Tuberville out
That's a wrap on coach Tommy Tuberville's 10-year reign at Auburn.
He's meeting with assistant coach Eddie Gran and other associates at this moment in Gran's office. I'll post more as it becomes available.

Other stuff:
- Players' meeting is at 6 p.m. Many players are walking around and asking about the situation. Most seem calm. I saw a few that were pretty doggone upset. Don't ask; I won't name names.
- Still waiting on an official announcement.

I would like to remind everyone that the same feelings of dispair were present in 1998. Less than 2 years later we were in the SECCG. The right coach can turn this thing around. (i.e. Saban, Richt, Meyer, Nutt)
Chris,
Here's the link to their call in show. Sportscall is the show based out of Auburn hosted by Bill Cameron. Both hosts sounded like they believed and I really thought she sounded legitimate...that's just me though
http://sportscallonline.com/radio/
SABANIZED!
Think about it. What a plan. Signs extension guaranteeing that he would get 6 million.
Hires Nut.
Recruits 20 5'9" 170 pound guys.
Installs spread without a QB.
Forgets to train WRs.
Tells Nut to play a guy that can't run spread.
Fires Nut.
Plays guy that can only run.
Refuses to play good Running backs.
Says everything is okay.
Going out to recruit. (why, you already have 26 commitments)
Gets fired
Collects 6 million.
Spends next few years with kids enjoying their high school years.
AUsome plan Tommy. It worked.
Why is no one talking about Chris Peterson anymore? The guy is only like 35-3 in his career as a head coach. He is offensive minded, and hands on. He also has the same amount of BCS experience as Tuberville does. I think after this year, going undefeated, and possibly not being able to go to a BCS game he would be reason enough to leave. Plus Auburn can pay him triple his current salary and still be paying him less than Tubs.
Just win..I dont believe that for a second. That was leaked. How can reports come out while CTT and JJ are still in meetings?
I really don't want willis to be retained. I am not sure that he is a lilly white clean as everyone would like to think he is!
do tell biscuit
This is a serious black eye on Auburn. We are going to look like just as big of idiots as Bama did with the Mike Price thing. We have to hire a big name coach, because on a national scale, Tuberville is viewed as a very successful coach. This will also be very negative in terms of attempting to hire another coach. Why coach see that one bad season can get you canned and the competition Tuberville is facing, I think we will have trouble attracting a top notch coach.
This will be complicated by the bumbling way the firing occurred. It looks like it is time for a change at the AD level. This was handled like crap.
Lets be brutally honest, most new hires dont work, a very small % actually show improvement. I just dont see who we hire at this point. Unless we throw $$ millions at some one and steal them in the middle of the night. I am baffled. Jay Jacobs = absurd
Exactly what I'm saying, something is leaked, the bloggers (other than JGT) and sports talk guys run with it, therefore not allowing the proper protocol to be followed
tigerfan44 what I've heard is some rumor and innuendo backed up by some facts that I have seen. However, until I have more proof I would not care to partake in rumor spreading. I am just saying that I am not as sold on Willis due to some stuff that I have seen and heard. That's it!
Lets not forget Auburn's last 3 hires have done rather well
Nightmare scenario = Tubby and crew head to Starkville, come here next year and win....only at Auburn.
biscuit any coaches you want to keep.
if tuberville goes to miss st.- we will have the worst coach in the SEC next year
already taking a beating nationally on this decision...Is Pat Dye available?
New post up.
nunca
Jim turning things around aint what the 'happy' fans want. Even tehy'll admit that CTT was good for 8-9 win seasons. They want 10+ win seasons, SECCs, and NCs. What coach on the market is about to come to Auburn, Alabama recruit against Saban, Richt, and Meyer and win like that? We have officially taken ourselves our of the hunt for the next several years.
One thing is certain. Recession has not made as far south as Auburn. Make that 2 things tickets going up.
since we are all ringing our hands of this let me ask what is the best way to get rid of a 10 year head coach? There is now easy way to make a change unless CTT retired on his on accord. I know everyone is reminisent of the good time but there is no good way to make a change.

There are much better ways to make a change than this.
I do not think the jays kept him in meetings to string him along. Maybe it was something that evolved over these meetings. Maybe jay asked tubby if he had in in the tank to turn it around. Tubby said I do not know let me sleep on it. Went home talked to his wife and decided he was done. Just as plausible as anything else I've heard.
And if that were the case, you seriously believe that he would not have informed his staff? Many who have been with him for years?? You're reaching KJ
I haven't read all 8 million comments to know whether or not I'm stealing anybody's thunder but........AL DEL GRECO IS THE KING OF SCOOOOOP!
Maybe it was a fluid situation. My point is it could of easily happened this way than everyone thinking the worst about AU. Maybe he came up with it mid day and did not have time to run it by his staff.
AUBigCat,
Is that what we should strive for? 8 wins a season. That is what you get with Tuberville. That is not good enough for me.
I think someone else could do better. There is no way to know that yet, but I do know what you get with Tuberville.
2 wins for every 3 games. 67%
Eddie Gran?
Eddie Freaking Gran?
Have you seen our special teams play?
Do you know who was responsible for keeping Mario Fannin on the bench the last 10 minutes of the Georgia game?
Eddie Gran should be executed without benefit of clergy.
Jim let me tell you what else you get with CTT: Outstanding defense regardless of the DC, good running back play, players that dont go to jail, a program not being scrutinized by the NCAA, players that graduate, and a winning program that owned it's biggest rival.
Regardless of the next hire those are might big shoes to fill. funny how we usually dont see it until it's time to fill them (i.e. Borges).
And not beating a dead horse, but no way B Cameron lets that woman on the air unless he KNOWS she is who she claimed to be. Bill knows people around the program and is a real pro, so I have no doubt she was legit. Now, should she be on the air? Don't know about that one.
Look at the other sites, our great rec. class is de committing fast!!!!!
Once again Auburn is know coast to coast for being real stupid.....

Thanks Jay.
I do not think this was the wrong decision. After a downhill trend, followed by a disastrous season you decide to go in a different direction. It's coaching and it happens. Sometimes it's just time for a change.
I think they offered to let Tuberville stay provided he made staffing changes. He did not want to do that a la Mike Shula and the decision was made to make a change.
I wish Coach Tuberville luck and thank him for the 10 years he's given Auburn.
Great post Jkev. We were paying coaches a heck of a lot a year to get the results we were getting. To me, games where the team didn't show up such as the 34-14 bowl game whupping by Wisconsin are disrespectful to the fans who buy the tickets and merchandise.
"And if that were the case, you seriously believe that he would not have informed his staff? Many who have been with him for years?? "
AUBigCat,
I think it entirely possible that Tuberville told them to go on their recruiting trips and that he'd be able to smooth things over like he always has, only this time he couldn't. They had to know things were tenuous unless they were in complete denial.
