Thursday update
Hey everyone. I figured we'd lose a ton of traffic during the summer months, but that was an erroneous premise. Traffic has been surprisingly steady.
I am grateful for your continued support of the HABOTN. I'm glad you likey.
My California vacay is nearing its conclusion. We'll be flying back Saturday morning aboard a spacious Airbus 330, which means we'll resume daily updates in short order.
For you local peeps:
The Montgomery Auburn Club is holding its annual summer shindig on Tuesday. I will be attending. There is such a high concentration of quality Auburn peeps at these events. How could I miss it?
WHEN: Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m.
WHERE: Embassy Suites, Montgomery
ATTENDING COACH: Gene Chizik, possibly some assistants
COST: Buffet is $15 per adult; $6 for children. You must be a member of the organization. Annual dues are $30 per family or $25 for a single membership.

One.
Go Buford
Getcha some, Buford.
Are the dues and the tickets to this event separate charges?
He's alive!!!
Jay G., dead traffic was due to a "dead" coaching staff in the off-seasons.
Not the Chizik Republic.
Those guys are workers and they chase recruits coast-to-coast.
War Eagle!
Sheriff BTJ ...
They get you for club dues AND for the dinner.
if they had waited one more week I would have driven 1000 miles for it.
The Chizik Republic, that's rich. Jay, safe travels on your way back home.
Thank you, Brother Jet.
I eagerly await your next lesson in HFB (Hate For Bammer).
"Vacay" may be the worst new word in our lexicon.
It used to be Chizikslovakia.
WARRRRR EAGLE!!!
(a substitute for my duct tape comment which would have been in poor taste)
from the last thread...
wartiger, I am in Worcester/Shrewsbury for 2 days.
Mass is an interesting place.
Summer school must be rained out today, ehh Tuna?
THanks for the new thread note sheriff
Aubie- I am in Townsend (close to fitchburg). Nice to know I ain't the only Hottie in Mass right now. You are right. The weather is great here right now.
AU leads in being accused of major violations. I have no doubt that UA-T has a substantial, if not insurmountable lead in committing major violations.
Aubie-You come this way often?
I'm surmising this is the same salsa shark guy who's worn his welcome out at another site u read from time to time. Go ahead and get your nervous breakdown over and hit another board.
How is it possible that one poser can turn this into al.com
How did Army and Navy get major NCAA violations? That's what I want to know.
What the heck is the world coming to?
Tuna's mostly harmless so far.
Seriously, how did Army and Navy receive violations?
you mean you actually clicked on a link supplied by the guppie?
he's not gonna tommy, he's gonna cry when nobody really gives him any attention. Then he'll post a long email about how he's sorry and he'll keep it more civilized. He's obviously a beacon of light to all that know him because of all the bama friends he has that he talks to instead of going to auburn boards. The mod here is too good to let it go to al.com status.
I'm sure they (Army/Navy) were turned in to NCAA by Dear Leader. It was a stroke of genius in the world of international politics
NCAA sanctions: Army and Navy each lost 2 nuclear warheads per season for the next 5 years, not to mention a ban on post-season wars.
THT, thanks for the good luck wishes on the Six Flags expedition. I will need it! I much prefer the week at the beach type of vacation, which just happens to start next weekend. Just keep an eye on the kids, sit under an umbrella, drink cold beverages, do a little swimming, play a little frisbee, etc., etc. However, I am taking my spear gun in case I see Salsa Blowfish down there.
Oh ok then, thanks B
This is a LONG way from al.com, peeps.
Thank goodness.
Don't forget your english to douche-lish dictionary when chatting with chicken o the sea.
Hi JayGT- did you enjoy watching the soccer game last night at a reasonable time? It was pretty late here.
True Mr. Tate, but the battling is a pain, I try to ignore, but its difficult
Ah, back at work for the rest of the day, I mean next 3 hours. I love short days.
Norm- Email me the info on the Atlanta Club Meeting, I'll probably make it a point to attend.
My guess for the on deck circle: Jeff Grimes
What's happening?
Wassup sensi? I'm bout to light outta here for work once i get cleaned up.
wartiger, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get that call today and an offer, if that's what you want to do! :-)
We are going to the to-do on Tuesday night. The last one we went to was prior to Auburn's undefeated season. Hmmm....
Luv-I'd would greatly appreciate that..thanks!
Ephemeral, make sure you wear the same thing and do all the same things you did that day!
Ephemeral - I like the avatar of Chiz in some knuckle bump action.
Mon- Check Yahoo Messenger.
This IS a long way from al.com... thank the Good Lord.
wartiger, I come up here to Mass on a fairly regular basis for work. I will be back in July for a meeting in Cape Cod. Never been before... looking forward to it.
Thanks, Monica. The recipient of the knuckle bump is our Bo. It was at a recent golf tournament--I think in B'ham.
Aubie-I have gone through Cape Cod on the way to Martha's...since you are so close to where the ferry leaves to go to Martha's I would strongly recommend checking that place out if you haven't already. It is the home of the countries oldest carousel and the most beautiful sites I have seen in my relatively short life..it's 15 bucks round trip on the ferry and count on another 20 bucks to park your car at Palmer Ave..
Eddie - you should have a FB and an AOL message from me.
Speaking of travel, has anyone driven the Pacific Coast Highway?
mrtommyd- only north of San Francisco
Point Reyes national seashore is interesting for the fence that shows how far the earth moved during the 1906 earthquake. I'm glad I wasn't there.
I missed the USA-COS soccer match yesterday. I was chillin' in Coronado, Calif.
We're going from San Diego up to San Francisco, and make a nice two day trip of it. Thought I'd check and see if there is anything we HAVE to see.
Monica, did you get some much-need sleep last night?
mrtommyd, that sounds like a fun trip. I've never been to CA.
San Francisco is great Mrtommy. My wife and I love visiting there. You can do all the tourist things, but just enjoy the city, we spent a lot of time walking around.
I was on the PCH yesterday. A swell road.
San Diego --> San Fran is a LONG way. I hope you know that.
MrTommy...I drove from Santa Barbara to Monterrey and leisurely took 2 days to do so. The drive gets more spectacular as you go north. If at Big Sur, drive up to La Ventana Restaurant and check out the view from the top of the 1500' cliffs.
I jogged 5 miles at sunrise on Pismo Beach. Quickly stop by La Jolla, San Clemente, Malibu and get to Santa Barbara. It is much more cool north of the Hearst Castle...beach towns, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterrey...
It's like Mobile to Louisville, Ky.
Tommy...oh yeah...If you've only got 2 days...skip LA and start at Topanga Canyon and go toward Santa Barbara. If you go to LA...Newport Beach is ritzie and Venice Beach is "Urban".
My "don't miss" for in and around San Diego is Torrey Pines Gliderport. Any time of day is great, but sunset and when they are actually hang gliding. It's magical.
http://flytorrey.com/cms/
Yes, Luv, I slept off and on until almost noon! I have a bit of a grant hangover, but I'm just chillin at home today so it's all groovy.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Jay G, unless you are a huge fan of Costa Rican soccer, you did not miss much.
What the hell is al.com?
SoCal is cool, but when you get up to Carmel-Monterrey...you may want to stay forevah. There is also a lot to see.
TommyD ...
Having been to San Diego and San Francisco in the past year, I find them to be incredibly beautiful cities.
Not to get political, but SF is almost enough to make me turn Democrat, buy a VW bug and become a professional tree hugger.
The hang gliders are right beside the Golf Course. Back in the day, I shot an 82 from the tips at the South Course. If your ball lands in the ice plant..take a drop.
oops! Wrong profile. Monica, did you hanglide while you were there?
A tip of the hat to Hoopie ... 82 on the South Course is beyond impressive.
No, Monica would not step off a perfectly good cliff to hang glide.
Luv- If you go to CA, see Yosemite and the Redwoods and then get the (&(^(&* out of that place. It could fall into the ocean any day. The only thing I find remotely appealing about San Francisco is www.davidrumsey.com
I think parasailing is cool and fun, but there's something about the level of commitment to jumping off a cliff that I can't make.
Jay G. - except that Mobile to Louisville is more scenic, right? ;)
I would love to visit San Francisco and San Diego, but on an x-ray tech's salary, I can barely pay my bills.
LOL I hear ya, Monica! Check out the Family Blog to see how I feel about the subject! If you need the link again, I'll email you.
yep, Chocolate, it's hard to beat I-59/I-65, especially that section about an hour west of B'ham where you can dump all your trash out the window and it blends in with the surroundings.
I literally LOL'ed on that one, Tar Heel!
Y'all are fantastic!! Ask and ye shall receive. We're spending two days in San Diego, and then making the drive up. I wasn't sure what the plan was for the drive other than seeing what is supposed to be some of the greatest vistas around. Now there is going to be some sightseeing!! Thanks again everyone!
I would love to hang glide at Torrey! I'd do it in a heartbeat!
TommyD ...
In San Diego, Demedici's for dinner. Just do it. Trust me.
Luv - re: SD and SF, don't worry; you aren't missing much. The hype for those places ranks right up there with "Got 12?"
Brother Jet, consider it done.
Hotel Del, dinner on the patio - my other must do
mrtommyd, you must report back on how the dinner was!
If you are going from Mobile to Louisville, be sure to wear flowers in your hair.
Well played, Michael.
Very nice.
Mr. TommyD, I live out there for 4 years and have done that drive...it is beautiful and nothing like the south! You really need to go to the Hearst Castle and do something in Monterey.
Brethren,
I've been deep in study. I've been studying and praying over the most difficult book of all -- Revelations.
Chillun, we've heard all these stories lately about the NCAA and the Infidels. I've struggled with my faith that good will overcome evil in this particular matter.
But the Word has taught me again. And the punishment will be unprecedented.
"He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years." -- Revelations 20:7
A thousand years probation? Verily, and amen.
Mon...my daughter was 10 and wanted Dad to be cool and hangglide. I went to great lengths to explain how the scenery could be better enjoyed from the stationary top of the cliff rather than constantly flying around.
I knew you were a wise, wise man, Hoopie.
Brother Jet....verily, verily. AMEN!
It's a long, long way from my sofa to my kitchen, but I'm hungry.
AMEN & HALLELUJAH!!!
C'mom Sister Monica ...
Just put one foot in front of the over. Just like you did on that Sunday mornin' as a child.
Just take the first step.
Consistency is comforting...you can count on Brother Jet to always find the pertinent Biblical Verse.
As for the SoCal discussion -
1 - I agree with Monica (always a wise thing to do). Hotel del Coronado is right cool. The wife and I had Sunday Brunch there which is the most impressive buffet I've EVER seen. I didn't need to eat for two days after, though I probably actually did.
2 - La Jolla is most impressive too. I didn't get to play Torrey since they'd closed the course to the public in preparation for the Buick which was the next week. I did spend a few hours walking around on the course and taking in some amazing scenery (complete with some crazy cliff jumpers).
3 - SD Zoo is a must do.
4 - if I could afford to live anywhere in the world I've visited, that area would be in serious contention. Though not ranked as highly as Kuaui, Hawaii.
And all God's children said, "Amen!"
And on that day, there will be peace in the valley. And the lion shall lay down with the lamb.
We lived in San Diego on one Navy salary. It's not that expensive.
I am hereby declaring the 1:30-2:30 hour Pants off Dance off today. Let the party commence.
Don't make me Billy Idol it, people.
j-z - Item 1, I'm an almost 45 y/o white guy. Ergo, I can't dance. Item 2, I'm pretty sure "pants off" is frowned upon here in the office. I mean, where do you draw the line? There are just some folks around here that would give me bad dreams if I saw them in that state. On the other hand, there are those others...
Just don't look down Norm, don't look down.
Sensi should get Jet to give a speech at Camp War Eagle on the virtue of hating Bama. I think that would make quiet an impression on the incoming students.
J-Z ...
Keep your pants on. Please.
Too late man, I'ma dancing with myself.
depressed,
I will give a big War Eagle at my speaking engagements. It will make you all proud.
Dear children,
I am so sorry that you have to endure this. But soon, oh, soon, in the after-a-while, we won't have to tolerate that anymore.
oh oh a oh
My wife spent some time in San Diego, so she wanted to show me "her" town. I got to show her Montgomery.
Even swap, if you ask me, TommyD.
Dead even.
I'm with Jet...She got to show you the beach and the zoo and you got to show her the zoo and....Airbase Boulevard.
Hotel Del Coronado....there's where they filmed "Some Like it Hot" w/ Marilyn Monroe. It is beautiful!
WEG- I just watched "Some Like It Hot" Pretty good flick, except for the cross dressing deal.
There will be no discussion of crossdressing during my pants off dance off. Thank you.
I've been west of the Mississippi once. I was not impressed with West Memphis, AK.
WEG - the first time I went I was with 4 other girlfriends. We spent the entire evening and into the night out on the patio. Dinner, drinks, music, the scenery (and by scenery I meant gorgeous wait staff). It was just deeee licious.
I don't know, ehyou. I've heard great things about West Memphis, Alaska!
dang Scott, you busted me for an idiot. It's AR.
If it made sense to me, then that's obviously how it should've been done.
Sorry, ehyou, I couldn't resist! Unfortunately, now I'm contemplating what Alaskan mammal might be best barbecued, Memphis-style. Elk and deer have the lead at the moment. Whale is far behind.
I hear that baby seals are delicious barbecued.
West Memphis, Alaska appetizers:
Dry-rubbed Marmot ribs
Fried green tomatoes with lump Beluga meat
Rotten shark with salsa
Walrus fingers with hush puppies
Just for j-z...baby seal satay.
tht,
is that you under the same handle on the scout.com premium board?
I would think our resident chef, Bin, could whip us up a great meal from the cuisine of West Memphis, Alaksa.
Mmmmm....Baby Seal. Kinda like sushi and veal all rolled into one.
But if Padma was handing it to me, I'd be on it like the buffet at Barnhill's.
Speaking of Padma, when is our Hottie Bracket making it's debut?
j-z, don't forget to properly appreciate that it's "on a stick".
Dang it...completely missed that one. But the idea of Padma feeding me food on a stick is pretty awesome.
j-z in the crocodile pit (with or without the crocodiles).
Padma dangling a raw chicken over it (from a stick).
Video at 11:00.
What up peeps!
Why is THT rooting for Detroit? Or have I missed something in the last few days?
Just a rainy day in this state.
where u been AU1?
I have been focused on trying to sell something in this crappy economy for Q2.
Close very close.
Otherwise, I am in a line with a large number of other folks.
How you doing you Hottie!
THT's using reverse psychology AU1
He started it right before game 3, so he's gonna run with it till the end I imagine.
Well that makes sense to me.
Can anyone tell me if there is still a Sun? I haven't seen it for quite some time. It is round and orange like correct?
I am a disciple of the power of positive thinking.
I am positive that I hate UAT!
no sun here today either, AU
fine with me as I've been focused on holding down my sofa
Don't let the sofa get away. I heard whispers of an escape attempt in the works. I think the sofa and tv were the main ones conspiring together.
I may have to recruit some sofa anchoring help.
David Carradine was found dead today.
Count me as a sincere fan.
May he rest in peace.
Telepathic message to Mrs. Jet.
COFFEE!
sunny in Mass!
It's a rainy night in Georgia
Seems like it's raining all over the world
Little drops of rain whisper of the pain, tears of loves lost in the days gone by. My love is strong, with you there is no wrong, together we shall go until we die.
what should we order for dinner?
plenty of rain up here today...
Let it rain
I need rain to disguise the tears in my eyes
Yeah, You know I'm a man, I ain't got no pride,
Til it rains, I'm gonna stay inside,
Let it rain, Let it rain
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Oh how I wish that it would rain...
AU1 - GO RED WINGS!!!
I decided to pull for a winner. We all know Detroit's got this one in the bag.
chip chip - nope, not me. Obviously an impostor who stole my beloved handle. I'll throw money at many various things (not always wisely), but online sports site subscriptions isn't one.
at least not yet, Jay GT ;-)
I am surprised that Carradine committed suicide, but you never know.
Mrs. Jet holds a press conference to announce that dinner tonight at the Hangar will be ...
Jambalaya!
Ayyiiii!
MrsTHT is cooking curry chicken & rice for Molly dog. I probably shouldn't be telling y'all that.
you people have been no help whatsoever
Monnie,
Order that new Papa John's 6 cheese pizza and tell me how it is. I have been craving that baby since I saw the commercial 2 nights ago.
The David Carridine death is eerily similar to the Michael Hutchence (INXS) death.
I wonder if the same questions and suspicions will arrise?
I love it when you talk dirty to me, Aubie
You know it Monnie!
I've been craving the pizza too.
What exactly is meant when people talk about the NCAA "death penalty"?
NCAA death penalty is complete ban of a certain program at a certain school. SMU football was hit with it back in the day.
ban from what? from playing? from tv? from even existing? what?
They had no football team for a couple of years. SMU had a pretty good program before it happened... they have been trash since, which is why many suspect the NCAA will never do the death penalty again.
In a related quiz question, who was the last white player to rush for 1,000 yards in the NFL?
john riggins?
oh, it's related.
Eric Dickerson's cohort, the Craig James
Nope, SMU's own Craig James. He did it for the New England Patriots back in the 80's. Much like at SMU, he was paid for his services, but that time it was legal (which raises the question: should it be legal for abc to pay James for his often moronic commentary?)
Monica-
SMU death penalty details
team on death penalty doesn't play for a certain number of years. Well, you do play some out of conference games, but no conference games. I think it also includes complete scholarship ban etc.
I don't even know anyone other than SMU ever that got a death penalty.
Dang. I was slow. Its too early for me to be here. Time for some coffee and toasted terrorists.
you are right Michael, CJ is not one of the better.
"Analysts" for college football. That word doesn't belong in the same sentence with him.
The link above also explains Kentucky's unofficial death penalty in basketball in the early 50s. NCAA exec told everybody not to schedule KY, so they had no games that year.
thanks for the info, hotties
Menu ... at the Hangar
Jambalaya

Million Dollar Pie
Oh my!
Any opinions on the best reasonably priced seats at Braves games?
Scott Chocolate- Go to Publix and buy you a "buy 1 get 1 Free" outfield pavillian or concourse level seat. I think it runs like $25 or close to it. I've set in the outfield pavillian a few times and I have enjoyed it.
Marian Hossa will have 2 goals tonight for Red Wings, or at least he should. He has 6 goals in 19 playoff games this year, 2 goals in each of the three "Game 4" games on the road. Tonight is Game 4, Red Wings on the road.
Puck drops on Versus in about 5-10 minutes
Go Red Wings!
Go Penguins!
Eddie - If you need an agent, I'm your girl.
Hired- I will give you my demands and you can shop me around while I hold my current employer for randsome. Surely this plan won't backfire.
You know I love the aggressive tactics.
When I get the big salary from my current employer and I don't live up to expectations, do I get a big cushion to retire on?
This not political, but I find it really cool that White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has an Aubie Figure on his desk. I love the thought of Aubie being in the whitehouse.
Only if you're a CEO.
CEO of an Automaker? Maybe, GM?
big cushion?
Yeah, like scrooge mcduck. I want a big windowless room full of money that I can dive into.
"CEO of an Automaker? Maybe, GM?"
Government work is your goal, Eduardo?
Isn't GM government now?
Government Motors
That's about right Jet. I missed my calling I believe.
Screw it, I want a new page.
How Many Licks to the center of a tootsie pop?
