World Cup coming to a stadium near you?

It's rare that I can weave Auburn and international soccer into the same topic, but today is the day.

The group preparing America's bids for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups has made preliminary contact with Auburn officials about playing host to games. Jordan-Hare Stadium is one of 70 stadia being considered.

Other SEC schools earning similar glances include Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee and Georgia.

Ehyou,

Samford Stadium in Athens hosted last time and had to cut down their hedges to fit a soccer field in.

John Daly is a talented and entertaining golfer. I can't say I would be much different from him if I was on the tour. It is sad and pitiful what he has been reduced to.

WTC,

It's a major issue at the Hangar.

ElTurbo is an all-state percussionist and the concert is at the same time ... in Opelika.

ElTurbo says I'm going to A-Day as his representative. Mrs. Jet says I'm going to the concert.

It's going to be a Lifetime movie. A Family in Crisis: A-Day 2009.

My wife asked me to commit to a family event in Birmingham, she then told me the dates 2 weeks later. The said date is also the date of A-Day. I got werked.

Oddly enough, the day after A-Day is the premier of the Natalie Holloway Lifetime movie.

I can't imagine what that family is still going through.

Sensi, that is a tough thing to have zero closure to. The crazy thing is this is not the first time this has happened and it's ridiculous that the U.S. and the Aruban governments didn't really do much to help.

Agreed, Seanzie.

I have heard many a theory about it. I wonder if we'll ever really know.

Anyone see on AL.com where Philip Rivers' little brother was transferring to Athens High School? Steven Rivers is listed as a 6-foot-5 sophomore. I have heard rumors that the family still likes AU even after Philip was not offered by AU as a QB. Does anyone know for sure about that?

In total, only 3 SEC stadiums were left off the list: Ole Miss, Miss State, and Vandy (though Nashville is a prospective host city with LP Field). That's pretty cool.

I'd see how that competes against the rest of the BCS, but that would take longer than I care to spend on soccer.

My wife said she wanted to get married in Oct. I told her to call me and let me know how that goes. As a repayment, she selfishly planned on getting pregnant and having a baby the week of the UGA game a few yrs ago. SELFISH!

I have mentioned this here before, but one of my good friends got married the day of the Auburn-Georgia game a few years back. I was really upset about missing the game, especially since I was a student and all, but then it turned out to be cold and rainy and we got destroyed. Best game I ever missed.

I saw that yesterday on soccernet (full disclosure, I'm a huge soccer fan). I think the US will get the World Cup in 2022, but I know it's extremely unlikely that Jordan-Hare would host any games, but the thought of the possibility sure did bring a smile to my face.
