requirement of Auburn AD. The only time we didn't have a puppet was when Mike Lude was AD, and that was all because of the NCAA penalties. It take too long for Lude to be ran off and Housel take over.

First of all...thanks for the Ring of Fire prop.......probably not warranted in my case(not enough posts or quick wit like the other members).

Kodi's footwork would automatically get better if he would turn his shoulders to face downfield rather than throw with his chest facing down field. He typically turns his shoulders on long throws, but not on short throws. Kodi's short throws resemble a girl throwing darts. He also does't understand that you use a lot of wrist for long passes and much less on short passes (unless you are Brett Farve). Joe Namath had a noodle arm, yet used his wrist to get velocity.

It's cool PF.

Catch you all later.

Don't forget to tune in Saturday at 9:30 to the GRIDIRON BREAKDOWN where me and The Plauwlauw breakdown the big games of the weekend.

We've got SEC, Big 10, ACC, Big 12, and NFL games this week. We even talk about the SEC vs. Big 12 vs. Every other conference.

Thanks for your support.

Anybody else see that throw from Gabe Gross just now? Par for the course for Auburn quaterbacks these days..Couldve sworn he had a 12 on his jersey.

Everett, I thought when I saw that throw that it reminded me of his (short) career as AU's QB.

He's usually much better though.

I follow all day and nothing. The wife is out of town and I have homework duty. What happens, like 150 phreakin posts.

Anyway, Auburn is in good hands this weekend. I expect a blowout.

Seriously, until we get Tate running from the I formation, I see virtually no improvement. I think we pulled the trigger a little early on the spread. It will take time.

Next year everyone will be better.

The days of Gabe Gross and Jeff Klein..Now, that was a tough time to be an Auburn fan. Of course, I was more concerned with where the party was gonna be after the game

From Jay's original post...speaking of Mazzone and the 2001 Peach Bowl.

What about that offensive game plan to focus on Julius Peppers? We focused on him so much, that Ryan Simms dominated the game and became a 1st round pick and an NFL bust all off of one game.

Simms should be sending royalty checks to Noel for making him so much money.

That should be a pretty good game tonight. SYL QB is a freak athlete, and the Wood is solid everywhere.

Do you use our IP addresses or just our names? I logged in as anonymous until a few weeks ago?

But, as Mark, I logged in last week, from Destin, Atlanta, work and home.

I'll keep plugging away and hopefully get to the warmth sometime.
