Tennessee is up

TENNESSEE COACH LANE KIFFIN

  • "I can't imagine (the first seven months on the job) going better than it has."

  • Kiffin is proud to have signed Bryce Brown.

  • "It is so hard to recruit in this conference. Kids do not want to leave their state. You have to do something really unique and special to get them to leave their state. We had to create national attention immediately. Nobody gives you four- and five-year plans anymore. Winning games is the easy way (to recruit), but we didn't have time to do that. Tennessee is the most talked-about football program. We're creating interest."

  • On toning down: "It's part of the plan. It's part of the timing of things. In the summer, there wasn't anything to focus on. Now there's something to focus on -- real ball."

  • Kiffin doesn't want to moonlight S Eric Berry, a high-school quarterback, at quarterback this season because UT is running a new defense. He thinks that would negatively affect his development.

  • Kiffin accepted help when filling out his preseason All-SEC ballot because "I didn't know as much about the players in the league."

  • On secondary violations: "We definitely have (gotten Mike Slive's message). Not one of the violations that occurred to us is something we planned. We did not set out to do something ... to gain an advantage. Of our 10 coaches, five of them were in the NFL last season. We probably weren't as educated on the rules and how they're interpreted."

  • On signing Daniel Hood, who was convicted in 2006 of kidnapping and aggravated rape: "You have to look at the incident. It happened five years ago. If you research it enough ... and really knew the exact story of what happened ... it was different than how it was portrayed in the media. It took months to figure it out."

  • "I wish the coach could go out in the spring. I don't get to go out and see the guys."

  • "I can't imagine there's a better recruiter out there than Ed (Orgeron)."

  • On if he has won or lost recruits in Memphis: "Wait until signing day happens and evaluate if we got the players we really went after."

  • On Eddie Gran and his work in south Florida: "Eddie Gran has absolutely blown me away as a coach and a recruiter. Eddie was not on the top of my list. Will Muschamp called me. (Muschamp recommended Gran) He is unbelievable. He's going to do a great job for us down there."

  • Kiffin said his staff has been allowed back into Pahokee High. "The one camera I didn't know was there made it seem like it was a national story. We have moved forward from that."

  • On Orgeron's value as a recruiter: "He's relentless the way he goes about it. Anywhere he's been, the recruitment and development of the players has been phenomenal."

  • He's now discussing individual signees.

  • On getting Johnny Majors back in the fray: "He hadn't been to a (UT) practice in 14 years. He's a huge part of our tradition. It was so neat to see him at practice."

And you're absolutely right - the white chocolate is divine. Yes, Scott, I broke into it on the way home. MMMM!

I''m back, and awake. I decided going to be at 5 pm would really mess up my sleep cycle. So I took a cold shower. While showering, I figured out why I was comatose. The house was 79 degrees and I ate 2 large lunches, the one MrsTHT packed and the one I didn't know was going to be provided:
banana
strawberries
grapes
cheese and wheat thins
turkey sandwich
chips
strawberry nutrigrain bar
diet coke
...that was at 11.

then at 12...
fried chicken
BBQ & cole slaw (went back for 3rds)
new potatoes which I ate like candy
green beans
hush puppies
banana pudding
sweet tea.

I'm tight as a tick.

but at least I'm awake now. I think I'll stick to just cereal and ice cream for supper.

To everyone who was talking about the QB situation, I don't think Kodi Burns will ever start a game at Auburn again.

I could be wrong, and I hope for the kids sake that I am, but I just don't see him getting the mechanics down good enough for someone like Malzhan to trust out there starting the game.

They may have a package or two for him to run, but not as an every down QB.

Rise and shine Hotties!

T-minus 42 days til kickoff!

HAPPY MIKE FULLER DAY!

Michael Darwin Fuller was All-SEC in 1973 & 1974, and All-American in 1974. This safety/kick returner is Auburn's greatest ever punt returner, averaging almost EIGHTEEN yards per return. He once had 2 punt returns for TD in a single game (vs UT-Chattanooga). My favorite Mike Fuller play was in the Gator Bowl vs Texas when he drove a Texas tight end almost twice his size into the turf. Auburn really came to play that day as they stomped the Longhorns 27-3.

Mr. Fuller went on to an outstanding NFL career; he was drafted in the 3rd round by San Diego. In 6 years with the Chargers and 2 with the Bengals, he had 17 interceptions and was one of the NFL's all-time leading punt returners, averaging almost 11 yards/return.

WARRRRRR EAGLE!!

wow, all that football talk and nothing new for a whole week except recruiting talk, sigh, oh well.

I am now starting to hear rumblings that Chris Todd has looked stronger at player run camps than anyone else, thats from my step brother on campus who has seen a few practices.

7:26 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

PDWT...I realize that you haven't been around much, but for the past 3 mo., any positive statements regarding Todd cause a stir in Steve's Columbia cave.....resulting in a calvacade of loosly connected qb ramblings that generally support Todd. I fear you may have started a new round of rumblings.

8:23 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Six weeks!

8:23 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Even though Todd's shoulder obviously gave out last year, he always looked much more in control of the offense than Kodi did. That and the fact that he has more game experience than Caudle is why I think he has the edge.

I don't think either of the freshmen start this year unless it's a late season switch. I don't think they can learn to run the offense with 4 weeks of practice. I hope one is groomed for next year.

I trust Malzahn to make the best decision for the team and I expect we'll know the starter by the second week of practice.

8:28 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Steve and I have the same rumbles.

8:30 AM

However, if Todd recovers well and excels this season, I think I will petition the New England Journal of Medicine to have his procedure memorialized as "Chris Todd Surgery."

morning and a happy Mike Fuller #42 Day to hotties everywhere!

yall hear that Tennessee had a Jr. College transfer sign and enroll at UT a couple days ago? he was 1st Team JUCO All-American QB and has 4 years to play 3. he is eligible immediately. craziness. apparently he fell under the rader b/c he was supposed to be there for 2 years but got out in 1.

8:36 AM
Blogger patdyeswildturkey said...

Kodi, besides running for his life on each play hasnt impressed me, YET. He will be a Jr.

Caudle...I am optimistic, we will see. He will be a Jr.

Todd-who knows...

All three freshman will be redshirted.

Poor Barrett TRotter-sidelined ACL

With seven qbs on the roster and six returning next year I will make the great prediction that one or two of those will not be there or at that same position in two years.

The reason why I dont wont make predictions on this year is because I have no clue. We will live and die on our qb play. My only hope is that we return to running the ball this year and hopefully that will take the pressure off the qb to do soooo much.

8:46 AM
Blogger Jet said...

The more I pick up ... the more I think about it ... it looks like it's Caudle ... unless it's Todd ... unless it's Kodi.

That is, until Tyrik grabs the job.

This Tailgate Guys crap is just that... a load of crap!

All the changes from the past few years, pushing fans further and further off campus and now this? They are taking part of the Auburn gameday tradition and trying to offer up some strange perversion of it.

What's next? No cheering in the stands allowed unless you purchase that right from someone?

Hmmm, cave? I refer to it as the hermitage. I know it is controversial for a fan living in South Carolina to declare the starting QB, but remember where you heard it first. Again, this isn't to say I think Todzilla will be great. It is just that he appears to be the best option we have. Kodi will likely get moved to another position, possibly deep snapper.

12:04 PM

Chad Slade apparently is a big body at 6-6. It doesn't look like he was too highly recruited, but you can't coach height. I take this as a good sign.

Tuberville has to take the blame for last season. It is the head coaches job and if the offensive staff couldn't learn how to work and play well together, it is up to the head coach to take the necessary steps to fix it.
