Auburn baseball already repairing

Hey everyone. Give John Pawlowski credit: He's working quickly to fill the Tigers' most obvious hole. Auburn today signed a junior-college pitcher, Drew Madrigal of Mt. San Jacinto (Calif.) JC, to challenge for a rotation spot next season.

Surely Auburn will be auditioning for every rotation and bullpen slot next season.

Auburn finished its regular season with a 6.12 ERA.

How bad is that?

Here are Auburn's team ERAs for the past 15 years:

2009 -- 6.12
2008 -- 4.86
2007 -- 4.59
2006 -- 5.14
2005 -- 3.87
2004 -- 4.83
2003 -- 4.22
2002 -- 4.85
2001 -- 4.05
2000 -- 5.31
1999 -- 4.94
1998 -- 4.74
1997 -- 4.30
1996 -- 4.74
1995 -- 3.53
1994 -- 3.85

Anyway, here's what Auburn publicist Dan Froehlich reports:
Recognized as a 2009 Junior College All-American, Madrigal went 9-4 on
the mound with a 3.39 ERA in 15 starts, striking out a team-best 138 in
106 1/3 innings. Throwing seven complete games, he surrendered just 78
hits and 39 walks on the year and held opponents to a .204 batting
average against. At the plate, he hit .404 in 166 at bats, hitting a
team-high seven home runs and driving in a team-best 48 runs. He was
also named a First Team All-Foothill Conference selection as a freshman
and sophomore.

Incredibly, Auburn wasn't last among SEC with that putrid ERA.

It's 10th.

Jay, that speaks volumes on why Auburn has missed the SEC tournament 6 years in a row.

Only question now is how high will this guy go in the draft? Will even step foot on the AU campus?

Of course Doug is going to talk about Dan Mullen's comments on The Roundtable.

It's something slamming Auburn.

Big shock.

For the record, I like John Pawlowski and think, with time, he can get this turned around on the Plains.

Do we really want to talk about Dan Mullen and his 2 cents? I mean really?

Nah, I'm just fussing about the show on a slow day.

Back to baseball...

12:51 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Well anyone who knows anything about baseball knows that it starts with pitching. Anyone who knows anything about recruiting knows you have to try and sign the best players in your state. Why are these three guys going to MSU?

12:52 PM
Blogger Cory said...

Dan Mullen will need a lot more than limos to recruit players to that you know what hole.

Are there anymore big bats leaving other than Ben Jones and Joseph Sanders?

I hope Auburn improves. It hurts Bama's RPI when they stink like they did in football and baseball this year.

Ya'll should go to a Miss. St. board and post 3-2 on them!

You know, like 36-0!It should be your battle cry as Auburn fights Miss. St. for the cellar of the SEC West.

It's funny to me that Auburn beat Alabama more times in baseball.

I suspect that at least 2 of the 3 best pitchers in the State of Alabama will go pro.

The trick to college baseball recruiting is to identify and get the best players that aren't going to go pro.

Salsa, everyone knows about your little 36-0 and at this point nobody cares. You can spam it all up and down this board and I still won't care. I watched the game, it's water under the bridge at this point.

I gotta give Carl his props. The "Ya'll should go to a Miss. St. board and post 3-2 on them!" was pretty darn funny.

Do they even have limos available in Mississippi? I was under the impression Mullen was forced to travel across the state in a tractor.

I don't know if awesome is the right word for it. The bragging on a scale would be between 10 and 12. I don't know which number is more impressive to UAT-ers. They like them both SO much.

I'll grasp tightly to my #6. It's the only thing that keeps me employed and breathing for that matter. Shoot, I doubt the sun would have come up this morning if it weren't for that streak.

Come to think of it, I think 60-75% of UAT fans could be Teddy Ruxpin. 12 National Championships, 10 Iron Bowls in a row, Bear Bryant, S the Coach, Roll Tide...END OF TAPE. Rewind. Press Play again. Same story over and over.

I remember always wanting Teddy Ruxpin because of those commercials when I was little. Then, I met a friend who owned a Teddy Ruxpin. It turned out to be really boring and a little bit creepy. Basically, that's life in a a nutshell.

2:48 PM
Blogger shesaid said...

I always held the Teddy Ruxpin's mouth closed. Of course, that broke it but the story carried right along. Yes, Michael, you are right. Just like life.

2:49 PM
Blogger michael said...

I think that a pretty cool tattoo would be you holding Teddy Ruxpin's mouth closed while both of you ride a unicorn.

2:54 PM
Blogger Monica said...

Michael - Didn't you say you couldn't find any posts of your own that were odd?

2:56 PM

Mr. Ruxpin and I would prefer to ride a shark in our tattoo, please and thanks!

2:57 PM

Mon - he's busy at work debunking his own theory.

2:57 PM
Blogger michael said...

Yeah. I investigated myself and found no odd posts. Are you questioning my investigation techniques, Monica?

2:57 PM
Blogger michael said...

shesaid, I thought about including a shark in my tattoo description, but I thought it would already scare people enough with that Ruxpin fellow involved. If you guys were riding a shark, I think Harrison would pee his pants every time he saw the tattoo (which would go on your forehead, by the way)

2:59 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

My sister had Teddy Ruxpin. Ours told us to burn things

2:59 PM
Blogger Monica said...

3:01 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

you can't ride a shark anyway. that's just dumb. How are you gonna breathe, that bear wouldn't work underwater. How long til the shark eats both of you?

3:01 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Harrison, I think you're incorrect. Didn't Jabberjaws give rides?

3:05 PM
Blogger michael said...

Harrison, the "How to start campfires using your parents cigarette lighter" cassette was one of the worst received tapes issued by Ruxpin, Inc. Of course, nothing tops the 1988 Ruxpin release titled, "How the Princess Declawed her cat with a Butter Knife"

3:05 PM
Blogger michael said...

Maybe we can compromise and shesaid's tattoo can be of her and the hand-muzzled Ruxpin riding a house cat with nubs.

3:08 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

I'm sure Jabberjaws was gay and vegetarian along with that one cartoon cat that talked all sissy-like.

i like the unicorn idea. Or on the back of a bigfoot

3:09 PM
Blogger michael said...

Doesn't Bigfoot walk upright? That'd be more like a piggy back ride. I am just not sure that makes a very good tattoo.

3:12 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

well then I will prove you wrong

3:13 PM
Blogger michael said...

It's on, then. You get to put your tattoo on one shesaid arm, I get to put my version on the other, and she gets to choose the winner.

One time when I was little some burglars tried to break into my house and steal some stuff after my parents accidentally left me at home by myself while they went to Europe. One of the things I did to protect my house was heat up the front door handle using a red hot iron, and one of the burglars touched it, and it left a permanent mark on his hand.

Does that count as a tattoo? If not, the best tattoo I ever gave was when I stabbed my friend with a pencil in the leg in eighth grade. He still has the graphite mark to this day. I still have the one he gave me in my hand. This, unlike my home alone story, is actually true.

3:26 PM
