Radio Appearance Forthcoming

Hey everyone. I'll soon be heading downtown for another round of The Roundtable on WMSP-AM 740 here in Montgomery.

Yes, the station streams on the interwebs.

I promise to discuss football issues.

Speaking of J. Moon, we're going to take baby steps to a 6-6 season. The culminating with is going 0-4 down the stretch in SEC play.

I thought that had something to do with him bringing a large brown bag with his lunch in it.

Then again, I probably just recklessly misrepresented that too. ;-)

I think it had to do with the size of his laptop bag when he started working.

12:47 PM

Aye, aye, aye.

It's always the same with him, Jay G. and I was simply commenting about how tired it was.

I should have posted, "Josh Moon appears to have a real problem with coaches who are Christians espousing such. Or, at least, it seems that way."

A thousand pardons.

Maybe the point is the coaches are trying to get these guys (football players) to care about their fellow human beings while training them for a rather violent sport. Religion is a good way to do that, in my opinion. Nothing wrong with being a "warrior" on the field of play, but learning how to respect your fellow "man" as well.

End of soapbox. Back to the job.

Inquiring people want to know did the bag contain his lunch or a laptop?

1:04 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Moon doesn't listen well. He has certain preconceived notions and that is all he really knows. He tries to manuever the conversation into the same old tired topics so that he can spew the same old notions. He is so busy stammer-talking over others in an effort to be relevant, that he is unable to listen or to validly consider other's viewpoints.

JMHO.

Random stats on Steve Spurrier:

If Spurrier loses 5 games this year, he'll tie his 12 year Florida total loss total of 27 in just 5 years.

I got to listen to for about 20 minutes ...

Granted, this is fresh coming from me but ... ultimately, winning press conferences is nice, but the bottom line is winning ball games.
So if Chiz is as boring as an English history on William The Conquerer, I don't care.

Kelvin is smarter than what he was saying today -- at least, I've operated under that opinion. He's been off his game today. To wit, I think he's wrong about Dan Mullen (sorry Urban doesn't do everything by himself) and about passionate fans level of knowledge of the staff.

Today's show: two of them are professional journalists who cover college football (even if one of them occasionally has goofy opinions), the other guy just listens to talk radio and reads blogs and is charming enough to get into the studio and gain access to a mic. He doesn't seem to be aware of his subject as are the listeners. C'mon, Kelvin, I got more faith in you than that.

1:22 PM

Nutt relieved him of his OC job and they finished 10-4

RK- Good point, he also started a True Freshman until Nutt made the call to pull him. Hmm...Rollison may get his shot after all.

1:51 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

The 1 loss with Gus as the OC was the season opening slaughter by Southern Cal...then they rolled off 10 in a row including the 27-10 destruction of us when we were # 2.

I think Rollison Definately gets a look at starting. But Todd will probalbly end up with the starting position.

2:29 PM

Eddie.....PF just quoted somebody claiming that he is the most powerful sports personality in the SEC.....that's rediculous. The Atl sports radio guys aren't SEC-centric anyway, so they don't count. PF is only powerful among Alabama hicks.

Across the entirety of the SEC....the EDSBS comedy blog has more power than PF. Pat Dooley in Orlando has much more creds and Tony Barnhart has the most. There are more, but that is a start.

Ah, the cult of personality. As if personality meant power.

Just spent flippin' 2 hours trying to find a good deal on text books for the daughter. $500 smacks later I have 9 books for the 1st semester. That seems awful high and that was with shopping at every site I could find. Got 6 from Amazon and three from the bookstore.

Preface: this probably won't be the last epic, but hopefully we'll keep it a lot simpler most of the time.

T-minus 32 days til kickoff!

HAPPY JIMMIE HITCHCOCK DAY!!!

The “Phantom of Union Springs” was Auburn’s very first ALL-AMERICAN in football and Auburn’s very first ALL-AMERICAN in baseball! Did he wear jersey #32. Uh, nope. He wore #18 as a junior and #20 as a senior. Since he was ALL-AMERICAN on Auburn’s 1932 undefeated football team, I thought #32 was a great time to honor him. Besides, #20 is already too crowded, and Mr. Hitchcock is far too important in Auburn football history to take 2nd place on day 18 (sorry for the tease!).

Jimmie Hitchcock played tailback, quarterback, and punter. He reportedly was listed in Ripley’s “Believe it or Not” for punting 232 times and not having a single punt blocked. He led the Southern Conference in scoring as a senior and also led Auburn to the Southern Conference championship. Those efforts earned him a spot on the Walter Camp All-American Team. Duke coach Wallace Wade called Hitchcock “the finest all-around back ever to play against any of my teams.” After graduating, he had a brief major league baseball career during which he married the daughter of a former Yankee pitcher and manager. Jimmie served in the Navy during World War II. Best as I can tell, he and his wife, Dorothy, lived their post-war years in Auburn and/or Montgomery. He was a member of the AU Board of Trustees when his former teammate, Shug Jordan, was hired to be Auburn’s head football coach. Jimmie Hitchcock was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954. According to the Montgomery YMCA, Hitchcock’s interest in and devotion to youth athletics (perhaps his two sons were a catalyst), led to the introduction of Little League Baseball in Montgomery. Since his death in 1959, deserving high school students in the Gump have been honored with the Jimmy Hitchcock Memorial Award. You can read about it here

BTW, “Lefty” Jordan (better known as “Shug”) was Jimmie Hitchcock’s teammate. Interesting blurb about him from the 1931 Glom here

Honorable mention to Carl Stewart, Stacy Danley, William Andrews, and the One-Year Wonder (Rudi Johnson).

Good to see Union Springs get some publicity on this blog. I might be wrong, but I think I the only (albeit occasional) poster from the Springs. The Jimmy Hitchcock award is a high honor.

Happy Jimmy Hitchcock, Player Report, and Sensi Appreciation day.

Man, I can't wait until the first game. Afterwards we must have a debate of which offense is better, this years or last years. Then again, maybe not.

I am looking forward to McCalebb and PPL touching the ball. They both have track star speed. I look to see them get to them in motion and possibly part of a triple option. McCalebb may end up just being the second string tailback, but I have to think they will try to get him on the field in other ways, possibly as a slot reciever.

In an Undercover article PMarcsh makes a good point. He mentions that although Dye had a losing season his first season, even then it was clear that things had changed on the plains. I saw the same thing when Croom went to MSU. You could see that the players were excited and that the team looked prepared.

That is what I am hoping to see from this year's tigers. Yes, I like to see wins, but more importantly, you get a sense of if a team is ready to play. We beat UT last season. Did anyone feel good about that? Heck, we could have narrowly won many more games last season and I would have still felt bad about the season. The team just looked disorganized.

The other good example is the Vandy game. I don't think it would have mattered much if we had won. Yea, we would have been bowl elligible, but we still played one suctacular game.

I hope the fans will be patient with ChizCo. Yea, I will bash them if the team doesn't looked prepared, but if we lose with a team that is prepared and playing their hearts out, well, I am with them the whole way, win or lose.

No offense Steve, but Croom isn't the best example to compare something good to. I know it was at Miss State, but if Chizik turns out to be a Croom, then you were right long ago about how long this rebuilding will take.

Wow, media guide prices this year took a jump up to $18.

They keep cutting stuff out of them, but the price keeps going up.

I will not be buying a media guide this year sense the price is that high. That blows.

As far as Sensi appreciation day...blah blah blah. What's he ever done? :)

Doc, thanks for the lesson.

Whenever Sensi gets here, OT question, what are the chances the Titans get close to their record from last year?

I'm looking forward to some SUBSTANCE today.

Sean posted: Whenever Sensi gets here, OT question, what are the chances the Titans get close to their record from last year?

Sean, it's hard to have that kind of run two years in a row. However, some factors are working in the Titans favor. Say what you will, but Indy won't be the same without Dungy. At least, not this year. Houston is a wild card - they should be good but they just haven't put it all together yet. That leaves Tennessee and Jacksonville and as much as I respect Jack Del Rio, I'll give an edge to Fisher & Co. I don't think the Titans can win 13 games again, but they could win 11 or 12 for sure.
