All we have are the embers

Thanks for another wildly successful campfire.

We discussed many issues important to the HABOTN nation like Carnell Williams' knee ligaments, the real stars at Ole Miss, morning tailgates, Tony Franklin's feelings about fingernail hygiene and other stuff.

It's always a gas.

Talk with you all tomorrow.

How are campfires wildly successful? Is having a conversation about everything in a nightclub that's way too loud and crowded successful? Same principle.

If anyone cares, I missed the campfire because I had a very important kickball game to play. No, I am not kidding. It's the most fun I've had since Auburn beat Alabama last season. I am bringing my mojo with me this weekend for the game. I will be staying in Montgomery Friday night so if you hear a slight mur-mur or buzz, it's me in Montgomery suiting up! Let's do this guys! WaaaaaaaaaRRRRRRRR......

Sorry I missed the campfire, but I have a good suggestion. We need a beat Georgia pep rally. It would have to be held tomorrow night and everyone attending should be required to predict Auburn winning. People knock a distorted view of reality. I prefer to embrace it.

New front page quote should be:

That's wonderful stuff.

Campfires are too hot for me; I'm too old and slow to keep up.

But to change the subject, AU needs to somehow get the law changed for our last 2 games. We've been under Murphy's Law the whole season - anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Here's our new one: Yhprum's Law

>>>Yhprum's Law is the opposite of Murphy's Law (Yhprum = Murphy backwards).

The simple formula of Yhprum's Law is: "Everything, that can work, will work."

Due to Richard Zeckhauser, a professor for political economy at Harvard University: "Sometimes systems that should not work, work nevertheless."<<<

I love that quote! So from now on, our fumbles will bounce back into our hands, the interceptions we throw will be dropped by the other team, busted plays will result in first downs, and foolish gambles will pay off.

Just a possibility to brighten your morning. :)

hey Eddie - you still think I can find tickets tomorrow?

I hate that I missed it, but I actually get the NFL network so I got to watch Bill Bellicheck whipe his nose on his sleeve about 15 times.

Coosa- Trust me. Easy Tickets. It was all I could do to get my wife to go with me. If she hadn't, I would have had an extra ticket. It is a below face value ticket right now. I think $40-$50 per ticket at most will be about the going price for decent lower level seats.

Tim- No one forces you to join the campfire madness or post on here. WE really enjoy what Jay does and he gets nothing in the way of financial backing to spend the amount of time he does here. You may have not meant for your comments to read like they do, but please, we are all here to have a good time and talk Auburn sports to whats on TV.

Tomorrow could be the dream of a lot of people who were posting two months ago. The starting backfield could be Burns and Wario.

7:18 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Steve- To Honor Your request, here is my matchup rankings:

QB- Advantage Auburn- Nobody likes a protypical QB like Stafford who all he does is lead his team to victories and leads one of the most successful offenses in the SEC where as Kodi Burns is the X factor. You can't count Kodi for anything but pure should shruggin joy. Advantage has to be Auburn.

RB- Advantage Auburn- Knowshon who? Surely he is all hype where as Ben Tate / Fanin / Davis is the real deal. Stats prove themselves.

WR- Advantage Auburn- AJ Greene and Massaqoui could not hold Slaughter's and Smith's jock strap.

TE- Advantage Auburn- Trott much better than any person named Figgins.

OL- Push- Both sucky.

DL- Advanatage Auburn- Carter/Doolittle/Marks/Goggans beats the smallish front of all the no named Georgians.

LB- Advantage Auburn- Bynes/Stevens and a clubed Merril Johnson is much better than anything the bulldogs could drudge up on their campus. Nobody stays home and plays gap assignments like our LB's.

DB- Advantage Auburn- Powers is all-american, even if he is on one leg and crutches. I feel that the tigers will cover the slants and drags this week. After being exposed for 5 weeks in a row, they are ready.

PK- Huge Advantage Auburn- Byrum has ice veins, he is good from 80+, but lets just keep him backed up instead of these simple 30 yarders.

KR- Advantage Auburn- Davis is the man.

With all this being said, it won't even be a game. Auburn wins 56-(-14).

Steve, I hope this answers your request.

Yepp, Coosa, Signed, sealed & delivered.

Mr. S- I believe the OC stack of resumes is from every position coach who wants to be an OC. I doubt there is any real OC's sending their resumes, but who knows, that might be how he got Borges. I will say this, everytime we hire someone I'm disappointed with, it works out well, ala Petrino and Borges (at least for 2 years).

I agree Eddie. I think Tubs will have to bring in an unknown (with maybe another asst.) in the next entry into the saga of Auburn offense.

8:42 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Clawson at UT never got a chance. This might sound familiar, but they didn't have the people to run his offense and Fulmer always has the final say in everything.

The reason UT's offense never looks any different for the past decade is because for the most part Fulmer makes all the play calls. He never handed the offense over.

8:45 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

RK- how did cutcliff last so long with Fulmer?

8:48 AM
Blogger michael said...

UT's offense didn't work because it was too complicated. Fulmer didn't meddle in it, he is hands off like Tubs. The O coordinator was used to working with Ivy League style players. In the amount of time he had to work with these SEC players, he hasn't been able to get them to understand it all.

8:55 AM
Blogger michael said...

also, the players don't fear or respect clausen. They feared and respected Cutcliffe. Once again, the coach is probably not used to dealing with these kinds of players.

8:56 AM
Blogger AUfan said...

Who is Lee-Scott's OC? Maybe he has impressed Tubs with his offensive know-how. And the coaches could go visit on the cheap in the off-season for pointers.

Maybe we could get Dave Clawson. He's coached in the SEC and with a veteren coach. Just saying...

Cutcliff and Fulmer were on the same page offensively. Cut was never overly dynamic except when he had Manning.

UT has pretty much ran the same offense for 20 years. Conservative, running the ball/short passing game to set up the occasional deep ball. UT just always had better coached WR's who could make the deep ball work and stretch the short pass into longer ones.

9:40 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

As any one at UT if Fulmer was hands off with the offense, even when Cut was there.

9:55 AM

Print out a handicap hanging tag on your color printer and park in a handicapped spot.

9:58 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

eddie, thanks, now it appears someone gets it. We will obviously win this game.

As for Tennessee's offense, it is historically similar to us in the conservative sense. I expect us to finally open up the playbook against Georgia and give them some things to think about. We shall no longer just hand off to the tailback from the I-formation. We will occasionally hand off to the fullback. There is no way Georgia could anticipate this coming.

10:00 AM
Blogger michael said...

Their offense wasn't very conservative against us. They were doing crazy things like throwing the ball into the stands on 3rd and 1. God bless that UT offense.

EDDIE, IF WE'RE UP LATE IN THE GAME I WANT TO SEE YOU ON THE HD BOARD DOING THE DANCE. CRANK THAT!

10:26 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I do think we need to come up with a unique game plan for the last two games. I have come up with two unique plans that could shake things up.

For the UGA game, we could have more people signaling in the plays. I am thinking we could possibly use the student section for this. With that many people signaling in plays, there is no way UGA could figure out who was giving the correct signal.

As for Bama, I have a more devious scheme. At the end of the second quarter, we play Rammer Jammer and hope that in hearing that, the Bama players assume the game is over and don't show up for the second half.

You see, there is plenty that can be done to give us a shot to win. The coaches just need to think outside the box.

10:26 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Scottie- I'll be dancing like Verne Lunquist if we are up late.

Georgia Plan- Play Crank Dat the whole game and wear Black Jerseys.

Alabama- Play the elephant evertime we get a first down.

10:50 AM
Blogger Mark said...

I think handing off to the tail back on the same play 15-20 times in a row is our best bet tomorrow. There is no way UGA would anticipate this. We would catch them off guard.

Chinese water torture them.

10:50 AM
Blogger ADP said...

I think we should even tell them first, just to rub it in.

10:51 AM
Blogger KJtiger said...

Maybe we can simplify our offense even more and run the notre dame box or the wing t. That will show them. I can guarantee they will never expect that. We could also make like a UGA home game for them and play crank dat every time we get 3 yrds kind of like UT with rocky top.

I enjoy Game Day in Auburn so much that I am just going to savor the last one of the year cause it's gonna be a looooong time til next fall. Well, the rain seems to be getting here more slowly than they thought. So there may be some showers still lingering in the morning. Should be gone by game time tho with only a 10% chance at kickoff.

The temperature will drop after the rain moves through leaving mostly cloudy skies and a high of about 55 degrees with the wind from the west northwest at 15 mph.

Lots of good ideas posted since I was here earlier. Some of them a bit wild; I like to stay grounded in reality myself when making suggestions and predictions on AU football.

Looked at the weather forecast and it looks great for tomorrow - cold with a 25mph NW wind. That wind will wreck havoc on Stafford's accurate passes. And since we can't throw any accurate passes, it will have no effect on us. Actually, it might help us. If the pass is thrown so that it wouldn't get to the receiver, as most of our passes are, then there is the chance that the wind blows it to the receiver. So we will have a chance to complete deep passes while GA has no chance at all. Of course, in order to complete a deep pass that means one of our receivers would have to catch it; might be harder to figure out how that can happen.

12:52 PM

Solid Coosa.

Wartiger- I expect a decent crowd for Auburn, but I expect it to be the least attended Auburn/Georgia game that I have ever seen.
