Wow, that's a thrilling pre-SEC schedule that should pack at least 900 into the arena each n ight.

I'm not optimistic that the bball sked is gonna stop the greatest coach discussions.

There are reasonable, even salient points being made....but.....that classic argument will never end, so I don't really care.

5:55 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

I used to work at a company full of Indiana guys and Italian guys. If you were one of those, you had a leg up. If you were both, you were really in luck. I was neither. I finally got into a part of the company where that didn't matter, but not before learning more than I ever wanted to know about Indiana.

5:56 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Assuming AU's best basketball coach was Eaves:
1. Was he "great" or "good"?
2. If merely "good", was he a better basketball coach or was Shug a better football coach?
3. Or was Shug a better basketball coach?

How's that, Hoopie?

6:00 PM
Blogger Monica said...

Where do I apply, Scott?

6:01 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Mon, are you saying you qualify as an Italian, an Indianan, or a guy?...or are you saying you like Italian and/or Indianan guys?...or something else?

6:06 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Did I mention I also worked at a company where calf measurements were everything?

6:08 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Scott...see what I mean? haha

Mon.. thanks for the vid. The ESPN camera struggled to follow the ball. Ball St was awful tackling in space. Couldn't tell if their LBs were just very slow to pursue or didn't know where to pursue.

SEC defenses won't wait to stand back an read like BSt tried. We will need to effect the misdirection/options quick enuff to beat the typical SEC pressure D.

Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Blogger IV said...

Whose calves Scott Choc?

6:15 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Where's Dayton Beach, FL? Is that in Ohio County?

6:16 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

The first two plays in that video scared me as I think they went for a combined 1.5 yards.

The other thing that concerned me was the offense the way it was on that video can't be ran by Chris Todd anywhere near as effectively as the Tulsa QB. Most of the QB reads will probably be eliminated until we get Gus' QB into the system.

6:17 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh...Mon...if you'll sing and dress like Marylyn, we'll turn the dial up on the party next year.

6:19 PM
Blogger IV said...

I say give Todd a chance. You are making that judgment on what you saw last year. Todd could be better, he could be worse;however, I think that Gus and Coach Chizik saw him as our best option this year for sure. I tend to agree with them.

6:19 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

RK...yup, I agree.

6:20 PM
Blogger IV said...

I also believe his QB is in the system. He is a freshman that they feel that they can red shirt this year and give him more time to develop.

6:21 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

IV,

I agree that Todd is probably our best option for this year. My comment was more on the QB running plays. He doesn't have the speed or quickness to run a lot of the plays that Tulsa ran in the video that Monica posted.

We'll have to adapt Gus' offense to the QB this year.

6:22 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Geez. I bet we still don't make the tournament based on this schedule and Lebo will still live to see another day. They must be saving him hoping that North Carolina will open up the new arena!

6:22 PM
Blogger ADP said...

A conversation about Auburn's greatest basketball coach? Really? How long would that take?

6:24 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Hmmm, nobody took the bait on the basketball coach discussion. You'd think we were a football school or something.

IV - Monica has a thing for calves. I think it's different than the thing Michael has for sheep/goats.

6:25 PM
Blogger IV said...

WERK, I don't disagree in part re your last post, but I still believe that you are basing your opinion on what you saw last year. We really don't know what Todd can do. He may or he may not surprise us. I would like to think that the coaches believe the former. I am trying to.

6:25 PM
Blogger ADP said...

I refuse to speculate on what's going to happen Saturday. This is a first for me. AFTER saturday, I'm going to have plenty to say. I just have no earthly idea what to expect at this point. None. Nada. Zilch.

Greatest hoops coach is Sonny Smith. Argument over.

6:26 PM
Blogger ABOUT TIGER TALES said...

Couldn't we wait and see how Todd does with Malzahn's offense before we decide what he can't do?

Hoopie - That's a deal. Until then, Happy Belated Birthday, Mr. Hoopie.

Scott - Italian's with nice calves? Sigh...I wouldn't get a bit of work done.

Blogger ABOUT TIGER TALES said...

6:27 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

IV,

Todd's problem last year was a horrible offense and his shoulder. I saw enough of him running to know that he isn't the runner that the QB in the Tulsa video is.

I have no doubt he can be an effective game manager though.

6:27 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I'm just saying that Chris Todd is not a fast, quick or explosive runner. I don't think I've over stepping my bounds to say that.

6:29 PM

Humm, Monica-calves, Michael-goats, hmmmm. Did I ever tell you about the papaya far m I had in Rhode Island that was bigger than the whole state of Texas?

Blogger ADP said...

Chris Todd will throw passes. People will catch passes. People will run the ball and block and tackle. This is what I know.

6:31 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

I was mostly kidding about the basketball coach thing. I loved Sonny, though!

6:31 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Phred, if we get people catching passes and players blocking then we're already a step ahead of last year.

6:32 PM
Blogger Monica said...

WERK I don't think you're overstepping either.

Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

RK ... SEC Tournament is in Cashville this year.

Apparently we WR's blocking too, huh? It will be interesting to see how it develops this year and as they recruit over the next 2 years.

6:33 PM
Blogger ADP said...

How about ... people will attempt to catch passes. People will attempt to run and block and tackle. Tommy Trott will look like he is going to catch it, but bat it down at the last second like he is trying to spike it.

6:38 PM
Blogger IV said...

WERK, I don't think that you are over stepping your bounds at all. I like to discuss things from all perspectives. Yours is a good one and I respect you for what you have to say. I know you don't run on your shoulder but I believe that injuries do affect your entire body and can affect your performance in other areas. A healthy Todd may be slower than paydays, you may have a point. My point is we don't know what a healthy Todd can do in this system. I am not singing Todd's praise because I would not have given him a snowball's chance in Tuscaloser of being our starter after Spring practice. However he is and now I think it is time to see just what he can do. I just hope that he makes us all proud of his efforts.

Chris Todd has impressed the coaching staff, and that is all that matters. Apparently Gus believes he can get the job done, and I have no reason at this point to not trust him. So my faith lies in Gus.

A little known fact with you youngsters I am sure. Coach Eaves not only was our head BB coach, he coached ends for Coach Jordan on the FB team. They did that in the day. They didn't have all that many asst. coaches, so some had to double. I think Coach Eaves was our best BB coach followed by Suitcase Sonny. I sure hated it when Jawjah got him to be their AD.

IV - you asked about the Koreans in and around Duluth in the last thread. I wasn't here then, but the way I've consistently heard it is that after the '96 Olympics, it was the Koreans more than any other foreign citizens who chose to stay. I'd venture an excellent guess that where Duluth is concerned, there are more Asians than any other group. The rest of the county is likely a south of the border majority.

I knew about the Latino invasion in Gwinett County; however, it does not seem to have expanded at all, maybe contracting somewhat. But I just was surprised to see the amount of influx with the Koreans. Did you make it to the game? Gaines was there and he says that he remembers you as well.

Yes, my wife and I were there. My daughter plays in PHS band so it was nice to only have to drive 15 minutes to spend some time with her. We took it to the house around the end of the 3rd.

Fair Warning, if any of you or your peeps are ever driving in front of me and are all over the road, I WILL dial up the police with your tag number and other pertinent information about your car. I'll also offer valuable insight such as; you are likely drunk, texting, or quite possibly the worst driver ever. Just ask the driver of a late model Maxima (grey) Michigan tag CAA 6020. Interesting to find out your daughter is in PHS band. They are very good and have been for awhile. They have made all of us here in Prattville very proud of them.. Got an across the street neighbor in the band. IMHO, they out performed the PHS offense last Saturday night. BTW, if you ever get behind a Chevy PU truck with Auburn plate reading CLH IV and it is weaving, please don't call me in. I ain't drunk, just getting real old. My wife, 7 years my junior, won't drive at night anymore. I am still trying to and am being very careful. Hey, I was passed by a Maserati this weekend too. They're not terribly uncommon around here. This one did happen to be doing a respectable speed for a Maserati. That same speed is not respectable in a Tahoe so I kept it at 75. He's just lucky he wasn't driving a $*@(@$&(#* Maxima, I'd have probably hit him.

I'm not interested in accuracy here, but I think it's about 4 days 22 hours til kickoff. Does that make Kickoff Kountdown Day 4 legit?

Not to hijack this topic, but I wanted you all to know the outcome of my daughter's tests. Abbie tested positive for cystic fibrosis today. Needless to say my wife and I are devastated. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers that were done for our family in the past few days. Please continue to pray for us. With His help, we are going to take things one day at a time and give my beautiful daughter the best care we can.

Thanks again.

FSJ, I wish you and yours the best. I can't imagine what you are going through, but I do know that you have made the right first step by putting as much as you feel like you can in God's hands. As I said before, I wished that I could take her place in all of this. It just upsets me to see a child have to fight their way through life with this kind of thing trying to hold them back. God does still perform miracles each and every day. Don't give up. I will try to use my influence with our maker to send one of those miracles your way.

Love and family is stronger than anything a doctor can tell you, FSJ. ill s I will keep your daughter, and your family in my prayers. God will see you through it.

FSJ, I don't even know where to start, but know that we will be praying for the strength and perserverance that you and your family need to get through this trial. Football seems kind of trivial when you're dealing with a sick child.

After hearing of Faker's little Abbie having a challenge to deal with in her life, I think I will call it a night, go do some soul searching, pray for a sweet little girl and give God my thanks once again for all of the blessings he has given me. Goodnight all.

Just checking in. I had one of those nights saturday night where you wish to quit drinking and for several minutes swear it off for life. But that ended and I'm back. I'm going Joe Frazier day- just remember him blowing folks up at fullback for Stephen Davis in 94. Highly underrated. I like this countdown cause it does remind you of good times and good memories with some of the old players. A few we did not get to countdown b/c their jersey # was too high.

Let's get going jhag.

I say AU wins by 28 going away. For the first time in years AU will not ease off the gas while they are ahead. AU scores 40 points to open the season.

How does that sound?
