Vanderbilt def. Auburn, 82-75.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Post No. 1,020

Welcome to Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.

  • FINAL
    Vanderbilt wins, 82-75.

  • AUBURN TO @ 1:23
Vanderbilt leads, 76-72. A pair of three-point shots from Beal have given the Commodores a big boost.

  • AUBURN TO @ 4:30
Vanderbilt leads, 70-67. Ogilvy, Vanderbilt's big center, is getting assertive and working Auburn near the basket.

  • SECOND TO @ 11:58
Vanderbilt leads, 54-50. Auburn has lots if verve -- and its shooting touch. The Commodores aren't really abusing near the basket like they were early in the game, but this Jermaine Beal character is hitting shots from all over.

  • FIRST TO @ 15:58
Tied at 48. Auburn has scored on five of its first six possessions to open the half. Not too shabby. There's a different level of energy out there right now.

  • Football recruit David Oku is here. A few kids in the student section started cheering his name and Oku didn't mind. He began leading the chorus. Funny.

  • This is the "Red Panda Acrobat," who performed at halftime. While riding a unicycle, she was kicking bowls from her feet to her head. And she'd stack 'em 12 high. It's a miracle.

  • HALFTIME
Vanderbilt leads, 41-36. Auburn scored three points on each of its final three possessions of the first half -- Barber with the "and one", Barrett with a three, Sullivan with a three.

  • FOURTH TO @ 3:01
Vanderbilt leads, 38-27. Same basic concept. Lett is showing some signs of life on the offensive end.

  • THIRD TO @ 7:28 (I missed the second one with Washington stuff)
Vanderbilt leads, 29-19. Auburn is having a difficult time defending in the post. The Commodores have three big guys and they're getting plenty of opportunities. Barber and Johnnie Lett seem ill-equipped to handle the barrage.

  • Reed has checked in.

  • FIRST TO @ 15:51
Vanderbilt leads, 9-3. Scintillating start for the Tigers. They are 1-for-8 right now. PG DeWayne Reed apparently was a late arrival and has been benched as a result. More on that later.

  • Your Auburn Tigers starters:
    F/C -- Korvotney Barber
    F -- Lucas Hargrove
    SF -- Rasheem Barrett
    SG -- Tay Waller
    PG -- Tez Robertson

Fannin would ride the pine at FLA and OKLA also. Tate got a bad rap this season because he was stuck in there running Tony Franklin's one running play. I think next year he will be pretty good.

1:46 PM
Blogger NoALtiger said...

Yes Ron, Fannin would ride the pine at UF and Oklahoma, but Ben wouldn't even make the team. Not saying that he isn't useful though.

true ron...couldve been the franklin syndrome..he was pretty good the year before.

1:47 PM
Blogger ron mexico said...

Tony Franklin had no clue how to use that running play out of the shotgun. It was a race to the sidelines. Malzahn's version of that play is more off tackle which is more ben tate's speed. I think it will work out better for him.

1:50 PM
Blogger Blake_34 said...

Ben Tate looks like a bruiser, yet you never see him run over anybody. Every play he seems to gain 3 yards, or lose 2, depending on where he gets touched. I can only assume he is one heck of a pass blocker.

3:10 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

according to Lebo's new 7yr contract signed in 2005
The contract includes two clauses, a buyout should Auburn choose to cancel the contract and a penalty clause should Lebo terminate the agreement. Auburn’s buyout is $250,000 for each year remaining on the contract up to a maximum of four years.

3:10 PM

so I'm guessing that's a $750K buyout after this season.

$750,000 to head into a $90 million arena with a fresh enthusiasm... seems like a deal

3:12 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

How much of it is really Lebo?
I think it's 90% the horrible b-ball facilities at AU. But that has resulted in Lebo acquiring a not-so-hot reputation that I seriously doubt can be overcome by the new arena.
Bottom Line: I think Ron Mexico is right.

3:15 PM
Blogger ballin said...

I agree Ron, I was just pointing out that it has been a losing proposition in the past based on fan support and facilities.

Good news ...

Marshall just threw a TD pass on the last play to beat Xavier in the first game since the plane crash.

Cheering recruits names is not only allowed, it is encouraged. I can believe that the fine young people attending Auburn University can multitask, cheering for recruits and for our hoops team at the same time.

Jay - Your thought on Izauea Lanier? Didn't you speak with him when he was here? Bryan at Auburnsports.com says he visited MSU this weekend. In your opinion, is he just enjoying the weekend of can he be courted away?

When you take your official to Mississippi State, do they try to convince the visitors that the Beau Rivage is in Starkville?

Just read that DT Shackleford switched his commit from UT to Ole Miss. Either we really are full at LB or Chiz has something big planned for signing day.

Shackleford was told as was Lattimore the we are full at LB. Two very good players to turn down.

So does anyone have a link to this picture of Coach Taylor and David Oku holding up a sign that said "OKU Running Back U" ???

From everything I read he was having a great time. I did not have a warm fuzzy about him until these latest reports have come out. Sounds like CGC may silence the doubters if his motivation and determination continue from the recruiting trail to Spring Practice and then finally game day.

My how our recruiting rankings have shot up thanks to Mr. Demond Washington!

Auburn Ranked #14!

I'm glad the crowd chanted "OKU", but I wish our basketball team were good enough to be the focus at a basketball game.

We should bring in Charles Barkley as basketball coach. He was fired at TBS, so he needs something to do when he's not playing golf. He knows a little about basketball, and would be a great recruiter. He's black, so he wouldn't have to say nasty things about the basketball coach. And there are lots of places to get bear claw donuts and wine coolers. As for his other appetites, well maybe living in Auburn would make him a better person.

If you think Spurrier is a part-time coach, Charles Barkley would redefine the genre.

Rivals doesn't like our recruits near as much.

Oku would be a nice add. This recruiting class could shape up to be better than I expected if we get a few of these high profile guys.

I hope all these smaller RBs can catch the ball as well, we only have 2 WR on our list right now.

Spurrier is a full time coach, but his offense is so 90s. He hasn't progressed with the trends in college football. The zone blitz really put a whipping on the Spurrier type offenses.

7/15 from the free throw line. It's bad when you only get 15 attempts at home anyway, but only hit 7???

LOL, Jay. We'd probably be better off the more time he stayed off campus. Just hire great assistants and let Barkley recruit.
