Days to kickoff: 8

Our Tar Heel Tiger's Auburn Minute is brought to you by the number:

8

HAPPY CALVIN JACKSON DAY!!!

Calvin Jackson, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was a standout cornerback for Auburn 1992 and 1993. He was named All-SEC during his final season.

No Hottie will ever forget his 96-yard, momentum-changing interception return against the Gators in 1993. What would have been a 17-0 deficit became a much more manageable 10-7 deficit and lit the fire the Tigers needed to torch the Gators 38-35.

That game was serious excitement. So what did the PICK SIX look like from my seat? I have no idea. Disgusted at the thought of the Gators scoring yet again, I went to get THTJr the hot dog he had requested much earlier. The deafening roar that arose left little doubt what had happened.

When I returned with the dogs & drinks, my next major decision: Do I sit and watch the game or do I go back to the concourse so Auburn can score again? Thankfully, my position had no bearing on the outcome and I was able to watch one of the most thrilling victories ever at Jordan-Hare.

Mr. Jackson's return is the second-longest in school history. The longest was in Digger's and IV's childhood days when John Liptak had a 98-yard INT return against Georgia.

HONORABLE MENTION:

* Cooper Wallace: Nashville, Tenn.; TE 2002-05.

* Shayne Wasden: Selma, Ala.; WR 1988-90; ACADEMIC ALL-SEC in 1990.

* Stanford Simmons: Ashland, Ala.; FS 1999-01.

* Jerry Beasley: Montgomery, Ala.; CB 1977-80; yes, Terry's brother.

* Chris Knapp: Americus, Ga.; PK 1985-87; leading scorer in 1986; ranks 6th in career PAT pct (62/63).

* Jerraud "Jerrard" Powers: Decatur, Ala., CB 2005-08. Very good player.

Jason Campbell actually looks decent tonight in pre-season. Kind of like he looked in the transition from 2003 - 2004. Someone at the Redskins put some zip in his pass too!

Hey Mon, did you get my e-mail for the tales?

Hey Gaines - I'm sorry! I got it, but I didn't realize I had it until I just looked again.

10:05 PM
Blogger Monica said...

will they just let a preseason end in a tie?

10:07 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Mon ...

They should, but, no, they play OT. Almost had it a couple of weeks ago, but the QB fumbled and the defense ran it in for a TD.

On ESPNU is last year's Tennessee-South Carolina game ... Fulmer vs. Spurrier ... it's kinda sad ... they look like has-beens.

Auburn soccer ended tied 1-1 after 2 overtimes. 110 minutes, that is a seriously long game

Mon-I read the same article. I hear the school is saying the coaches are disagreeing with each other and arguing. I mentioned to Eddie the other about an internet rumor that Luper and T Jackson were feuding and Luper threatened to leave if T Jackson was not fired. Then Goldberg writes that the two of them had a man hug on the field the other day and were laughing as a sign of putting that rumor to bed. Goldberg said someone had mentioned the rumor to them.d

Eddie...sorry about the Rollison express.

We gotta get you to stop the yo-yo-emo thing.

Last week you thought the season was doomed because a couple of LBs were on the sideline and the coaches may have to play some nickel to cover for the Lbs.

Now you hear from someone that the coaches are feeling good, so now things are much better.

I realize that you know this , but maybe a quick reminder...it's a long season....there will be much good and bad stuff to happen.....take it in stride and relax that emo a little. You will be happier and it won't even affect the season outcome.

No offense to the soccer team, but glad I didn't stay for that one.

Hey Cincy, were you at the game?

10:18 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

No, I'm so starved for Auburn sports I followed it on Gametracker. How sad is that?

Sure, Hoopie! Kick the man when hes' down! What about a little Auburn brotherly luv?

It was a good game. I saw most of the game. The girls played hard.

Still haven't committed to jumping to ESPNU yet. Juggling deals between Dish, Direct and Comcast.

Direct seems to have the best deal, but has conflicting info regarding ESPNU. The phone salesman promises ESPNU, but won't put in writing.....hmmmm.

10:23 PM
Blogger wtc said...

If only I had the time to get into that stuff Mon, I might could get an answer for some of those die hard recruiting buffs.

I can promise I have NEVER watched a HS video clip of any recruit. Why would you? Do people think they are going to show plays where the kid is awful?

10:23 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

WDCEWE, I was there. I was the one fussing at her kids every two seconds to sit down or quit running into people, etc. You may have heard me.

Actually Mon, except for the Rollison thingy....Eddie seems very positive now. We're good....He knows I had a ticket for the train also.

Kristina, That was you?? Just kidding. Having kids out there was great. You forget sometimes in college that people below the age of 18 exist.

I can't wait for the next opportunity to use the phrase "yo yo emo"

question for the hotties, since this is easily the most knowledgeable group out there. direct tv or the dish? i am sick of charter.

10:31 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

We also have ESPNU with direct.

Were you with Eeeyore, WDC...you have too hard of an acronym for me to remember.

10:32 PM
Blogger j-z said...

That's odd. Sometimes I forget people between the ages of 8 and 33 exist.

How was your cheeseburger, JZ?

10:35 PM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

i have Comcast (in TN of course) but we now have ESPNU. it's not in HD, though. :(

10:36 PM
Blogger WDCWE said...

I was not, but I thought that it was an interesting choice of costume to wear to a game. Eeyore is a depressed donkey... not something that inspires spirit. I do have to say that he was very entertaining at halftime.

Yeah, my acronym is interesting. It stand for War Damn Camp War Eagle. CWE is the freshman orientation program at Auburn. I spent two summers of my life dedicated to the program. One for the terrified parents of incoming freshmen and the next with the freshmen. Great Experience. Wonderful program. War Damn.

thx ehyou. i called direct tv, and the experience was like buying a car. big turnoff. finally had to hang up on the guy.

10:38 PM

Well, now that I know what it means that should help.

10:38 PM

It's part of a trilogy, a musical trilogy I'm working on in D minor which is the saddest of all keys, I find. People weep instantly when they hear it, and I don't know why.

we had direct and cancelled it for dish lol

we have locals in HD

10:39 PM
Blogger Monica said...

ehyou are you drunk again tonight?

10:39 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

sponge, I agree. Dealing with those directv people directly was awful. We didn't choose them for a while because of the. But going thru AT&T to order it was fine.

10:40 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

mon now that you have dish, you like it better? is one cheaper than the other.

10:40 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

No, but I am

Mon...

10:42 PM
Blogger Monica said...

we had a really cheap intro rate, but after 6 months it will probably be about the same - but the locals deal is MUCH better and our signal is better - of course that is specific to our area

i've heard lots of people say it's about 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other and just depends on your specific needs and desires

10:43 PM
Blogger j-z said...

I love HABOTN after Dark.

10:43 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

kristina. it beats anything i ever saw dealing with them. the guy keeps asking me for my credit card and saying, you know you want it. You know its the best deal. a real hard sell. I told him...look cowboy, i am not buying a car here. just checking prices. i was mad for an hour.

The packages I looked at on the internet required me to purchase the all-inclusive package to get ESPNU. The salesperson on the phone stated that it was also on a less inclusive/expensive package. We wouldn't make use of special TV packages, so getting ESPNU with as little else as possible would be most desirable.
