Monday chatter

Hey everyone. Thanks for tuning in Sunday. We had a great day in terms of traffic and it's clear that chasing down recruits on Sunday morning is worthwhile to the HOTTIES.

To paraphrase Brandon Moore: If you're comfortable, I'm comfortable.

I provided the newspaper-style information yesterday. Here are my bloggish insights ... coming from someone who doesn't follow recruiting most of the time.

  • John Sullen, OL from Auburn High: Very pleasant, easy-going fellow. He smiles a lot. He was very excited to have gotten his Auburn offer last week and was equally geeked about telling Gene Chizik of his plan to join the Tigers. Sullen's parents were cheery and nice. I like the whole family.

  • Anthony Gulley, WR from Brantley: Very country. I initially was surprised to see Gulley paired up with Ryan Pugh and Lee Ziemba last weekend. Then I met Gulley. He's very country. Shy kid, very quiet. He really likes baseball, too, and seems eager to play both football and baseball at Auburn. He's a shortstop by trade. Gulley also can play centerfield.

  • Nosa Eguae, DE from suburban Dallas/Ft. Worth: I was really intrigued with this kid. He's the opposite of shy, but he's not a jabberer. He's a confident fellow. My guess is that he will sign with Auburn. Eguae (pronounced "E-gway") committed to Colorado at one point. He later de-committed. He seemed to feel remorseful about doing that, which may explain why he didn't commit to Auburn this weekend. Dee Ford, an Auburn commitment, told reporters that Eguae had committed. It's clear that Eguae was talking about it during the weekend. Ultimately, Eguay left for Texas without making a firm decision.

  • Emory Blake, WR from Austin, Texas: Reminded me of Kodi Burns, who was Blake's player host. Blake is a calm guy, very calculating with his words. He is just now warming to the Auburn idea after narrowing his initial list to Texas Tech and Colorado. My guess is that he won't sign with Auburn, but he's at least interested. Blake is all business.

  • Brandon Moore, DL from Montgomery: It's clear that he left the Athletic Complex with plans to be diplomatic around reporters. That didn't last long. He basically trashed Auburn for not having a full coaching staff -- Auburn has more coaches than Alabama right now -- and did little to dispel speculation that he'll be choosing between Florida and Alabama. He wants to play defense, though many schools see him as an offensive lineman. He looks like an OT to me.

I'll complete the weekend roll call later.

Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama inspired by the popular novel series of the same name, written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of socialite teenagers growing up on New York City's Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions while dealing with sex, drugs, jealousy, and other issues.

that's from Wikipedia. It's on CW which I've never heard of. I'm going to pass on that one.

The "CW" name is derived from the first letter of the names of these corporations (CBS and Warner Brothers). The network features a lineup of shows that, according to its President of Entertainment Dawn Ostroff, "appeal to women 18 to 34-years-old."

You guys and gals caused me to think about my viewing habits...

The shows I watch or have watched until recently....

Boston Legal (ABC was stupid for cancelling this show)
Two & One-Half Men
The Office

Reruns I love and will watch if I am still long enough:

Cheers
Fraiser
Seinfeld
The Jeffersons
Sanford and Son

Occasionally I'll watch these reality shows:

Deadliest Catch
Flippin Out--this show is a trip

And I am a political junkie...so I watch the main MSNBC and FoxNews shows if nothing else is one.

I can't tell you the last time I watched local or Big 3 News...

I also read about five newspapers each day. One in print. The rest online.

Mostly I am a HABOTN junkie though.

Boston Legal ... outstanding ... my former personal trainer had a bit part in the episode where Denny was taken hostage and the had the trial with the flashbacks.

Big Bang, How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men are the only shows I watch.

The rest is sports and news.

And HABOTN ... and my wife doesn't understand the lure of HABOTN. Of course, she remembers such characters as J-Z and Gatiger and she is afraid. Very afraid.

On the good news front, I convinced her to watch The Godfather and The Godfather Part II and she loved them. There is hope.

In other news ... The Joe Cribbs Car Wash is reporting that Bernie Madoff, Wall Street Crook extraordinaire, attended UAT as a freshman. Figures. Sorry if this has already been posted.

Good morning, Hotties.

TarHeel - I agree with you about Turbo Prop. Too many people left their insulation at home this past election or lost it all together.

After visiting Blake in Austin, looks like they're on their way to Wichita to visit Bryce Brown later this morning. Here's hoping for a miracle!!!

I meant to say after leaving there they're on their way. It's always best to put all your theres as close together as possible.

Sponge was askin' last night why Auburn has so much trouble landing major TB prospects.

Is that true? Onterrio McCalebb is supposed to a big-time star. A lot of schools wanted him.

8:09 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Good morning Fearless Leader, not to be confused with the scantily clad Dear Leader.

I'm very happy with McCalebb. We just haven't had a "franchise" TB sign with AU since Carnell and that's been about 8 years.

8:15 AM

TarHeel, don't forget about Ronnie Brown!!

8:23 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

You also haven't signed a "franchise" quarterback since 2000, a "franchise" wideout since ..., a "franchise" safety since ...

Ben Tate was a highly coveted recruit. I know results haven't been all that coveted, but that's how it goes sometimes.

8:24 AM

I still think Ben Tate has potential. He just hasn't been utilized properly.

Blogger Harrison said...

tony bell was a "franchise" safety. Problem is that franchise was KFC.

8:29 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Yea. Tony Bell was a big name. Was that 2000?

8:32 AM
Blogger Harrison said...

Tony Bell signed in 2004. It seems like a lot longer back than that. He could have been playing last year

8:38 AM
Blogger Alan said...

Everyone wanted mike McNeil also. Hopefully he reaches his potential this year. Tate was coveted by a lot of people also. Hawthorne and slaughter couldve gone to numerous places also. Sometimes things just don't pan out. Let's hope some of these guys turn it around with better coaching.

Luv- Ronnie B signed the year b4 Carnell

Jay GT- last "franchise" WR- #88 but we've had plenty of excellent WRs since, just not lately.

whatever happened to tony bell? he just up and transferred in 2006? anybody know why?

TarHeel, I thought they graduated the same year. Thanks for informing me otherwise.

They graduated the same year because Ronnie redshirted, Luv

michael, thanks. I thought they graduated the same year. So, why did Carnell wait a whole year?

N20RU is has left Austin and will arrive in Wichita around 10:30 CST. Is it an NCAA violation to kidnap a recruit and force him to sign LOI? Or is that just a bunch of minor felonies?

We need to withdraw our offer to Terrence Coleman. Apparently the kid has no concept of what commitment means. Withdraw the offer and move on.

Jay,

I have seen so much negative response from Mosely from the tiders that I am going to try and promote a one on one competition between AJ and Clint. The talk down here in the MOB is how big time AJ is compared to Clint. Even AJ has taken some pops at Clints abilities. My first objective is a 40 yd dash so I can once and for all put to rest which one is slower (notice I did not say faster.) I will keep you updated on the results. Maybe the paper will want to be sponsor.

Blogger AUburnt2acrisp said...

i'm going to answer my own question about tony bell. i just read on another site from 06 that some of bell's AU teammates said he was stealing things from other player's lockers, and that the reason we didn't hear about it was because CTT wanted to keep it in house....

but this is all hearsay

Luv- Ronnie graduated HS one year before Carnell. Ronnie redshirted his freshman yr at AU and did not play. He played as a "redshirt FR" his sophomore yr while Carnell was playing as a true freshman that yr.
2004 was Ronnies 5th yr at AU, Carnell's 4th. Does that make sense?

9:13 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know what a redshirting means. I just found it odd that if they left AU the same year, why they didn't enter the draft the same year. Or, why Carnell didn't sign until a year later.

9:16 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Both Cadillac and Ronnie entered the draft the same year, 2005

9:20 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

And signed the same year.

9:20 AM
Blogger tigercowboy said...

They were drafted the same year. Ronnie was 2nd pick and Carnell was the 8th if I am not mistaken.

9:21 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, again, that's what I thought, but TarHeel said otherwise.

9:21 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Luv- I misunderstood your question. They did enter draft and signed NFL same year.

9:25 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

did not ;-)

9:26 AM
Blogger michael said...

who's on first?

9:26 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Ok, Luv, I see where we got confused. When I said "signed the year before" I was referring to LOI with Auburn. We weren't talking 'bout the NFL. Whew.

9:29 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I do believe Ronnie and Caddy's eligibility is up. I could be wrong on that, but playing in the NFL may make them ineligible. Now, back to reality.

Did LaDarius Perkins have anything to say today about his visitors from AU last night?

Also, did they take Coach Rocker to "recruit" Bryce Brown? We'll need someone to sit on him as the plane takes off. On second thought, I think CTR sitting on someone could be equivalent to attempted murder.

9:37 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Tigercowboy, actually Ronnie was 2 and Caddy was 5. Carolos Rodgers also went at the 9 spot and Campbell I believe went at number 25.

Hey Wake, that NFL draft day was my wedding day. I watched most of it in a back room, in a tux with sweaty palms and a gorgeous hangover. We were walking down the aisle and the guy who married us whispered to me, Campbell just got picked up. That's 4 in the 1st round.

Will, what a wonderful story I'm sure you will always remember that special day forever.

I'm sure the wedding was fun too.

I did joke about that with my wife as we were dancing. I told her how I never thought this day would come, and I was happier than I ever thought I'd be. When I told her I was talking about the NFL draft, she was not amused. Of course I was just kidding, kind of.
