Auburn still messing with Texas
Not too shabby ... considering he hasn't visited or corresponded with anyone from Auburn.
"I was really shocked," Calhoun told AuburnSports.com. ``I was like 'Wow. This is for me and I haven't even talked to them or anything.' It felt good."
IN OTHER RECRUITING NEWS OF NOTE:
- Another Texas OT, Daryl Williams, has received an offer from Auburn. Unlike Calhoun, who remains popular mostly in his home state, Williams has drawn offers from a wider array of schools. Even Alabama is on him.
- CB Demarcus Milliner of Stanhope Elmore High visited coach Gene Chizik on campus last week. Chizik told Milliner, the nation's top-rated cornerback according to Rivals.com, that he can start immediately at Auburn in 2010. We know this because AuburnSports.com tells us so.

Make it flip again, Daddy
Wouldn't it be better if they had talked to this OT guy before sending in the offer?
mmm...chocolate shot glasses
that's creepy, Jet

That's a big dude - If Buffalo Connection still has all you can eat wings on Mondays, they better hope he doesn't commit.
Will one of you pass me the cliff's notes for today's post? Thanks.
Only if you have a dirty mind, Monaker.
Sensi ...
Cliff Notes from me:
I hate UAT.
A very eclectic day today Sensi.
*blush*
I was in Eclectic over the weekend. It was raining.
I saw The Auburn Pope last year.
Awesome get-up. If I lived in Manchester, I'd totally wear something like that before the MUFC games ... provided my priest didn't consider it a sacrilege.
I would submit he might consider using the acronym MUFC a sacrilege.
I'm generally not comfortable with CFB coaches telling HS students that they can start immediately. I normally asociate this with slimy coaches. Am I naive?
Scott Chocolate,
I had forgotten all about the Alamo. That place got Huge quick, then kind of fizzled.
Harry's was the place to be by the time my days were coming to a close. Halloween night 1987 was CRAZY in that joint.
It amazes me that there are kids at Auburn who have never been to the Supper Club.
For a truly eclectic HABOTN experience...Michael, Will and Harrison would show up about now.
Almost any OL signee with some talent will get immediate playtime, if not on offense, at least on special teams.
That's pretty much a given. I don't think there's coachspeak involved in that.
Was Harry's the place on College that had the $2.00 32 oz Long Island Iced Teas? If not, what was that place, and can I go there now?
I got to AU and it was the Blocked Punt and Casino. When I left 5 years later, it was Darvo's, Hungry Hunter and the original 2 story bar at Toomer's. Supper Club has impressive longevity.
I don't know anybody who ever went to Harry's, but I know a ton who ended up there.
pssst..
Bobby Lowder just announced retirement from Colonial.
Linkie.
According to Rivals....the coach speak was to the DB.
Harry's was out on the A-O parkway, near the Dean Road intersection.
I think The Alamo got busted one too many times for admitting under-aged people. Not completely related to that, but at least once when I was there, they ran out of beer and sent a patron out with some money to buy them some more at a grocery or convenience store.
I doubt that Harry's ever made anyone a Long Island Iced Tea. If you wanted a beer, you were in luck.
It was a hole in the wall joint with pool tables and a juke box that had "He stopped loving her today" on continual loop.
The disclaimers and qualifications at the end of the Colonial Bank retirement announcement read like the same for an investment prospectus.
Torberts/Greely's/Bottchers had the fantastic Long Island Iced Teas.
Waldo Peppers had the 3 for 1's that would put you in a coma.
Harry's = Longnecks.
Hungry Hunter = gold chains and pointy disco shoes
Harold's El Sophisticado
Hungry Hunter was a scene out of a 70's porn. Well, out of what I would imagine a 70's porn would look like.
Bow chicka wow wow
THTjr arrived home an hour ago. I suspect he will be sound asleep by the time I get home in another 3 hrs.
Jay GT- thanks for sharing the TX recruiting news. That's about as far as Miami and we used to recruit there pretty good.
WARRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
p.s. we're still pals with Dear Leader, right?
So which one was on College, on the left, headed north from Denaro's? It was hot around '86-'87. I think it was open under a couple of names, then closed before I left AU in '89.
Headed toward 280 in the Super 8 was Waldo Pepper's when I was a freshman. Can't remember the next name.
There was a bar in the hotel on the left headed out toward I-85 near the old KA house.
Can't remember that one either.
Damn beer kills brain cells. You'd think they would've recovered by now.
Aubie - you're clearly not recalling "The Buffalo Theory". Towit:
"...it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo and when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive drinking of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
It's driving me crazy trying to think of the name of that bar. As Homer would say, "Ah, alcohol - the cause of and solution to all the world's problems". I know I got this place confused with Harry's for some reason. I'm pretty sure I went there a few times, too (or as Jet said, "ended up there"). I believe there was a "Harvey's" at one point on College. Maybe that's what replaced Waldo Pepper's.
I am dying for football season. Jay, could you talk to all the Auburn and Alabama players and have an unofficial Iron Bowl this summer that isn't sponsored by the universities?
There is 50 bucks in unmarked bills waiting for you if you can make it happen.
Okay, how about 50 pounds of unmarked nachos. Help a fellow out here.
Love the buffalo theory!
So what you're saying is...
“Every morning in Alabama, a brain cell wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest beer or it will be killed. Every morning in Alabama , a beer wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest brain cell, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a brain cell or a beer - when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”
i remember gooing to hungry hunter and supper club. there was also a place that showed movies and sold beer and food. really enjoyed seeing the movie"rocky horror picture show" there.
"gooing"? probably meant going.
Scott - I saw RHPS there too. They had little round table with chairs all around. It was a big deal then to be able to get beer and a movie.
Way to go Jet. YOu turned this whole thread into an 80's thread. It's hard to have any input in this when you were the age of 3 - 13 during that time.
Eddie,
Your input of slow dancing to Madonna's "Crazy for You" at the 7th grade dance is always welcome.
Sorry.

So, what is the big news comming out tomorrow? It looks like something that will excite most Auburn fans is coming out tomorrow. Seems to be confirmed by most in the know. I'm trying to figure out what it is. Any theories?
Brethren,
Let me point ya to the Good Book, which says in Acts that we should recruit in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the Earth.
So if they've got an offensive tackle at Samaria High, let's go get 'em.
As far as messing with Texas goes, if Auburn gets a good share of that state's high caliber players because the ones in this state want to go to Hadesaloosa, fine by me!
Like the good book says (sorta), "Those who crave Satan and his ways will be given over to him and burn in the lake of fire."
Burn, baby, burn. And welcome to the Heart of Dixie ye from the Lonestar State.
Monica loves the new Sensi.
Mon - regarding your kind offer earlier; since I like you we'll go $0.50 on the dollar offered.
Nice article on coach Thigpen. At least he is saying the right things. I think he will enjoy the first Tiger Walk.
http://www.oanow.com/oan/sports/college/article/au_football_coming_to_auburn_never_a_question_for_thigpen/74238/
I'll learn how to link one day.
Sensi is going to need a new name soon :)!!!! I like the 2.0 version also.
You're too good to me, Norm.
Theory here is that it will be announced Rollison has qualified tomorrow.
A note from my perspective.
I saw a group of students walking to and from summer classes today. A couple of them were wearing t-shirts that read:
Chizik Republic
I think that is awesome!
And frankly, for what it's worth, I don't give a damn if RivalsBammer.com thinks a player can or should start or not. I'm more interested in whether Chizik and Roof think that.
Sorry the link did not work. Just go to http://www.tigerland.com/
and click on the Opelika-Auburn News link.
This is a good site to get all articles that auburn is mentioned.
Don't think me humorless; I get what Jay G. was saying about the Rivals stuff in the post.
I'm just not really worried about their assessment of Auburn football present or future.
I don't expect you to be humorless, Mr. S. I expect this thread to die.
Well, I won't be here to resuscitate it. I'm crashing real early tonight sports fans. Probably a big mistake. I'll probably wake up at 2 ready for work.
Sweet dreams. Hate bama!
just kidding. I haven't even had my ice cream yet.
wtc- thanks for the link to Thigpen. I was briefly FB friends with Mrs Thigpen until I wised up and abandoned FB.
I just want sharks with laser beams. Is that too much to ask?
Someone throw Norm a frickin' bone.
attached to your head?
We need a Thursday night uprisin'!
ANybody watchung the AU-Vandy ganeon ESPN classic. AU up 13-0. I was just clicking through it. No need to watch.
well you folks aren't worth a damn in an uprisin'
WTC ...
I wasn't watching that. If I tune in time, maybe I can see Chris Todd's punt out of the end zone.
Rise up! Rise up!
Mon - I'm too old and too tired for a good uprising. Intellectually, I may be all for it but I just can't fully commit to it. If I can't go into it feeling that I can give it my all, I probably should sit it out. I don't want to disappoint you, my loyal followers, or myself.
I decided the NBA was better. In fact I may even help with some ironing inorder to keep from watching that mess.
I'm here at the Hangar by myself. I can rock and roll all night.
Thank you, Mr. I Finally Came To My Senses (hottie formerly known as Sensi).
But can you party everyday, Jet?
Once upon a time, Mr. S. Once upon a time.
Mon,
You have called Jet and I to the Hottie Cave. What's up?
why watch AU Vandy or NBA when you could be watching You've Got Mail on whatever network is our Channel 33... Lifesomethingorother?
Good grief. If I have to instruct you on an uprisin you're really not uprisin material. Sheesh. High maintenance men.
espn classic is scraping the bottom of the barrel with that one even by vandy standards. i pity them having to watch the AU offense again to try and enjoy a vandy win.
oh yes, Mrs THT can confirm I'm REAL high maintenance.
This comment has been removed by the author.
every time a see tht's avatar i want AU to start a hockey team. they would win the sec every year by default.
Here's an uprising for you ...
I cannot wait for football season. I hated that I missed the A-Day game, then had the misfortune to tune in to "IncestFest" -- their spring game. But it reminds me why they're them, and why we must eradicate them.
I just want to find me one of those AU hockey sweaters. I need to get back to googlin'
it's like trying to get rid of cockroaches. you'll never get 'em all...
Hottie Cave - me likey
I'm guessing roller hockey isn't an NCAA sport?
I can see their "Got 24?" T-shirts for roller derby.
Count de Monet: It is said that the people are revolting.
King Louis XVI: You said it! They stink on ice!
National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association
http://www.ncrha.org
at least AU wouldn't have to worry about keeping a frozen rink
we should devise a "bammer hotel" where they go in but never come out. you could use a picture of the bahr and the sound of eli gold's voice to lure them in.
What's a Lindenwood?
National Division 1 semifinals:
Lindenwood 10
Michigan St. 5
Missouri-St.Louis beat Lindenwood for the title.
The tournament was held in Feasterville, PA.
Are they making this stuff up?
lindenwood lions
www.lindenwood.edu
looks like a roller hockey mecca...
i imagine roller hockey to be a hybrid of lacrosse, hockey and roller derby which is only popular in missouri.
What's a henway?
About 6 pounds.
And with that and my earlier attempted contribution to the uprising/revolt, I must leave you now.
Good night, sleep tight and may your dreams come true. Fare thee well, au revoir, auf wiedersehen.
actually, roller hockey is very much like hockey and it is the most fun sport I've ever played. Unfortunately, I only got to play one spring/summer in ~1995 :-(
IMO, man was made to be on wheels, not skinny metal blades.
College Roller Hockey
GiveYourURL a Name Here which includes the FLorida Gators
GiveYourURL a Name Here which includes the likes of VTech, UNC, SCar, GaTech, FSU, Miami, etc
oops, First link is Division 1
2nd link is Division 2
Just got back from dinner with my new BFF, Trooper Taylor. I'll fill in the details tomorrow. I am in the throes of a serious mancrush. He was suitably impressed that I have 4 years of eligibility left. Pictures will be forthcoming on FB.
Can't wait to hear about it j-z! WAR EAGLE!!!
Mar 13, 2009 post on some blog:
"Ole Miss has a hockey team which will be competing in 20 games come Fall 2009 season. Auburn is now the only SEC school without a [club] team."
AU did have club ice hockey about 25 years ago. Not sure how long it existed, but they were in a league with GaTech. I think Tech still plays ice hockey.
maybe they can configure the new arena to have a rink. they could have hockey games on friday nights before football home games. it may get better attendance than basketball...
roller hockey would be a much cheaper sport. Ice hockey would be nothing more than a club sport, which means I'm sure AU wouldn't go to the expense of a rink. UA-T's hockey "home" is in Pelham.
Did Trooper ask about me?????
Mon- if he didn't, he needs to reorder his priorities
Mrs THT is sound asleep. Do I watch the rest of You've Got Mail?
well, I finished watching it while waiting for an answer, but now without a channel surf to try and find something worth watching...
57 channels and nothin' on
You're the best, THT. Nobody appreciates me like you do.
Have you ever watched Head Case? It's on right now and keeping me company as I continue this mind numbing research on financial literacy.
instead of going to bed early, it looks like I've put everyone else to sleep.
Hi Mon- nope, now watching Jay Leno monologue
THT,
No you shouldn't.
Mon,
He did not, but if the price is right, I do have his cell phone number.
Some tidbits...
He said Justin Albert will most likely be returning punts and kickoffs next year.
He is very high on Terrell Zachary. CTT said he did everything he could to make him give up and quit, and Zachary came through it all like a champ.
He did say that none of Auburn's current QB's or WR's would be good enough to have started at OSU last year. He said they will get there, but they weren't there yet. He was pretty blunt about where we are offensively.
I am also the proud recipient of a CTT chest bump.
It's wicked funny and on Starz. Channel 354.
I don't think I have starz.
j-z - it doesn't take a football coach to realize our QBs and WRs aren't even close to the talent OSU had last season.
I don't know about anyone else, but I so hope JZ is joking about the chest bump thing. I think I blushed with embarrassment for him when I read that.
Buy his phone number? Me call him? I don't think so. He knows where to find me.
If J-Z didn't get a chest bump out of Trooper, well, I'm gonna deal with him.
Well, I know that sure makes him nervous...
300+Cribbs
300 plus James Brooks, and I am outta here.
300 + Tre Smith and I've got an hour of Frazier on Lifetime channel
THT I LOVE Frazier.
I do too. It's so funny!
Frazier has to be one of the best spin-off series of all-time. I didn't realize it came on Lifetime, thanks for the tip.
totally agree, depressed
two episodes, back to back, every night at 11:00 Eastern
Well, it is tomorrow here. Everything is as usual. Bummer.
Good Morning Hotties!!!!!!! TGIF!!!!
two episodes back to back starting at midnight eastern time
new thread is up
About to read an article on Todd on undercover about how he is gearing up for the season. Let the fun begin. This quarterback fight in the fall will be entertaining.
A couple of things. I think the bad start in the first game last season could be attributed to the QB shuffle. It wasn't a game we were going to lose.
After reading the Todd article on Auburn Undercover, I predict he will be the starter and Burns will be the backup.
