Tuberville speaks
Hey everyone. I thought there were be some news coming out today regarding Barrett Trotter, but I was wrong. He wasn't available for interviews. So let's take a look what was said today.
- Tuberville said Barrett Trotter has accepted the idea of playing this season and (allegedly*) worked with the varsity today: ``He's practicing. We're going to see what he can do. We'll make a decision Sunday of who's going to be our No. 2 guy. We're not going to play (Trotter) as a third-team quarterback. He'd have to be the second-team guy."
("allegedly*" = Brad Lester said he didn't know much about Trotter because he hasn't seen him in practice. Yet we know Lester participated fully today. I have no idea what to think there.) - So how will the rotation work at quarterback?: "It will depend on what Kodi does, how well he plays, how much better. Second-team quarterbacks don't play a whole lot. But if (Trotter) moves up to second-team, obviously, we'll think about playing him. If we do play him, he'll get more than just a normal second-team quarterback. We'll play that by ear as we go along."
(If you're confused about what that means, join the club.) - I asked Tuberville if he and the offensive coaches sat down for a powwow to sort out their strategic hodgepodge: "You've got to have an identity of what you want to do. We're still going to run the spread. What are you going to do from that? A lot of teams do different things. We have to figure out what are best it, the best things. It's not a lot. It's something you can work on consistently for the next seven or eight weeks left for five games. Once we get to that identity, we're going to look at some things this week and once we start Sunday, we're going to be full-forward on that."
- Injury update: Jerraud Powers was running on the side. Tuberville said Robert Dunn's "ankle" injury is healed, but the senior was held out of interviews ostensibly because of injury. Antoine Carter is still in a boot (a big one) and didn't practice.

Huh?
Jay G., do you need a Tylenol or two on days like these?
Just wondering...
Jay:
Anything from CPR?
Rhoads talked mostly about beating West Virginia while at Pitt last season.
I taped most of his comments and will supply them to you after I take a short lunch break ...
Why burn Trotter's redshirt if he is going to serve as the backup? Hasn't Tuberville learned his lesson about alternating QBs?
I made a pre-emptive strike today: Took two Advil before I left the house.
Has Tuberville learned?
No.
It sounds like CTT is wanting an option if the offense sputters with Burns. I think he tried to put Todd in as a spark last game and it turned into just the opposite. My guess is Trotter will play.
Smart move to head that off at the pass.
How bad must Caudle be and what has he been doing the past 2-3 years. If he is that bad why does he have a scholarship?
I would like reitterate that I dont think trotter is the answer. Third string fellas. There was a reason for that. Are you telling me that CTT and the other offensive coaches dont know what this kid can do already?! Kodi is the answer in my opinion. Put'em out there..leave'em out there and let's see what happens. Now I am fickle so if they put trotter in and he turns into a world beater then I may sing another tune but if that is the case...then it makes it that much more frustrating that Todd was EVER out there.
Caudle hurt a knee his senior year.
Then, I think he hurt another one.
Then, a shoulder.
Then, he threw a bunch of INTs in the Spring and Summer.
wartiger, I think the chances of Trotter being a difference maker are somewhere between slim and none. Look at that mess of an answer about how they're going to gameplan for the rest of the season. Now read it in Miss Teen South Carolina's voice. It just fits, doesn't it?
At this point, they're throwing s**t against the wall and hoping something sticks. What a mess.
More of the same. Grasping at straws. SSDD.
I echo hip's observation.
SSDD
sheesh
It's no different than the normal Tuberville-cryptic spin to me.
So I guess after reading Tubs comments on the offense is it safe to assume these coaches have absolutely NO clue what's going on and they are willing to settle on a losing season?
"I personally believe that U.S. Americans don't know how to play offense because we don't have offense. We're going to play offense against west virginia and the georgia and other schools, such as."
-Tommy in Miss South Carolina voice
Tuberville says he wants us to do what we are best at and IMHO we are best atLINING UP IN THE I & RUNNING THE DANG BALL, but he insists on running the spread. If we line up in the I for the rest of the season we could win 3 of the last 5, at least. Why is Tuberville so freaking hard headed?
I have tried to convince myself otherwise but I think CTT already knows it is over. Look at his comments, listen to the players thoughts and I can't think of any other answer.
Caudle has had both knees surgically repaired. Mobility is a big question mark with him. Very knowledgable kid but not the most healthy. Tubs has decided now to live or die with the spread it looks like. Without a consistent passing QB I think it is walking out on a gang plank and hoping for the best. The defense is to beat up right now to bail him out like before.
Fellas, I also think his words may be a play just to keep the recruits we have. It's not above Tommy to say something he doesn't entirely believe (I know, I know. How could I say something like that? Pessimist I guess). Anyway, I think it is entirely possible we will hire a spread guy or a traditional guy, and Tommy doesn't know which one it is at this point. Either way, in his eyes he gains nothing by fully abandoning the spread right now, because all that will do is lose some recruits.
I saw throw caution to the wind, we got two weeks to re-install some more prosets, simple stuff with play acton passes then lets just line up adn run the DAMN BALL right at them!!!!!
Jay,
By any chance did you hear Doug on the Round Table talking about Tubs and AU coming to a mutual agreement on him leaving before the end of the season?
A fellow beat writer just metioned to me what Amos said.
I haven't heard that ... and I think I'd know.
FYI: I'm splicing and encoding video as we speak. Video up around 2:50 p.m.
blah blah blah...offensive identity...blah blah...what we're best at...blah blah blah...we're gonna stick with it...blah blah blah...moving forward
*sigh*
Jay,
Are you suspicious about Robert Dunn's injury? I noticed you put quotes around ankle.
Not sure what to tell you about Robert Dunn.
He's healthy, yet we can't talk to him because he's not healthy. Makes no sense.
Jay:
Hearing lots of chatter here in B'ham about Tubs and Auburn parting ways?
I don't buy it. At all.
I know Tub has always been in spin mode when doing interviews...but hasn't it gotten a bit insane lately compared to the past?
I'd love for someone to actually read his quotes back to him a day or two later and get his reactions.
It's thicker now than usual, but there are a lot of problems to talk around.
It is unbelievable we are in the QB situation we are in given that Cox was there for 7 years. Pathetic recruiting and/or coaching. Tommy needs to answer to that and he better keep Cotton.
Yes, because we all know that QB Raymond Cotton is going to be savior of the team.
This guy's hype is reaching Julio levels...quickly.
Hey Jay. Jerry over at the Joe Cribbs Car Wash mentions you in his blog post today. Basically arguing about whether or not CTT is in that much trouble and your reference to Tommy Bowden.
"(I'm being a little unnecessarily snarky in on Jay's direction here, but I suspect he can take it these days; to judge by his comment totals and Uncle Verne name-dropping, he's emerged to fill the "go-to Auburn MSM blogger" vacancy left by Philip Marshall's departure. Congrats are probably in order.)"
Don't know if he is the savior or not but it looks like he can complete a pass. Maybe he can bring some of his receivers as well since they seem to be able to catch his passes.
Jay,
Dont fret the haters. Anyway, I think waaaaaaaaaaay too many people are trying to rain down similarities in what Bowden did and what Tubbs will do. Yes, they have both been there ten years and have had rough years. But i dont forsee Tubbs going anywhere "this" year.
Now next year we should have everybody back, if we can find a qb and fix the offense then we should be fine, but if we lose next year with all that talent, then he should look at the classifieds, like bowden has.
This year I have written off, the spread, has screwed us , you just dont get over it after half way thru the season, i think its infected the teams minds and spirits, so its awash in my mind. I dont expect much the next few games.
Should I know what "MSM" means in that context?
I figured it was some blogger/media code? According to wiki it means mainstream media. I guess as to differentiate you from the blogs written by Auburn fans as opposed to actually being a professional journalist/beat writer.
MSM= Montgomery Sports Media, duh!...actually, I'm just guessing...I'm pretty sure there was a compliment/shoutout in there. Not sure where, but the general tone felt like it.
Jay:
I have avoided the blogs and the written/televised media coverage of Auburn football like the plague in years gone by primarily because I did not feel that an Auburn fan could get a fair shake in the state of Alabama. I friend and fellow grad in Montgomery turned me on to your blog this summer and I have to hand it to you for giving folks like me a place to get my info and dialogue with other Auburn folks. You are a class act and deliver the info timely, professionally and more importantlyly straightforward and to the point. You have even allowed us an internet shoulder to cry on (for lack of a better term) during this difficult time. Now that I have buttered you up, do you think that Auburn University has accomplished enough in the college football world to expect more than what Tubbs has brought us during his tenure? I know we don't have the natl championships of bama, notre dame, so. cal and the like; but we aren't Ole Miss (no disrespect) either.
Jay:
I'm going to ask you this question because you haven't ducked a single one thrown at you that I have noticed:
In your opinion, what are the odds of the following three things happening after this seasion?
1) Tuberville is back at Auburn for the 2009 season as Head Coach.
2) Tuberville is at another school for the 2009 season as Head Coach.
3) Tuberville is enjoying semi-retirement in the 2009 season.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
