Checkin' in

Hey everyone. Jenna says hello.

(I know she's wearing too much eye liner. We'll confer about that.)

There isn't much going on. I wrote a swell running story for tomorrow's editions (with no Auburn angle) and that has been my focus for a few days.

Running is good. It promotes health.

I'll start a series looking at the coaches beginning Friday. I'll pick a guy, we'll examine his background, a memorable quote and my thoughts about the guy. You can disagree. I don't mind.

So that's all I have to say right now.

Ehyou ...

Congrats on the anniversary.

As for the "loved" coach, he doesn't exist anymore. In this ADDesque society, we run hot and cold on coaches, presidents, and, unfortunately on spouses and other truly important people in our lives.

Maybe not all of us, but generally it's true.

It's about Ws and Ls, and more importantly it's about championships. It's about what we want when we want it.

Luv is the exception, not the rule.

7:27 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Well, I'm finally in after my 2 hour comute this morning. Yeah for me.

As for which type coach to have, I will take the one with Championships. We had the other version in our last coach.

7:29 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Agreed, Eddie.

Look at the coaches in the SEC with a NC ring:
Meyer
Miles
Spurrier
Satan

All of them are son of a guns in one way or another.

7:31 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Multi-million dollar contracts have changed everything about coaching and the type of individual you are formed to be once getting paid the big bucks in my opinion.

With the huge contract, comes huge pressure and expections. You only get a short window to prove yourself or you will be gone. Coaches today are definitely more guarded and not very personable to outsiders, including us fans, unless they have to be. Meyer, Miles and Saban may be dicks and big jerks, but they sure know how to sweet talk to a recruit, so there is some personality there that we do not get to see.

I would argue that "back in the day", winning championships was great, but not required to be a successful and sometimes legendary coach and I believe it has a direct relationship to pay.

Just my 2 cents.

I may be slow on the uptake, but who is Charles from Reeltown?

Caller to 740 shows. Cranky old dude always threatening to open up a can o' whoop a$$ or give someone a good ole fashioned country boy a$$ whoopin.

I'm an administrator, but I usually administer whoop-As. I delegate that work.

Jet, that's not what I mean when I say those things. But, like you said, I'm an exception.

I know. That's what you are the "Conscience of the HABOTN."

And I mean that in a good way.

Jet, I read your story on the blog. Classic.

Thanks, H.

i had a similar story when i was dating my wife. Except it was in her apt. complex and the guy did kill himself and it was halloween night

Harrison, that's not nearly as good a story as Jet's.

I didn't say it was, plus Jet uses the English language way better than I. I also don't want to type out the whole story

Jet, do you have aspirations to write a book?

10:05 AM
Blogger Jet said...

That requires patience, discipline, and talent -- of which I lack in all three areas.

Couple of tidbits:
1) Just heard part of a pretty good interview with Tubs on "The Opening Drive" here in B'ham. You can probably find it on the WJOX website if you're interested.
2) I heard via a semi-reputable source (my brother) that the Govnuh just signed the gourmet beer bill. I hope that's correct!
3) Okay, one more tidbit. It seems to me that UF fans are actually more tolerable now than back when UF wasn't very good. When their fans came to AU back in the '80's, there used to be fights galore.

You have mail.

For you beer nerds out there (like me). Gov Riley approved the "free the hops" bill this morning!!

Thanks Sensi. I'm going to listen in a few minutes when I get a chance.

Other Beer Subjects....I can finally "legally" buy Fat Tire here in Georgia. Yippee. Unfortunately, it's only in 22oz bottles, but I will roll with the punches.

10:23 AM

I was hoping you would confirm that Harrison!

Does that mean Southhampton 12 Abotts is coming to our state?

10:25 AM

Jet, I don't know about the first two, but you definitely have talent. I also know that if you ever did have aspirations, all the Hotties would buy it!

"Free the Hops" -- the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the people of Alabama. The Hops haven't been freed. In reality, they are doomed. Doomed to die by lethal oral injection by those who told you they were there to "free" them. This is no more than state-sanctioned murder of innocent Hops, legalized by a travishamockery of a bill that was sold to the public as a way to "Free the Hops."

A sad day in Alabama.

10:27 AM
Blogger Harrison said...

it doesn't include container size though, so many of those beers come in 22oz bottles which won't be available.
that's for next year's senate i guess.

10:28 AM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Jet - I will feel no guilt when murdering the recently freed hops. By the way, I guess that organization will keep going, as there is still this stupid law on the books:

The Container Size Restriction

The container size limit appears once in The Code of Alabama, in §28-3A-23(g), addressing the regulation of licenses for selling alcohol. That section contains the following rule controlling retailers licensed by the state to sell alcohol:

"All beer, except draft or keg beer, sold by retailers must be sold or dispensed in bottles, cans or other containers not to exceed one pint or 16 ounces."

Alabama is the only state in the country with this peculiar restriction.

you can buy it by the gallon in Shorter

I know Scott. You being in Bham you should have fatser access to "real beer". i think it may take Auburn a little longer to start getting some

Harrison - I unfortunately have actually witnessed a suicide. I recommend avoiding it if you can. I didn't have the luxury of making a choice, I happened to be looking out the wrong window at the wrong time apparently.

Yikes, Norm, that's awful. I'm sure that's an image that will haunt you for a LONG time.

Not to make light ... OK, to make light ... 87,000 saw a suicide when Bruce Arians called on Fat Freddy to throw the pirouette swing pass in 1997.
