Tuberville press conference -- LIVE
Check back here around 1:02 p.m. for a live blog from Tommy Tuberville's press conference.
HERE WE GO ...
HERE WE GO ...
- Opening comment: "Our players had a very good practice today. We had quite a few guys out. I won't go into all of them. We hope to have most of them back by the end of the week."
- "We have improved. We've gotten better. Hopefully, it will show on Saturday."
- On Lee Ziemba saying the OL isn't tough enough: "Last year, we weren't quite as physical as we were last year. It'll all work itself out with all the practices we have coming up."
- Tuberville said Ziemba has been hurt "all year."
- Adversity: "Hopefully, they're learning about (adversity) -- how to combat it. Good leaders are built from within, not without. They have to believe in the values of what they're doing."
- Antonio Coleman, Sen'Derrick Marks, Tez Doolittle, Rod Smith and Jerraud Powers didn't practice today.
- On the offense expanding: "We expanded a lot last week. You can only go the speed the quarterback can take. Kodi is a smart young man, but that was his second start. We've added some things. It's mostly formations. Those formations are what gives you problems on the defensive side of the ball."
- On Chris Slaughter: "He's a very good zone receiver because he can get in the creases."
- Team still cares?: "They're still practicing hard. There's a lot of pride."
- Splitting carries is hurting rhythm: "We'd love to have run one running back more. We haven't been able to do that because of injuries. The consistency hasn't been there. You'd like to see one of them step up and get 20, 25 carries."
- How important is this game?: "They need to have something good happen to them. We need to have the ball bounce to us. It's been one of those years when the ball rolls away from us."
- On Fulmer getting run: "It's tough. It's part of the business. Good friend. It's hard to imagine being part of a program for 35 years. We've become very good friends during the past 15 years."
- On coaches getting run in mid-season: "You see a little more of that lately. That's just part of it, I guess. I've known each one of them. You feel for them. We're all in the same business."
- What he wants out of a new offensive coordinator: "I've had a chance to watch a few games. I've watched what's going on the NFL. The NFL is struggling to find good quarterbacks. (Says something about how college teams don't use drop-back offenses anymore.) I've got a stack of resumes I've gotten. I won't look at them until the end of the season. We're not going to change much; we're still going to be multiple."
- Said he'll evaluate Auburn assistants at the end of the season. He said recruiting will be the No. 1 element.
- He said Rod Smith's injury "isn't responding well."
- On Walt McFadden's injury against Ole Miss: "That scared (Harry Adams) more than anybody."
- Neiko Thorpe practiced today. That's three weeks out from a high-ankle sprain. "We'd like to get him out there because he was doing really well."

Jay,
Got an opinion you're willing to share on Phillip Marshall's article yesterday?
"Don't Dream I'm Over" (to the tune of Don't Dream It's Over)
I’ve won here before, I’ll win here again
As long as Lowder keeps the jet on the tarmac
There’s 3 games ahead, we’ll probably lose at least 2
But it’s not the end of the road
Cause you know I don’t want to leave
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream I’m over
Hey now, hey now
Even though the team is a mess
I’ll win, I’ll win
Don’t build a wall between us
Even though a BCS we’ll never win
Now I’ll hire one new guy, to fix a hole on the field
Try to keep the defense from playing 2/3 of the game
You know I’m twice the Auburn man than any of you
Cause I will win more than I lose in most years
I’ll get Auburn back up again
We’ll win 8, 9, or 10 games
That should be good enough for you if it is for me
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream I’m over
Hey now, hey now
Even though the team is a mess
I’ll win, I’ll win
Don’t build a wall between us
Even though a BCS we’ll never win
Tubs telling players he is leaving at the end of the year???? Please say yes!!!
I concur with P-Mizzle's column ... at least the part that says Auburn should make its intentions known.
Crowded House ... my favorite band from New Zealand.
Way to bring the heat CC! Destro and Serpentor got nothin' on ya.
hurt all year huh? so he really does have a head injury thats why he cant remember the snap count.
Mr. S, in response to your Q from last Thread
If Tubs goes it obviously depends on the hire...say what you will, but Lowder has done a good job in his last three selections.
If Tubs stays, he will need to go back to what he know best and I dont even know if he knows what that is anymore....the last 12 months have just been so surreal...so not that good.
I get deja vu when people put the same post in two different threads. I say "whoa" like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix.
Or Point Break. Or Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Or every movie he has ever done.
Yeah, the man doesn't have a whole lot of range, but he is resourceful. If I could make a few million not changing my facial expressions and saying "whoa," then I'd sure as heck do it.
I've got a stack of resumes I've gotten. I won't look at them until the end of the season.
I'm going to assume this is one of those fluff comments and that if someone were in that literal or figurative stack of resumes that was a great catch he'd grab 'em.
It's funny how he talked about the coaches who were let go mid season in a detached way. Ya know...like he didn't do the letting go. ha ha (that's how I read it - Jay correct me if I've assumed wrong)
Hmmm, we had another good practice. I am shocked. Maybe we need to have more crappy practices and save the good stuff for game day.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn later that Tuberville has let some people go.
Today, Jay?
Ziemba has been hurt "all year."
Are you sure that's not an incorrect quote? I think he probably said "Ziemba has been hurting us all year".
Hey Hotties! Long time, first time. I noticed the "We're getting better" mantra is still in full effect. It reminds me of the end of Dubose's tenure when all he could say each week was "tremendous challenge but a tremendous opportunity".
Hogan ... don't forget "poise and maturity."
Kristina: Nah, not today. Someday in the not-too-distant future like, say, after the Iron Bowl? I'm just free associating.
HABOTN UPDATE:
*Aiming to get a video up around 2:45.
*My goal is to get a campfire started around 4. The Daughter has a soccer game at 6:15, which means I gotta be out of here by 5:15. Still, let's try to make that happen.
Well if that's the case wouldn't you think the odds are he stays?
I'm glad to see that Tubs got my resume. I'll be waiting for the call back.
rk....that sounds like the correct quote
rk i meant yours!!
What are the rules of free association? Because I decided to do free association with the word "association" and the phrase "Rankinbar and Associates" came to mind. Really, the phrase "and associates" came first and then I thought of a fictional name that might have associates. Anyway, is "associates" too close to "association" to be considered free association?
oh, and War Eagle.
why would someone accept the OC job unless he knew who the HC is going to be?
Does he mean he's evaluating his asst. Coaches by their recruiting ability? If so I guess we can forget about Knox getting the boot.
I would pretty much put the RK fortune & rapidly evaporating 401K on this. If Tub doesn't make staff changes, including letting go/moving Greg Knox from his role, he won't be the head coach at Auburn next year.
My advice: Get Hugh Nall and Greg Knox in your Coaches Who Will Be Gone pool.
I remember hearing from a local booster here in Mobile when this staff took over, "they call Knox Hoover, because he sucks up committments". I remember getting excited but, honestly, can anyone name the major commits he's brought us? I'm not saying he can't recruit but I just don't remember him distinguishing himself in that area. You don't see him on those surveys of the best recruiters in the league.
I know most of you do not Finebaum but he did make some good points in his article today. Here is the one paragraph that stands out to me...
However, in spite of the obvious (six straight wins over Alabama), there are still some chillingly disturbing aspects of Tuberville's 14 years as a head football coach (four at Ole Miss and nearly 10 at Auburn) that tell a different story.
This 2008 campaign will mark the 11th time as a head coach Tuberville will have lost at least four games and the seventh time he will have lost five or more. It will be the fourth time at Auburn he will have lost at least five. Do five losses count for being a bad year in your book?
Jay....do you think that if Tubs makes it past the off week that he will be back next year? IMO, if they are going to make a move at the top, it will be done then.
Jay, I figured I should move this here from Facebook. If not you can yank it down.
I was doing some logo work for a contract and in the process saw a font that inspired a HOTTIE moment. Just a couple of tshirt ideas.
Tshirt idea 1
Tshirt idea 2
Mon...
Do you have that in the "wife beater" variety?
TIA,
FSJ
For you or me?
Both...
:-)
Actually, I need the tank top variety to go with my jorts.....
I will not help perpetuate a jorts crime. But a nice unisex, tone on tone t in design number 1...that would be perfect for our resident bammer and other non Auburn lovers.
LOL!
Jorts crime...
monica....I like them both...can we sell them and put the money toward keeping Jay's job?
That's a great idea, WEG.
I'm having visions of bake sales, car washes and a Jay G. Tate Telethon.
why does everyone keep commenting on how skinny and bad tubby looks? Is there really something wrong or is he just sick to his stomach over his mistake?
Hey J, this is off topic, but do you ever have a problem w/your wireless adapter on rockband? I just bought rockband 2 and sometimes the adapter for the drum loses it signal.
On the bright side, it looks like he hired Mitt Romney's hair person.
I wondered the same thing, WEG. I didn't think he was looking so bad.
Mitt is nicely coiffed.
If need be. I work for a company that sells an Applicant Tracking System that could help eliminate the "stack of resumes" he has on his desk.
We are going paperless people!! I don't hug the trees but can try and save some
Just sayin'
Hmmmm
war eagle girl,
Who is this everybody that is saying he looks ill?
Sounds like an al.com message board rumor type thing.
I used the wired controllers from Rock Band 1, so I can't help you on wireless problems.
I had a fella email me about this a few days ago. If you're not that dude, sounds like we have a class-action suit on our hands.
Sue! Sue! Sue!
I think the video will be available a shade before 3.
Tommy looked tired today.
Everybody looks tired at times. I haven't noticed an overall change in him.
I'd say Gran and James Willis are the two best recruiters AU has. a lot of Knox's recruits have been busts IMO.
This is pure speculation on my part however. I think Knox's biggest disappointments have been the highly-touted WR's who have had zero impact - Tim Hawthorne, Sgt. Slaughter, and Terrell Zachery were all "4-star" recruits and with the exception of Slaughter's game agains ole misses, none have produced yet.
most of the talking heads...finebaum...john...etc
it seems to be a recurring theme
or maybe I've just noticed it
Video up.
I keep away from Finebaum for the most part, so I guess I'm in the dark on that.
I'm not that dude. I'm a dude disguised as a dude playing another dude. I think I'm gonna buy that dang usb hub that is around 20 bucks. Maybe that will help.
I dare not listen to anything that Finebaum says. He's not a journalist so much as he is rabble rouser. His comments about Tubs and having loss five times seven different seasons speaks to this I think. Four of those seasons came at Ole Miss and did a great job considering their probation problems. Then there are three at Auburn, and I doubt anyone will begrudge him the six losses in 1999.
2003 and this year are certainly disappointing, but it happens. As for the 4four loss statement, when we now play twelve games instead of eleven, four losses is much more common. I mean, the national champ last year lost two games. Even including this year, 46-14 since 2004 is pretty darn good and he deserves the chance to correct things from this year. Finebaum is a joke.
Why would Tuberville not look at OC resumes until the end of the season? Is that just more coachspeak?
