Thursday update

Hey everyone. I figured we'd lose a ton of traffic during the summer months, but that was an erroneous premise. Traffic has been surprisingly steady.

I am grateful for your continued support of the HABOTN. I'm glad you likey.

My California vacay is nearing its conclusion. We'll be flying back Saturday morning aboard a spacious Airbus 330, which means we'll resume daily updates in short order.

For you local peeps:

The Montgomery Auburn Club is holding its annual summer shindig on Tuesday. I will be attending. There is such a high concentration of quality Auburn peeps at these events. How could I miss it?

WHEN: Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m.
WHERE: Embassy Suites, Montgomery
ATTENDING COACH: Gene Chizik, possibly some assistants
COST: Buffet is $15 per adult; $6 for children. You must be a member of the organization. Annual dues are $30 per family or $25 for a single membership.
WEBSITE: Montgomery Auburn Club

MrTommy...I drove from Santa Barbara to Monterrey and leisurely took 2 days to do so. The drive gets more spectacular as you go north. If at Big Sur, drive up to La Ventana Restaurant and check out the view from the top of the 1500' cliffs.

I jogged 5 miles at sunrise on Pismo Beach. Quickly stop by La Jolla, San Clemente, Malibu and get to Santa Barbara. It is much more cool north of the Hearst Castle...beach towns, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterrey...

Brethren,

I've been deep in study. I've been studying and praying over the most difficult book of all -- Revelations.

Chillun, we've heard all these stories lately about the NCAA and the Infidels. I've struggled with my faith that good will overcome evil in this particular matter.

But the Word has taught me again. And the punishment will be unprecedented.

"He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years." -- Revelations 20:7

A thousand years probation? Verily, and amen.

As for the SoCal discussion -

1 - I agree with Monica (always a wise thing to do). Hotel del Coronado is right cool. The wife and I had Sunday Brunch there which is the most impressive buffet I've EVER seen. I didn't need to eat for two days after, though I probably actually did.

2 - La Jolla is most impressive too. I didn't get to play Torrey since they'd closed the course to the public in preparation for the Buick which was the next week. I did spend a few hours walking around on the course and taking in some amazing scenery (complete with some crazy cliff jumpers).

3 - SD Zoo is a must do.

4 - if I could afford to live anywhere in the world I've visited, that area would be in serious contention. Though not ranked as highly as Kuaui, Hawaii.

Nope, SMU's own Craig James. He did it for the New England Patriots back in the 80's. Much like at SMU, he was paid for his services, but that time it was legal (which raises the question: should it be legal for abc to pay James for his often moronic commentary?)

SMU death penalty details

team on death penalty doesn't play for a certain number of years. Well, you do play some out of conference games, but no conference games. I think it also includes complete scholarship ban etc.

I don't even know anyone other than SMU ever that got a death penalty.

you are right Michael, CJ is not one of the better.
"Analysts" for college football. That word doesn't belong in the same sentence with him.

The link above also explains Kentucky's unofficial death penalty in basketball in the early 50s. NCAA exec told everybody not to schedule KY, so they had no games that year.

Any opinions on the best reasonably priced seats at Braves games?

Scott Chocolate- Go to Publix and buy you a "buy 1 get 1 Free" outfield pavillian or concourse level seat. I think it runs like $25 or close to it. I've set in the outfield pavillian a few times and I have enjoyed it.

Marian Hossa will have 2 goals tonight for Red Wings, or at least he should. He has 6 goals in 19 playoff games this year, 2 goals in each of the three "Game 4" games on the road. Tonight is Game 4, Red Wings on the road.

Puck drops on Versus in about 5-10 minutes

Go Red Wings!

When I get the big salary from my current employer and I don't live up to expectations, do I get a big cushion to retire on?

This not political, but I find it really cool that White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has an Aubie Figure on his desk. I love the thought of Aubie being in the whitehouse.
