i guess northwestern montana st tech is disappointed they didn't make the non-confernece schedule
#1 from chicago
Here I am to save the day!
What a schedule that is. Big-time teams up and down the list.
It's not as bad as it has been, but what in the world is IPUIPIUI?
I am anxiously awaiting the mobile version of HABOTN. How we coming on that?
Three ACC is better than we've ever had. We're a few games from having a respectable Non conference schedule!!!!!!
Happy "Smokin" Joe Frazier Day!! Had to give a shout out to my LB (fraternity Line Brother) and tailgate partner.
UofK played IUIPUI back when i was there. Indiana something.
When do season tickets go on sale?
Somebody alert Barry McKnight.
Auburn is playing Troy in basketball.
Care for a prediction?
Mattie told Hattie
About the thing she saw
Had two big horns
And a wooly jaw
IUPUI! IUPUI!
Auburn Football: it is neither true or false, it is a state of mind.
Jay G is the man.
Scottie - when do i get my hat?
IUPUI = Indiana University/Purdue University of Indiana.
Wow, that's a thrilling pre-SEC schedule that should pack at least 900 into the arena each n ight.
IUPUI: Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis
Scott Choc gets the cigar for correctly identifying IUPUI.
Which game is at the Sommet Center in Nashville? There was no (4) beside any games. Is it the SEC tourney?
That's a chocolate cigar of course.
WERK, Does it matter?
Ah, Indianapolis, not Indiana.
If you live closer to Nashville than Auburn, it matters.
Have you seen this?
Malzahn's offense Tulsa Cut Ups
Found it in Goldberg's article:
http://blog.al.com/goldmine/2009/08/gus_malzahn_ready_to_show_off.html
Good point WERK.
I'm not optimistic that the bball sked is gonna stop the greatest coach discussions.
There are reasonable, even salient points being made....but.....that classic argument will never end, so I don't really care.
I used to work at a company full of Indiana guys and Italian guys. If you were one of those, you had a leg up. If you were both, you were really in luck. I was neither. I finally got into a part of the company where that didn't matter, but not before learning more than I ever wanted to know about Indiana.
Assuming AU's best basketball coach was Eaves:
1. Was he "great" or "good"?
2. If merely "good", was he a better basketball coach or was Shug a better football coach?
3. Or was Shug a better basketball coach?
How's that, Hoopie?
Where do I apply, Scott?
Mon, are you saying you qualify as an Italian, an Indianan, or a guy?...or are you saying you like Italian and/or Indianan guys?...or something else?
Did I mention I also worked at a company where calf measurements were everything?
Scott...see what I mean? haha
Mon.. thanks for the vid. The ESPN camera struggled to follow the ball. Ball St was awful tackling in space. Couldn't tell if their LBs were just very slow to pursue or didn't know where to pursue.
SEC defenses won't wait to stand back an read like BSt tried. We will need to effect the misdirection/options quick enuff to beat the typical SEC pressure D.
::yawn::
show me this again in January.
Whose calves Scott Choc?
Where's Dayton Beach, FL? Is that in Ohio County?
The first two plays in that video scared me as I think they went for a combined 1.5 yards.
The other thing that concerned me was the offense the way it was on that video can't be ran by Chris Todd anywhere near as effectively as the Tulsa QB. Most of the QB reads will probably be eliminated until we get Gus' QB into the system.
Oh...Mon...if you'll sing and dress like Marylyn, we'll turn the dial up on the party next year.
I say give Todd a chance. You are making that judgment on what you saw last year. Todd could be better, he could be worse;however, I think that Gus and Coach Chizik saw him as our best option this year for sure. I tend to agree with them.
RK...yup, I agree.
I also believe his QB is in the system. He is a freshman that they feel that they can red shirt this year and give him more time to develop.
IV,
I agree that Todd is probably our best option for this year. My comment was more on the QB running plays. He doesn't have the speed or quickness to run a lot of the plays that Tulsa ran in the video that Monica posted.
We'll have to adapt Gus' offense to the QB this year.
Geez. I bet we still don't make the tournament based on this schedule and Lebo will still live to see another day. They must be saving him hoping that North Carolina will open up the new arena!
A conversation about Auburn's greatest basketball coach? Really? How long would that take?
Hmmm, nobody took the bait on the basketball coach discussion. You'd think we were a football school or something.
IV - Monica has a thing for calves. I think it's different than the thing Michael has for sheep/goats.
WERK, I don't disagree in part re your last post, but I still believe that you are basing your opinion on what you saw last year. We really don't know what Todd can do. He may or he may not surprise us. I would like to think that the coaches believe the former. I am trying to.
I refuse to speculate on what's going to happen Saturday. This is a first for me. AFTER saturday, I'm going to have plenty to say. I just have no earthly idea what to expect at this point. None. Nada. Zilch.
Greatest hoops coach is Sonny Smith. Argument over.
Couldn't we wait and see how Todd does with Malzahn's offense before we decide what he can't do?
Hoopie - That's a deal. Until then, Happy Belated Birthday, Mr. Hoopie.
Scott - Italian's with nice calves? Sigh...I wouldn't get a bit of work done.
grrrrrrrrrr
I hate when I do this!
Monica
IV,
Todd's problem last year was a horrible offense and his shoulder. I saw enough of him running to know that he isn't the runner that the QB in the Tulsa video is.
I have no doubt he can be an effective game manager though.
I'm just saying that Chris Todd is not a fast, quick or explosive runner. I don't think I've over stepping my bounds to say that.
Humm, Monica-calves, Michael-goats, hmmmm. Did I ever tell you about the papaya far m I had in Rhode Island that was bigger than the whole state of Texas?
Chris Todd will throw passes. People will catch passes. People will run the ball and block and tackle. This is what I know.
I was mostly kidding about the basketball coach thing. I loved Sonny, though!
Phred, if we get people catching passes and players blocking then we're already a step ahead of last year.
WERK I don't think you're overstepping either.
RK ... SEC Tournament is in Cashville this year.
Apparently we WR's blocking too, huh? It will be interesting to see how it develops this year and as they recruit over the next 2 years.
How about ... people will attempt to catch passes. People will attempt to run and block and tackle. Tommy Trott will look like he is going to catch it, but bat it down at the last second like he is trying to spike it.
Phred,
You've already downgraded us. I liked your previous post better.
I think most of the attempts will be sucessful.
You guys need to check this out
http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/MessageTopic.asp?p=14898307&Pg=1
Its all kinds of SEC making jokes about our Walk On LB Wade Christopher its hillarious, they are acting like he is Chuck Norris
WERK, I don't think that you are over stepping your bounds at all. I like to discuss things from all perspectives. Yours is a good one and I respect you for what you have to say. I know you don't run on your shoulder but I believe that injuries do affect your entire body and can affect your performance in other areas. A healthy Todd may be slower than paydays, you may have a point. My point is we don't know what a healthy Todd can do in this system. I am not singing Todd's praise because I would not have given him a snowball's chance in Tuscaloser of being our starter after Spring practice. However he is and now I think it is time to see just what he can do. I just hope that he makes us all proud of his efforts.
Luv- Cheerwine=the best North Carolina soft drink invention; Pepsi=the worst North Carolina soft drink invention.
Howdy Hotties. Long day in prison and then lots of errands.
THT- I'll pretend you didn't just say that. I'm a die hard Diet Pepsi guy. Best diet soda on the market!!!! :)
Chris Todd has impressed the coaching staff, and that is all that matters. Apparently Gus believes he can get the job done, and I have no reason at this point to not trust him. So my faith lies in Gus.
Eddie - as far as I know, those are the only 2 North Carolina soft drink inventions. SInce Cheerwine is the best, by default, Pepsi is the worst.
That being said, I'm a bit disloyal to my native land as I am a HUGE fan of that Georgia Coffee.
Basketball? We don't need no stinkin Basketball!!!
In Gus We Trust?
A little known fact with you youngsters I am sure. Coach Eaves not only was our head BB coach, he coached ends for Coach Jordan on the FB team. They did that in the day. They didn't have all that many asst. coaches, so some had to double. I think Coach Eaves was our best BB coach followed by Suitcase Sonny. I sure hated it when Jawjah got him to be their AD.
Diet Pepsi < Coke Zero...just sayin'
Another little known fact. Shug Jordan coached basketball at one point.
"Suitcase Sonny."
Hadn't heard that in a while.
I (heart) Sonny Smith.
Off to the gym boys and girls.
Let it be known this day that Phred hereby reaffirms his committment to the HABOTN and will post on a daily basis come hell or highwater. That is all.
Peter- I would probably have agreed if Coke Zero was around when I switched to diet beverages, but Diet Coke was the only real alternative, and it stinks.
Phred- Didn't Jordan ccach the JV basketball team?
yes ... you're right. It was his first job at AU I believe.
glad you're back Phreddie. it hasn't been the same.
Taylor, i placed the order this afternoon for all HABOTN caps. my hope is that my embroidery guy can have then done in the next 2 weeks so i can get them in the mail to everybody. we have been really busy in embroidery so this may be a bit optimistic. maybe i can bribe my guy. dunno. he's new. keep your fingers crossed.
oh, and that non-conference schedule is a doozy. must be a top 5 RPI strength for sure.
gag. wonder who we bribed at UVA & FSU? oh, wait, we've played them before. nevermind.
Shug and Joel Eaves are the only two coaches in AU hoops history to have career winning records in SEC player.
At some point in his time at AU, Coach Jordan also coached or helped coach the baseball team. I met a guy who played baseball under Coach Jordan. That reminds me of another story for Auburn Tiger Tales coming soon.
At one point Shug was the only coach to win 100 basketball games and 200 football games. I am not sure that is still true, but it likely is.
Don't worry
Be Chizzy
Adrian Peterson just made Houston silly.
so, did Jay G's blog just lose all of the good stories to Monica's blog?
Omni - no ballet, I was home and eating dinner by 6:30.
IV - you asked about the Koreans in and around Duluth in the last thread. I wasn't here then, but the way I've consistently heard it is that after the '96 Olympics, it was the Koreans more than any other foreign citizens who chose to stay. I'd venture an excellent guess that where Duluth is concerned, there are more Asians than any other group. The rest of the county is likely a south of the border majority.
Norm you were ever so handsome in your A Day pictures - or fan day or whatever they were.
Mon - thank you, nice of you to say here. That wasn't a temporary condition just for Fan Day. I'm still the best looking fellow around. No matter where I am, this is a true statement.
Norm,
I knew about the Latino invasion in Gwinett County; however, it does not seem to have expanded at all, maybe contracting somewhat. But I just was surprised to see the amount of influx with the Koreans. Did you make it to the game? Gaines was there and he says that he remembers you as well.
Lose good stories?
Ignore the trouble maker.
Yes, my wife and I were there. My daughter plays in PHS band so it was nice to only have to drive 15 minutes to spend some time with her. We took it to the house around the end of the 3rd.
Fair Warning, if any of you or your peeps are ever driving in front of me and are all over the road, I WILL dial up the police with your tag number and other pertinent information about your car. I'll also offer valuable insight such as; you are likely drunk, texting, or quite possibly the worst driver ever. Just ask the driver of a late model Maxima (grey) Michigan tag CAA 6020. I'm just sayin'. That little event was my excitement Saturday night.
Keep Hate Alive and keep your car between the lines.
Rahrin!
And what happened to the Maxima driver?
koreans in duluth, ga.? i suggest you contact dear leader. i recall being the oonly spanish speaker at prattville and being engouraged to interview an exchange student from guatamala--no, he didn't smoke pot.
I don't think men's basketball released that schedule, I think it just escaped.
No way would they let that schedule out on purpose.
I can only say that it wasn't long after my call that they were pulled over. That particular stretch of road is very well patrolled.
You saw them get pulled over?
also, we can all benefit from some latino inspired menudo on the game after game day. just sayin'.
Yes I did. Just about the time I turned off that road to head home.
Is the HABOTN anti immigrant?
Now YOU just wanna be startin' somethin'!
Todzilla for Heisman!!! Get on the bandwagon now!!!
don't start none, won't be none
Oh boy...here we go.
Not sure where you're getting anti-immigrant. I, for one, answered a question and told a story. I have no idea as to the race, ethnicity or country of origin of the driver of a certain Nissan Maxima. Drive like that in front of me and I don't care if you're purple, I'm punching in 911.
don't get yer knickers twisted, francis - if 98.5% doesn't apply to you then ignore it!
if MY 98.5%, that is
Mission accomplished then.
Man, I give you one compliment and you get all twitterpated.
On Thursday South Carolina plays North Carolina State and all will be right with the world. I will have football, I will look upon it, and it will be good.
On Friday I get to see Tulsa, a preview of the Auburn Offense, and this shall also be good.
On Saturday I get to see my beloved Auburn tigers and I will be in heaven.
I was asking a legitimate question.
Norm,
Interesting to find out your daughter is in PHS band. They are very good and have been for awhile. They have made all of us here in Prattville very proud of them.. Got an across the street neighbor in the band. IMHO, they out performed the PHS offense last Saturday night. BTW, if you ever get behind a Chevy PU truck with Auburn plate reading CLH IV and it is weaving, please don't call me in. I ain't drunk, just getting real old. My wife, 7 years my junior, won't drive at night anymore. I am still trying to and am being very careful. I will give it up when I don't feel comfortable driving at night or I feel like I am a threat to others. I don't drink anymore.
IV - noted. You get a pass.
Mon - what kind of car do you drive and what's your tag #?
Normie says let's build a wall,
But Monnie says open for all
Don't worry,
Be Chizzy
open for all who abide by the law.
Either send everyone else back to their country of origin, or let me drive whatever speed I want. I wanna go 90. Why do they get to break laws and I don't? :-(
I drive a Nissan Maxima.
Stop stereotyping Maxima drivers.
Dang Maxima drivers!!! Everyone should drive Intrepids.
I like Auburn offensive drives.
I drove a Maxima once. It belonged to a girl I knew. So, there's that.
i was passed on the interstate this weekend by a Maserati. He/She wasn't driving nearly as fast as they should have been in that car. I felt bad for the car.
THT, Was the Mazz Italian racing red?
THT, there are quite a few Maseratis in my neighborhood, as well as the area where we live. I've never seen one driven by anyone who could competently handle a car like that, much less drive it the way it should be driven. It's sickening...
Hey, I was passed by a Maserati this weekend too. They're not terribly uncommon around here. This one did happen to be doing a respectable speed for a Maserati. That same speed is not respectable in a Tahoe so I kept it at 75. He's just lucky he wasn't driving a $*@(@$&(#* Maxima, I'd have probably hit him.
it was a pathetic white, or perhaps a very light cream color. No pizzazz at all. Maybe the car was too depressed over its anemic skin tone to get up and go.
No Maseratis is my neighborhood. Sure, you might find a hubcap or something, perhaps even a stereo out of one, but that is about it. Just talk to the guy on the corner. He can point you in the right direction.
My Maserati does 185. I lost my license, so now I don't drive.
I was passed by a Volkswagon Bus full of hippies with the music so loud that it rattled my false teeth.
O wait a minute that was in 1963.
How time flies when you are having fun
My wife actually met Joe Walsh. She was on a passenger train and he was setting next to her. What a bizarre place to meet a celebrity.
I was only going the speed limit because I was boxed in when I got on the interstate. Traffic was real heavy all the way from the airport to Chapel Hill (not downtown ATL heavy) and I don't think the Maserati ever got above 75. I was behind it all the way to Chapel Hill.
Jet you're not sharp enough to put words in my mouth so give it up.
Don't worry
Be Chizzy
Norm,
Honda CRV
WAREAGLE
I owned an Italian car once upon a time but it wasn't in that league, A red 1959 Alfa Romeo. Lord I loved that car until it started to give me trouble and we lost the dealership in the Gump. I had owned a Triumph TR-3 before that. After the Alfa needed a valve job on a twin overhead engine and I couldn't find a competent mechanic to work on it, I started owning American cars. Now it is the other way around.
LMAO Digger
AND you were IN that hippie bus, not being passed by it!!
Will I be back tomorrow for the punchline of the joke?
THT, if you were in the I40 parking lot, it gets just as bad as ATL, if not worse. I use to work in the triangle. One day I went to lunch, a 10 minute drive away. After taking 30 minutes to eat, it took me 45 minutes to get back to work.
Mon - noted and filed away.
I have seen a Honda CRV with a Wareagle tag. Parked right out in front of a fancy eating place.
TR-3s are cool little cars.
Mon ...
Don't have to put in words in your mouth ... you're gonna tell us what you think anyway.
Don't worry,
Be Chizzy.
I'd like to have about a '74 TR-6.
I'd just like to have cloaking device so cops wouldn't see me driving 90... or 100.
THT you have confessed to breaking speed limit laws = you shall be deported
I missed waaaay too much today. Can somebody catch me up in 20 words or less?
I want a Ferrari. Yeah
I look forward to seeing my license plate again very soon, Digger. This time please don't stick me with the bar bill!!
I'm not interested in accuracy here, but I think it's about 4 days 22 hours til kickoff. Does that make Kickoff Kountdown Day 4 legit?
Can't help my self see a pretty woman with lots of money and I just lose my gentlemanship.
LOL, Mon! Send me to the autobahn!
You're good, Digger.
Go for it, THT
By the way, I think I'm training my bamer friend. I deleted his message and now he's reposted "i'm just going to be nice and say good luck".
A good looking woman with money driving a Ferrari and I will lose more than my gentlemanship.
Good for you Mon give him some rope and then yank it.
He'd just enjoy that, Digger.
Thanks, Kristina.
Ha'ina 'ia mai ana ka puana
What your wife?
Not to hijack this topic, but I wanted you all to know the outcome of my daughter's tests. Abbie tested positive for cystic fibrosis today. Needless to say my wife and I are devastated. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers that were done for our family in the past few days. Please continue to pray for us. With His help, we are going to take things one day at a time and give my beautiful daughter the best care we can.
Thanks again.

YES, YES, YES
FSJ - Abbie will indeed be in our prayers. That is a promise.
I am so sorry to hear that FSJ.
She will be in my thoughts and prayers for sure.
You just love that little girl FSJ. She'll always need that.
Will keep praying, faker.

Got to go, catch you folks tomorrow.
Prayers will be said for Abbie.
FSJ, I wish you and yours the best. I can't imagine what you are going through, but I do know that you have made the right first step by putting as much as you feel like you can in God's hands. As I said before, I wished that I could take her place in all of this. It just upsets me to see a child have to fight their way through life with this kind of thing trying to hold them back. God does still perform miracles each and every day. Don't give up. I will try to use my influence with our maker to send one of those miracles your way.
Love and family is stronger than anything a doctor can tell you, FSJ. ill s I will keep your daughter, and your family in my prayers. God will see you through it.
FSJ - I'm sure you've said before, but can you remind this senile barner... How old is Abbie?
FSJ ...
Please know that Abbie, as you and your wife, will be in our prayers. I pray that that the peace of God, which passes all understand, will comfort your hearts.
FSJ, you and your family will be in my prayers.
I'm so sorry, Faker. I can't imagine what y'all are feeling. You've got lots of prayers coming your way.
FSJ, I don't even know where to start, but know that we will be praying for the strength and perserverance that you and your family need to get through this trial. Football seems kind of trivial when you're dealing with a sick child.
FSJ - My families thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.
All, take a moment to take a gander and learn a bit.
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
After hearing of Faker's little Abbie having a challenge to deal with in her life, I think I will call it a night, go do some soul searching, pray for a sweet little girl and give God my thanks once again for all of the blessings he has given me. Goodnight all.
THT I think Abbie is about 3 years old. I think.
I've also just lost interest in things sports related and will copy IV's plan.
Do not underestimate the power of prayer and positive thinking. Keep your spirits high and appreciate each moment. Make every day worthwhile.
"Do not underestimate the power of prayer"
Amen, SteveFC, Amen.
Sorry to hear the news on your daughter, FSJ. Best wishes to your entire family.
FSJ, so sorry to hear about the diagnosis. Hope that you can get some comfort from all the prayers from your friends here at the HABOTN. God is good. Faith will provide you strength.
FSJ...
Genuine sympathy and heartfelt prayers to you and your family from me and mine.
FSJ,
You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry to hear this.
I'm very sorry to hear that FSJ...I'll share something with you...My brothers senior year he was diagnosed with stage 2 tumor in his jaw and sinus area...They had to remove the tumor and took a portion out of his mouth the size of a baseball...He is now recovered and has been clear for a year and a half...I share this to let you know I care deeply for your situation and my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family...best of luck, jhag
FSJ...Pray and seek to understand the Lord's Will in all things good and bad. We will pray for strength, wisdom and peace for your family.
My heart truly breaks for FSJ...stay strong!
FSJ, I hope something beautiful is born out of this for you. Monica, thanks for the cut-up link. I painted a friends trim on their house today, and all I could think was "no drips".
Just checking in. I had one of those nights saturday night where you wish to quit drinking and for several minutes swear it off for life. But that ended and I'm back. I'm going Joe Frazier day- just remember him blowing folks up at fullback for Stephen Davis in 94. Highly underrated. I like this countdown cause it does remind you of good times and good memories with some of the old players. A few we did not get to countdown b/c their jersey # was too high.
47 Marcellus Mostella (great name)
53 Anthony Harris
96 Jimmy Brumbaugh
83 Tyrone Goodson
82 Andy Fuller
56 Shannon Roubique
45 Jason Miska
51 Travis Williams
What is this strange game of basketball you mention?
Wait were almost at 4 days
Where is everyone?
FSJ-I wish to express my deepest sorrow for the diagnosis your daughter has received. You and your family will be in our prayers. Please keep us updated on any news. If not on this blog, contact one of us through FB.
Just the kind of mood I'm in tonight...
Humor me.
My daughter just saw HABOTN for the first time. She asked if chip chip's picture was real or pretend. She also liked Jet's current George Jetson avatar.
I'm here.
Let's get going jhag.
I say AU wins by 28 going away. For the first time in years AU will not ease off the gas while they are ahead. AU scores 40 points to open the season.
How does that sound?
I'm with you. I think the days of coasting in the second half are over. Malzahn's offense has to run full speed.
Here is the mood I am in tonight:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk18IgLa_1s
I can't do the fancy post like some of you.
Jet, how is your wife?
I say we get over 30 IDK about how much after that, but i HOPE SO!
Too many recruits watching the game not to do everything you can to run it up. Games will be tougher as the season progresses so you need to score as many points as you can to get their attention.
Jhag is on the avatar prowl at the moment
I will not be happy if we coast in the second half.
Uh...I am sure the coaches are taking that into account
FEAR THE ZOOKEEPER!
FSJ - I will continue praying for you and your daughter.
Yes, because I am so fearsome. (eye roll)
On a brighter note, I get to spend the morning in a helicopter tomorrow morning. Weeds and brush of Central Alabama, be afraid.
