Summer reset

Hey everyone. Sorry for the lack of content here lately, but it's that time of year when almost nothing is going down at Auburn.

I plan to do some stuff with the various summer football functions -- voluntary workouts and prospect camps -- but we need more than than to get us into late July.

I can do scouting reports on Auburn's top 25 players or so. I'll probably run that beginning June 8th. That's sure to generate some commentary, but I'm still looking for ideas to supplement that.

So now it's on you, HOTTIES. What do you want to read?

THE BASEBALL CONUNDRUM: Your Auburn Tigers ended their regular season with a series win (2 to 1) against Alabama. The Tigers are 31-25 overall, 11-19 against Southeastern Conference teams.

Yuck, right?

The thing is: Auburn's RPI, the offical version from the NCAA, had John Pawlowski's team ranked No. 40 last week. The Tigers took two from Alabama and one from Georgia Southern since then. It's reasonable to assume Auburn will jump to No. 35 or so when the new numbers are released tomorrow.

Will that be enough to make the NCAA Tournament?

I don't think so, either. That hasn't stopped some people from speculating that Auburn's season may resume next week.

Thanks for the updates, Jay G.

I'd enjoy reading/commenting about the top players. Will that include returners as well as new ones? (I assumed so, but wanted to make sure.)

Additionally, I'd enjoy reading a compare and contrast on members of the new coaching staff with the old ones.

JGT, the truth of the matter is we would read anything that is even tangentially involved with football. It's May, for crying out loud, and we have lived without a game since January.

My ears perked up yesterday when I heard a woman say that a kindergartner was a pretty good quarterback but he could use a good offensive line.

Brethren,

Heed the Word ...

If Jay G is hungry, we must feed him.

If Jay G is naked, we must clothe him (with a HABOTN shirt)

If Jay G is sick, we must comfort him.

If Jay G is in prison, we must visit him.

And, one day, if HABOTN must convert to a pay site, then let us heed the Word and bear one another's burdens.

Let's all stand and sing hymn No. 244, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Hottie."

I'm really not suggesting that this become a pay site.

Newspapers, as a genre, soon must start charging for online content. There is no other way to keep us around more than five years.

I won't be ready to retire in five years.

The thing that has damaged the media over the past three decades is the conglomerate.

The bottom line is that the web sites will fall victim to the same either through ownership, or through some sort of access portal like your cable provider.

Consumers won't like the idea of having to pay 20 different sites, so you'll end up paying one vendor that will provide you the access to the places you choose off a menu.

At least that's what I think.

Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Paying for online content seems like the way to go for newspapers, but I still don't believe that will do enough unfortunately. I do have a subscription to the AJC here in Atlanta, but only for coupons. I could care less about local news and I know that it would not entice me to pay for online local newspaper content when I can get all the news I really care about from the big media players such as Fox News, CNN, etc. I'm curious to see how things work in a few years.

Doug's fate was sealed at the 0-42 game when he used the cheerleader mic to chastise the student section for throwing oranges at UT. The students responded with a chorus of boos.

Doug was right though....throwing frozen oranges "isn't what Auburn people do".

For the record...I didn't throw one, then again I didn't have one to throw either.

Wasn't that game in '79 or '80? I was there and remember being surprised when the student section threw the oranges. I was 12 or 13 at the time, so might have thought it was cool a year or two later. I was also surprised at the huge butt-whoopin' we took. It seems that I remember that the crowd was the largest in AU history at the time. The first upper deck had just recently been added.

5:14 PM

When it comes to recruiting, I have several concerns. We seem to be going after star skill position players, but great teams mean having great guys in the trenches. I haven't seen a lot in terms of high profile linemen we are pursuing.

I am also kind of concerned with all the star power at tailback. We have a crap load of talent already and we are in the running for 4 of the best in the nation. If we don't get at least 1 of those, it has been time wasted on a position that isn't a critical need at the moment.

By the way, I am expecting Tate and Fannin to have outstanding seasons.

That is the best ya got? I can get it on the doorstep? There is a newspaper box across the street and I can walk and get it if need be. Charging for online content is the only way to recover. And I saw Gannett shut down an Arizona paper but keeping the website.

It's Gene Chizik day and nobody told me. Happy GC day, Hotties!

Congrats to Jet and WTC! The next graduation will come quickly.

I appreciate all of the congratulatory remarks. Jet and and I spoke briefly last night and are proud to put two more fine individuals into the AU family.

Happy Gene Chizik Day, everyone! I got my wife a box of chocolates to mark the occasion. Answer me this: what have you done today to make Gene Chizik Day special for your loved ones?

9:32 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

I got bowling shirts for me and the Mrs. We'll wear them out to go play putt putt tonight. Happy GC day!

How can the Auburn fan base continue to defend this laughable hire? Don't say his assistants either because they are all from mediocre programs or were losers at previous stops as well.

Is this really an upgrade over Tubs?

I think you all will rue the day this move was made the way Alabama did with Fran, Price, and Shula. Problem is, you have no tradition or support enough to go get a "Saban" of your own.

I feel sorry for you all, but at least you didn't hire that idiot Lane Kiffin. I guess Chiznik is better than that.

Roll Tide and have a good day!

I kicked my wife out of bed at 5am this morning and told her to get ready for work to help kick start this festive Gene Chizik Day. Gene Chizik would want us working hard while others sleep so that we can beat their butts come this fall.

Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

Eddie, as your wife was carrying her bowl of cereal to the table this morning did you punch her in the gut and yell "NO DROPS!!!!!!!!"?

may God be with you if you did.......but it would've been AUsome. ha.

I heard from a friend that Salsa Shark was raped by a St Bernard in honor of Gene Chizik day. I guess we all mark special occasions in different ways.

9:43 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Thanks for the words of wisdom Shark! I'll take that advice to heart and re-evaluate things I have aboslutely no control over!

9:43 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

And I'm glad that you took time out of your schedule to feel sorry for us, I mean life just couldn't continue if we had a mediocre football squad.

9:44 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Scottie- Not my wife, but my 3 year old daughter took it in the gut and amazingly kept all her cheerios together in the same bowl. She told me to tell everyone "War Eagle" this morning in this great celebration.

Michael- I heard he was later spotted at the pet store looking for more.

Michael, I heard it was consentual, and that they are living happily together in West Blocton and have become common law man and wife.

Happy Gene Chizik day, e'eryone.

While any day is a good day to hate bammers, Chizik day is a GREAT day to hate the cousin-humpers.

I think we should all move to a Gene Chizik avatar to celebrate this momentous occasion. We can all start rueing later.

For Gene Chizik Day (and all other lovely gift giving occasions), remember no gifts with electrical cords attached!

I just had some caramel cake in honor of GC day, and I dropped not a crumb.

I think that bodes well for the football season.

Harrison, Hole #5 is gorgeous!! Willie made a point of coming by when we were there and told us we had to go up to the top and take a look around. I played 29 holes and the most I've ever played is 18. I'm hurting today!

When is umpa lumpa day so UAT fans can have a day for their coach?

9:54 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

That was March 4th in honor of Oompa Loompas overall record against Auburn.

9:56 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

We can celebrate victory over UAT day on June 1st. That would be 6-1.

Everyday is Umpa Lumpa Day for them...at least that is what their coach told them.

Luv, I actually hate that hole. I think there are 17 great holes and 1 goofy hole. Although the view is awesome!

my record in a day is 45. wouldve played 54 but ran out of light

How many Gene Chizik pictures can we find to celebrate the day?

I LOVE those shirts. I think there is a "real" name for them. Anybody know it? Not bowling shirt, cabana shirt, camp shirt, etc. It's something else. Nat Nast makes some very cool ones. It's driving me crazy.

Finebaum, in an obvious effort to manipulate and enhance ratings is now slamming Lil' Nicky/Urban Cryer b/c of their absolute power. Although his points are solid, his motive is transparent.

Happy Gene Chizik day...hug every AU family member you encounter today.

Salsa: has gone to the dogs. Michael thanks for keeping us informed. JGT....please do something about that guy and get him outta here.

Salsa.....I'll bet your self esteem is directly proportional to the success of the tahd.

Biggest scourge in the State of Alabama......the sea of bammer minions the permeate the lower echelons of society and can't even find Tusk-a-looser on a map.

In honor of SPUAT (scandal plagued uat) Day, I will wear my Dale Jr cap, my Bama / Bass Fishin' combo t-shirt, have my wife shave my back, grow a mullet, get a giant Bahr tattoo, and mate with my sister in a trailer park.

if the rumors surrounding bammer's ncaa sanctions for the textbook thing are to be believed, next year we can all celebrate nick $aban day:

2/1/10

2: years probation
1: year postseason ban
10: 5 schollys/year for 2 years

11:23 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It won't be that severe, Chip.

Maybe 2 schollys for two years (total 4).

No way they postseason ban.

One or two years probation is a maybe but what does that even mean?

I hate Bammer but they won't get slammed like that.

Looks like Southern California is going to get a hug and some cookies for their violations.
