Today's schedule

Hey everyone. Today begins the slow trek toward The Season Opener because it's Reporting Day.

(Pictured is the cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon album. It includes my theme song for today: "Time.")

Veterans will be made available around 4 p.m. for chats about tackle football and other things. I'll provide a video and plenty of blog notes afterward. I expect the written word to appear here around 6.

Video around 8:30.

I gotta write for the newspaper, too, so I put video last on my list.

Stop by and check us out.

Scottie,

I was in Knoxville for that game vs Ohio State as well. Some jackleg behind me kept yelling "Artis Gilmore" every time Porter touched the ball, and "Mama-don't" every time Mamadou touched the ball.

When the Braves loaded the bases up in the 1st with no outs against a pitcher fresh out of AA ball and only got one run and Prado tried to tag up on a pop up to the 2nd basemen and got thrown out at home, I turned it off.

You people laugh at Tony Franklin, but one day you will miss him. The one real problem with the Franklin Experience wasn't Franklin at all, but rather Paul Rhoads. i'm lost JG, why are you issuing refunds, and is there a cap on how many SASE's you can send?

10:09 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Kodi will not change positions. If he doesn't win the starting job, he will transfer out, maybe even before the season if he turns out to be 3rd team. That would be my guess.

10:11 AM
Blogger Norm said...

I'm somewhat tempted to send a SASE just out of curiousity to see what came back to me in the mail.

10:11 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Kodi is fast, but not WR fast.

He is one of the more off balanced runners with the ball I've seen.

I agree, he'd transfer before playing another position.

10:12 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Eddie, I can see Kodi transferring, but I don't want to see it happen. He does have talent.

10:13 AM
Blogger michael said...

Agree on Kodi, rk.

Would he really transfer? I would think if there is one thing he has learned since being at Auburn, not having the starting job in early August doesn't mean you won't be starting in October.

Besides, is there a QB position in D1 easier to win than Auburn's? If he transfers, he would need to go a division down (lest he get Mustained), and I am not sure if he is all about that.

10:16 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I just read where Georgia had 104 players report of preseason camp. I wonder what our number will look like?

10:18 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Well, one thing is pretty much certain. Either Caudle, Todd, or Kodi are going to learn their chances of playing QB at Auburn have dropped to zero very soon.

10:20 AM
Blogger michael said...

I disagree, Steve. If we have another season like last year, all three very well might get a start by the end of the season.

10:22 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I'll refund the exact amount you paid.

10:23 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

By the way, Kodi supposedly runs a 4.5/40, which is faster than some of our wide receivers.

10:24 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I don't think Burns has the speed to play other offensive skill positions.

I'm with the others: If Burns ends up as the No. 3 option -- or possibly the No. 2 option -- I will expect to hear about a transfer.

That's just my gut feeling. Burns has the talent to play quarterback somewhere. Maybe it's Auburn. Maybe it's not.

10:25 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

michael, if we have a season like last season, jump on the Tyrik bandwagon quick.

10:25 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I'd pay $50 cash money to see Kodi Burns run a 4.5 40.

10:25 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Michael- If Kodi wants to play in D-1, he will transfer out before the season if he feels that he won't play this year, or at least won't play much if at all, that way he could use this year as a redshirt year with 2 more years to play. I think it would mean he would have to be burried on the depth chart. If he stayed and played sparingly and then decided to transfer, he would go to the Championship Division IMO.

10:26 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Burns could play tailback, except we have tailbacks coming out or rear. He probably doesn't have the blocking ability to play h-back.

10:26 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I'll be home tomorrow. I can't wait.

10:27 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I had considered the possibility of Burns redshirting, but I wouldn't consider it likely. He should have been redshirted his freshman season. He basically wasted that year.

10:28 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I was assuming Jay was giving refunds from the save the Franklin fund.

10:28 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Burns is only a QB, nothing more, nothing less. He is not a RB. He could not take the pounding and he doesn't have the speed needed. He is fast in QB terms, but in a Donovan McNabb type of way.

10:29 AM
Blogger michael said...

Steve, no way Kodi could play RB in the SEC. Not in the WAC either.

like rk said, unbalanced runner, can't run through tackles, can't outrun anyone. Fast enough and strong enough to effectively run as a QB.

10:29 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Burns will not redshirt at Auburn. I would put cash money on that.

10:29 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

4.5/40 isn't slow, but it isn't McCalebb or PPL speed either.

10:30 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I don't think he can run a 4.5/40.

10:31 AM
Blogger paulmain said...

will fans be able to see the beginings of practice?

10:31 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I am with you, Eddie. Redshirting would mean having Caudle, Tyrik, Trotter, and Moseley to compete with. It wouldn't seem to be a wise move.

10:32 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

That was his listed speed, if I am not mistaken.

10:32 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Needless to say, out of Todd, Caudle, and Burns; whoever is lowest in the depth chart is pretty much done as a QB at Auburn.

10:34 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I understand Steve, but from all i've heard, he is quick, but not quite that quick. I think even Jay G was putting money on him not running it earlier in this thread.

I'll bet my life that Todd is done as QB at Auburn after this season.

10:35 AM

10:41 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I am thinking Kodi gets told he will be a situational player. How he reacts to that, I don't know.

10:42 AM
Blogger michael said...

I don't doubt Kodi ran a 4.5 40 at a combine or something like that. That is not outrageously fast or anything.

What he can't do is run through an arm tackle or juke defenders. We have video evidence of this. And when the d ends and linebackers are also running 4.5s, then you better have something else to bring to the table in the SEC to warrant having the ball in your hands.

10:46 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Scottie, but my luck would have Todd tearing his knee up in the first week and out for the year, applying for the 5th year and getting it. All that would happen if I bet on it.

10:48 AM
Blogger Harrison said...

You have to start with Kodi's fundamentals. I'm no QB expert, but i can see his footwork and things are way off

Steve- If Kodi is a situational QB, then he will get killed when he is in the game.

10:50 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Kodi would have done himself a favor to have found one of those summer camps that tutor QBs. I think the Irons kids father had some kind of camp.

It is possible that someone coached Kodi up in the summer, but I doubt it. I have never read anything about it and I don't think it is something he could do on his own or with the help of teammates. Once you have gotten use to doing things the wrong way, it is incredibly difficult to change.

10:51 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Eddie, that is basically what Kodi was for the 2007 season.

10:52 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Eddie - didn't Todd burn his redshirt yr at TxTech?

10:56 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I don't believe Todd has a redshirt left. Caudle doesn't either. That is why Kodi would be the one to consider.

But I am confused. When did the Kodi love fest officially end. Ever since last season I having been saying Todzilla would be the starter and I thought others were saying Kodi would be the man.

And I am sure there are those of you out there that have already named kids after Kodi, so what gives?

But now is the time for me to announce who really will win the starting job, Brent Poole. Yes, Malzahn if a fit of rage will tell the three stooges to sit and let Poole be the driver.

I disagree on changing fundamentals. Even longstanding bad ones can be changed, but it takes a lot of commitment.

I played a lot of baseball and then started playing golf without lessons. 4 years later, I finally took golf lessons, truly committed to a golf swing and dropped my handicap by 15 down to single digits. Later on, video lessons helped even more. Kodi has a lot of video available and it hasn't helped so far. If he has recommitted to coorecting fundamentals and film study this summer, then his athleticism can shine, if not...

On that album he covers "You can't find too many kissers", a song written by Hank Jr. Everyone knows that Hank's video "All My Rowdy Friends" prominently featured Willie Nelson. Nelson appeared in the Simpsons on their VH1 Behind the Music spoof. This episode also happened to feature Sideshow Bob, whose voice is of course Kelsey Grammer. Kelsey Grammer is from Ft. Lauderdale the same as Junior Rosegreen.

Your association was perfectly logical.

Why would Urban leave Fla. What other school has a ready made recruiting pipeline that the U of F has. Notre Dame, don't make me laugh that pipeline dried up a long time ago. It would take Myers years to even get close to what he has in Fla, if he ever could.

Excellent analysis ehyou.

Years? Urban did great things for Utah and for Bowling Green (correct me if I'm wrong).

If he went to Notre Dame it would only be a matter of months (12-24)to get that machine cranked back up.

But if it were me, I'd stay in Gainesville. Better weather for sure.

Could be but i don't think he is that magical. Fla seeme to be saying with that low buy out. If you don't like it here move on we can do it with out you.

They definitly gave him the up front money but did not close or lock the back door

12:49 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Well UF just sent a bunch of money out the door, hopefully the secured their asset.

Notre Dame would have to pay some outrageous numbers to get him.

12:50 PM

Well, some schools are outrageous enough to pay those numbers. Look at USC.

According to ESPN yesterday they left the buyout at 500K. Peanuts to Notre Dame and NBC

I'm actually against buyouts in general. I say get rid of them all and allow the coaches to have free reign. They are only going to move if they have done something worthy at your school.

I've heard a lot about "The Blindside", and I can't wait to see it. A very good story and i'm thrilled what this kid has been able to do, especially going to Ole Miss.

Damn it Sensi...that was just wrong. How'd you know a blonde Sandra Bullock was going to get me all choked up like that?

I stayed on the Tub band wagon alot longer that most but I had no idea he was that burned out and gave in to the powers to be on his OC selection.

I don't think he did. He just looked for a Pie-In-The-Sky solution. It didn't work.

Trivia - Michael Oher played for Briarcrest Christian School, who was my high school's arch rival. Oher started playing the year after I graduated.

More trivia - we beat Briarcrest in the regular season and the state championship game 2 years in a row. Booyakasha!

The Blind Side is based on Michael Oher, by the way. Some people might have found my post random if they didn't know that.

Was Michael Oher mom really a rich hot blond??

Blogger Harrison said...

yes. i have seen her in interviews. she is an attractive rich hot blonde. with a pretty hot daughter about Oher's age

1:41 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Oher's adoptive family is Mr. and Mrs. Sean Tuohy. Mr. Tuohy was a scrappy point guard for the Rebels in the late 1970-early 1980s.

Monica, I cannot speak to his calves or any other part of his appearance.

I just remember him distributing the ball to John Stroud, the pride of New Albany, Miss., when Ole Miss had a couple of decent basketball teams.

Was Mrs Tuohy a rebel cheerleader??

Harrison - You're welcome for the trivia. More trivia - Captain Boxhead rejected a promotion to Major because Captain Boxhead sounds cooler.

I wonder if the Tuohy's originally reached out to Oher because he had a weird last name, too.
