Yeah, Mikal. I always had a dislike for Florida (Spurrier was an ass...), but it turned into full on hate when I moved into this lovely state and realized the evil parallels between their fan base and the bamzo bammers.

If I make it out to Park City to snowboard any time soon, I may try to buy my sister's bammer husband a Utah hat. He probably won't understand why its funny, though.

Could be a little preview of next year for the tide. Lose smith and cauldwell, JPW and the two tight ends. Hard to play in the SEC w/o experience at QB and O-line. As bad as AU was, if we had a qb, we win at least 7 or 8 games.

Sponge, our QB wasn't our problem. Bad coaching, the offensive line, and bad receiving were the main culprits. Both Todd and Kodi were okay QBs, but certainly not great.

Blogger mytommyd said...

I haven't looked through all the notes but wasn't Auburn's offense supposed to look like Utah's did in the first quarter with the no huddle built for speed thing? If we could have been half that fast and accurate we could have definitely been better this year

10:50 PM
Blogger Kris said...

Don't forget bama has only nine seniors, fewest in the nation.....thank God I don't have to hear that line again this season. What they leave out is that all nine are STARTERS....you know, kinda like the stain remover infomercials...they leave out the part that in removing the wine stain from your carpet, said product also burns a hole right through your freaking slab.

10:52 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

What a great night of football!!! Go Utah!!!!! It is such a shame they dont get a chance to play for the official title.

10:55 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

ZSteve. Don't disagree with most of what you said, but chris Todd had two good passes per game in him and held the ball for 6 seconds, way too long. Kodi would have been better if we started off w/ him 1st of the year. He lost confidence after 2nd game.

10:55 PM
Blogger Big MikeZ16 said...

Night ya'll!

10:56 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

Goodnight Hotties. Thanks for adding to the enjoyment of that great game.

10:57 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Kris, second that. Their seniors were key key players and team leaders. Saban is a good coach however. I don't think they crash and burn. But, competition will be better in 09 in the sec west.

10:57 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I don't know where that LB stuff came from ...

Lutzenkirchen is playing on FSN Pacific right now. It's the Offense-Defense Bowl or something like that. They were just highlighting him and talking about Auburn ...

Cotton is playing QB as well.

10:58 PM
Blogger Will said...

Great FB game...even if you don't hate UAT.

11:00 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

And as far as Andre Smith not playing- Smith doesn't play on defense. That was an offensive clinic by Utah.

11:00 PM
Blogger Kris said...

True, but the left side of that line got worked by the Utah defense.

11:01 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

I'm out too. Just popped in to gloat a little. We sucked so bad, sorry to say I'm getting my satisfaction out of a bama loss. We'll see who else Chizik hires. Based on the names so far, we won't have to buy many vowels. War Eagle. I'm pullin for the gators. Still want the SEC to get that NC. Also, the more success other programs in the SEC have, the less them 12 nashinal champiumships mean. blahhhh.

11:01 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

Smith will be the scapegoat for this game...It sure was great to see JPW get hit like that

11:02 PM
Blogger Kris said...

LB stuff? Must have missed something...

11:06 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

kris- no doubt about it, Utahs' d-line made it miserable for JPW. I just never figured they would light up Bama for that many points.

11:06 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

One more thing about the Utah win. Utah did this with pretty much no rushing game whatsoever. Dink and dunk passes, running the plays so quick Bama couldn't think straight. I hope this is the kind of ludicrous speed Coach Chiz was talking about for our offense, although with a much better running attack.

11:09 PM
Blogger Will said...

My wife asked a good Q, do you think the UAT crowd views this season as a success after tonight?

11:11 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

I would hope they do, Will, but i also know some Bama folks (and some UGA folks) that consider anything less than an SEC title and/or a NC a dissappointment

11:13 PM
Blogger Will said...

I saw this somewhere else....

Utah 14 points better than Bama....Bama 36...Aub 0... 14 + 36=50....Utah 50..barn 0...

At least their fans are enjoying the success of this season and not worrying about us Barners.

11:17 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Just saw this on the cbssportsline page:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Former Miami quarterback Robert Marve may transfer to a Southeastern Conference school with the Hurricanes' blessing after all.

That is, any SEC school except Tennessee, Florida or LSU.

Wonder if he's looking our way, or if Malzahn may be looking his way. Is he even worth looking at? Would he "fit" the student/athlete roll we're looking for?

11:19 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Will:

Any Bama fan that doesn't view this season as a success is an idiot.

We were picked to finish THIRD in the west.

This season has been a great success.

11:19 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

31 Yards rushing, thats worse than the last time they did not have smith...it was 92 against Tulane

11:21 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

Total domination by Utah on both sides of the ball. That's the first time i saw Saban get outcoached all season.

11:22 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Nevermind on the Marve thing, he evidently has problems going to class. Most of the comments are "don't let the door hit you on the way out" type comments.

11:23 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

Why is Marve leaving Miami anyway?

11:24 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

It looked like Alabama's D had no idea that Utah was going no huddle/fast paced offense. But that's what Utah normally does, right?

11:24 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

The Oklahoma St boards are going crazy talking about Trooper Taylor going to Miami as OC or to AU as an assistant. Has anyone heard talk of him coming to AU or is this just internet talk? He is known to be an outstanding recruiter. Thanks.

11:25 PM
Blogger Will said...

FSJ I agree w/ you man and I congratulate you on a great season. I have enjoyed your opinions over the season. I look fwd to the coming months as we approach next yr.

11:26 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

The article really didn't say exactly why BigCat, but I have a feeling being replaced as the starter has a little to do with it.

11:26 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

I think Trooper has a better chance to advance if he stays in the big 12, but I will never fuss if he became a Tiger

11:29 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

BigCat - his Dad came out today and said sorry for the comments as of late...he has prostate cancer and they were upset he could not transfer to another ACC, SEC or any Flordia School...his dad wanted him to be close

War Eagle!

11:32 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

Depressed apparently there is something in the rivals article about our new RB coach that indicated that Trooper might be on his way to the Plains too. Seems unlikely since he is an OC and coming to AU would seem like a demotion

11:32 PM
Blogger Guruwill said...

AU rivals site is confirming Chizik is trying to lock him down(Trooper Taylor). He has never called plays before so I doubt he goes anywhere as a solo OC. Miami is going after McElwain(?)supposedly. Luper is a solid recruiter but Taylor is one of the best. Getting him and Garner on the same staff would be something special. Though I realize no news is bad news on Garner.

11:33 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

TommyD...good job with the link!!! It took me like five tries to get it right my 1st time.

11:35 PM
Blogger AUBigCat said...

I hope Trooper does come to AU and get our WRs straightened out

11:36 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

I still have Tracy Rocker as #1 on my coaching wish list...he has done some great things with some less than great D-lines at Ark and Ole Miss

11:37 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Thanks BigCat - Actually thanks go to Zteve. He gave me all the html coding stuff.

11:37 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

Rocker also did a great job at Troy too

11:37 PM
Blogger astatguy said...

If the numbers on the net are right we really are paying what it takes to get top assistants. Trooper may get a large payday to take a "demotion".

11:38 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

So I didn't see anything official, but is it understood that Curtiz is going to be the new RB coach?

11:39 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

Trooper would whip the WR's in shape for sure, if he does not kill any of them first

11:39 PM
Blogger barkley for governor said...

gooooooooooooo UTES.

fsj, how did you like your sneak preview of 2009?

well, i guess it will be a little different since you all will have a first year starter at qb who won't know what to do when he's being chased out of his shoes. what a beautiful night. i love utah

11:39 PM
Blogger astatguy said...

Think about it. Bama's paying Saban $4M a year. We can load up on great coaches and come in under that number.

11:40 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

Guru, I was all on the Garner welcome-wagon, but I don't think it is going to happen. IF Trooper Taylor comes to AU, it would help my feelings tremendously regarding recruiting. I don't think he is RG in recruiting, but he is still top-notch. He is very good at relating to the players, and I believe he is well thought of as a WR coach. I hope this works out for AU.

11:41 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Saw where someone said Brodie called to say UAT won the last three quarters tonight.

Good line.

11:41 PM
Blogger Will said...

I'm still high on Reggie Herring. The guy has the same philos as Chiz. Small, fast LBs. Do you remember what he did w/ Sam Olajubutu? He was 4'8 and 96 lbs.

11:42 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

I have also read that Demarco Mcneil wants to come back and take a low coaching role...and Grampa Jimmy Brumbaugh had shown intrest, even though he just signed to coach Dline at LaTech

reggie Herring could find a MLB out of nowhere, but I thought he had a good gig right now

11:45 PM
Blogger astatguy said...

Garner has been at Georgia for a while and hasn't been promoted to DC. He's a good recruiter, but I understand there may be questions about X's and O's.

I'd rather get a young fire breather.

11:45 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

MIZ - ESPN said today he just cannot go to a ACC, SEC or any D1school in Flordia...thats part of his release

11:46 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Who is the guy from the Texans? Heard that he may be a possibility for DC as well.

11:47 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

Am I the only one who thinks Rocker as a DC would make a splash, let him learn even more under Chiz. He is already getting paid DC money at Ole Miss

11:48 PM
Blogger Will said...

I don't think the DAL Cowbos are all too happy with their coaching staff. Phillips did well to keep his job, but I think Herring is ripe for the picking.

11:49 PM
Blogger Will said...

Scuse me...COWBOYS

11:49 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

Which Texans Coach...Holland?

11:50 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

I'm kind of with you emmett. I would rather CGC take a newbie under his wing and develop him into a top notch DC. That way he may also stay more than two years, too

11:50 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

Or Ray Rhodes?

11:50 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Not sure who it was from the Texans, but one of that group that was just let go. Which may or may not be someone we would want anyway. But pro IS different from the college game

11:51 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

I was just curious if anyone thought in that way, I like the Chiz/Muschamp type that has lots of fire and just needs someone to teach them the fine pointsa of the role

11:52 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Jon Hoke

11:54 PM
Blogger Will said...

Anyone going to the bball game tomorrey?

11:55 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

I dont want Richard Smith, he was fired for a reason...he could not make the halftime adjust. Something that is more important in college than the pros to me

11:55 PM
Blogger astatguy said...

I agree Emmitt. A strong recruiter, energetic leader, and teachable fire breather.

11:56 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

I like the way Chizik had our defense running more than Muschamp. And as I recall Chizik adjusted better at half than Muschamp did, too. And if he could teach someone how to do that, and have them stay here for a good while - I'm absolutely for it

11:57 PM
Blogger Emmett said...

I will take Joe Hoke as a DB or Special Teams Coach, but I would be ticked if he became the DC...there are much better options

11:57 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

The one thing i wonder about all this Emmett is how much of the defense does Chiz want to handle? Is he looking for an established DC so he can just manage the whole gameplan? Or is he looking for an "understudy" that has a lock on recruiting?

12:01 AM
Blogger Emmett said...

If we are gonna steal pro guys I wish we could take Travis Jones or Curtis Johnson from the Saints. Johnson is one of the best WR coaches in the league to me, and Jones just needs a chance to prove himself...he is just too loyal to his teams

12:01 AM
Blogger AUfan said...

I felt the same way, but the hot name of the moment for DC is Ellis Johnson. Not exactly an up-and-comer, but maybe that is who Chizik wants. I have a hard time figuring out how an assistant lands a coordinator role. Someone has to give them a chance and I would like to see either Garner or Rocker.

12:01 AM
Blogger Emmett said...

I think he will be alot like Tubby was about his D, he wants a guy that will do things on their own...but still need him a little...the prob was Tubby took too much control where I hope Chiz will step in where needed...I hate to watch coaches that dont even speak to 2/3 of their team...like Leach does or OK States coach...they are all O and let the D do whatever they want

12:04 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

You ready for something funny? This was in Wiki under Ellis' bio:

After Gene Chizik had been hired at Auburn, rumors began circulating that he would jointhe staff as Defensive Coordinator.

Guess it's not just us

12:05 AM
Blogger Emmett said...

We could take a lot worse than Ellis...but he is not my top pick...I just dont want some junk throw-away DC because they focus on Off. I want to see LB's like Spikes,Dansby, and our little ball of hate....not some Bobby P team where all the atletes go to the O side and the D gets whats left

12:10 AM
Blogger Emmett said...

Ellis is old school, and coached everywhere but Auburn in the past

12:11 AM
Blogger Miller said...

Don't count it as gospel...cause I certainly don't have 'insider' knowledge... but I have heard Jon Hoke as the DB coach. Jet was touting Rocker as the DL coach earlier... I think that's a possibility too.

I thought the Trooper Taylor thing was a joke at first... but it seems to be growing legs. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I'd be ecstatic if we hired Trooper.

Yeah, and after Miss St, E Johnson went to Arkansas and didn't even get his bags unpacked before heading to S Carolina. He has definitely logged a lot of miles in the southeast. And earlier today Kathy(I think) said she had read that he had a million-dollar buy-out for taking another job if it was not a HC job. I just don't see a big buy-out like that for Johnson.

Oh and do you want a preview of my next call to D&B?

1. Auburn will be running the no huddle.

2. Utah exemplified what/how a "spread" team could run the ball up your ass and run the clock with a lead (any bammer who says this was becuase of Smith didn't watch the game".

Miss tackles and great OL play won that game for Utah.

3. This game is exactly what Bammer can expect what next season with Smith and Caldwell gone. (see Tulane)

4. Buh Bye Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson. And note that he's going to be very very hard to replace.

5. The fans on the call in show reflect what I have said all along. Saying crazy stuff while I got my 3.28 worth of food I couldn't finish - God Bless America! -

Nick Saban finds out EXACTLY who he works for in the next year. This is the BEST thing that could happen to AU fans who think Saban will leave if pushed.

12 & effin 2 in his 2nd? Guess what - Bammers, and I mean serious Bammers. The ones who paint their kid's faces. The ones who have a toilet seat cover singed by the "BARR".

The same ones who met him at the airport and got DUI on the way home ---- AT 11 AM --- are going to be there.

bottom line - he finds out who he works for in 2009. He works for the same folks who decided that Gene Stallings wasn't doing the job in 1990-something.

Yeah, the same 1990-something where the Old Dude in Brown won a national title ---- He was run off.

This is where it gets fun.

Whating Saban think he's different. He's not Gene Stallings, or Dubose or the Barr himself in 1975 or so.

Enjoy!

I like you "up and coming" idea but I really would like a under 35 guy with experience calling and coordinating.

That's just me.

I'd like a guy with Florida recruiting ties.

You can add what they will call the new "wildcat package" If it is Wild Tiger I may hurl..Wild Eagle i can handle...but I will always love the "War Spread Eagle" Package....just to hear the CBS guys and Corso have to talk call it...we should realy call it the "Kodi please dont screw up" package...but that is too long

I really just want Rocker back, I think he would learn the last little bits he needs from Chiz...If not that I wish we could steal Travis Jones from the Saints D'Line staff he has the Fla ties....and while we are there we can overpay Curtis Johnson to come coach WR....but a man can dream

Have you seen the nESPN video roaming around about Malzahn's helping Miami do it this year?

AWSOME!

ESPN NFL countdown did a piece and the Dolphin's coach who mentioned doing it give CGM all the credit.

Who is there with the Fla Ties to bring in? Burnham from USF or his DB coach Douglas?

I like the Malzone hire, and I am happy with keeping Willis...I think he is off to a good start. There are also rumors he may keep Demarco McNeil at a small coachng gig which would be great

I just know the only way Rocker will come is to be a DC, esp. after Brown was talking about his pay...it was like 300,000 for a Dline coach

We also talked a good bit about reggie herring

I've said it over and over that college has more to do with recruiting which has more to do with relationships with high school coaches than X's and O's.

Get the players and it'll roll.

I was as much a skeptic as the next guy but Coach Chizik has a shot to make this special.

Dude, I have to finish f;ing vacuming the stairs in the basement - I've been off work and hadn't done shit -- Emmit, you're the ONLY blogger here who reconized my handle.

I hope you listen up because they're stright up!

P Marshalls' site and rivals AU site have pics of Trooper Taylor on their fronts. Hopefully there is some fire to go with all of this smoke. Garner seems to be out of the picture, this would be a very good hire for AU. Ask Tennessee fans if they want to see Trooper at AU.

Phillip Lutzenkirchen is going to play some fullback at the Offense-Defense All-American-Bowl. A 6'4" 240lb. fullback would be a nice asset near the goal line.

Likes Chizik and is still "committed". Will visit Alabama and Tennessee, but probably not Florida.

"AuburnSports.com has confirmed that Chizik is in discussions with OSU co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor." That's from Rivals.

Wouldn't it be bad to have one of the nations best recruiters. (trying not to get excited)

Emmett, if you think Leach isn't involved with his defense you weren't reading lips during his team huddle when OM was on their goal line. He was telling them to hit OM in their promiscuous mouths.:-) Nice call - OM didn't score.

Trooper Taylor is such a bad man that he will not require a "Z" in his name.

He will towel-whip anyone who suggests otherwise.

I wanted a 350-Z for my Auburn hot rod, but had to settle for no Z. I'll also take Trooper without the Z.

I remember being in the stands at the SEC Championship Game in 2004 ... and wondering "Who is that?!?!?"

It was an assistant coach who was yelling at anything moving, whipping the Vols into a frenzy every time they got down. You could see how they responded to him. I was thinking, "Gee, I'd love to have something like that on ourteam."

UT was the lesser team on the field, but kept battling us until the end.

The assistant coach? Trooper Taylor.

1. Place Tahd in a big bowl.

2. Whip for 3 hours.

Enjoy!
