If we're picking kickers, I'll select the walk-on when we had three on schollies ... Dr. Win Lyle. As my alternate, I'll take Scott Etheridge.

By the way, I don't know if you guys heard this, someone told me that RK said Pat Washington was Auburn's best QB ever.

Can you believe that guy?

Lyle and Etheridge...yes indeed, both excellent choices.

Ed Dyas wasn't half bad. I think that was before they realized FGs counted more than an XP.

I knew that would get a rise out of George W. You should have had both of his legs broken before he left AU.

If you don't like McGinty, how about Chris Knapp?

2:10 PM
Blogger Jet said...

As a surgeon, I doubt Dr. Lyle supports a public option in any proposed health care reform.

I offer that just in case that has any impact on your opinions in the body politick.

Just kiddin', Jay G. It's not like we'd listen to a kicker. Eltoro? Sure. A kicker? Not so much.

Blogger Jet said...

Knapp was a fine human, and was one of three Chris kickers on scholly when Lyle arrived (Johnson and Dickinson were the others).

Knapp nearly became a hero in the 1986 debacle at The Swamp when his 50-plus yard FG try on the last play drifted right. If we had been 3-4 yards closer, he has enough to hold the line.

Of course, that was the game that (NAME REDACTED) kicked a FG for the Gators. Reggie Ware fumbled on the final possession before Florida's last drive, Aundray Bruce committed a stupid personal foul, and Kerwin Bell, who had a handicapped tag attached to his helmet, ran the 10 in 10 seconds.

How much extra to have our name stitched above the HABOTN link on the cap?

It would make for easier identification at games. That way when I see Steve, I'll know to remove my hat quickly as not to be seen. Or if I see Ehyou, I can pull out the jar of Duke's Mayonnaise I'm lugging around in a cooler for him.

I'm getting very frustrated with these people that hate Brett Favre... The guy is a living, playing legend...Just because he keeps returning because he cant give up the game he loves people hate him? I will never understand how people can say bad things about him when he single handily has every passing record known to NFL stats.
The main reason people are hating on him is because of the media coverage 24/7, this isnt his fault.
Most NFL MVP awards
Most consecutive starts 269
Most TD passes... Read More
Most passing yards
Most passes completed
Most seasons over 3000 yards-16!

2:37 PM

Jhag, he swindled the Jets into releasing him so he could take his deal with the Vikings...otherwise they could have gained something of value instead of just letting him walk. If he's going to act in a manner not befitting someone of his stature then he is obviously willing to deal with the criticism. I'm not one to argue his position in terms of all-time greatness but his production drastically fell off last year and I think most fans, myself included are just tried of him yanking people around for the sake of his ego.

As long as someone is offering me employment, why is it bad of me to take them up on the offer? This is regardless of any records i hold are past performance. You can't bash a guy for saying yes to a job offer. More power to him, this is America.

And no, this is not tarnishing his legacy at all. This will be a footnote in his bio, like Michael Jordan and so many others have done. This won't make you forget the good years he had.

Favre has lost more games by being stupid and throwing too many INTs than he has won by playing well.
He holds those records because of longevity, not because he was the greatest ever. He certainly was not anywhere close to that. He has also thrown more interceptions than anyone else too.
He's overrated.
The only thing I will give him props on, is his toughness. And a lot of that came from ignorance and bravado.

At this point in his career, I think I'd rather trot out Sage Rosenfels than Favre. He'll cost the Vikes more games this year than he will win for them.

3:27 PM
Blogger ehyou said...

I left myself a note that said I had Favre permanently removed from my memory. It went on to say that I would be a much happier person for the procedure. I think I agree with myself.

3:30 PM
Blogger michael said...

Yeah, I think they should have tried Rosenfels too. I think Favre won't last the whole season. I do think you are downplaying how good he was in his prime, though. Certainly one of the top QBs of all time.

But still, for Favre, I can't blame him. I know if I were his age at my job, I wouldn't feel like retiring. That is tough for football players to take. So I don't blame Favre any.

Just in case people didn't see this earlier...

Anyone seen this?

From mrsec.com

A couple of months ago, we told you that Ole Miss had reached an agreement to allow a television crew inside their program to create a reality series based on UM’s 2009 football campaign.

Yesterday, we told you that Houston Nutt had changed his mind, worried that the producers would need too much access to his team.

Back in mid-July, Nutt had this to say about the “Gridiron U.” project:

“I just feel pretty good — I’ve discussed things with Gridiron U. and our players. And we’ve got to be able to handle it. And hopefully we put blinders on and go to work. They will be here a total of about two and a half weeks; maybe three if they can get here the last week of workouts in the summer.”

Obviously, that’s all out the window now.

Enter Auburn’s Gene Chizik who apparently isn’t concerned about giving up too much access. It was announced yesterday that AU will be the subject of a weekly 30-minute reality series to air on CSS.

“Auburn Football: Every Day” is being produced by a company called Authentic Films, but the Auburn athletic department will also have a hand in things.

As we said of the Ole Miss idea back in July, this could prove to be a heckuva recruiting tool. And with the Tiger Prowl and Big Cat Weekend, it’s obvious that Chizik and crew know how to create buzz in the recruiting world.

One thing to note on Auburn’s decision to do reality and Ole Miss’ decision not to… these two coaches are in two completely different places.

Chizik is in his first year. He faces mid-level expectations this year. Quite simply, there’s very little to lose. The potential recruiting gains outweigh any potential negatives.

As for Nutt, well, there’s a whole bunch to lose. If Ole Miss’ players couldn’t deal with the spotlight, Nutt would be kicking himself.

And if the Rebels’ season goes down in flames, fans could kick Nutt for allowing a “distraction” to creep into his program.

Auburn looks confident in this move. Ole Miss looks a bit more timid in their decision. But Ole Miss has a whole lot more to lose than Auburn.

OKAY! I'm back from the gym, hardcore lifting session to clear my mind of Favre, I just love the guy, sorry for getting rattled up...Your all the best and lets play some damn football

Naw, my dad told me about a Puppet Hour they had on HABOTN in the 60's that was even worse. A couple of Hotties died. My dad still lives with some guilt from that day. He wonders if he could have done more. I have always told him yes, you should have done more, and you should probably drink to forget about it. I think that was sound advice.

It was a different time.

Back from the gym, eh jhag... easily angered... gang, I think we need to have a roid intervention with jhag!

It'll be interesting to see if the athletic dept's hand in things causes the "reality" show to take some strange turns.

4:34 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

agreed Michael. bury those emotions deep down, where they belong. Cover with alcohol and strippers, repeat

4:34 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Is it time to break out the new HABOTN Wellness policy, when do we start getting randomly tested for performance enhancers?

4:35 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

If you have to release some held up anger somewhere, you should always release it on someone who isn't at all at fault.

That's my advice for the day.

As a member of the Hotties Union, I am against all drug testing. There is no problem here. This is just like when they took the cocaine away from us during Puppet Hours in the 80's. FREEDOM!

4:36 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

does huffing gas show up on a drug test? If not I'm all for testing

4:38 PM
Blogger michael said...

Though against drug testingo n HABOTN, I am all for drug guilt voting. Like if maybe three of us vote that jhag is on roids, he has to go to counseling or else we ignore him like he's fang. And if we catch him with roids, we make him do the entire cycle's worth right there in front of us to teach him a lesson, just like dads used to make their kids smoke the entire carton of cigarettes at once back in the old days. Teach him a lesson.

4:38 PM
Blogger michael said...

feng not fang. Though we would ignore fang too.

4:39 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

why don't we throw him in a lake and if he sinks he's not on roids and we'll leave him alone

4:39 PM
Blogger michael said...

Sounds good. Now the only thing left to do is form a HABOTN Lake Search Committee to fin the most central lake location so that all can attend. I am guessing it will be somewhere in the Atlantic thanks to Aeronaut.

4:41 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

As long as there isn't an alcohol test if we go 5-7 again, because I'll get a lifetime ban.

Unless we're testing for people who don't drink when a disasterous 5-7 season comes along, then I'll be fine.

4:41 PM
Blogger Harrison said...

The Atlantic is not a lake Michael

4:42 PM
Blogger michael said...

Harrison, the Atlantic is huge. There has to be a lake in there somewhere. There are like 1,000 lakes in Minnesota, and it's only two thirds the size of the Atlantic!

4:42 PM
Blogger michael said...

rk, the Hotties Union could support reverse alcohol testing during a 5-7 season with a minimum BAC allowed. Someone form a HABOTN BAC Committe to figure out what that limit should be.

4:44 PM
Blogger michael said...

Never trust a puppet.

MJT OUT!

4:45 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

I say if you can still post legibly then your BAC is not high enough for a 5-7 season...although some on here don't really post legibly while perfectly sober, so nevermind. (yes, I am often one of them)

Just putting this out there- If anyone has some tickets for this season (season tickets or individual games), I would be very interested in 2 of them.

When I don't have tickets, I just keep walking around the stadium. Near the end of the 3rd quarter, you can just walk right in.

Eddie,

I have been to MANU stadium in golly ole england... we had business meeting in the venue and got to tour the field and locker rooms... it was really cool.. you would be shocked how basic the locker rooms were.. like grade schools stuff...

6:29 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

DL- that's pretty awesome stuff there. My brother has also been, but not inside the locker room. Do you have any photos?

6:32 PM
Blogger Dear Leader said...

Yes, but I will have to find them... it was in my transition stage between film and digital (1992ish)...

I will look this weekend.

Please share if you find them. I would love to see them.

So, the NCAA is investigating Bryce Brown and his amateur status. Was he the player who had the "mentor" handling his recruitment? Seems like bad timing for UT.

Scottie B... you would give FUBU a run for their money!! Look for my fax in the morning!

Brett Farve... I am convinced that anything that gets too much public attention automatically gets scorned by the masses. Farve is still one of the top 10 most interesting QBs to watch in this league and and the 2nd most exciting on the Vikings team (albeit I can probably only name 3).

AU Football reality show is a good thing as long as the camera is on Trooper more than Chizik. On second thought that might be a bad thing. Cant have the HC getting overshadowed by an assistant.
