Auburn adds another commitment
Hey everyone. Sorry I'm a bit late on this particular commitment.
Our friends at AuburnSports.com report that Leroy quarterback Clint Moseley, a three-star recruit, has committed to play football at Auburn next season. Moseley was on an official visit to Arkansas State this weekend.
He picked Auburn over ASU, UAB, South Alabama and Marshall.
NOTE: I'll be interested to see how this affects the Tigers' efforts to land Raymond Cotton.

I don't want it, but I'm here...
Weird deal here with Moseley. Not sure why they're doing this. Barrett Trotter hasn't yet played his first college snap and Kodi Burns has two years left and Auburn still is working to land Raymond Cotton and Tyrik Rollison.
It's reasonable to infer, then, that Auburn isn't expecting to land either of those two QB prospects listed above.
and didn't we off a grey shirt to the QB out of Daphne as well?...
I will be interested in seeing where Cotton lands and how his father does or doesn't figure in his career long term.
Yea that's what I think too Jay. I sure hope Mr. Football has the goods for the next level.
That kid from Daphne wasn't recruited as a QB. He played QB in high school.
Those competing offers were not very impressive.
Also, Neal McCready (now a Rivals.com ace) says Ole Miss hasn't been paying attention to Moseley ... as has been inferred in other places.
I wonder what prompted this move.
Jay GT, have you heard why Petey Smith isn't visiting next weekend. I heard he had canceled.
Moseley looks like he's about 30 lbs away from seeing the field as an SEC QB.
I for one am very happy with the Moseley commitment. Cotton is a very talented kid, but the baggage that he brings with the dad is not worth it. With Moseley said to be a life long Alabama fan...I'm thinking he'll play his heart out and play with a chip on his shoulder to prove the Bammers wrong.
As I understand it, Petey Smith's stock has fallen (for reasons that aren't clear to me) and he may or may not have a legit offer in hand.
So his status is kinda unclear.
Why do people have such an issue with involved parents? Its the kids with absent parents that bring baggage.
i thought petey was the real deal...whatve you heard jay?
That's surprising news about Petey. I haven't heard anything.
I agree BigCat - I defended Mr. Cotton earlier this year saying he had the right to protect his child and his child's best interest. However, after reading more and more it seems to me that Mr. Cotton crosses a line into a stage mother/living vicariously through my child sort of parent. Obviously, this is 100% conjecture on my part.
I agree Big Cat. I don't have a problem with involved parents.
Reading the comments made by Demond Washington, sounds to me like he needs to move away to stay out of trouble. He kept referring to the trouble he can get into at home.
Involved Parents are not the problem. It's the Parents that think they should have some kind of say in how the program is run. Always in the best interest of the child. Cotton's father seems to me to be THAT guy.
hotties:
please do yourselves a favor and check our Robert "DunnCity" Dunn's musical flows
http://www.imeem.com/guapent/music/aHJW7ixp/dunncity_goose_and_patron/
jay, this deserves a post of its' own.
beautiful.
Did Cotton's dad go to Ole Miss on his official visit there?
I guess I havent read enough comments by Cotton Sr to have any red flags. I sure hate that it looks like we lost him. Nothing against Moseley but this commit feels like the consolation prize
BigCat,
I don't have anything against parents looking out for their kids, but from what I have read about Cotton's dad, Monica is correct, he has crossed the line.
Maybe Coach Malzahn saw something he liked with this kid....This is what AL.Com said about his O-Style the last 2 years under Coach Powell.
"Powell decided to install the spread, running a hybrid version that included some of the I-formation in 2006 before going to a full-fledged four-wide spread formation in 2007."
dunncity
Potty mouth
youre right. it cracked me up though
I know you like it, but I'm gon' make you love it
Not quite my style, but better than Lsu's Byrd's dance skills.
Evening, Hotties!
Has everybody thawed out?
Is there anything new on Tray Blackmon?
Robert is good - You just have to like his kind of music and I do.
Good evening Mom. I forgot about the Blackmon rumor. I haven't heard anything else.
Sponge here. How are the hotties? I for one don't blame Cottons dad. Looking at AU implode on the field and on the coaching staff should make anyone nervous about sending their son off to that college. I for one don't think getting or losing Cotton is that big of a deal. He's a kid w/ physical skills, but a project as well. Probably two years away from contributing. I think Trotter has big potential
I don't think Cotton was going to make or break this year's recruitment.
Kathy, are you part of the Steelers-Ravens audience or just concentrating on Auburn football?
It's a process, aight. And it starts with the coaching staff. We've gotten a late start this year. Hopefully next year will be a lot better. I don't think this staff will be outworked.
Blackmon leaving school hoping for CFL contract. Has to support three kids and wife.
What's the deal w/ Petey Smith. I thought he had a good week in one of those all star games.
I'm watching the game Mom. Any chance to watch football, I'm there!
Does anyone have the latest news on Cameron Kenney??? Is he still committed?
I don't know about Kenny. UGA making a big push for him. He's from Georgia as well. I'd be suprised if we keep him.
Tray's not enrolled in school, so it would definitely be hard to come back now. I think those rumors were just wishful thinking. I really think he would have benefitted from another year, but he had to do what he thought was best for his family.
No word on Kenney. He went to Oklahoma this weekend and was very excited about making that trip.
Monica. Keep your eyes open for the first of April. I think developments in the next month and a half have potential to help AU, and hurt the infidels tremendously.
Some days it is hard to remember that the athletes are really in their late teens, early twenties.
You can't blame Blackmon for trying to take care of his family even if you think he would have been better off financially if he would have been able to wait a year.
Since there is only one football game left in the season, I'm not missing anything!
Sponge, are your innuendos for Monica only, or can you share with the rest of us?
Kathy. Just interesting on how the infidels coaches are leaving, lateral moves. No coincidence. Judgement day will come. Don't doubt that the head coach can recruit. Don't doubt that he can really recruit w/ the proper help.
I keep hearing teases that there is something up with Bama's recruiting... is that what you are talking about Sponge?
AU mom,we should know for sure, I believe in less that 60 days. Lots of smoke usually means fire.
Sponge you have sparked my interest in that comment as well.
I thought it was because Saban was so difficult to work for. Now I do believe that their boosters would do anything to help their cause.
Occasionally, I tempt football karma and sneak at peek at the Dark Side's forums. Even they are beginning to question why so many assistant coaches are taking laterals.
Steelers score!
can't believe somebody couldn't get ahold of that hair
The REC is alive and well.
Sure would be nice to have linebackers at AU with those kind of instincts.
No doubt Sponge!
Scary hit.
booooom. What a hit.
Ouch. I believe I felt that hit.
Good. He's moving.
That reminded me of the hit Junior Rosegreen put on that Georgia wideout at AU. That guy didn't play for two or three more games. Don't want to see anyone hurt
Clean hit. Off the subject, but I'm glad Rhodes didn't stay on at AU. Our defense looked a little soft. We need to get back to sloberknocking hits. We need to make wideouts wary of the middle of the field.
He's moving his arms. I think he got knocked unconcience. (sp)
I agree with you Sponge. I would like to see a more attacking defense.
Re: McGehee- he's in good hands. Awesome hospitals in the 'burgh.
I didn't realize I was holding my breath until McGehee was on the stretcher. I hope he's okay.
A good evening to all the Hotties. Jay, thanks for all the great info today and this weekend. I haven't had much chance to read lately, but I'm about caught up now.
Just got to address what Sponge said - here's is good, solid info that you can trust. Heard it tonight from a guy who drives a potato chip truck for a living. One of his clients is a big time bammer who runs a Dairy Delite. The bammer says that they are about to go down on NCAA violations that will be far worse than their previous troubles. He didn't know anything about the who, what, when, where or why, but who cares anyway? Just so bammer goes down, right?
That's all that I know, but a story from characters with those kind of connections just has to be true. :)
What kind of pass was that?
It was good to see the Pittsburgh fans cheering on and wishing good luck to Mcgahee as they took him off the field. I can think of a couple teams where I don't think that would happen.
Philly would have booed him.
Aumom, that was my main example.
Ballgame.
I can't say that I have enjoyed this football year very much but now that it is almost over, I will miss it.
Coosa. You heard it from a Charles Chip man? LOL. I have far better sources. my guy sells used cars! Just kidding of course. Time will tell. you know the story. the ncaa got so mad at Kentucky, they put Louiville on probation!
Louisville... Sorry, fat fingers
You just wrote it the way it is pronounced... Louavul
Moore tells Segrest that his final two are the Infidels and the Gators.
Best way to tell if anyone has visited the city was how they pronounced it.
We need to get a ruling from Denny on this.
Good ol Southern English. We could use halve the vowels and a third of the consonants
My guess with Moseley is that he is a red-shirt project. I mean, he definitely has some tools to work with. 30 lbs and a good coach and all of the sudden you have a big QB with skills. Could happen I suppose.
Pre-season Top 25 is out. Bama is #4. Florida is #1. We are not quite there.
Jet. Sorry to say. I don't think we were ever in the equation. What to think of a Tubby staff that made their reputation early on at AU by out working everyone, that a top recruit right down the road wasn't even considering the tigers. Guess he didn't have time to camp at AU!
I think if you use the 4 from Bama and the 1 from UF, then you have our pre-season ranking ... 41.
Phred, we should be good then. We are at our best when not even considered for dog catcher.
Sponge ... I was surprised we got a visit out of him.
As for Moseley ... not sure what to make of it ... can't imagine signing any other QBs.
Sponge & Coosa,
I'll believe it when I see it.
Sponge & Coosa-
I don't believe it, and won't when I see it.
Agree. Mosely just means Cotton going elsewhere. The other guy from Texas or so, well, I doubt you get a commit from someone who's never seen the campus. this staff's worth on the recruiting trail will take a year to see. A least we aren't picking our recruits only from the RSVP list of camp invitations.
Off topic. Obama's inaug to be four times in cost to any other. And the donkeys complain about the golden parachutes the CEO's take, now look. Sure wish we could kick em all out.
Anybody watching Nitro Circus.
How any of these guys are still alive I'll never know.
I'm sure the donkeys are paying for this, right? No need wasting American taxpayers dollars on such extravagance.
i've ordered my "Don't blame me. I voted for Ron Paul" bumper sticker. I'm sure it will be a hit in Chapel Hill.
THT, surely you jest. It doesn't matter who is supposed to pay. The taxpayers always seem to get stuck with the bill.
am I bad for wishing all sorts of NCAA sanctions on 'bama? I know Sponge and coosa are just jokin' around, but wouldn't that be so cool?
Tareagle. Been pretty skeptical myself for a long time. Been hearing about it for several months now. I've become a believer. I think it'll happen. If it doesn't happen by the end of April, then it won't happen. Guess we will see. I just want to be on an even playing field.
Ann Heche is expecting her second child. How? And why wasn't I told.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Who's coming next weekend?
And why am I sitting here in a bicycle helmet and my underwear?
If the infidels are cheatin' again....your dang right I want them caught. I don't live in Alabama. The few rumors I've heard came from friends in Alabama....mostly stuff rumored through the HS networks regarding the 2008 class and too far down the rumor mill to count as reliable. I've not heard anything about the NCAA snooping. Of course, I am not in position to hear such.
I decided to make a nice ice cream coke float. I forgot how good those things are.
Sponge......according to wifey, she jumped back over the fence and married a man. Then she left her husband for her male co-star on the TV sit-com "Men in Trees".
Oh yeah....not that there's anything wrong with that......lol
oh Sponge! Yum! The calories I didn't get from cereal when I was growing up came from Coke floats. I've never tried one with Diet Coke which is all I have in the house now.
Hoop. Why the confusion I wonder. Are you or aren't you? There are lots of really tough things in this world to figure out. That just doesn't seem to be one of them.
As I write this, watching the news, I see the headline, "drug bust leads to cockfight". Just too funny. Not that theres anything wrong w/ that.....
Tar. Don't do it w/ Diet coke. Too much a reminder of the guy that takes three trips through the buffet, then orders a diet coke!!!! then wonders.." uhh...uhh...uhh I just don't know why my feet hurt so much..
Having a coke float with Diet Coke is little getting called for running into the kicker ... if you're going to do it ... then rough him ... then have a Coke Float ... with Coca-Cola.
SCORE! Just found some Classic Coke in the basement fridge!!! Good thing my daughter restocked us with ice cream today when she went to the grocery store.
Good night Hotties. I'm off for a Coke float.
the NCAA doesn't hand out sanctions anymore. Reggie Bush got a house and nothing happened. I just think the NCAA looks the other way because it's too hard to police.
Try a Dr. Pepper float sometime.
Ron. That was my argument. But, I think this was good info, from connected source. A lot of coaches around the south complained. Just need to read the tea leaves. Lots of stuff goin on.
Night all. Just got waxed by my 9 yer old on the Wii. Playing Star Wars, light saber duals. Pretty fun really. Keep the faith. AU just has to take care of AU. We will.
good work on the recruiting trail today JG. it seems to me that Chizik might've gotten the feeling the Cotton's were leaning the other way. sounds like this other kid would've came to AU if he had been offered at the last minute. hmmm..... but who knows, he might become a stud. Pat White didn't really have any offers and we would've loved to have him the past 4 years.
Not trying to beat a dead horse, but did anyone hear Ensmingers' wifes' comments on sportscall after the resignation/firing? About coaches who would compete with Saban and his $100 handshakes? I doubt she got her info from a web-site. My fear is the SEC prez has no desire to hear this info. He wants no team in the SEC on probation. Which in his mind means no one could possibly be cheating.
Spongeworthy...
I'll make the same post to you that I made a few weeks ago..
It's ironic that Alabama must be cheating now because they are winning the recruiting battles, but when Tuberville was kicking Shula's rear end in recruiting it was because Tuberville and his staff were working harder...
Interesting how that happens.
A recruiting analyst says Moseley is short on physical gifts, but long on intangibles. Sounds like Kurt Warner.
Also, Michael Vick is a better pure athlete than Matt Ryan, but look at the improvement in the Falcons this year. Ryan gets more weapons focused on the bad guys and doesn't try to do it all himself.
FSJ, I don't think Alabama has to cheat to win the recruiting battles with Auburn. We're busy recruiting against the UAB's and South Alabama's of the college football world.
Steelers ----Super Bowl. they just go together, don't they?
Now i need 2 SB tickets.
GO STEELERS
I am not sure why the concern about Cotton's father. He protects his son. As for him meddling, a parent can't meddle unless the coach allows it. If CGC allows a parent to meddle, we have the wrong coach.
As for the Steelers against the Cardinals in the Super Bowl, isn't that kind of like the hammer against the nail? It was nice to see the Cardinals finally have a good season, but this Super Bowl has beat down written all over it.
Anyone have an injury update on Philip Pierre-Louis? He looked promising.
I don't think anyone gives the wife of a coach who just got fired who calls into talk radio because she's mad much credibility.
Have I ever mentioned that I hate this period of the year for college football where people droll or rip in 17 year old HS kids who have never proven themselves at the college level?
RK - I agree w/ you. As for Moseley - I'd say AU is taking a risk, but for every "5-star" recruit than never plays a down of SEC football (see Raven Gray, Greg Smith) there is an equally unheralded recruit who turns into a great player - (i.e. SenDerrick, who was a 2-star recruit with few offers - 3 years later he's an NFL early entrant and will probably go early 2nd round)
I don't see us reeling Cotton back in, nor do I see us landing Rollison.
BTW, that hit last night was hard, but the hit Junior Rosegreen laid on Reggie Brown was still one of the most violent collisions I've ever seen on a football field.
Well, good Monday to everyone that has to work. I wish I was off for MLK, but oh well. Sounds like we had a good weekend of recruiting. Expectations for this class shouldn't be high, especially getting in so late on so many players due to the change, but I have been impressed in the manner of how they have approached it and I look forward to next year's group with a full allotment of time to put together a class.
I don't know about you guys ... and I was half out of it due to a stomach bug ... but it sure looked like a I saw every vertabrae in McGahee's neck pop on that hit.
Eddie,
I agree. You can't tell what this staff will be able to do in recruiting until next year. They are behind the eight ball this year due to time constraints and some curious commitments (IMO) that Tuberville's staff accepted.
Jet:
From what I've heard, I'm glad I missed that hit....
Stacey Danley took one of the three hardest hits I can remember. I think it was against Ohio State, but I can't recall totally.
The Danley hit and the Carlo Cheattom hit on Reggie Cobb are Co-No. 1 on my hit parade.
They had to unscrew Carlo out of Cobb's midsection after the play. He went through him. It was incredible ... perfectly legal ... it was "Carlo on the Cobb."
Everybody knew what was about to happen ... except Reggie.
Jet:
I'd also add the hit that Steve Beurlein took from Bennett to my list.
He had no idea what hit him.
I think PPL is making major progress. I saw him late last week. Not limping anymore.
FSJ ...
Warning ... I don't do this often ...
complimenting UAT players.
I consider Biscuit one of the four best football players I've seen play in person.
In order ... Bo, Herschel Walker, Biscuit and Dave Rimington.
A Sporting News writer picked Auburn to finish 24th in the country next year. That's a lotta love for a program that's endured the violent hits we have.

OK Hotties, I have a request. I am looking for 3 tickets to the Auburn vs. UT women's basketball game next Sunday. I know I can get them thru the University ticket office but I'm looking for some good seats. Can anyone hook me up? You can email me at the email address on my Blogger account. Hope you guys can hook me up.
THANKS!
You mean Pat Dye can't get you good seats?
Just kidding.
I am bummed!!
But now can get back to normal.
FSJ ...
Dye had her the tickets ... but he left him in another pair of pants ... and he can't find those pants.
FSJ - The cat ate them.
On a separate note..... I read somewhere that CM Newton was in Auburn this weekend taking in the sights and sounds of Alabama's dismantling at the hands of the Tigers. I'm guessing that is not good news for the long term employment prospects for Mark Gottfried. I should send Coach Lebo a thank you note.
Short of a presidential pardon from W on his last day in office ... I would guess Gottfried is soon to be toast.
I see where Goldberg just posted CGM is going after R. Randle today. Apparently CGM wants Moseley to delay his official visit until the last weekend because he plans on having some major WR prospects there that he wants Clint to help recruit.
back to the grind...monday
Forgot to provide the link, http://blog.al.com/goldmine/2009/01/auburn_commit_clint_moseley_ha.html
THABOTN virgin here!
I read quotes last year from a college assistant that attended a combine who said certain UAT commits had nicer cars than he could afford. Most college assistants make six figures. I almost make six figures and my wife drives an aging minivan.
I was also puzzled why USC was not forced to vacate their NC from 2004since Bush was, by all accounts, a professional at the time and in 2005. Apparently you don't mess with the cashcows.
It must be a matter of who and how you give the benefits to a player. i.e. it's their 2nd cousin's car a family friend bought them that said recruit parks in his driveway and has in his possession 24/7.
No matter how lazy CTT's group got, the balance of power should not shift that dramatically as quickly as it did.
This is from Segrest's blog
Despite Moseley wanting to take his visit to The Plain this weekend, Malzahn told him to wait unitl Jan. 30, when wide receivers Bryce Brown and Kendall Kelly will be on campus.
Moseley said that Malzahn told him he'd visit Rubeun Randle Monday. Randle was reported to be visiting the Tigers Jan. 9, but then changed his mind. The News reported earlier that Randle's father doesn't believe his son is interested in Auburn. Moseley added that Malzahn will also visit Emory Blake, a wide receiver from San Antonio, Texas, who took a visit to Auburn this past weekend.
http://blog.al.com/segrest/
obviously there are some glaring mistakes in that article.
Ok..my thoughts.
Moseley, being here in Mobile I like the kid. He is a winner, has size, can play. Hell of a baseball player too. Look at the facts. The past Mr. Footballs have suceeded at a 60 to 70% rate. So you figure, he might not be Joe Montana, but he could end up being a good contributor. You just dont pass him up.
I figured Cotton was stringing us along, thats my personal view. I think signing day he would have went a different direction and we would have been without our qb for the class.
Moseley eats AJ McCarron's lunch every day ask anyone around the state. The fact that Mosely wasnt at the Alabama vs. Miss. high school game wasnt because Moseley wasnt talented it was because its a game where high school coaches pick who they want. AJ's backup for that game was a Hollingswoth kid, (UA's Gary Hollingsworths nephew) he was terrible. It was a travesty, but its a network thing.
I like the pick up. Recruits I thought we have done well so far considering we got started so late and its a transition year.
About bammers cheating, I dont get into that. Bama recruits hard plain and simple, thats Sabans thing he recruits, now coaching well, he is up there, but not a tactition, notice Florida and Utah, he didnt make adjustments, thats coaching.
Auburn I think will do better the next few years with this young staff. But it wont happen this year. It will take them a year to get up and running.
Turk - I'm with you. Saban recruits. That's it. I'm from S.Fla and hear that he is/was a real jerk when it comes to his treatment of assistants and staff. That, to me, explains why his assistants can't last more than a year or 2 with him.
I just don't get how any parent could let their kid anywhere near him.
CGC and staff seem to be doing pretty well considering the late start. Gotta feel pretty good about the future.
Morning Hotties! Happy MLK and REL days.
Sponge- the Coke float was DEElicious last night.
WARRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Saban gave Julio Jones a private jet that he flies around the country in.
Some very good posts this morning. Glad to see the pursuit is still hot and heavy on the recruits. That's something we didn't hear with the other staff. Taking the daughter shopping now, wish me luck!
Is there any truth to the rumor that HABOTN was started by the REC to distract AU fans from their daily obligations at work/home, thus increasing the general entropy of our lives whilst providing a false sense of stability by decreasing the entropy as defined by Information Theory? Just a thought.
Hotties, discuss!
TarHeel, I would if I understood all of it! LOL
BTW, I have absolutely no idea what I just said. I might as well have been speaking Russian. Speaking of which, I don't like alphabets that don't look like ours. It's hard enough figuring out a different language when traveling, but totally hopeless if they don't use the "correct" alphabet. As you've guessed, after a very busy morning, work here has slowed to a crawl. It should get real busy again in the next hour or so, so you'll be spared this gibberish.
Jay GT apparently was appalled that I was discussing entropy, so he started a new thread.
I hope the Mosely kid means AU has recinded their scholly offer to Ray Cotton. Clint, a lifelong bama fan couldn't commit to AU fast enough once the offer was extended. Regardless of the fact that Leroy High is a small school in a smaller town (heck the school is the town), all this kid has ever done is win. How many Phillip Rivers or Pat Whites need to get away before some SEC school takes a chance? As I remember immediately following the announcement that Chizik was hired at AU, the elder Cotton said something to the effect of that it was apparent to him that with this hire Auburn wasn't committed to winning and therefore his son would not be playing football there. There is nothing wrong with a man looking out for his kid, but when that person thinks they know enough about the commitment of a university such as Auburn to winning and losing then you and your kid pack up your toys and go play somewhere else. We will take the kids with heart and the desire to play for Auburn...even if they are lifelong bama fans!
