Things I learned in California
Hey everyone.
My friend Jason Caldwell (of ITAT) postulates that every Auburn event, regardless of location, will draw at least one angry Alabama fan. Said Alabama fan will curse Auburn throughout said athletic contest.
My daughter was booed in the Memphis airport yesterday for wearing her HABOTN shirt. How about that? She got a "ROLL TIDE" and had no idea why the man said it.
Not an athletic event, sure, but I'm more sure than ever that Jason is right.
Other interesting things:
PHOTO NOTE: That's from the neighborhood adjacent to the Rose Bowl. I liked how the trees were all bent toward the right ... though there was no wind.
*******OFF-TOPIC ZONE********
Here is some premiere footage from The Beatles Rock Band, which excites me. The game releases in September. Should be awesome.
I can guarantee that several Auburn beat hacks will be playing.

Other interesting things:
- We did get a "WAR EAGLE" at California Adventure (Disney's second theme park) from some Georgia folks. State of Georgia, I mean. They hadn't heard of the blog. I hope they visit now.
- I watched the local news every night. College athletics was discussed only once ... and that was when San Diego State ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg, soon to be the top MLB draft pick, pitched against Virginia in the NCAA regionals.
- Alabama is hot. California is not. The temperature never rose above 75.
- Stalker alert: Jenna Fischer's house is not very big.
- Stalker alert: Georges Marciano (creator of Guess clothing) had seven Ferraris, three Bentleys and two covered exotics in his driveway.
- I want my daughter to attend UCLA so we can visit her in Westwood.
- I'm glad to be home.

WARRRR EAGLE and HALLELUJAH!!!
May you be free THT
Thanks DL! And a good Sunday afternoon to you.
we are glad you are back JGT
Funnest thing we did: Disneyland.
Exorbitant ($250 for the three of us) but worth it.
THT.. congrats.
Glad to have you back, JayG.
WDE.
Very glad you are home safely. I have no desire to return to Disney World, but I suspect I would be very tempted by Disneyland.
what on earth does anyone need with 7 ferraris?
I like big cities.
I intermittently struggle with Montgomery's relatively slow pace. It makes me feel lonely for some reason. Los Angeles cures that problem.
THT, I have no idea.
We were going to take a picture, but Marciano has a guard CREW (more than one dude) and they were approaching. So we left.
anything in California bent to the right? I'm going to have to zoom in on that photo and make sure you didn't accidentally flip it! ;-)
I took a photo of a car that had this sticker: WATER POLO MOM
I bet there isn't one of those in Alabama.
I like visiting big cities.
Nice one, THT.
that's funny. probably about as uncommon in AL as a slanted 3 sticker in California
I am going to have to get out to California again some day. I went to San Francisco years ago, but didn't do the tourist thing. It was just a business thang.
when I see all those folks in NYC taking their dogs for dumps on the sidewalk, it makes me appreciate that we have a yard. I love dogs and I don't think I would have one in a big city.
discussing dog dumps in relation to pluses/minuses of big city life ...possibly a first on HABOTN?
A first!
Never understand when adults give kids a hard time for the gear they wear. Had a drunk 50 year yell "Go Dawgs" to my 7 year old at a football game. 7 Year old was like "whats up with that guy".
One........dangit!!
when I was 8 (or 10), a drunk 50ish year old Georgia fan took the AU cap off my head and stomped on it... that was on the field in Athens after AU had whupped the dogs.
Some people just take football way to serious. Heck, the education of these young people are more important than the results of the games. It is one of the things I look for in a coach. I have seen coaches in the past that seemed to give star players a pass when it comes to discipline. I prefer a coach that lays down the law and enforces it uniformly. Winning is a priority, just not the top priority.
If education is the only goal, just hire a couple of teachers at $60K a year. For 3 million a year, I want the coach to educate AND win games.
Not too much to ask considering the amount of money he's getting paid.
Besides honestly Tubs wasn't doing too good a job at the 'classes' part. He was doing a great job at discipline, and I'll always respect him for that.
but classes etc, not really.
Aeronaut, where did you hear that teaching was the only goal? Strange.
Why are we back on Tuberville? Check out the number of academic all americans under Tuberville if you like. I believe he had more per year than any other coach I can remember, but there is more to teaching than just that. But Tuberville is no longer our coach.
Jay, were you covering Auburn in 02 for the USC game?
I was there.
Beatles Rock Band - I wish I had even a miniscule bit of musical ability
I don't have any legit musical talent.
I'm very good at Rock Band.
Mutually exclusive skills.
so you're good at video games?
I maxed out at space invaders.
I'm very good at Rock Band, pretty good at other stuff.
I play Call of Duty with a few HOTTIES ...
THTjr used to play Call of Duty. He was 84th in world rankings.
Steve. Sorry, misfired that one. It was like calling QB draw on 3rd and long, and praying that it works. It didn't work. I blame the Buddhists.
------------------
Does anyone here (looking at Jet) knows what happened between Fob James and Bobby Lowder back in 1995? I've heard something about getting in a physical altercation.
speaking of THTjr, he and I are headed out for a very late lunch to Rudinos. TTYL and WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
Aero ...
It is worthy of a couple chapters of a book on Alabama politics begging to be written.
Off Topic --
I see where a guy ran on the court and tried to put a hat on Roger Federer during the French Open final.
I propose a federal law that if a person runs on the surface during a sporting event that they be presumed armed and dangerous, and it's perfectly fine to shoot them.
New thread up.
Lane Kiffin takes another major slap in the face.
Some adult fans are threatened by children.
When I was 8 and attending my first Iron Bowl... I cheered when AU scored and a big fat drunk bammer (at lest in his 40's) sitting behind me dumped his 32 oz. beer down my back and told me to sit down and shut up.
I was leaning towards being an Auburn fan before (despite my families best attempts otherwise), but that cemented it.
Was Jenna Fisher's house the same as it is in your dreams?
