Sweet Cyclone Irony
Hey everyone. This is why I love sports -- there's always something weird happening.
Paul Rhoads, the Tigers' defensive coordinator in 2008, has been hired at Iowa State as its head coach. He replaced Gene Chizik, who was hired as Auburn's head coach on Dec. 14.
"Paul Rhoads is an outstanding and intelligent football coach, a highly successful national recruiter and has nearly 10 years of experience as a BCS coordinator," Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard said in a statement on Saturday. "He was the one candidate that clearly demonstrated both extensive experience and an extreme passion for and familiarity with our institution. In addition, and most importantly, he also has a comprehensive plan for how to be successful at Iowa State."No mention of a "blueprint," though, which may put him a step behind Chizik.
He had a blueprint.

there is some irony there.
"As the world turns so do the jobs of our coaches..."
This is such a soap opera

Wow!
Talk about landing on your feet like a CAT.....
I wish CPR well, i hope he doesn't need CPR after his first season at ISU....
Jay G, i have plenty of blueprints, i could send some of different house, restraurant, schools, office buildings plans I have available......
Maybe you could learn a little something from Chizik's blueprints.
They're worth $2 million/year.
How much are yours worth?
did his plan have a step two?
Wish I had a $2 million/year blueprint....
Step 1: Have a blueprint.
step 2: Win football games.
Very interesting. I read last night where someone thought Terry Bowden was being considered for the Iowa State job. This is even more ironic. Rhoads, your job, now that you have accepted it, win more than two games in a football season.
So Turner Gill must not have been a good "fit"...
I wonder who ISU's Charles Barkley is and how much run he'll get on ESPN?
Sorry.... Congrats to CPR! I wish him the best of luck at ISU.
Paul Rhodes loves it when a plan comes together.
At another school this might be a shocking turn of events. At AU, it just seems normal. Maybe he will hire Tony Franklin as OC.
In a bit of further irony, Rhoads is from Iowa and a former assistant at Iowa State.
I would also like to start a campaign to get depressedAUfan a new nick. Something snappy like bipolarAUfan or psychoticAUfan might just do it.
Jay G.
Why you hating on my blueprints?....
You can get them for the low low price of $99.99, a bargan just under $100.00, hahahahaha
I wish mines were worth $2 million.... i could resign like CTT......
Didn't see that one coming.
ISU=Mission Impossible.....
CPR= Ethan Hunt
Bet he doesn't have all those cool spy toys.....
Jay G.
I want to apologize for the HOTTIE post overrun last night!!!!!
It was Monica's fault.... she wore her Wonder Woman Outfit and made all the other HOTTIES tell the truth!!!
That's my story and i'm sticking to it!
Hey, the Eagle Bank Bowl is on!!! Navy vs Wake Forest.
for people who were so happy to get rid of chizik they sure didn't upgrade upgrade in my opinion. At least we got a hell of a D coordinator and paul rhoads is average in my mind.
depressedAUfan and SteveFC the optimist- twins separated at birth.
Hotties
Remeber when CTB was head coach of AU and all the UAT fans refered to him as "Tatter Tot"?
Well i am officially giving CNS the name "Simon Bar Sinister"
Damn I just saw Underdog with kids and I almost died laughing when I notice he reminded me of CNS!
Any comments
Ron,
Believe me they wanted to keep CGC, that was the stupidity of the fans/media thinking they are on equal footing as OU/ Texas.... and not relizing that they are not!
The Truth Hurts ISU....
Always, Always know your limitations and what you can and cannot do!!!!
Hoopie, I thought winning football games was step 3.
That's awesome! lol cracks me up!
I don't think posting a link to a birmingham interview here would be prudent would it? I mean is that in the "competition" category? I'm not sure. It's a good interview (print and video) with Clint Moseley, 2009 Mr Football. It's from November.
Scottie - How was your fancy party?
Wake Forest, one of the better teams in the ACC, is behind in their game against Navy. It is 13-7. Their win against Vandy got them in the bowl game.
Morning Mon.
How are you? I slept like a baby....
Another interesting thing is it looks like both teams are wearing white in this game. Actually Wake Forest is wearing a very light gold uniform. It just looks weird.
Morning Mobile - I bet you did! I'm going to email you this article until I get the ok from Jay to post or not post it on the blog.
oops i mean Wonder Woman....
Wheres the linky Mon... i want to read adn see a future Tiger QB!
ok send it to me Mon.
Hey did you hear about CPR the new Iowa State HC?
Yes, I read it on the blog! That's a hoot. Jay is right. Never a dull moment.
Mon.
I guess if we took their coach they wanted one of ours...
Nah, nah, nah, nah, naw, nah.
So what do you think of Mr. Clint Moseley now?
I'm cool with linking to interviews ... as long as the original publication gets credit.
What I don't understand is how does a kid do this and he's not attracting more offers? I mean now that he's been named Mr. Football it will be different, but I don't get it.
"Moseley's 8,413 career passing yards rank fifth in AHSAA history and his 79 touchdown passes rank seventh. He also finished his career on a 25-game winning streak with three straight state championships."
OK, thanks, Jay.
This is from the Birmingham News as you'll see when you hit the link. It's from November and be sure to go to the bottom for the video interview with Moseley and his coach.
Alabama's Mr. Football 2008
Monica,
I always thought he would be a great steal for AU ig Ray Cotton falls apart.... do you think that has happened? YES
We can get this kid and i think his upside and potential is off the freaking chart....
I think he will jump at the scholly offer from AU as soon as he gets it.... i think next week he gets the official offer....
Mon.
I need you help, i'm not the best at posting links like you just did without the http://www....etc. showing up
How is it done?
well i have to run out and do some errands.... see you HOTTIES later
Monica, just email me instructions dear.
Holla!!!
PEACE Y
Did we trade Chizik for Rhoades, Daniel Cobb, and Chris Todd?

Really interesting take on changes La Gessee sees in Chizik sense coming back to Auburn.
By Bobby La Gessee
Posted on gocyclones.com
Is that Chizik?
I agree, Mobile. This kid looks interesting for sure. Only now Greg and I are going to have to arm wrestle for him!
I'll email you the link instructions.
sense = since
AUnMobile, it is hard to post examples of how to post links because they show up as links. I think this might work.
<a href="http://www.habotn.com/">Link To Habotn</a>
Monica,
Its amazing when you get somewher you feel comfortable the difference it makes with you attitude and outward apperance....
Mon, Tell Greg he's ours leave'em alone!
Monica, thanks for posting a link to a very interesting article about Chizik. I find it very strange how the guy thinks Chizik seems more comfortable at Auburn than he was at Iowa State. That kind of baffles me. I didn't think he would unclench his butt cheeks until after the next Iron Bowl.
SteveFC,
Mon sent me the instructs, thank you guys.... i felt so inadaquate cuz i didnt know how to do it....
the HOTTIES are the Bomb!
What's a "grey shirt"?
ok guys,
im gonna try a test:
ISU hires Rhodes
Mon,
A "grey shirt" is when the Coach wants a recruit to enroll and pay his own way for one year until the next when he can cout against the next years recruiting class.
Greyshirt player works out with the team but doesn't practice, thus preserving all eligibility. You could greyshirt one year then redshirt the next then be a 6th year senior. Usually only walk-ons greyshirt.
Do you think Rhoads got the job with a flashy Powerpoint production? Blueprints are so 1990's. Get with it, everyone.
Nice work on the link, Mobile.
Thanks for the grey shirt info. Someone on the Bunker said don't be surprised when Moseley takes a bama grey shirt over an Auburn full ride. (thought you'd like that Faker)
Michael - You trend setter.
So who thinks Rhoads first order of business will be to bring in a spread guru at Iowa State?
Thanks Mon.
No way this kid take a grey shirt..... why would he do that.....he would be buried 3 deep at qb at bama and he can compete next year at Auburn... that does not make any sense....
Typical Bammer, thinks everyone wants to play for "Simon Bar Sinister" geeze!
ok im gone guys....
Have a good day everyone....
Peace, Love and Souuuuuuuuuuuuulllllllllllllllllll Traaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnn!

Than was for you Mon!
the fancy party was pretty nice. jim beam was a popular guy. too popular.

ESPN is running the story of Buffalo and the year they turned down their only bowl game. It is a wonderful story.
thats crazy...good luck to CPR.
Jay you gonna watch AU @ UVA today? do you think they can come out with a win?
This comment has been removed by the author.
So is that the rumor now, the kid from Leroy wants to go to UAT to polish Star's cleats instead of coming to AU?
Anyone have knowledge on UVA's b-ball team. How bout you Jay G...scouting report?
I read the ISU article that "doesn't recognize" the new Chizik.
The author claims that, contrary to the Chizik bio put out by AU, Chizik DIDN'T play for Florida in 1981. Is AU wrong or ISU wrong?
Wikipedia has him playing Linebacker one year at FL in 1981, for what that is worth.
Jay G, a plan is as good as a blueprint to a blind man, know what I me, know what I mean.
Sporting news has the same dates for Chizik as Wikipedia.
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=497323
I was looking at the 2002 U of Florida games notes and Auburn has Greg Knox listed as 'recruiting coordinator' in addition to his WR duties. I now understand why there was a dearth of talent after the 04 season. At least not the type of talent that was on the 04 team.
Speaking of recruiting, I was going over some lists of prior recruiting classes. Can anyone tell me what happened to these guys?
Freddie Smooth
Tim Lamb
Bo Harris
Wilfred Journet
Bryant Miller
Just curious as to where these guys are. It's amazing how excited we are for a week or two around signing day, then they fall off the face of the planet.
depressedAUfan said: At another school this might be a shocking turn of events. At AU, it just seems normal. Maybe he will hire Tony Franklin as OC.
If we also vote for quotes for the front page, I cast my vote for this one! Classic, depresssedAUfan! :-)
Smooth is in Junior college. Don't know about Lamb. Bo flunked out of AU, don't know where he went. Journet quit Copiah Lincoln JC so I doubt he is eligible. AU is no longer recruiting him. Don't know about the last guy

Thanks sponge.
Denny, Knox was known as a good recruiter. Actually, his recruiting ability probably kept him on the staff.
Nice win by the bball team...lucky!
Good win for AU basketball today. They squeaked by, but its still a W!
Zebo, zebo, War Damn Lebo!
Kick 'Em in the Butt, Big Blue!
any win over an ACC team is a good win.
Ole Miss became beatable the other night when Chris Warren blew out his knee ... i would say Alabama is teetering emotionally.
i got to watch the mens bkb game today. we had a 12-13 point lead at one point early in the 2nd half. UVA eventually took the lead with a couple minutes to play.
Reed had a HUGE three to take a 2-point lead then blocked a UVA shot in the closing seconds to secure the win.
it feels like forever since i got to watch us win a bkb game on tv. it was nice. :)
It looks like we may lose Gran to Tennessee. I do hope Chizik knows what he is doing.
Just a little something to think about..... maybe money was an issue after all. Maybe we traded CPR for CGC instead of either school having to pay out a contract. I think we got the short end of the stick on this deal, but, he will have my support.
Steve FC... I hope someone over there knows what is going on.
These JC players are great for shoring up a weak spot, but, we still need to have a good recruiting class. Are we using the same search firm out of Fl to find us a OC/DC. I sure hope not.
Chizik should be fine, but he better have a staff in hand. We are losing the best coaches we had and so far we have no clue on who will replace them. As for Chizik, I think he was a good hire and it appears that Rhoads actually was a good fit for Iowa State. With the absence of any big name coaches being available, Chizik was probably the best choice.
Hello Hotties,
Missed the entire day but there is still humor when I return..
Paul Rhodes-Good Coach-Bad Coach---who knows, he wasn't around long enough for anyone to know!!
Steve FC thinks it a good FIT.
My man JET.... wants to talk B-Ball
Is anyone in the X-Mas Spirit??
Am I the only one feeling the love for mon and au-mobile??
I like it, I love it I want some more of it!!
Shout out to JG!!
If Gran goes to Tennessee, then maybe their best running backs will stand on the sideline while the 4th best will play because he can block better.
So, we're back in it with Dre Kirkpatrik.
I'm liking Chizik more and more...
I've been preaching energy for months ... it's what we've been missing.
Like ol' Albert Einstein said:
E = mc2
Energy = Mucho Chizzle squared!
Keep hope alive Monica...
;-)
I knew that would draw Faker out.
:-)
Are we back in it with Dre??? I thought he had a top 5 and we weren't one. Has that changed?
Good Evening Hotties!
mon, are we back in it with DK? As in really back in it, or he's tossing us a sympathy glance?
I would think with Chiznik's rep for developing DB's (3 Thorpe award winners), that it would be a great selling point to DK. I never understood why Tubs refused to recruit the guy.
Did Chiz visit with the WR, Kelly, while he was in Gadsden?
Yes, that has changed. I'll email you the article.
mdaniel, Rhoads was a proven DC before he ever got to Auburn. He was a very good, although I don't know if as good as Chizik. He may have been better than Muschamp.
BigCat - I sent you the article via Facebook.
D. Miller email me at monica_wareagle@yahoo.com and I'll send you the article on Dre. Your email isn't on your profile so I can't just send it.
Dre will wear Crimson..
Y'all have a chance with Kendall Kelly.
Not sure if Chizzle's been to see Tana Patrick at North Jackson. Feel certain that Phillip Lolley has. He was coach there before coming to AU, and is much beloved.
But as we know there's a lot of UAT cash in the area.
You gotta receipt for that purchase, FSJ?
I am very curious to see if Chizik will be able to pick up a few recruits we weren't suppose to get. If that happens, I will be very impressed.
lol @ Jet
I don't think Chiz & Co. have visited Tana yet. I read that they have called, but as of the 17th no visit that I've read about.
Truth is, there's is no receipt ... they're just running up a tab in Gadsden.
No receipt needed....
:-)
Above someone mentioned Gran deciding to have our best runningback in the game at the end against Georgia instead of Fannin. It was a judgement call. Fannin was having a hot day but he also had tended to make more mistakes, for instance running the wrong way against WV. If you can judge better than the runningbacks coach, you should probably be the runningbacks coach.
I didn't specifically mention the Georgia game ... I had the G Tech game in mind with Tre Smith on the field.
I don't have a problem with TAte on the field on the final possession vs. UGA, but Fannin should have been on for the next to last.
IT's plowed ground ... he needs a new place to coach. Hope he gets a job.
Thanks for the article Monica. It is amazing Auburn had that many people show up at the kids house. That is practically the entire recruiting staff at this point, but for a guy that is suppose to be that good, it is probably worth it.
Since Kirkpatrick is a DB, Auburn would make pretty good sense for him. We always have one of the better defenses in the nation.
I think we need a name hire at the OC spot to get these kids to believe the offense will turn around.
I presume Searels gets locked up quickly ... no need for interviews unless the deal is about to be cut.
I'm guessing Scott LInehan maybe the OC ... STacy may be AHC.
I think Rodney is less likely.
Jet, that Georgia Tech game was a different story. Tre was the best back we had at the time. Who knew that Irons would come along so quickly and that Tre would basically fall apart. Remember, Tre was the elephant killer. I can't really fault Gran there. It was the first game of the season. I was seriously disappointed with how Tre seemed to lose his interest in football or something. I am not quite sure what it was, but his head didn't seem to be in the games that season.
No problem, Steve.
I was trying to imagine them seating that entire crew in their family room. Too funny.
Anyone who wants the article just email me. I just can't post the whole thing here on the blog as I know from experience the Rivals/Scouts police are lurking. :-)
Garner is a long shot since I saw him quoted that he isn't going anywhere.
Steve, love ya, bro, but I ain't buying what you're selling ... let's find something else to debate.
I know Tuberville did similar things, like having the entire coaching staff just about show up at a kids house. I think he did that with Caddy. I could understand that then, but it is even more shocking now with the limited staff and time. Chizik must believe he has a really shot.
Monica, imagine the clowns spilling out the car ... that's the coaching staff at a recruiting visit.
Gran was Tuberville's boy. He wasn't staying. We need harmony right now anyway.
Steve, that is correct in re Carnell.
Mon,
I sent you an e-mail....
I thought I had fixed my profile, but apparently I need to try again...
Jet, what makes you think Scott Linehan is a possibility. I know little about him although I believe he is an NFL OC and former HC.
Jim, I do agree about the harmony thing. That is why I wish we had an OC in place to fill out the offensive staff.
No problem at all, D. Just let me know if you receive my return email. I got a funky error when I sent it.
By the way, I read something the other day that Dye said. He talked with Jacobs twice during the hiring process, once at the start and once the day before he hired Chizik. From what Dye said, I believe he honestly didn't influence the decision. There was just too much detail there. If you are lying, you don't give a lot of detail.
I also read that Chizik wants Dye hanging around and even at practices. I find this kind of bizarre. Dye said that he doesn't intend to be because it makes things more frustrating.
I do hope that Chizik's idea of a head coach isn't coaching by consensus. In my opinion it is more important to have a coach that makes firm decisions and sticks with them, than one that is always seeking someone's approval.
Has anyone heard who might be the other position coaches?
Does Joe Whitt stay on?
Does Craig come back to be QB coach?
wtc, we could actually end up with dual Joe Whitts, senior and junior. Both have been mentioned.
Somehow I don't think Willis will be around. If that was going to happen we would have heard something sooner and he would be on the recruiting trail.
As for Craig, who knows? I haven't heard a lot of talk about him, so I wouldn't expect it.
As for Kirkpatrick, it could happen. I know FSJ doesn't believe so, but stranger things have happened. Emitt Smith was considered an Auburn lock until right at the end.
I think Jr. will be on the field ... Sr. will be nearby a la Jimmy Perry, etc.
Dameyune may be in the mix as WR coach, but Shayne Wasden may be more likely.
do you guys think they will come on board next week since recruiting is dead? Maybe Wasden happens after the Troy game.
I haven't heard of the NFL guy mentioned. Who is he with?
There is the potential problem I see with Coach Dye around and many of his former assistants being hired. If there are issues on the staff between the assistants and Chizik, who do the assistants go to with their problems?
If they go to Dye and he tries to intervene, there could be disasterous results. It would undermine Chizik and show weakness in his ability to lead.
I just don't like the idea of a guy who hasn't coached a game in 16 years being that involved. I will take my beatings now for criticizing Coach Dye.
I just read where Papa Bowden had suggested Terry for the HC position at Iowa State. That would have been very interesting. It seems that over the last couple of years Terry has been itching to get back into coaching.
There was also crap in the article comparing Terry's firing with Tuberville's. Both had one bad season and were gone, but there is a huge difference. Terry Bowden sucked the talent right out of the Auburn team. He left a mess behind.
Linehan was the Rams' head coach ... fired earlier this year ... had been Dolphins' OC before that.
Think he had worked for Saban down there.
Just got back from a family gathering and most of them had their UAT shirts on. Never saw them for thepast few years, but all they wanted to talk was fball. couldn't find 'em in the past but now they want to tell me what is wrong with AU.
It was best to eat and leave.
I agree with you Jim. I think Dye can be some benefit to the program as long as he keeps things in perspective and understands his role.
Anybody watching the Ravens/Cowboys game?
Only Mike Shula could make Leron McClain a second team FB...
Amazing.
Jim ... there will be greater problems than that if there are staff problems ... they'll all get clipped.
wtc, I feel for you. There is really not much to describe in terms of what is wrong with Auburn. An inept offense caused by a lack of chemistry between the offensive coaches and the OC followed by a change in offense at mid season along with a lot of injuries just made for a bad season.
Overall, I feel pretty good about this Auburn program and we will be back in the hunt next season. In terms of talent, I think we have it. A lot will be dependent upon the coaching staff, primarily the OC.
Steve, I think we will be much better than most are expecting. The players we have did not all of sudden forget how to play. The offensive woes caused so many problems for us. I was surprised at how close we kept several of the games when making a 1st down became a major goal most of the time.
Got it Mon...thanks! I also go the profile fixed to show my email addy for future purposes...
Immutable facts:
Bammer relatives are the worst.
Auburn plays its best when expectations are low. (I'd like to change this one .. for once, I want to run from the front and stay out there.)
One of the things I will be looking for with Chizik is how he handles team discipline. It is one of the things I loved about Tuberville. We didn't have a lot of high profile incidents with players after his first couple of years, and when something happened, the player usually sat out more games than I have seen at most schools. That reduces the player issues.
We will need some depth on the offensive line and the tackle spots on defense. Another runningback or two would also help. Other than that, I think we look pretty solid for next season.
Oh, almost forgot. We need to get our FG kicker a vision exam.
I also liked the discipline of Tubbs. My only fault with him was the CEO type of management. I just prefer a hands on approach. some can win with it and that is fine. I actually like that GC is out recruiting and letting the recruits see him and letting him tell his story. May not be the most efficient way, but it may work for him.
I'm with you Jet. I hate when I hear Auburn fans say that they would rather start under the radar. I want to start #1 every year. We should never sell ourselves short.
When GC had the team meeting and Trott seemed to be the front man for comments, I was wondering why he was excited (or at least came across that way) GC saying Au would return to hard nosed offense. Trott hates blocking. He never liked the run heavy offense.
Anybody else get that from the interview?
I've noticed that Trott hates catching the ball in games.
Count me in with the group that doesn't like the ubderdog role. That means you are supposed to lose and usually you do. If you are not the lead dog, the view is always the same. I want the target on our back. I want win and win often. Is that too much to ask?
I think he has been as unimpressive as Hawthorne.
I think Tommy needs a demanding coach ... make him grow up ... he's talented enough
So is there a pool of coaches from which Auburn, Iowa State, and Texas must choose from? Was there some under the table deal I don't know about? And why do I feel like we are getting third pick?
Trott doesn't seem to catch a ball unless the odds are less than 30% that he will catch it. I'm hoping winter and Louis will come around next year.
Kodi has a pro arm, he has to have some fundamental discipline and some yoga classes. I got laughed at when i mentioned that early in the year but he needs some help with his footwork and balance, yoga could help him with both, especially his bad feet.
drugs are bad mkay
BinOBA, a lot of Kodi's issues seem to be with decision making. As the season wore on he seemed to do better. I just think he needed to be brought along slower and the decision making in the Franklin system wasn't suited for a QB not use to that. That is why Todd was the better choice early. When we went to power ball it was plain that Kodi was the better choice, although I don't think it mattered. Todd's arm seemed to be done anyway. We were just stuck in a tough situation. Todd had the knowledge of the offense, but Kodi had the athletic ability. I think he will be much improved when he gets a coordinator that can mold an offense to his abilities. I don't think Franklin would do that. I have no reason to believe Kodi can't learn any system, but having everything thrown at him would overwhelm a lot of QBs. The key to the spread offense is good decision making by the QB.
Steve,
Kodi's decision making in the Alabama game was awful. He did better a couple of games later in the season, but against Bama he was afraid to throw the ball more than 5 yards down field.
Along with wtc sentiments,
Having been part of a program that people always get fired up for, I can say that this underdog role is for the birds. Oh, sure every once and a while, it is nice to win a game you are not supposed to or beat a team that is favored slightly over you. But I would much prefer to be the team that is the 'big' game of the year for its opponents. The team that gives a sense of dread to its upcoming opponent with the very thought of having to play it. I would rather be a team that when you play someone, that other team knows that if they make a mistake, no matter how small, it could not only cost them the game, but it will cost them huge. I want Auburn to be that type of team. A team that never relents, that never 'takes its foot off the gas; that never 'is pretty vanilla out there' to make excuses for lackluster play. I want Auburn to be the team that bludgeons people into submission. A team that always attacks and is aggressive with its play calling whether it is the first quarter or the fourth quarter. If Auburn becomes this type of team, the only thing predictable about it will be that it will bring the pain and force our will on other teams to play how we want to play.
We don't need brand new offenses and defenses. We need boldness. Please don't confuse boldness with gambling. This idea of a riverboat gambler to me means less about boldness and more about a rash decision.
Denny Crum...here here!
Denny Crum, isn't that what we all want? Does Chizik have what it takes to develop a program like that? And, more importantly, will the PTB have the patience for the time that is needed in order to build that kind of program?
Today is a good day to hire some assistants!
So, it sounds like Denny isn't for the kinder gentler Auburn that wins through compassion?
Actually, I suppose I am a bit more simple minded. I want a team that I like to watch. I don't really get that excited about counting trophies as I do watching exciting football games. Along with this goes a desire to have a team that is prepared and plays as a team.
I don't know if Chizik is the man to do what I would want or not. Time will tell.
I don't mind exciting games, however, when we play teams like UT-Martin, the only thing exciting should be watching second and third teamers score on big plays.
I like the way you think Denny Crum. We need bad mofos out there, period. All these "hurt" guys, that's BS. I hope CGC gets an UAT uniform or three and if you are hurt, here is what you wear out to practice, a crimson tide uni. I'm ready for some chuck bednarik and gene lipscomb badarseness out there. Mental toughness and a will that is tempered so you can endure pain or any other setback (fumbles, i'm lookin at the rb's). I'm talkin bout punishing people on BOTH sides of the ball. Thank god we will be recruiting a FB again, jeebus, what was tubs thinkin with the spread? I want pain and blood and sweat and tears and ugly FB's and 200 yards rushing and the counter tre and the veer and the 2 te set inside the 20's and BLITZES from the defense. Oh, and kodi some yoga lessons or something. I agree with the decision making comments but his footwork causes him a lot of accuracy problems when throwing off balance, he needs to address the balance and footwork problems, get him a wii fit or something.
Agreed, Denny. Auburn should be so far ahead at halftime that the second and third strings can be put in for the second half.
Good afternoon, Bin. How goes it down there in Orange Beach?
What happened to the strength and conditioning coach this past season? I don't remember in the past 10 years Auburn having so many injuries. Is that the fault of the S&C coach?
THe S and C coach was getting people to play in the CTF experience.'' An experience I'd rather not have again.
Also, the defense was having to not only play more snaps, but they were constantly having to play in what I call 'crucial' situations. Crucial situations are those when you don't risk things by playing your second teamers. I mean playing more downs is one thing, but being in situations, like at the end of the TN game or the MS ST game, you have to go with your starters more. Jay G also mentioned that are big boys were about 40 pounds lighter against the D line they were supposed to block.
Yox has been great over the years. I think it was less him and more so the abortion of something we called an offense this year.
are= our
Denny, I agree that the injury issues weren't coach Yox. This all relates to the Franklin Experience. The point about not only the defense playing more snaps, but the starters having to remain in is very valid.
As for Tuberville wanting to go to the spread, I think he was right. You can see most teams in college football running some elements of the spread. The thing is, I think we chose the wrong person to implement it and probably the wrong flavor of the spread. The spread is really just a formation and the real deciding factor is the plays you run from the formation.
I still dont't think everyone bought into 100% and that's why it was such a disaster. I don't think everyone was on the same page. Unlike UA, where everyone bought into Saban's system and that's why they were so successful this past season.
That said, even though I like a lot of offense, I just don't feel that the spread is "Auburn football."

But I do like me some good defense! Two of my favorite players were Will Herring and Karlos Dansby.
It might have helped to sway our recruiting toward spread players and eased into it like penn st did. This whole "lets start from scratch" thing with the spread was stooooooooooopid. He (ctt) had no plan, lucky for him he had a huge buyout from these goons runnin things and he was able to quit or whatever happened. He looked whipped all year to me though, could almost see it drippin off him.

Spread, I, pro-set, wishbone doesn't matter as much to me.
I'm more of a toss sweep, sprint draw, play action guy, but whatever we do, let's do it well. Commit to something and see it through.
More importantly, no turtle offense in second half. As Coach Yoast said to Coach Boone in the semifinal game, "Leave no doubt."
Yes, Jet, I want them to play well next season. The offense was just completely inept this past season.

Agreed, Bin. xCTT seemed tired this past season. I only remember seeing him get really fired up once.
I read that Paterno sent his coaching staff to Texas to study their offense. I think that xCTT should have sent his staff to State College!
A gradual transition to the spread would have made more sense. I am like most people. I am not particularly tied to one offensive scheme. What I like to see is an offense that looks prepared, and this one didn't. Penalties has a lot to do with the issues early on, but I do think it is safe to say the offensive staff wasn't on the same page, and I fault the OC for that. The first priority for an OC has to be to train his staff on what he wants to see. If the staff doesn't buy in, he has to get new staff. Franklin was likely not given that option, but I am uncertain off all that went on.
Believe me, I used to be a total devotee of 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1TEs (or 2 TEs and 1 WR), but at the pro level and the HS level it's getting away from that.
We used to all look for the next great RB ... seems now the game changers are at WR ... that's why I wasn't upset about the change to the spread ... that's what the kids are running in HS, and it's sort of what the pros are doing.
I didn't like the behavior of the staff and CTTs seemingly hands off policy on management.
I love Auburn football, so I am extremely disappointed that things got as bad as they did. I am very hopeful that Chizik can get things turned around. Like Steve and Jet, it doesn't matter to me what type of offense is run, I just want them to be able to execute and play well.
I think the key problem with our offense(for years)has been poor fundamentals. Missing blocks, dropping balls, poor route running, penalties, and bad QB mechanics. This is not a recruiting issue or scheme issue its a fundamental coaching issue. Biggest diffrence between AU and UA this season...fundamentals. Bama was the best fundamental football team in the conference. That is not something Saban did at LSU. His teams at LSU were talented and fast but they were just as sloppy as everyone else. Saban learned to be a good fundamental coach in the NFL. Want to know another good fundamental coach...Butch Davis. The theme, if you want to return to good fundamental offense than hire an NFL O- coordinator or QB coach for the OC job. Last time we did that we hired a QB coach from Jacksonville...Bobby Petrino. Schemes and talent only matter if you can coach them. My pick for OC Bill Musgrave QB coach Atlanta.
Yeah jet, i feel like his leadership diminished a lil more each of the past few years. We became conservative and predictable with no real over the top opportunity at wr for quite a while now. Cox's accuracy made ctt and co. look like a braintrust.
Don't get me wrong, i like me some offense. I just don't know where the leadership has been at the qb spot. I think that was what turned me on to CTG so much (tommy frasier and eric crouch's names did too). I'm hoping we can get a guy who can develop a qb but also let him grow, it's been a while since we had an "assertive" qb playing at AU. That coupled with a power running game really opens up the offense. We really gotta make a good hire at OC.
That is a good call on Musgrave, will.
Guruwill, do you think Chizik is even looking to the NFL?
I have no idea where Chizik is looking honestly, I dont think anybody does.
Jay will Frankie be back for tonight's game?
