Summer reset
Hey everyone. Sorry for the lack of content here lately, but it's that time of year when almost nothing is going down at Auburn.
I plan to do some stuff with the various summer football functions -- voluntary workouts and prospect camps -- but we need more than than to get us into late July.
I can do scouting reports on Auburn's top 25 players or so. I'll probably run that beginning June 8th. That's sure to generate some commentary, but I'm still looking for ideas to supplement that.
So now it's on you, HOTTIES. What do you want to read?
THE BASEBALL CONUNDRUM: Your Auburn Tigers ended their regular season with a series win (2 to 1) against Alabama. The Tigers are 31-25 overall, 11-19 against Southeastern Conference teams.
Yuck, right?
The thing is: Auburn's RPI, the offical version from the NCAA, had John Pawlowski's team ranked No. 40 last week. The Tigers took two from Alabama and one from Georgia Southern since then. It's reasonable to assume Auburn will jump to No. 35 or so when the new numbers are released tomorrow.
Will that be enough to make the NCAA Tournament?
I don't think so, either. That hasn't stopped some people from speculating that Auburn's season may resume next week.

So close...
Thanks for the updates, Jay G.
I'd enjoy reading/commenting about the top players. Will that include returners as well as new ones? (I assumed so, but wanted to make sure.)
Additionally, I'd enjoy reading a compare and contrast on members of the new coaching staff with the old ones.
JGT, the truth of the matter is we would read anything that is even tangentially involved with football. It's May, for crying out loud, and we have lived without a game since January.
My ears perked up yesterday when I heard a woman say that a kindergartner was a pretty good quarterback but he could use a good offensive line.
...yet so far away, AUMom.
I can't meaningfully discuss the newcomers. Haven't seen them yet.
That makes sense. How about the coaches? I know you haven't seen them in action, but hearing your take on their personalities, methods of coaching, etc. would be entertaining.
Thanks, Sensi. I needed a smile this morning.
That sounds cool
Sweet ideas, Sensi!
Plus, we always have the hottest of the hot bracket I created back in April.
Totally Off Topic:
Jay G. - have you seen State of Play?
I'd love to hear your take on that. I found it very interesting.
FYI: My facebook status, which promotes the idea of charging for online content, is not some kind of foreshadowing for the HABOTN.
Just saying: Those days are coming ... even if MonD would prefer me broke.
I move that anyone who owns a HABOTN shirt be grandfathered in and never have to pay for online content.
Brethren,
Heed the Word ...
If Jay G is hungry, we must feed him.
If Jay G is naked, we must clothe him (with a HABOTN shirt)
If Jay G is sick, we must comfort him.
If Jay G is in prison, we must visit him.
And, one day, if HABOTN must convert to a pay site, then let us heed the Word and bear one another's burdens.
Let's all stand and sing hymn No. 244, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Hottie."
I don't know about ya'll, but I want one of those white Auburn baseball jerseys.
I'm really not suggesting that this become a pay site.
Newspapers, as a genre, soon must start charging for online content. There is no other way to keep us around more than five years.
I won't be ready to retire in five years.
Thank you for the lesson, Brother Jet.
Let's stand and sing a final hymn before we are dismissed.
# 728B
We'll sing the first and fourth versus and then be dismissed.
Agreed, Jay G. The future is here.
The thing that has damaged the media over the past three decades is the conglomerate.
The bottom line is that the web sites will fall victim to the same either through ownership, or through some sort of access portal like your cable provider.
Consumers won't like the idea of having to pay 20 different sites, so you'll end up paying one vendor that will provide you the access to the places you choose off a menu.
At least that's what I think.
Paying for online content seems like the way to go for newspapers, but I still don't believe that will do enough unfortunately. I do have a subscription to the AJC here in Atlanta, but only for coupons. I could care less about local news and I know that it would not entice me to pay for online local newspaper content when I can get all the news I really care about from the big media players such as Fox News, CNN, etc. I'm curious to see how things work in a few years.
Sitting at home this afternoon, watching lacrosse. Maryland goalie, jumps up and down in anger at an official's no call ... and blows out his knee.
as long as it's not ridiculously priced I would gladly pay to be a member here...it's worth it...I like sensi idea on "getting to know your AU coaches"...
Jet- I saw that this weekend on SC. That's crazy.
I've been wondering for a while how newspapers can afford to offer free online content.
I would assume that blogs associated with said papers would be part of said content.
I may start charging for my blog. I get about 13 visits a week. Is that enough to put food on my table? I'm no economist, so I guess I'll just try it out and see.
I think I've made references to myself here in the past about my "fondness" for my money. For this site, and this site only, I'd pay a subscription if it comes to that. Especially if % gets to JGT.
"Didn't wanna do it, felt I owed it to him."
Boxhead - I was there this morning. What do you think I owe you for it? I'll gladly mail you $0.05 if you send me $0.27 back to offset the expense of a stamp/envelope.
Have y'all seen pics of Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marinoni?
Creepy.Yes, the one in the tie is female.
I too read a fine article concerning the Good Times father this morning.
ehyou - Why? Why? Why? What have we ever done to deserve such treatment? Now I have to go to our breakroom emergency kit and get the eyeflush applicator.
gatiger...
You of all people ask why?
Does "chaps" mean anything to you?
Uhm, I see your point. Nevermind.
I'm ready for the "Hottest of the Hot" bracket. We could also come up with a most amazing sports play in history bracket or a why JZ is an insufferable idiot bracket.
I still think it would be fun to do a "Where are they now" story on obscure AU players. Hicks Poor, Jason Miska, Marcellus Mostella, Lance Weems, Adrian Chilliest, Eric Hines-Tucker, Cencade Pennington, that Barkley fella that played b-ball in the 80's...I need updates on these guys.
Yeah...and throw in an update on Kristy McNichol too. She was hot back in the day.
And do one on Elizabeth Shue....I love her and per the restraining order am not allowed to come within 50 yds of "where she is now". So if someone could keep me posted on her location, that would be solid!
as much as the fan in me would like it...deep down I don't think its right for a team that doesn't qualify for its conference tournament to be in an NCAA regional
It doesn't keep teams out of the BCS bowls, why should it keep them out of the Series? (I don't think it's going to happen, but I'm not morally opposed to it.)
I agree, while I wouldn't whine about making the NCAAs, I wouldn't be disappointed for not making them when we weren't even in the top 2/3 of our conference.
jz...
Mcnichol was quite the tomboy, wasn't she? You got a thing for girls like that? You ever considered therapy?
Will - here's one "where are they now?" update for you: Lance Weems works for the City of Hoover as Athletic Superintendent. Bonus info: his wife is P.E. coach at my kids' elementary school (where my wife also teaches). Double bonus info - his wife is not un-hot.
Weems played during my time. I saw him a lot as I rarely missed a home game. I also remember liking Derek Caldwell and Franklin Williams.
Kristy McNichol?
Uh, she would be NOT "not unhot," so to speak.
Franklin Williams -- "The Governor" from Headland, AL
Strange that I remember his hometown
Hornet ...
Remember Jim Fyffe would announce the hometowns of AU players when they dunked it ...
"Hello Headland, Alabama!"
A friend of mine and I had a game where we would say "Hello ------------!" and we'd have to guess the AU player from the 1970s that it applied to.
"Hello Bean Blossom, Indiana!" was always a favorite.
hornet...
It is probably because of Jim Fyffe. He called out players' hometowns every time they dunked.
Broken? Yes.
Broke? Not so much.
Well crap, beat out by Jet again.
I know I sure heard "Hello Abbeyville Alabama" a lot while I was there.
Just when you think Monica can't be more heartless and any colder, she's slaps a 10 pound bag of ice in Jay G's shorts.
So to speak.
Ehyou, which was inaccurate.
It should have been "Hello, Medellin, Columbia!"
They have an excellent bluegrass festival in Bean Blossom, Indiana.
That's me.
jet...
Is that right? Never knew. An NBA flop of epic proportions.
It's a joke, ehyou ...
Medellin was the home of the major drug cartel of the 1980s.
Yep, you got me that time.
Chris Porter was a great leaper and rebounder, but he didn't have the offensive skills for "the next level."
UNDERSTATEMENT ALERT!
He also lack discipline.
Showed up 3 days late to summer camp.
Missed the plane when he got traded to Charlotte.
I could go on.
That's almost akin to (at least it reminds me of) Pascuel Perez getting lost on I-285 trying to find Fulton County Stadium.
That sounds like Clark Griswold not being able to get off the roundabout.
I was going to stay something snarky about MonD, but I'm going to refrain since she's in the RoF.
She deserves snark.
Well, yeah but "Sparky" Griswold wasn't a coke-head.
I can take it. If it will make you feel better please snark away. I'm your humble servant and want only what is best for you Daddy Bear.
Wasn't there a guy that threw the no-hitter while under the effects of LSD?
Zing!
Did somebody say snark?
Ehyou ...
Dock Ellis of the Pirates was the pitcher.
I'm digging the "where are they now" idea.
Maybe, to save money for the newspaper, you could and find all the former players in Montgomery. Then, when you wrote the story, you could just say, "Montgomery".
Land shark.
Candy gram.
By the way, I am officially now a blogger.
When do the checks start rolling in?
Aubie - our own Michael is in charge of the funds disbursements for blogging revenues. Good luck getting it though. I suspect some non-GAAP shenanigans with him involving his beloved sheep.
uh...plumber
(303): I'm at a work party and I don't know how to drink socially. You know, like slow?
me neither ehyou. I have never gone to a work party, mainly for that reason. 1-2 beers leads to like 10
well i caught 30 seconds of slimebaum when i got in my car a few minutes ago. there must be nothing to all the rumors out there.
PF says: alabama investigated the rumors of alleged recruiting violations in gadsden and found nothing.
sadam hussein investigated alleged human rights violations in iraq and found nothing.
iran investigated alleged islamic radicals in their government and found nothing.
milosevic investigated alleged genocide in serbia and found nothing.
enron investigated alleged accounting snafus and found nothing.
has dear leader discovered any evidence of his alleged nuclear program in his internal investigation???
what a tool...
Chip - what's your point, what are you trying to say?
(just kidding, i'm really not that dense)
That's the first step, Harrison. Congrats.
Sometimes you guys accuse me of being weird. I have investigated all of my previous posts and found no such evidence.
Doug Barfield said he would have Fbuam arrested if he showed up for a media event at Auburn? HA HA
That's funny.
How do you ensure that you're tenure at Auburn lasts no more than 5 years? Never beat Bama.
I don't think it would take 5 nowadays.
I think Barfield's blowup to Herbie Winches after the 0-42 Tennessee blowout at home sealed his fate.
Doug's fate was sealed at the 0-42 game when he used the cheerleader mic to chastise the student section for throwing oranges at UT. The students responded with a chorus of boos.
Doug was right though....throwing frozen oranges "isn't what Auburn people do".
For the record...I didn't throw one, then again I didn't have one to throw either.
I was a 9th grader sitting in the student section that day.
The orange I threw was not frozen.
Neither were the dog biscuits I threw at MSU and UGA.
Looking back, it's hard to believe we thought that was a good idea.
How the heck were the oranges frozen? Seems like they would have melted.
That game gave my dad a heart attack.
What year was it? It might very well have given me birth.
It was 1980... Nearing the end of a dark era.
1980 brought Bo Derek in the movie 10, New Wave music, and Ronnie Reagan...
and then came Pat Dye
Wasn't that game in '79 or '80? I was there and remember being surprised when the student section threw the oranges. I was 12 or 13 at the time, so might have thought it was cool a year or two later. I was also surprised at the huge butt-whoopin' we took. It seems that I remember that the crowd was the largest in AU history at the time. The first upper deck had just recently been added.
From the Auburn website:
1980--Tennessee defeated Auburn 42-0 before the then largest crowd in Auburn history. It was, perhaps, the darkest day in Auburn's long and glorious football history.
MrsTHT and I got engaged on the evening after 0-42. We were in the (only) upper deck for the game and left with about 5 minutes to go. So I do have some fond memories of that day.
Y'all excuse me please. MrsTHT and I have to dash to the aiport to pick up THTjr's car. He flew away to London this evening for "holiday." I hope I don't get a ticket trying to get back in time for puck drop.
THT, is this the West Ham trip?
Can we talk about the insane amount of construction happening right now on campus? You literally can't drive through the campus right now without being detoured.
It has to be the West Ham trip. The season is almost over. Only 2 games left in the Preimership.
When it comes to recruiting, I have several concerns. We seem to be going after star skill position players, but great teams mean having great guys in the trenches. I haven't seen a lot in terms of high profile linemen we are pursuing.
I am also kind of concerned with all the star power at tailback. We have a crap load of talent already and we are in the running for 4 of the best in the nation. If we don't get at least 1 of those, it has been time wasted on a position that isn't a critical need at the moment.
By the way, I am expecting Tate and Fannin to have outstanding seasons.
The fine folks at Dukes have created the finest mayonnaise known to man.
JGT - The future of newspapers are definitely in doubt. I received a call yesterday from an elderly woman who was calling to ask if I wanted The Baltimore Sun for home delivery. I told her no thank you because I can read the paper online and if I need coupons I also can print those out online. She said, "but you can get it right on your doorstep?"
That is the best ya got? I can get it on the doorstep? There is a newspaper box across the street and I can walk and get it if need be. Charging for online content is the only way to recover. And I saw Gannett shut down an Arizona paper but keeping the website.
The newspapers had such a monopoly on media for so long, they forgot how to be resourceful and competitive.
YEA! I even made it back in time for the pregame show.
JGT- yes, he's going to see the Hammers next week, I think May 24 or 26, I don't remember.
Newspapers should keep a certain level of online content free, local info by subscription, etc. They should make their money on website advertisers.
Ok...who is pouring my first drink?
Pick your poison, Faker, and I'm your man.
Tonight it's Dewars and soda for ehyou.
You've got a problem when you drink straight liquor, that's why I always put a splash of water in mine.
I'm all for a splash of water with my bourbon..
Tequila I can only handle in shots. Back in my single days it lowered my standards so I try to stay away...
True enough, certain drinks are meant to be shot. Tequila and Jagermeister come to mind.
Tequila...? Whiskey? What goes on here?
Personally I think Jagermeister is better not drank at all.
Just a typical Monday night Seanzie.
Sounds like me and the Captain should make it happen.
eh....I don't drink much anymore, but back in the day.....Dewars was the everyday stuff and Johnny Black or Buchanans on occasion.
Mon....No Big Bang tonight? I guess Sheldon is done for the season.
I miss Big Bang Monday, too, Hoopie.
In light of the two weeks I've had I think I may have Greg make me a cocktail. I thank you Hotties for the inspiration.
Mon - checked your email?
I just did, Norm. Sorry for the delay.
I'm taking it upstairs folks, it's time for bed. Later.
And, for what it's worth, I haven't had Jager since 4/19/96. Since I can pinpoint the date, you may safely assume that there's a story involved but it's too long to get into here.
Norm, I hope to hear that story someday.
My Fav hockey team beats my 2nd Fav hockey team 3-2 in Game 1 of Eastern Conf finals.
GO PENS!!!
Haven't posted in a while but had to tell you about this gem. I saw a truck with 36-0 on rear and side windows today. My first thought was somebody had a great record in softball this year. Then I seen Roll Tide. I literally laughed out loud.
What a night.
I watched WTC from across the gym beam with his pride as his beautiful daughter walked across the stage.
And, of course, I grinned when ElTurbo made his walk as well.
A special night, for sure. Now they both head to Auburn. Another generation to take its turn in a very special place.
Congratulations Jet!
Ehyou ...
Your wisdom continues to amaze me. Dukes is the AU of mayonnaise. All others are UAT.
Jet-daughter only applied to AU. some of her friends are going to UA but she said she would never go there. She can hate with the best of 'em.
It was a great night tonight wasn't it?
congrats Jet- Sorry bout my lack of info but who is WTC? I thought I might figure it out if I read it enough..no luck...
WTC ...
I would expect nothing less from her.
It was a wonderful ceremony.
WarTigah ... WTC is a fellow Hottie ... a man who runs great distances, and looks like he could line up at DE for the Tigers, despite the fact he ran out of eligibility 20 years ago.
Jet-I wish I had some eligibilty. At times I think I could play, but I know they would hurt me. I think I do have 1 year of eligibilty left. And by the way, I did play DE in college and it was FUN.
Jet- The band didn't sound nearly as well. Elturbo will be missed.
BTW, I know a fella that is in the AU band and played last year as a freshman. He said it was awesome to come through the tunnel before the game.
WTC ...
I remember before your hair fell out and you had the Stanley McClover dreads. You were the bomb.
That was me. I think I just had an Al Bundy moment.
Thread killer. I am no Will.
Over? Over?!
Was it over when Saban bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
And it's not over now.
Quiet night tonight after the graduation. I think it is time for another piece of the McKinney double chocoalte/peanut butter cake.
Post graduation ... had a Chick-Fil-A sandwich and a cookies and cream shake.
Now, I'm heading to bed.
Mon-photos of daughters graduation luncheon are posted on FB.
me and coach urvin mayor want to gradulate all the proud parents on the gradulation of their offsprings.

Good Morning, Hotties!
Farmlinks = FANFREAKINTASTIC
Luv...
I checked out Farmlinks website. It looks outstanding.
Jet & wtc...
Sincere congratulations. I wish your kids all the success in the world.
Good morning Hotties and a fine morning it is.
If hating UAT is wrong, I dont' wanna be right.
Good Morning Hotties....Tis a fine Tuesday...I hope all is well.
Jet & WTC,
Congratulations on raising such wise children! It is so exciting to think of the next generations at Auburn. My son begins his senior (and last!) year on the Plains. Sad to think of that season of our life coming to an end, but hopefully we will be moved there before too many more years.
ehyou, Farmlinks is by far the NICEST course we've ever played. The entire staff was so friendly and helpful.
I bet all my bosses into the building today and I wasn't exactly early, I don't think that bodes well for our production today.
Not gonna meet your widget quota Sean?
Congrats Jet & WTC.
Happy Gene Chizik Day!
5-19
ROLL TIDE ROLL!
Luv. I love Farmlinks. I play in a 36 hole tournament there every summer. I amagine it's in great shape this time of year.
What do you think of hole #5?
Good morning, Hotties!
I think I finally figured how this all works.
Thanks for the welcome!
i'm off to play a little golf with a bud. i'm training to beat my younger (but bigger) brother when i come back home for the au-uat game. victory will be mine! congrats to wtc and jet.
It's Gene Chizik day and nobody told me. Happy GC day, Hotties!
Congrats to Jet and WTC! The next graduation will come quickly.
I appreciate all of the congratulatory remarks. Jet and and I spoke briefly last night and are proud to put two more fine individuals into the AU family.
Happy Gene Chizik Day, everyone! I got my wife a box of chocolates to mark the occasion. Answer me this: what have you done today to make Gene Chizik Day special for your loved ones?
I got bowling shirts for me and the Mrs. We'll wear them out to go play putt putt tonight. Happy GC day!
morning. Chizik day doesn't sound like such a positive thing. i may try to add Z's to every sentenze today in his honor, thoughz.
How can the Auburn fan base continue to defend this laughable hire? Don't say his assistants either because they are all from mediocre programs or were losers at previous stops as well.
Is this really an upgrade over Tubs?
I think you all will rue the day this move was made the way Alabama did with Fran, Price, and Shula. Problem is, you have no tradition or support enough to go get a "Saban" of your own.
I feel sorry for you all, but at least you didn't hire that idiot Lane Kiffin. I guess Chiznik is better than that.
Roll Tide and have a good day!
I kicked my wife out of bed at 5am this morning and told her to get ready for work to help kick start this festive Gene Chizik Day. Gene Chizik would want us working hard while others sleep so that we can beat their butts come this fall.
Eddie, as your wife was carrying her bowl of cereal to the table this morning did you punch her in the gut and yell "NO DROPS!!!!!!!!"?
may God be with you if you did.......but it would've been AUsome. ha.
I heard from a friend that Salsa Shark was raped by a St Bernard in honor of Gene Chizik day. I guess we all mark special occasions in different ways.
Thanks for the words of wisdom Shark! I'll take that advice to heart and re-evaluate things I have aboslutely no control over!
And I'm glad that you took time out of your schedule to feel sorry for us, I mean life just couldn't continue if we had a mediocre football squad.
Scottie- Not my wife, but my 3 year old daughter took it in the gut and amazingly kept all her cheerios together in the same bowl. She told me to tell everyone "War Eagle" this morning in this great celebration.
Michael- I heard he was later spotted at the pet store looking for more.
Michael, I heard it was consentual, and that they are living happily together in West Blocton and have become common law man and wife.

Happy Gene Chizik day, e'eryone.
While any day is a good day to hate bammers, Chizik day is a GREAT day to hate the cousin-humpers.
I think we should all move to a Gene Chizik avatar to celebrate this momentous occasion. We can all start rueing later.
For Gene Chizik Day (and all other lovely gift giving occasions), remember no gifts with electrical cords attached!
I just had some caramel cake in honor of GC day, and I dropped not a crumb.
I think that bodes well for the football season.
Eddie, i'm very proud of how you're raising your childrenZ. Shug would be proudZ
Harrison, Hole #5 is gorgeous!! Willie made a point of coming by when we were there and told us we had to go up to the top and take a look around. I played 29 holes and the most I've ever played is 18. I'm hurting today!
When is umpa lumpa day so UAT fans can have a day for their coach?
That was March 4th in honor of Oompa Loompas overall record against Auburn.
We can celebrate victory over UAT day on June 1st. That would be 6-1.
Everyday is Umpa Lumpa Day for them...at least that is what their coach told them.
Luv, I actually hate that hole. I think there are 17 great holes and 1 goofy hole. Although the view is awesome!
my record in a day is 45. wouldve played 54 but ran out of light
How many Gene Chizik pictures can we find to celebrate the day?
I LOVE those shirts. I think there is a "real" name for them. Anybody know it? Not bowling shirt, cabana shirt, camp shirt, etc. It's something else. Nat Nast makes some very cool ones. It's driving me crazy.
Finebaum, in an obvious effort to manipulate and enhance ratings is now slamming Lil' Nicky/Urban Cryer b/c of their absolute power. Although his points are solid, his motive is transparent.
Happy Gene Chizik day...hug every AU family member you encounter today.
Salsa: has gone to the dogs. Michael thanks for keeping us informed. JGT....please do something about that guy and get him outta here.
Salsa.....I'll bet your self esteem is directly proportional to the success of the tahd.
Biggest scourge in the State of Alabama......the sea of bammer minions the permeate the lower echelons of society and can't even find Tusk-a-looser on a map.
Tuscaloosa on a mapSuck it, Hoopie!
;-)
Salsa- I thought that was your specialty or is it more doggie style?
I am all for sticking it to Carl, but I can't disenfranchise the good Jan Terri in the process. Sorry Chizik, you will never grace my avatar. But hey, today is your day!
Hoopie I bet you look good in a bowling shirt.
That creep can roll.
hated bama today?
i have.
I think everybody here already has this morning. Some of us might have puked on our bowling shirt
Jet's Cliff Notes ...
Guayabera is the shirt's formal name.
Hatin' UAT is my game.
I know that many feel the same.
Michael forever link to Jan Terri, no shame.
Lots anger today, Shark's to blame.
I'm burnin' for Auburn an eternal orange and blue flame.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Oh THANK YOU, JET!!!
whew
ファックバーマ!!!!!!!!!
jet you're as talented as tupac
"I don't mean to sound sleaZy but teaZe me. I don't want it if it's that eaZy."
-Tupac Shakur
I'm more like the Notorious J.E.T.
In honor of Gene Chizik day I am wearing my Captain America costume to work.
In honor of SPUAT (scandal plagued uat) Day, I will wear my Dale Jr cap, my Bama / Bass Fishin' combo t-shirt, have my wife shave my back, grow a mullet, get a giant Bahr tattoo, and mate with my sister in a trailer park.
... while wearing a houndstooth ball cap
... just like the team wears while getting their mugshots.
NOTORIOUS..........he is....No-No-NOTORIOUS.
if the rumors surrounding bammer's ncaa sanctions for the textbook thing are to be believed, next year we can all celebrate nick $aban day:
2/1/10
2: years probation
1: year postseason ban
10: 5 schollys/year for 2 years
It won't be that severe, Chip.
Maybe 2 schollys for two years (total 4).
No way they postseason ban.
One or two years probation is a maybe but what does that even mean?
I hate Bammer but they won't get slammed like that.
Looks like Southern California is going to get a hug and some cookies for their violations.
Let's turn this thing over.
