Auburn baseball celebrates
Hey everyone. Your Auburn Tigers of baseball notoriety rallied for a 3-2 win against Alabama on Thursday night. Brian Fletcher, whom you see pictured above, drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning to seal the deal.
Fellow Advertiser hack Tim Gayle had this to say about last night's drama:
AUBURN -- The seventh blown save of the season was likely the final blow to Alabama's Southeastern Conference title hopes. You can read the rest of the story here: Tigers tag Tide bullpen

Brian Fletcher drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th to force across the winning run as Auburn defeated the 10th-ranked Crimson Tide 3-2 at Plainsman Park on Thursday night.
The loss, coupled with LSU's victory over Mississippi State, Florida's win over Kentucky and Mississippi's win over Arkansas, dropped Alabama to fourth place in the standings, a game and a half behind the Tigers and a half-game behind the Gators and the Rebels with two games remaining.

Way to go Auburn.
Round the bowl, down the hole!
Early new thread!! I like it...
Luv, in response to your question, I'm going to get my new clubs fitted and I'm probably going to get my swing fixed by a pro before I make another purchase. It is definitely on the to-do list.
Morning Hotties - I fondly remember the days when I could play golf regularly and managed to get myself a respectable handicap. Those days are gone.
Seanzie, those are steps in the right direction! I really need to get my swing fixed too.
gatiger, I'm sure you're handicap isn't as bad as mine.
Beating UAT at anything - Great!
Beating UAT and ruining chances for postseason play (when there's no chance in hell Auburn is going anyway) - Priceless!
I own golf clubs. I play maybe 8-10 times a year. I don't keep score. I slice with an occasional crushing drive and I have a lot of fun on the course. I primarily play the Trojan Oaks in Troy. Why? 1)It's rather inexpensive 2)I don't get run off the course by want-to-be PGA tour golfer (no offense to anyone here).
Golf is fun. I plan to keep it that way.
Luv - when I was a member of a club in the gump and played quite often, I got it down to a fairly respectable -11. Nowadays, I play less than half dozen times a year. It's just not the priority for me it once was, I don't know how to compact my schedule or what to eliminate from it to allow me to play more often. Since the cub is showing definite signs of athleticism, maybe he'll have an inclination for golf and we can get out and play.
Norm, where did you find that shiner?
The real story isn't near as interesting as the many possible scenarios which could've brought about the shiner. Around the office, I'm going with that the wife gave me a beatdown which most of the coworkers can appreciate since they know my meek and mild-mannered wife.
In actuality it came about while playing with the son and a ball was involved.
The real stories aren't usually as good...but your 2 y.o. with that southpaw w/ that mean 2 seamer caught ya by surprise right? I mean that's uber interesting.
My clubs are too short for me. This causes bad things to happen during my swing. It also forces me into some bad habits in an effort to compensate. Golf clubs are expensive so I guess I'll just keep hacking away.
Is it Oct 10th yet?
Auburn at Arkansas
Alabama at Ole Miss
Florida at LSU
Georgia at Tennessee
What a day.
That was a great game last night. I am proud to say that I was in attendance. If you ever get a chance to catch a game at Plainsman Park, (you have today and tomorrow for this season) be sure to sit on the third base side behind the hecklers. They are well worth the price of admission.
I wonder how much it would cost to have my clubs adjusted/fitted to fit my swing? Would it really make that big of a difference?
Luv, Ballantrae kicked my butt last weekend!
My golf game
But, it's a BEAUTIFUL course, isn't it?
Also, can anyone tell me what it costs to have my clubs re-gripped?
They're all hard for me, but, I don't think Ballantrae is as hard as Timberline.
Miller, I know the PGA Tour Superstores up here in Atlanta do a pretty good job and have competitive prices on golf club customization. It's not that far of a haul to the southside.
Hole #2 at Ballantrae is a killer!
D. Miller, check out either Golfsmith or Edwin Watts. Golfsmith is on 280 in Inverness and there are two Edwin Watts: one in Vestavia on Hwy 31 and one on 280.
Miller- club regripping is usually the cost of the grip plus $2 per club. Grips run from $3-$10 depending on what you want. Any golf store or proshop will usually do this.
d miller...
Re-grip your clubs yourself. It's way easy.
Ballantrae is a beautiful course. #1 is an intimidating start - having to carry the tee shot 200+ over water and a front bunker to get to the fairway. I knew I was in for a long day starting off that way.
My driver was up for the challenge. Too bad the rest of my clubs weren't.
Luv,
Is there a good course in the area that doesn't cost quite so much to play? I have a charity tourney coming up at the end of the month and need some practice before then.
Is there at least a good range around to go hit at?
I go to Florida for a week and Auburn wins a couple of baseball games...maybe I should move down there.
Pin Oaks...now that's a golf course.
Shirt and shoes optional, of course.
beating bama..........a great start to the weekend! WDE!
I've got a great weekend on tap...Dunwoody Beerfest tomorrow and then I've got tix @ The Ted on Sunday. The only thing in my way is another 5.5 hours on the job.
pfffft...Dunwoody. Nothing but a bunch of yuppies. You better drink them silly Seanzie.
If anyone else is interested in getting up a team for the tournament, let me know and I will get you the details on how to sign up. They are also looking for sponsors. Tourney format is 4 man scramble and is being held at Chesley Oaks Golf Course in Fairview, AL (just outside of Cullman).
The tournament, the Kris Banister Memorial, is named in honor of my cousin who died from cancer a few years ago. Proceeds of the charity event go to benefit the Alabama Baptist Children's Home in Decatur. This is a wonderful charity that I have seen first hand have a positive impact on a child's life and their family.
Sean - we have similar plans for the weekend. It'll be just the Golden Retriever and I in the house for the weekend while the wife goes to the beach with the girls and the son spends the weekend at the grandparents. So, what crazy things are on tap for me you ask? Tonight - catch up on DVR shows which don't interest the missus. Tommorrow - run 16 miles in the morning, pig out, work in the yard on various projects, watch more tv at night (I now have a crapload of new HD channels). Sunday - teach the kids Sunday School class, lunch, go to a movie.
It'll be CRAZY man.
Me and the fam will be spending this weekend on beautiful Lewis Smith Lake. Daddy will be attempting to propel daughters' innertube airborne while being screamed at to slow down.
I definitely plan on getting my money's worth.
Roll call for any Hotties that might make it to the game tonight. It would be nice to have a convention of sorts. Lemme know.
Hate Bama.
Man I almost went to that game! Sweeping Bama or at least taking 2 of 3 would be a nice ending to a dissapointing season.
Go Tigers! Hate bama!
Pin Oaks? Is that cow pasture still in existence? All I could afford to play when I was @ AU. Beat nothing at all for sure.
LT
Here's the flight pattern for the Jet Family ...
Friday -- continue arrangements for ElTurbopalooza
Saturday -- 30 family members converge on the Hangar for ElTurbopalooza
Sunday -- Baccalaureate
Sunday -- Graduation
LOL got my Ps and Ss confused:
"disappointing"
ehyou - that sounds like a mighty long car ride for you. Correct?
D. Miller, Hole #2 is the one with the water; the one that doglegs left. Timberline has a nice range with a nice chipping area. Montevallo is pretty cheap. It's not very pretty, but it's cheap. There's also Oak Mountain, but you have to pay $3 to get into the park. Highland Park, which is downtown, is about $49 on the weekends.
Highland Park is the devil. Short course with shrubbery and rough that literally will eat your golf balls should they venture too close.
These are the places that we go because they don't make you pair up with someone. Most other places require you to have a foursome.
LOL, Seanzie! Yes, I have lost MANY balls there.
gatiger...
Google map said 5 hours, so that means 4.
We don't go to Oak Mountain, though, because they pissed us off on two or three occasions, so we decided not to go there anymore.
I "convieniently" need to go to my jobsite near Lagrange this afternoon. That'll put me 1.5 hours closer before we even start.
I'm still trying to convince my bosses why I "need" to go to Sydney.
How long have you been working on that, Seanzie?
About 2 weeks now. A couple of days ago it was looking possible. But they guys down under decided to send us what I was going to go see for free so now it's not looking good.
Dangit!

My favorite quote of the day!
Thanks, WEG.
So, who has seen that new star trek movie?? If you are on the fence get off the fence and go see this at the theater. Totally worth seeing in the theater, kicked the crap outta the wolverine movie.
Pin Oaks?
You certainly mean Auburn National Golf Club.
Bin - see my earlier reply to Sean re: my weekend activites. I'll have it covered.
I agree with Bin, the new Star Trek is a great movie, one of the few with a cult following that will appeal to both the Trekkies and mainstream audience.
Things I'm not interested in:
Anything "Star Trek"
"Lost"
Video games
Things I'm interested in:
The annihilation of UAT
You guys will be saddened to know that pin oaks has closed it's shoddy doors. Now you just have to play in your own backyard
The dungheap that is my golf game was honed on two courses in the Gump not much different than Auburn National.
Sadly, both of those are long gone, too.
Jet - Concrete Acres being one of them?
Concrete Acres and Montgomery Golf Center Par-3 (with the prevailing wind coming from the stockyards across the road).
Ah yes, I remember both very very well.
What about Bonnie Crest, is it still open? As I recall, it wasn't too bad of a course. And I found it shocking the first time I played it and a Caddilac drove down the cart path to their house.
Bonnie Crest is still open, as far as I can tell. I don't head that way anymore.
Emerald Mountain was just sold at auction. I hear it is in rough shape. I hate that ... it a nice design ... just needs the care a good course deserves.
The Indians, excuse me, Native Americans bought River Run out of bankruptcy, and renamed it Tallapoosa Lakes.

I understand the Hotties for Hockey consists of THT and AU1. I am a secret wannabe member.
I must say the OT last night between Boston and Carolina was extremely entertaining. Both teams were played as if their hair was on fire. I commend to you the NHL playoffs over the useless NBA.
speaking of good golf courses gone bad...Auburn Links is a total disaster of a course now. The bridge between 12 and 13 fell down and they havent replaced it. so you cant play 12 and 13

I remember each of those well. I only played Emerald 2 or 3 times but I encountered a wider variety of dangerous wildlife there in those times than I have on any other courses combined. I killed a duck on what at the time was #17 of Kolomi.

I think it's hilarious that Shark defines his existence by an amateur sports team. Me? I am no where near mediocre.
The old Goodyear coarse in Gadsden was sold to the members and changed the name to River Trace. It has now been sold to Alabama Cherokee Tribe for development. No one knows exactly what they intend to do with it. But it would be big bingo parlor, 103 acres.
I've just decided that from now on I'm going to imagine that "Shark" is either Mr. United or Josh Moon just coming in here to elicit a reaction and then sit back and laugh.
Norm, you're right. Don't they say something about simple things entertaining simple minds?
Sniff.
Jet, are you frying fish in here? Sure smells like it.
Someone light a candle.
Salsa - go back under the bridge you TROLL BASTAGE!
Also, let the record state that just like their "tradition" the link Shark posted doesn't exist.
A flame on a candle needs oxygen to exist. Cut off the oxygen and the flame goes out. A flamer on the other hand needs attention, cut out the attention and the flamer goes away.
How old is Shark?? His comments make him seem like a immature child.
So who thinks the Braves will actually win a couple during this next homestand?
Some neat news.
Got this on the campus e-newsletter communication today.
Auburn student places third in wheelchair tennis tournament
An Auburn student recently played in the Cajun Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Baton Rouge, La. He won his first two matches and lost in the semifinals to place third. The Program for Students with Disabilities office is actively pursuing more recreation opportunities for Auburn students with disabilities.
War Eagle to that!
Luv, I would tell you, but "Shark" hasn't even allowed his profile to go live or fill in any valid information. So just take his word for it that he's a nobody with nothing better to do. Age is irrelevant.

Sensi, great tidbit. I'm glad there are good folks giving these people and a chance to be competitive.
Sean, there are a lot of people who do things at Auburn for the good of the student body who deserve the kind of cheering reserved for Saturdays.
On that we agree.
Wheelchair tennis? I can't even begin to think how tough that would be to play! I mean the thought alone of trying to get to the ball, much less hit it in a chair boggles my mind.
Tommy, rule no. 1 in Wheelchair tennis...you get 2 bounces.
I thought when i first swa the headlines WOW they are rally going after the REC. but not so.

Special agents with the Alabama Department of Revenue raided Crown Motors locations in Gadsden, Fort Payne and Anniston this morning as well as the accounting firm of Kirkland and Co., according to the department.
The agents had court-issued search warrants and were "getting records," according to Eddie Crumbley, director of investigations for the department.
Crumbley said the agents were assisted by agents with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies.
Agents prevented people from entering or leaving the locations temporarily until all the information they wanted was collected, Crumbley said.
Crumbley declined further comment, saying it would not be appropriate at this time.
Agents still were at Crown Motors in Gadsden Thursday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the Alabama Department of Revenue said the department collects almost 50 different state taxes including sales tax, business privilege taxes, gasoline taxes and corporate and personal income taxes.
Phone calls to Crown in Gadsden and Kirkland were not answered this morning.
2 bounces.. wow, that still would mean it'd be basically impossible for me to do.
Pray for the country, gang. It may not be here much longer.
Sensi, why do you say that?
Because he has learned of the imminent plans of a Eurasian invasion.
This invasionJust kidding.
The financial responsibilities of BOTH controlling parties are sending the country down the road of no return, I fear.
digger- i did not know that about the goodyear course. Played it many times growing up in Gadsden. I was a member at Briarmeade in Glencoe. it is still there as far as I know.
Financial responsibility and politicians do not mix. I still maitain that there is some sort of energy field around DC that removes all the common sense and regular sensibility from any person that happens to be a representative of the people.
mrtommyd, it's called GREED.
It's a field of Greed?

Briarmesde is still open, they did some much needed repair last year.

Anybody see where Charles Barkley hit a Bammer fan with a golf ball at the Regions pro-am?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUuhyzFSa7k
Beating Bama on a walk? Priceless!!!
Chocolate - that's excellent. Any AU or true golf fan would've known better to be anywhere near Barkley when he's teeing off.
Dangit! I'll have to wait until I get home to see that video!
Yeah, if I were going to watch Barkley play golf, I would be behind him. Of course, I would encourage the majority of Bammers to stand exactly where that guy was standing.
Sensi ...
You have an email in your Yahoo acct.
ElTurbo sent me the following message:
"I'm playing NCAA. Tommy Trott just dropped a pass."
And the next play ...
"Oh, my gosh. We're at the 30, I see young Thomas Trott running wide open. I hit him in stride at the 5, and he tries to dive in and fumbles."
This is the most realistic video game ever.
Does he then smack young Tommy Trott in the chest with the blocking pad and shout "NO DROPS"?
Yes, smashing a 42 inch HD he got for Christmas in the process.
But you must achieve team discipline, so it's a small price to pay.
We all play a part and no personal sacrifice is too small for the overall success.
Senate debating to give final passage to build to set up authority to build new Statehouse.
We have all probably been wondering what our offense will look like this coming season. To feed my football needs during this dark period I am watching Penn State vs Ohio State on the Big10 on demand. I do think we will see something similar to what Penn State is running.
The Barkley video is up on al.com right now.
Ping-Smack! HAHA!
So, what club is appropriate for whacking a Bama fan with a golf ball?
I'm 6'-3" and struggled with too short golf clubs for years. I went into a golf shop in Scottsdale, Az. to buy a new set. The shop owner convinced me to regrip with a 1/2" extension and change the upright angle (lie) of the club. I spent around $100 and salvaged a set of Ping eye2 square groove clubs. The refitted clubs each hit 5 yds further.
Steve ...
Any club that's in your hands.
For some reason that move Animal House keeps coming to mind.
That's incredible.
I don't think I've laughed this hard since Bruce Arians called the "Fat Freddy Pirouette Swing Pass" in 1997.
Well, except maybe for catching a look of that dude on TV after Byrum kicked the FG again against Coarch Urban Meyers.
I carry the PGA allowed limit of clubs in my bag. I'd highly recommend using every club in your bag at least once until you settle upon your own personal favorite to be used for this purpose. It's all in course management when you're on the course so in this matter it may be that a different club serves your purposes better depending on the specific UAT fan/target. i.e., if the target in question happens to be the stereotypical fat redneck type, you may find that whatever brand of large driver you use to be the best club here. However, if your target happens to be a set of blond twins then I'd suggest using something more delicate like your groove brush or towel. And with those targets in mind, you should repeat the process often.
Sorry, if they're friends of any around here ...
Dubbabubba Twins = Publicity-Seeking Skanks
As to what club, it really depends on the lie.
If it's a toothless cousin humper from Russellville that's never attended UAT, I'd use one of those new hybrids. But that's because I can't hit a 3-iron.
Jet - I'd rather see those two than the two (before one died) fat RTR dudes. I'm just sayin'. If they're gonna show anyone consistently, my preference would be for attractive blondes. Though it would probably be more entertaining for the cameras to track down Drunk Rena the Ramp Lady but I don't see that happening.
I'd rather see the fat dudes
They are apostate children of Auburn graduates... Jezebel skanks.
Quote of the day in the Senate:
"You know, I can't stand fighting on the last day of the Senate," State Senator Charles Bishop.
i am proud of the senate, they finally passed the gourmet beer bill. I can now drink real beers.
That quote is the epitome of irony.
From the Huntsville Times on the "Houndstooth Twins ..."
About the only thing that bothers them is when fans pepper them with trivia questions.
Says Maegen: "We're supposed to know everything about Bear Bryant - when did he die, the stuff about the national championships he won, different dates. Then they'll get frustrated if we don't know. We say we never claimed to know.''
Since I no longer live in The State of Surprises, someone please tell me what this "free the hops"/gourmet beer bill is. I've probably asked this previously and it was probably answered but since it doesn't directly affect me I guess I chose to forget.
Call me crazy, but I don't find the $puat twins attractive at all. They both look like they got a good smack in the face with and 2x4 ugly stick.
Laws in AL Limited beers to 6% alcohol or less. many of higher end craft beers and belgium and german beers are over 6% alcohol. Now they can be sold in this state. we edged out Mississippi as the last state in the country to pass this law
If I owned a business, I'd carry a sign for said business to the games and be sure I was always near those two. That'd be some nice free pub there I think. Instead, I do not own a business but work for the man so I will not advertise for him since my employer does very well without my advertising efforts.
Harrison - they did??!!! What's the time frame on our beer selection improving? I have spent way too much money in TN and TX this year stocking up on stuff we can't get in AL, and was planning on doing the same thing in GA next month.
I here we are in danger of a "pocket veto" of the Free the Hops Bill. I don't think we are out of the woods yet.
Miller - wow. To each his/her own I guess. Obviously, I don't think they're bad at all.
chocolate- it passed yesterday. Gov Riley has up to like 6-10 days to sign it, then it wil be official. I drive to Columbus,GA monthly to stock up on "real beer"
Thanks for the 411 Harrison.
michael- Riley signed a law recently that upped the alcohol percentage in wine that can be sold in AL.
The "411" being that you answered my question.
miller- i also they they are fugly
How do these recently enacted laws impact the Wine Cooler industry favored by Michael?
Maybe its the houndstooth hat they wear, but I don't think either of them is pretty in the face.
Decent little bodies... Not much else.
You would think if he signed the wine bill then he would sign the beer bill as well.
Yeah, but the difference is what is wrong with the beer we got? It drank good.
I guess if the Hops are Freed, then it won't require as many beers to convince yourself that it's OK to think those Skanks are anything other than what they are.
I hate UAT.
it dranks pretty good. if you like ice cold pee
I guess you wouldn't be impressed to read that I'm currently enjoying a Miller Lite on my leather chair at home while on a con-call.
yes. i would rather be doing that. i'd rather drink miller lite than no beer at all.
I heard the SPUAT twins have E.Zachary syndrome. Symptoms include a face that looks E Zachary like my @$$.
How expensive will this new fangled beer be? I don't mind maxing out at about 9 bucks or so for Newcastle and the like, but does the super alcohol beer cost much more than that?
I heard one of the UAT twins went to the grocery store late one night and bought one gossip magazine, one pint of Blue Bell ice cream, and one bottle of red wine. The young man ringing up her groceries commented that she must be single. She then asked, "Could you tell that by the itmes I purchased?" He responded, "No, I could tell because you are effing ugly."
WILLED!!!!!!!
michael- some of it can get well up around 20 bucks for a 6-pack, but there are plenty you can get for the same price as Newcastle or Sam Adams
one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
56
Will- didn't you buy those exact items for our trip to the lake this weekend??
"Its a shame............
.....what happened to Jane."
Jane, you're playin' a game you never can win girl.
Are you guys talking about Jane Goodall again?
Antidote to any infatuation with houndstooth hat-wearing, bleached-blonde bimbos:
Much betta
Well done SC... Now, she is attractive!
Much, much betta.
D. Miller ...
Bad news ... the Legislature has adjourned sine die.
Jet,
You getting ready to celebrate the last day of session?
I will celebrate by assisting Mrs. Jet prepare for the family graduation party for ElTurbo tomorrow afternoon/evening.
Yee ha.
I haven't looked to see if this has been linked here yet but it's freaking great...looks likely Barkley pegged a cousin humper..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUuhyzFSa7k&feature=channel_page
A question for Jay G ...
Are the HABOTN FAQs available in compiled version other than in the archives?
The golfing rules should really be changed for the Barkley situation. It shouldn't cost you are stroke if you ping a Bama fan.
I feel kinda bad for liking that video so much..the guy is probably an aight dude but still..gotta love it!!
scottie chocolattie
In response to your link of the AU cheerleader I giveth you the bammer cheerleader:
Click Here For the bammer SI cheerleader of the weekClick @ your own risk.
Steve ...
You are absolutely correct. The shot is known as a "Bamagan." You can replay from the original spot, or any spot of your choosing without penalty.
Xaff, arrgghh...well, you warned me! Now I've gotta go back and look at the AU one again so I don't start my weekend off on the wrong foot. Take care of yourself over there!
Jet, "any spot of your choosing" - excellent! Perhaps this will encourage all AU golfers to strive for Bamagans. There is the risk of missing and having your ball end up out of bounds, etc., but the double reward would be so worth it.
Sorry, just looked up the "Bamagan" rule. Here it is.
If a legally played shot strikes a UAT fan, player, coach, employee, or any one person or object with the taint of the Infidels, you have the following options:
a. Play the ball as it lies, preferably between the eyes of the Infidel; or
b. Any one of the following:
1. The original spot; or
2. The 150-yard marker; or
3. Adjacent to the nearest cart girl; or
4. Any spot of your choosing.
Okay, now I will start my weekend with a grin on my face! I love knowing the official Bamagan rule. Perhaps I'll hand out flyers to the players at The Regions this weekend so they can refamiliarize themselves before starting their rounds.

MrSec.com rates Rollison as the #2 freshman QB in the SEC. How likely is Malzahn to decide to go with the guy with the hopes of developing a four year starter at QB?
ESPN reports that JC Watts is being paid over $600k to lobby congress on behalf of the BCS.
I guess the BCS must be all about $$$ and not the sportsmanship of playng for a championship????
Those bowls are supposed to be non profit/charity type organizations. It's one of the arguments for keeping the bowls. Where did the $$$ originate???
can you get "arrogant bastard ale" in bama? it's a pretty good beer.
sorry that i, not will, killed the thread.
Scott.....Go easy on yourself, we're in the CFB doldrums....threads die on their own.
scott- no not currently, but with the new law passed we should be able to get it soon.
it is a very good beer
i always loved reading the label: "you're probably moving your lips as you read this...'
I asked someone today who has a good feel for the Gov's attitude, and they said it was close whether the Free the Hops legislation would be signed or vetoed.
So it ain't over yet.
I'm glad the only thing I missed today was golf talk.
Omni - after looking through the email again and seeing the only cheerleading related picture, I'm no longer inclined to be flattered.
I'm not sure what you're talking about. I said I wanted to see you in a cheer leader uni because one of your posts yesterday read like a chant.
so, suit up! :-)
Hmm. Okay. I don't remember it specifically so I'll go back to flattered.
GaTiger's got cheerleader legs 'cause he runs so much.
But if he's runnin' 16 miles tomorrow, well, his calves will be bigger than Gus'.
There's a visual for you, Monica.
