Some basketball chatter
Hey everyone. Since our earlier thread turned into T.M.I. Fest, I have decided to open this thread to discuss the upcoming Auburn-Alabama men's game.
That game will be contested Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
The Head Coach and The Freshman Guard spoke with the HABOTN earlier today about the upcoming showdown.
GUARD FRANKIE SULLIVAN
•On the team's dramatic mid-season improvement: "It's all mental. We had the talent. We just needed to learn to play together and be tough in games. Falling behind doesn't mean you have to lose."
•On shooting guard Tay Waller: "There's a lot to learn from him, but probably not his shot. He has a very awkward shot. It's almost like he's shooting sideways. I try to shoot like a gun. He's fearless out there. You can learn a lot from his confidence and the way he forgets mistakes so quickly."
•On why the team has gotten so hot since a 19-point loss at Ole Miss: "We saw that you can't take anything for granted. You've gotta play for your life every single day. We got a lot tougher mentally after that. I think it taught us a lesson that we carried into practice and games."
COACH JEFF LEBO
•On why the team sucked at Ole Miss: "I share in some of that responsibility. We made changes in the way we play. I said so. That was the first game where we played really poorly. I was disappointed in our physical and mental toughness. We addressed it a little bit and talked about it."
•On how important reserve center Brendan Knox has become: "(Korvotney) Barber is more productive when he's playing 30 minutes per game. We like to keep him fresh. We may play him and Knox together against the bigger teams like Alabama."

Bless you, Jay G.
Good grief
Don't good grief me. That thread needed to be put out of its misery
And still no big dance...
I liked the stories
centretiger.
Are you from Centre, AL?
So who's ready for TMI II: The Quickening?
FSJ,
Not from Centre, but live here now...
Nice, mchl. How clever of you.
We have a lake lot in Leesburg.
Beautiful county.
Krstanuhi, I am okay with you misspelling my name, but shortening it is just disrespectful.
Sorry, Mclhiea. No disrespect intended.
Weiss Lake and the surrounding area are definitely beautiful...
I'm gonna go make some Kool-Aid. Pumped up for tomorrow night's game...or something.
Peter...
I'm thinking of driving down for the game after I get off work..
Wonder if Mrs. FSJ will be ok with that?
I hope your team loses...
Not nice Peter..
Mrs. FSJ is giving me grief right this very minute...
but I will prevail.
Glad we are skraight, Rkestina. I don't want to end up on The List like FSJ.
Thanks for the b-ball coverage Jay. Can't wait for tomorrow's game. A win locks up a 2 seed and a bye in the SEC tourney, but more importantly, puts Bama to the broom. Should be a good game with both teams playing well.
I just hope ESPN does not show any of the halftime festivities when we have to hand over the Iron Bowl trophy after six glorious years.
What kind of list is zoo keeper keeping?
Choo Choo Choose Your Battles, says the smart train. Fake Laurene Powell might give into a basketball game if it means destroying you in the bbq pit fight.
I have lots of lists actually...
Sound advice, Peter...
Sound advice, Peter...
Sounds like it's coming round the bend...choo choo! choo choo!
Puppet hour. Shipped all of the puppets out on the orient express. They're freezing in upper Mongolia about now.
Long time no see, Michael (Eddie's brother). I wouldn't count on ESPN leaving out the halftime coverage. At least a snippet, I'd guess.
Auburn is at its best when they are playing like a pack of starving dogs fighting over a piece of meat.
Mistake Peter. now they will be out for revenge. I'd watch my back if i were you
Roddam Mongorians, tear down my chitty wall!
Did I tell y'all about my vasectomy?
You should have had it when you were 9.
Dang, I had quite a few more TMI stories to share.
I've just gotten home, let the dog out, picked up her mess, took out the trash, gotten the mail, cracked a beer, and caught up on my reading here. Now; I tell you this so that I can say, it's been a bit more than 4 years since I vacated the gump. In my mail here in Johns Creek, GA today I have a notice telling me (and the wife) that my Polling Place in the gump City Election has changed from A to B (or whatever). It just strikes me as odd that after 4+ years no one has apparently made that update. I've certainly registered here and voted in every election (just like I did there). Lucky for gump folks that the man who was ultimately responsible for such things is now your Congressman. Nice job.
Sometimes, things just really aggravate me.
One time I gave a puppet a vasectomy.
Hey Monica. I'm sort of thawing out here with spring practice around the corner. I still always read Jay's blog, just haven't had much time for the comments section lately.
I have class during the game tomorow night, so I guess I'll just have fast forward on my DVR during halftime to make sure I don't see any of the celebrations.
If I had it at 9, there would be no TurboProp and Stewardess.
As Stewardess is the apple of my eye, this is unacceptable to me.
As I am convinced that TurboProp may very well be the Chosen One to tear down the Infidels, this should be unacceptable to the rest of you.
michael that was pointless. puppets breed asexually
This one time, at band camp...
For you Dish Network people out there ...
Is installing an over-the-air antenna (for HD) easy or hard?
That's what the asexual puppet said.
Just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Can't help ... still committee to Knology ... the preferred cable provider in East Vaughngumpery
I didn't do it to stop the breeding. I did it for fun.
easy
Centre = Home of Father of Jet
Tates Chapel = Home of Mother of Jet
Centretiger, hang out here more often. We need good people like you here, unlike that Infidel from Gadsden, FSJ.
Low tonight of 11.
I'M SICK OF IT!
SICK SICK SICK SICK OF IT!
but its better there than here...
I agree that it's unlikely that we would make it to the big dance, but ... I don't think it's an impossible notion. How many teams from the SEC will make it? Four? I don't know. Just asking.
If Auburn wins these next two and wins one in the SEC Tournament, I'd say that's a go for the NCAAs.
Mon, it's March 2. Surely your cold weather will abate soon.
JG, you think we are in for an NIT bid yet? I think we'll need some luck and some solid play from Barber, Waller, and Barrett to have a shot at NCAAs. My prediction, we split the last 2 and win two in the SEC tourney.
Winning two in the SEC's means an appearance in the finals. At that point, Auburn would have 22 wins. I think that would be enough to get into the NCAAs.
I think we have about a 5% shot to make the big dance. Maybe we can host a home NIT game and 6000 people can enjoy it
I'm with Jay..
I think Auburn needs to win the next two and then one in the SEC tournament.
But for some reason I think Tuesday night is a trap game.
I can't believe being in the NCAA's is even being discussed. I certainly wouldn't have thunk it a few weeks ago.
Wow Jay, I would have thought that was optimistic with regard to our tourney hopes, but you would know better than me. I was thinking we would have to at least make it to the SEC final (as well as winning these last two games) for any kind of hope.
Kind of sad I guess and indicative of the state of Auburn basketball over the last few years, but I'm just excited that heading into the final week of the season we are still harboring some faint NCAA hopes. Of course, when I realize how much of veteran team we are and how many guys we'll lose, I'm scared to think of what we'll look like next year.
Is there a certified bracketologist among us that can confirm Auburn's chances at making the NCAA Tournament?
I'm more impressed with Auburn basketball right now than I have been since Chris Porter.
The 2003 team got into the Sweet 16, but I still can't understand the hows and whys surrounding that run.
2003 was a shock to me, also. I followed AU basketball back in the day, but January 8, 2003 I went into basic training. I couldn't follow sports again until March, and all of a sudden they were in the Sweet 16. I was all like, "Uhhhh huh wha?"
New thread up on Antonio Coleman being named to the Lombardi Award Watch List.
Old Thread about basketball down.
an entire blog devoted to the Auburn-Alabama basketball game in two days.....nice.
BEAT BAMA!
the game is tomorrow. i hadn't realized. many apologies about my previous comment.
"The 2003 team got into the Sweet 16, but I still can't understand the hows and whys surrounding that run." Umm, didn't Marquis Daniels average about 30 ppg in that tournament run? I'm no expert, but I'd say that helped. Still can't believe he wasn't drafted.
What do y'all think of Frankie Sullivan so far? I love his play and confidence (not to mention his media-savvy).
