Radio Appearance Forthcoming
Hey everyone. I'll soon be heading downtown for another round of The Roundtable on WMSP-AM 740 here in Montgomery.
Yes, the station streams on the interwebs.
I promise to discuss football issues.

Please run the other two off the show
Substance like whoa.
DO they still share receipes for their favorite BBQ sauce?
HABOTN RADIO LIVES!!!!
To quote Mr. Burns "Excellent"
I know drugstore cowgirl, so afraid of getting bored.
She's always running from something, so many things ignored.
I try to not be like this, but I thought it'd make a good song ...
I won't be there when the show begins ... am running a tad late.
Mr. Tate, please do me the favor of pimp slapping Josh into next week sometime.
Your pal,
J-Z
Bet you $5 Josh Moon gets you off on some weird subject, Jay G.
It would be joyless and unprofessional to not discuss football.
Just sayin'.
Speaking of J. Moon, we're going to take baby steps to a 6-6 season. The culminating with is going 0-4 down the stretch in SEC play.
The guy on with Jay G & Moon is terrible.
If you read the column, we really don't make any steps in Josh's mind... it's just that West Virginia goes backward.
What's truly terrible is Cumulus' 740 stream.
Josh Moon taking shots at Christians.
Must be a Roundtable without Doug again.
Get some new material, chump.
Thank you for talking sports on your sports radio show.
I enjoyed the schedule breakdowns.
Todd Dodge was supposed to be the stuff, but is pretty much just had the stuffing beat out of him at North Texas.
Sensi,
Kickoff can't get here soon enough.
Sensi, you recklessly misrepresented what Josh said about christians. Wow!
Jay,
You think you might get to talk again, or have you been taken over?
Reckless?
Hardly.
Maybe I'm just worn a bit thin with that bit.
Who cares? I'm just a poster on a blog.
Afternoon, all.
Why is JMoon called Bags?
I think there is supposed to be a full moon tonight. Will that affect JM's predictions?
I thought that had something to do with him bringing a large brown bag with his lunch in it.
Then again, I probably just recklessly misrepresented that too. ;-)
I think it had to do with the size of his laptop bag when he started working.
You intentionally misrepresented what he said. Period.
Aye, aye, aye.
It's always the same with him, Jay G. and I was simply commenting about how tired it was.
I should have posted, "Josh Moon appears to have a real problem with coaches who are Christians espousing such. Or, at least, it seems that way."
A thousand pardons.
crap. totally missed the first 50 minutes of HABOTN radio. bummer.
Yea Jay G! Give it to em! "Josh Moonin' it"! classic
Maybe the point is the coaches are trying to get these guys (football players) to care about their fellow human beings while training them for a rather violent sport. Religion is a good way to do that, in my opinion. Nothing wrong with being a "warrior" on the field of play, but learning how to respect your fellow "man" as well.
End of soapbox. Back to the job.
Wow, classy call.
I have been detected by the internet nazi at work...I might be on the lam for a few. Keep hate alive.
Ah, I love multiple bag explanations.
We knew Trooper Taylor from Univ of Tenn. as well. Get him straight Jay!
love me some Trooper Taylor.
NO DROPS!!!!!
I love Trooper Taylor also. Of course I love the movie Super Troopers too. Hmm.....
Bag brought a huge bag to work on his first day here. It was HUGE.
even UT fans still love them some Troop.
So Josh is a singular Bag instead of a plural Bags?
Inquiring people want to know did the bag contain his lunch or a laptop?
Moon doesn't listen well. He has certain preconceived notions and that is all he really knows. He tries to manuever the conversation into the same old tired topics so that he can spew the same old notions. He is so busy stammer-talking over others in an effort to be relevant, that he is unable to listen or to validly consider other's viewpoints.
JMHO.
It can be bag, bags, color me bagg, baggage, baggy style.
My daughter calls him mr. Bag.
Well, Hoopie, it sounds like I'm not missing anything.
It's better than the other guy who no matter what is said, his first response is a horrible attempt at a joke and he just talks over everyone else.
Gotcha on the Bag flexibility.
I do wish people would use good manners on talk shows. I think it would contribute to civility in general.
JGT is a serious upgrade to the show. Doug Amos is not there today, but he would normally be the only reason to listen.
Random stats on Steve Spurrier:
Spurrier's SEC loss total in 12 years at Florida: 14
Spurrier's SEC loss total in 4 years at South Carolina:17
If Spurrier loses 5 games this year, he'll tie his 12 year Florida total loss total of 27 in just 5 years.
I got to listen to for about 20 minutes ...
Granted, this is fresh coming from me but ... ultimately, winning press conferences is nice, but the bottom line is winning ball games.
So if Chiz is as boring as an English history on William The Conquerer, I don't care.
Kelvin is smarter than what he was saying today -- at least, I've operated under that opinion. He's been off his game today. To wit, I think he's wrong about Dan Mullen (sorry Urban doesn't do everything by himself) and about passionate fans level of knowledge of the staff.
Today's show: two of them are professional journalists who cover college football (even if one of them occasionally has goofy opinions), the other guy just listens to talk radio and reads blogs and is charming enough to get into the studio and gain access to a mic. He doesn't seem to be aware of his subject as are the listeners. C'mon, Kelvin, I got more faith in you than that.
Jet- Well said. I tried and failed miserably to say that earlier.
How bout Mr. Dime Bag?
Does Kelvin always take the opposite side of whatever argument is being made just so he can talk?
He argues both sides of every issue.
so JG, why are you there today? haven't heard your voice in about 40 minutes or so. :)
RK- I think he could argue with himself if they would let him.
Just me, but I think William the Conqueror is much more interesting than anybody's press conference, coach or otherwise.
Ark started 10-1 with Gus as the OC.
Nutt relieved him of his OC job and they finished 10-4
RK- Good point, he also started a True Freshman until Nutt made the call to pull him. Hmm...Rollison may get his shot after all.
The 1 loss with Gus as the OC was the season opening slaughter by Southern Cal...then they rolled off 10 in a row including the 27-10 destruction of us when we were # 2.
I think Rollison Definately gets a look at starting. But Todd will probalbly end up with the starting position.
Agreed Paulmain. I just think Rollison will play and get significant snaps thru out the year.
It doesn't matter. Pat Dye will have Chiz fired when he doesn't fire Gus after we don't convert a 3rd down play in the first quarter of the La. Tech game.
If Pat will just adopt a retired Grandfatherly personna and stay out of all else....
PF show just announced that someone claimed PF is the most powerful sports personality in the SEC. I'll defer power to Tony Barnhart. PF and his hicks are only relevant in the state of Alabama and that is a small, neurotic market.
Hoop ...
I lost 20-30 minutes of my life trying to hear Jay G (I think he got 15 words in). I ain't gonna listen to F-Bomb.
nice Walter Gilbert pic Hoopie. that's from the infamous Bicardi Bowl.
oh well - they can't all be gem's
at least practice starts this week
This comment has been removed by the author.
I think F bomb's hicks are hilarious!
PF was on CSS (Comcast Sports South)"Talkin' Football. There were 4 knowledgeble guys and this little whiny dude spouting soundbytes for effect. It was all those guys could do to keep from eye-rolling at the hick mentality. I'm sure that PF still doesn't realize he was the joke.
Just wait until Vir. Tech wins their first game. PF's hicks will be kicking and screaming!!!
Scotty....I scarfed the pic from THT's linky. THT....I know you're in prison......here's thanks when you get out.
Jet...I got caught with the radio link up when PF opened up. I heard the nonsense before closing the link.
Look, I'll take PF nonsense anyday over ATL drivel that they call sports talk.
JGT is really doing Bags a favor going on the show. His talent is wasted amongst those clowns.
Eddie.....PF just quoted somebody claiming that he is the most powerful sports personality in the SEC.....that's rediculous. The Atl sports radio guys aren't SEC-centric anyway, so they don't count. PF is only powerful among Alabama hicks.
Across the entirety of the SEC....the EDSBS comedy blog has more power than PF. Pat Dooley in Orlando has much more creds and Tony Barnhart has the most. There are more, but that is a start.
Ah, the cult of personality. As if personality meant power.
Personality can be powerful over the weak. PF has definitely found a niche.
If personality equaled power, well I'd be...about where I am now.
Will Malzhan's Offense Click Right Away? - OA News
Interesting read.
OK, you Casanovas out there ... you've been warned.

Q&A with Jay Boulware:
Link
J-Z, don't sell yourself short. You're a tremendous slouch.
Sensi ...
You are not shunned here.
From Jet's link, I read this:
"The women are free on $200 cash bails." as BALLS. That made it funny to me.
Personally, I thought the part about the "glue stick" was funny.
Not a lot of fun in there today.
I like Kelvin, but I cannot do radio with him. I can't talk with him in the room.
Sensi The Shunned ... silly.
Think about that. RoF member pretending to be shunned.
Sense of Humor
"the trait of appreciating (and being able to express) the humorous; "she didn't appreciate my humor"; "you can't survive in the army without a sense of humor"
Just trying to lighten it up, man. There's wars, famine, and dogs and cats living together. Meanwhile, all I really have to worry about it where I'm going walking tonight now that I don't have to commute from the Gump.
I think next I'll be Sensi the Chef since I like to cook.
Anyone for ribs?
Was there talk of an unofficial HABOTN tailgate while I moved last week?
Put me down as grill man as long as someone brings the grill. I no longer have one.
Sensi,
You gumpless twit, cook me a burger! Now!
JG, it wasn't a lot of fun to listen to either. i mean, i don't have anything against the guy but it was him and Moon just goofing off. it was a waste of your time. i missed the part where you talked....if you really did.
put me in sensi.
How you want it?
What sides and toppings?
Hey Sensi,
You are finally in town? Can I come check out your digs?
Not in the permanent place yet, WDCWE. But when I do, I'll let you know.
hey, it's puppet hour. whoopty dee.

Hello!
Hey tht was it you the office natzi got
This comment has been removed by the author.
Jay G,
I tried to listen to you while I worked today, but it was all Kelvin...all the time.
I don't blame you if you don't go back on there when he's there.
Paulmain,
If you think it's only two more days of nonsense, then you are going to either be greatly disappointed or greatly surprised depending on your outlook.
Well, football related nonsence is much more interesting to me.
office natzi?
Congrats, THT.
Let the freedom rain.. reign ... jimmy rane... or whatever they are calling it now.
Once again... non-football related nonsense will most likely be in full effect in the foreseeable future. Though the symptoms may subside slightly, there is no cure for HABOTN nonsense.

paulmain,
If you post four straight times I'm going to need medical attention.
crap, now I'll have to spend the rest of the evening trying to break Michael & paulmain's code
let's do the math...
one half per post x 4 posts = complete set! Now I understand your predicament, Jet
Jet - Don't forget the sour cream.
actually, that was pretty simple code to break. Michael & paulmain were talking about how Dyer, Seastrunk, Owens, Reed, and Robinson were all definitely going to sign with Auburn. Hot dog!
32 Days
6 hours
54 minutes
Until Kickoff.
Tomorrow should be interesting to see who is a go and who is a whoa. First whoa may be Justin Alberts, who I understand has been dismissed from the team.
Can you be dismissed if you aren't on scholarship?
I'd classify that as being runned oft.
Also, I suspect tomorrow will bring at least 20 items of note more significant than Justin Albert's status.
He's a 5-foot-7 walk-on, peeps.
with heart, Jay G. WITH HEART!
So from the LaDarius Owens comments in the auburnsports.com piece, it seems Trovon's family did make the visit with him to Auburn Saturday. LO also says he, Trovon and Lache are "real cool" with each other. I think we can translate that to mean they will all be signing with Auburn. (that's for you Hoopie)
I enjoyed watching Zac Etheridge last year and I'm happy to read that he's taking on a leadership position with this team. He's back 100% and in at strong safety. PLEASE STAY HEALTHY, ZAC!
howdy folks. sounds like that gump radio show was a real drag. Moon usually sounds like a 10 yr old given the depth of his conversations.
albert was dismissed. seems he was hanging with some lowlife peeps, was warned several times but did not heed advice. heard he was sick about it and trying to return.
Jay, any conditions of return for any of those kicked off, or is it a done deal forever.
I'm tight as a tick. MissTHT cooked up enchiladas, black beans, and Mexican rice that were oohhhhh so good.
wassup tar. i had mexican for lunch. one positive of illegal immigration, its hard to find a bad mexican establishment in b'ham
got my inside au tiger mag today. we really have a lot of areas where we need depth. more than what is readily apparent..
Hi sponge. I was hoping to find great Auburn news when I got home from busting rocks and making license plates today. Seems like another day without fireworks. But I am encouraged by the news Omnica reported re: Reed, Owens, et al.
depth is overrated.
I'm referring to football teams and not radio talk shows.
Depth is overrated ... until you get some injuries.
I had hoped that the rumors about Justin Albert weren't true, but it appears they are. That sucks. He's a good kid who it sounds like made a few stupid choices.
I hate Bama.
Hate UAT. It's what's for dinner.
Mon...thanks for translatin' that message into '70's vernacular. With your continued help, I may be able to keep up.
THT...count on it..that's two 4 stars and one 5 star that are real cool.
Phred...yeah, any sports talkshow worrth it's salt, has solid backup sports commentators.
10 Questions with Jay Boulware
I'm quite certain there is no topic about which I could talk for 12 hours. But special teams?!? wow.
HA! Hoopie!! I was translating it to put a positive spin on it for you. NOT because I thought it was some uber cool, hip guy speak you wouldn't understand! I'm essentially your age for Pete's sake and I wouldn't be that mean to you.
Okay, who is shunning Sensi? That is against the rules. Sensi is a long time member and one of the first people I sucked up too, I mean got to know on here. No, we ain't taking any warm showers together, but I do value him.
Sensi is not shunned, but he is a chef. But not much of one ... I ordered a burger hours ago, and I'm still waiting.
So I guess he will be shunned if I don't get my burger soon.
Let there be piece and peace.
Oooh Child 1970
Did you order delivery or pickup?
whassup orange and blue friends?
Can't wait for practice to get started at both schools. I'll be interested to see how tight the info will be flowing from Auburn...Jay's gonna have his work cut out for him this year I bet.
Thanks Omnica. That video rocked.
I'm jokin' 'bout Brother Sensi, y'all. He's another loved child in the Kingdom.
Think of the words of Sister Mahalia Jackson ...
There will be peace in the valley for me some day.
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord, I pray.
There'll be no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see.
There will be peace in the valley for me!
War Eagle! Love to the Hotties! Hate UAT!
fsj. I bet you are right. chiz will pull a sabear, albeit without the arrogance. thats really ok with me if you can get away with it. just win baby. however, if you don't win right away, making a lot of friends may get you an extra year.
Jay, if you are here. does chiz restrict access to his coaches. you may have answered this before, but I didn't see it.
Interview with coach Taylor on Rivals is pretty good. One nugget would be as I mentioned earlier in the summer that PPL had some of the field issues (same as J Albert) and if he doesn't do as Taylor says, he will not see the field.
He also said he will tell the DB's the route the receiver is running and to go up there and pop him in the mouth when the ball comes his way.
And the lion shall lay down with the lamb.
(continuing Jet's post)
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Steve. :-)
Tomorrow, we gather 'em all at the harvest home.
Let's play some football, brethren.
I say tomorrow should be Sensi appreciation day. Everyone suck up to Sensi:)
Steve,
Tomorrow is the Great Homecoming Day when all players -- at least the eligible ones -- report to serve.
We'll have to appreciate Sensi some other time ... maybe tomorrow night during the AFI Podcast.
wtc. if you see frenchy (ppl) up close, he is really small. maybe the smallest guy i've seen in SEC football. if he doesn't regain all his quickness and then some, I don't know if he sees the field anyway. just sayin
The Meineke Car Care Bowl is on ESPNU ... West Virginia vs. North Carolina ... one simple question ... why can't Kodi Burns play more like Pat White?
i would take kodi playing more like brandon cox at this point...
I'd take Kodi playing like Joe Cox ... or Jim Bob Cooter.
I'd like him to play like Paul Crewe (the original).
The Davey O'Brien Award has at least three QBs on its Watch List that weren't starters last year, and also has Jimmy Clausen.
And yet no Kodi, Caudle or Todd. Or Rollison. Clearly an anti Auburn bias.
It's not very well known but a fact nonetheless that Davey O'Brien hated AU. It's a rather sordid tale. Sad really.
Well, maybe Kodi (or Caudle or Todd or Rollison) will win the lesser known award for collegiate quarterbacks ... the Syvelle Newton Award ... presented by the Lou Holzth Athletic Club of Steubenville, Ohio.
Occasionally you see a player coming out of highschool that just hasn't grown up. Yea, they go off to college thinking how great they are going to be, but then they have a few unfortunate accidents happen to them like using a dead girl's credit card or accidentally punching a guy at McDonald's in the face. Just today I read an article on another one of these unfortunate souls.
That kid has serious problems and it's in my humble opinion, it's not very attractive for the person writing about it to enjoy it quite so much. I don't know if that's just a low life blog poster person like me or someone who claims to be a...well something legitimate.
Up from the grave it arose!
What's the new photo, Jet?
Kids need to learn they are responsible for their actions. That kid is going through a learning experience.
Just spent flippin' 2 hours trying to find a good deal on text books for the daughter. $500 smacks later I have 9 books for the 1st semester. That seems awful high and that was with shopping at every site I could find. Got 6 from Amazon and three from the bookstore.
Preface: this probably won't be the last epic, but hopefully we'll keep it a lot simpler most of the time.
T-minus 32 days til kickoff!
HAPPY JIMMIE HITCHCOCK DAY!!!
The “Phantom of Union Springs” was Auburn’s very first ALL-AMERICAN in football and Auburn’s very first ALL-AMERICAN in baseball! Did he wear jersey #32. Uh, nope. He wore #18 as a junior and #20 as a senior. Since he was ALL-AMERICAN on Auburn’s 1932 undefeated football team, I thought #32 was a great time to honor him. Besides, #20 is already too crowded, and Mr. Hitchcock is far too important in Auburn football history to take 2nd place on day 18 (sorry for the tease!).
Jimmie Hitchcock played tailback, quarterback, and punter. He reportedly was listed in Ripley’s “Believe it or Not” for punting 232 times and not having a single punt blocked. He led the Southern Conference in scoring as a senior and also led Auburn to the Southern Conference championship. Those efforts earned him a spot on the Walter Camp All-American Team. Duke coach Wallace Wade called Hitchcock “the finest all-around back ever to play against any of my teams.” After graduating, he had a brief major league baseball career during which he married the daughter of a former Yankee pitcher and manager. Jimmie served in the Navy during World War II. Best as I can tell, he and his wife, Dorothy, lived their post-war years in Auburn and/or Montgomery. He was a member of the AU Board of Trustees when his former teammate, Shug Jordan, was hired to be Auburn’s head football coach. Jimmie Hitchcock was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954. According to the Montgomery YMCA, Hitchcock’s interest in and devotion to youth athletics (perhaps his two sons were a catalyst), led to the introduction of Little League Baseball in Montgomery. Since his death in 1959, deserving high school students in the Gump have been honored with the Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award. You can read about it here
Portrait of Jimmie Hitchcock from the 1933 Glom
BTW, “Lefty” Jordan (better known as “Shug”) was Jimmie Hitchcock’s teammate. Interesting blurb about him from the 1931 Glom here
Honorable mention to Carl Stewart, Stacy Danley, William Andrews, and the One-Year Wonder (Rudi Johnson).
WARRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!

if the URL for "Lefty" Jordan takes you to the Glom title page, type 113 into the page number box and click on "go to page".
Good to see Union Springs get some publicity on this blog. I might be wrong, but I think I the only (albeit occasional) poster from the Springs. The Jimmy Hitchcock award is a high honor.
Happy Jimmy Hitchcock, Player Report, and Sensi Appreciation day.
Man, I can't wait until the first game. Afterwards we must have a debate of which offense is better, this years or last years. Then again, maybe not.
I just wanna see Onterio line up in the wildcat formation on the first drive babeeeeeey
I am looking forward to McCalebb and PPL touching the ball. They both have track star speed. I look to see them get to them in motion and possibly part of a triple option. McCalebb may end up just being the second string tailback, but I have to think they will try to get him on the field in other ways, possibly as a slot reciever.
In an Undercover article PMarcsh makes a good point. He mentions that although Dye had a losing season his first season, even then it was clear that things had changed on the plains. I saw the same thing when Croom went to MSU. You could see that the players were excited and that the team looked prepared.
That is what I am hoping to see from this year's tigers. Yes, I like to see wins, but more importantly, you get a sense of if a team is ready to play. We beat UT last season. Did anyone feel good about that? Heck, we could have narrowly won many more games last season and I would have still felt bad about the season. The team just looked disorganized.
The other good example is the Vandy game. I don't think it would have mattered much if we had won. Yea, we would have been bowl elligible, but we still played one suctacular game.
I hope the fans will be patient with ChizCo. Yea, I will bash them if the team doesn't looked prepared, but if we lose with a team that is prepared and playing their hearts out, well, I am with them the whole way, win or lose.
Good morning, Hotties. Once again, TarHeel, thanks for your work on Jimmie Hitchcock.
No offense Steve, but Croom isn't the best example to compare something good to. I know it was at Miss State, but if Chizik turns out to be a Croom, then you were right long ago about how long this rebuilding will take.
Happy Adlai Trone day everyone!
Wow, media guide prices this year took a jump up to $18.
They keep cutting stuff out of them, but the price keeps going up.
I will not be buying a media guide this year sense the price is that high. That blows.
As far as Sensi appreciation day...blah blah blah. What's he ever done? :)
Doc, thanks for the lesson.
Whenever Sensi gets here, OT question, what are the chances the Titans get close to their record from last year?
I'm looking forward to some SUBSTANCE today.
Auburn media guide is available on line. Not as fun as holding it in your hands, but as long as your already paying for the WWW...
Media Guide
I obviously need to get my DC out of the freezer for 2 reasons:
1. So it won't explode
2. To treat homonymitis.
Morning Hotties - a fine Tuesday to you all. About to cut the grass over here, then get to work for the man.
Keep Hate Alive.
Ted Roof will be a guest on Sportsline with John and Barry this morning.
Link 1
and if that doesn't work
Link 2
Takers on how long it takes Longshore to ask the Auburn DC a question related to Alabama? I got 3 minutes.
I hate working for the man, but I do like getting paid. A quandry I just can't overcome, at least not yet...
5 minutes is my guess.
Hats to Bill the producer who consistently drops "Money" from the Pink Floyd in the morning show.
Ted Roof is on right now on 740am, Montgomery.
If you miss the Roof interview, email me and I'll send you the audio.
*Note: I own nothing and simply provide this for entertainment purposes only. Thanks to John and Barry for not minding.
What time are they on?
Ooops, sorry.
Dang, Roof brought up Alabama first.
I lose the bet.
Sensi, did you miss my question from earlier?
cincy - that was impeccable timing. Asking at 7:40 a.m. what time they would be on 740 AM!
I don't think I could listen to these guys everyday.
What did Ted Roof Rusted have to say this morning?
Sean posted: Whenever Sensi gets here, OT question, what are the chances the Titans get close to their record from last year?
Sean, it's hard to have that kind of run two years in a row. However, some factors are working in the Titans favor. Say what you will, but Indy won't be the same without Dungy. At least, not this year. Houston is a wild card - they should be good but they just haven't put it all together yet. That leaves Tennessee and Jacksonville and as much as I respect Jack Del Rio, I'll give an edge to Fisher & Co. I don't think the Titans can win 13 games again, but they could win 11 or 12 for sure.
The Opening Drive in B'ham bugs a lot of people, but I am used to them I guess.
They improved the offense and Fisher has proven time and again that he doesn't need huge stars on defense, just workers.
Miss the Ted Roof interview?
Download it here
And now it's time
To flip this burger stand
